OVER FRAUD OFFENCES NSW Fair Trading has successfully prosecuted a property manager from a Cabramatta real estate business, who was convicted for fraudulently converting $19,000 of rental bonds into her personal account. Tran My Phuong Le, 47, was sentenced to 12 months of imprisonment to be served by way of an intensive corrections order along with 100 hours of community service. She was sentenced at Parramatta Local Court on April 4 for breaching the Property, Stock & Business Agents Act 2002. Ms Le, also known as Angelina, was the property manager for M & J’s International Investment and Development Co Pty Ltd trading as Lucky Dragon Development Company real estate agency. NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Rose Webb said Ms Le was charged after NSW Fair Trading attended the business for a site visit and inspection in August 2017. “Fair Trading investigators found that nine rental bonds were missing from Lucky Dragon’s account which should have been

registration and the bond money has been paid back to the RBB out of the agency’s own funds. “This sends yet another strong reminder that Fair Trading remains proactive in its disciplinary and enforcement action to ensure that anyone in the real estate industry acts in a responsible and honest manner,” Ms Webb said.

Purchasing pre-loved and bringing back to life one- of- a- kind pieces is becoming more and more fashionable and are often key talking points for bloggers and social media influencers. I am an avid thrifter and re vamper and know just how exciting and rewarding ‘op- shopping’ for your home can be. When done right, you can end

up being the lucky owner of some stylish, one-off pieces that would be worth a mint if purchased on the high street. When done wrong, you can end up with piles of unwanted junk, gathering dust. With all of that in mind, here are a couple of worthy pointers to consider when thrifting for your home...

Research as you go Google is the most knowledgeable friend to take shopping with you. If an item I love has a label or a stamp with the maker’s name on it, I always Google the name, along with a basic description of the item to find out whether or not it has any value. When I first started thrifting I made some pretty doozy decisions on items I thought were of value but ended up finding out that they are cheap copy cats of the real deal.

BONUS TIP: Make sure when travelling, you look up local car boot sales or vintage markets. It’s so satisfying to be able to have statement, truly one- of- a- kind pieces that no one else has in your home, but even greater when they have a great travel story to go along with it!

Stay level headed The thrill of going shopping knowing you will be saving money is great, but often people think they can buy more because of it. Don’t fall into that trap! Write a list of what you need and don’t deviate from it otherwise you can fall into the trap of purchasing things you really don’t need that will eventually end up in landfill or back in a charity store. Sell before you buy Don’t thrift to hoard. Good practice would be to take a bag of things you don’t need anymore
