Cr Haylen said she was pleased and proud to be representing the local community. “I am very grateful for the support of my colleagues and the Marrickville community. I’m very aware of what an honour it is to be elected to this position,” she said. She is the youngest female Mayor of Marrickville and has lived in the Marrickville area for 10 years. Cr Ha ylen said she is passiona te about soc ial justice and was commi tted to ad dressing issues that affec ted residen ts such as affor dable housing. Other priori ties are the rev italisation of loc al parks and open spaces, and looking to build on the strengths of the community. “I want our counc il to be a t the centre of giving our community what it needs to gro w and f lourish,” she said. She said tha t she wan ted to buil d on the w ork already done in public areas.
“I want counc il to impro ve our parks, sportin g fields, playgrounds and dog exercise areas. I want neighbours to come tog ether and g et to kno w each other.” Outgoing Mayor Vic Macri said he was honoured to be in the role for the last year, and looked forward to the next three years as Councillor.
