BLOCKTACULAR TIPS You first met them on ‘The Block’ in 2017, now Ronnie and Georgia are back with a new short- form online video series, ‘Quick Room Flips with Ronnie & Georgia’, on The Block’s official website – nine. com.au/theblock. The show premiered online last week. This eight- part series, in partnership with Beaumont Tiles, is the first content offering to sit on the digital platform Block 365 – an always - on digital destination focused on short- form video to leverage the power of Australia’s most popular renovation series, ‘The Block’. Ronnie and Georgia proudly wear the crown of ‘most room reveal wins’ in any series of ‘The Block’. Now they will be put to a new test as they battle the clock to deliver covetable rooms and answer the needs of growing families desperate to refresh their homes, but not knowing where to start. Not only that, but this dynamic renovation couple will use their experience to flip the rooms in just one day, with limited cash: anything from a bathroom to a

bedroom, a dining room, even a neglected outdoor space. Ronnie said the show has been a great experience so far. “We’ve had the time of our lives filming this series, meeting amazing families and working together to transform tired old spaces in their homes in under 24 hours on a tiny budget,” he said. Georgia said it’s been a joyous time despite the huge workload involved. “It’s been an insane amount of work and a massive challenge both physically and creatively, but it’s at that very moment of our room reveals, when we see such joy on the faces of these families, that it makes what we do all the more worthwhile,” she said. There will be plenty of styling ideas, tips and tricks, followed by wonderful reveals and tears shed as Ronnie and Georgia use their inimitable style to brighten up these rooms and the lives of these families. Why did you become involved in the real estate industry? I used to work on the front desk for a real estate office on weekends in my 20s. I would sit there every weekend wishing I was taking the people out to look at properties. I eventually begged for a chance in the sales team and that’s how it all began. Tell us about the first house that you sold / leased? It was a large block of land on Nepean Avenue where the buyers built a duplex and gave them back to me to sell. The land belonged to the very old Welch family of Penrith which was nice because my family the O’Farrells had a very long friendship with them.

What do you love most about being in real estate? Helping people realise their dreams. Whether it is buying their new home or selling to move onto their next chapter of life. It is a lovely feeling when you know you have made a difference. Why should people choose you over other agents? I’m very passionate about my work and I genuinely care about the results I get for people. I think it’s important to have someone who will hold your hand throughout the whole process and I do try and make it a pleasant experience. I also think females connect more to a home which really helps when you need someone to love

the product they are selling. It should be a nice memory when you sell. What has been your biggest ever real estate achievement? I suppose if it’s results it would be 11 R4 (high rise) sites I sold in one street but I think my biggest achievement would be the friends I have made during my real estate career. Gorgeous people who are still in my life who I met through real estate. What should people do to ensure their home sells or rents for the best possible price? Presentation is really important. Pricing and sales strategy needs to be well thought out.

For example, do you want a separate reading nook? Or enough seating for the family to gather to watch television or play board games? The use of rugs and the placement of furniture to anchor and create different zones can make a huge difference to a space. The Australian climate can produce less than ideal growing conditions that even challenge the most seasoned gardeners. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) in its monthly drought report highlighted that rainfall deficiencies increased across parts of the country in January this year. Drought tolerant plants can help reduce a garden’s water consumption but gardeners can also use less water in the garden by using self-watering pots. Friday, March 1, 2019

These self- watering pots have an in-built reservoir at the bottom of the pot. When the plant’s roots detect water at the bottom of the pot, they pass their roots through a perforated insert into the reservoir. The roots then draw water from the reservoir as required, avoiding

over-watering. Excessive watering is a problem as the waterlogged soil reduces the amount of available air inhibiting the plant from breathing. This efficient type of watering system avoids wetting plant leaves, helping to minimise the risk of bacterial infections. Self- watering pots, also encourage healthy root growth. This is because, the water stored at the bottom of the pot, stimulates the roots to grow deeper towards the water source.

When plants have a sturdy root system, they can produce larger stems and branches that results in a healthy amount of foliage and crop yield. Another benefit is that when you’re away from home for a few days, self-watering pots are really useful as you don’t have to worry about watering your plants.
