TO THE 80’S Textured Terrazzo What was originally used in the 80’s as a textured, crushed candy-looking hard floor and wall covering, has now been toned down and applied more sparingly as accessory and textile accents.
Coral neutrals When I think of coral interiors, I think of flamingos and ‘Miami Vice’. The announcement of Pantone’s 2019 Annual Colour of The Year, ‘Living Coral’ has challenged those in the know in the world of interiors to use coral and similar shades such as peach and terracotta in some pretty swoonworthy ways. I am loving @fornstudio on Instagram’s take on coral as a striking wall colour, with their

This stunning earthy colour palette is the primary colour scheme of the imagery on their IG page, which has loads of gorgeous room inspiration on how this neutral coral palette can be applied stylishly. YOUR SCANDI STYLE The Scandinavian style has been a mainstay of contemporary interior design since the 1950’s, when home owners fell in love with its simple, refined aesthetic that combines light timber tones, clean lines and subtle hues. These core elements can still be seen in Scandi houses over 60 years later and have been given a modern twist with beautiful dusty pinks and brass accents. Scandi interior decorator and renovator duo Nat Wheeler and Kristy Sadlier have devoted their careers to defining their interpretation of the look, which they brought to life during the revamp of Nat’s 1920s bungalow in south east Melbourne. A feat which in no small part was achieved through their door choices, says Nat. “You should be able to tell a lot about a space by its doors,” she said. “They’re the first thing you see when you enter a room and, if closed, the last thing you see
when you leave. If your room has a design story, then the doors are its cover and in this case, you should definitely be able to judge a book by its cover.” Here, the self-professed Scandifiles give their advice on how to open the door on the style. Make way for your grand entrance One of the best things I did when renovating my home was to open up the hallway. The Scandi aesthetic is open and full of light, so a small corridor just wasn’t going to work. This new space created the opportunity to make a big statement with my doors. Every time I leave the house or let someone in, I’m greeted with my stunning Corinthian Classic PCL 4 double entrance doors in Dulux Vivid White with Buster and Punch handles. Setting them on a background of Dulux Tranquil Retreat walls helps them really stand out. Simple elegance is key to the trend, so making a statement with your choice of doors relies on the detail. Keep the look consistent Beautiful interiors rely on having a strong design story that is executed consistently throughout your home. This ensures that the eyes can wander calmly from space to space without any unexpected surprises. By choosing interior doors that tie in with your exterior model, you can help create this sense of continuity. A good trick for doing this well in a Scandi home is to slightly pare back the motifs of the front door with a simpler profile. We used Corinthian’s Balmoral PBAL 2 interior doors throughout the property as it has a similar profile but is refined down to two deep carved panel details. The beautiful brass door handles in the entrance were also mirrored by our choice of interior door hardware and the material

choice was picked out in fittings and furnishings including our tapware and lighting. Door to door design If we think of the door as the cover of your design story, then it follows that you should ensure it is represented in your space. Door frames, picture rails and skirting boards all provide opportunities to add more texture to the home through the use of carved and embossed profiles. We opted to use these throughout the house and finished them also in Dulux Vivid White in line with our Balmoral PBAL 2 interior doors, which like the Classic PCL 4, came primed ready for a smooth paint finish. This was a real time saver and ensured we could customise the door to the look we wanted. We then used soft greys and pinks on the walls to create a subtle contrast that helps the eye find the consistency that stretches from one door to the next. Home & Garden Magazine

Just mention termites and you’ll strike fear in the heart of any home owner! While the only way to know for certain is to have your home checked out by a reputable pest control service, there are several things you can do to make an infestation less likely. Termites are attracted to wood so move any potential food source well away from the building.
