arrickville will come alive on Sunday, October 20 for the annual Marrickville Festival which promises to have the best line-up yet. With much anticipation, this year’s event will get underway at 10am. The entertainment will be sure to get you tapping your toes with performances from local talent, up and coming bands, right through to community groups. There will be over 36 performances across five stages, as well as diverse attractions and activities including bicycle workshops, blacksmith demonstrations, recycling games and the very best local foods and handmade products. Large numbers are expected to attend, with previous years attracting up to 50,000 people and nothing suggesting those numbers will diminish. Mayor Jo Haylen said the event is the highlight of the year for the Marrickville area. “It’s such a great day out for everyone and anyone who wants to experience all the best that Marrickville has to offer. It’s the perfect place to experience our collective culture,” she said.

Cr Haylen said she enjoys nothing more than wandering Marrickville and Illawarra Roads every year at this time, tasting the many cuisines on offer and catching up with friends and neighbours whilst enjoying local entertainment. Originally called the International Fair and Festival, which was run by the Marrickville Rotary Club from 1985 to 1991 with on-going sponsorship

from Marrickville Council, the festival had a two year hiatus. Council took over the event and it has flourished ever since. It has turned into one of the largest annual festivals in the area. Don’t miss out on the community event of the year, the Marrickville Festival, on Sunday, October 20 from 10am until 5pm along Marrickville and Illawarra Roads.
