LICENCES GO DIGITAL EASING THE BURDEN OF PAPERWORK The burden of paperwork for conveyancers is set to ease following the launch of a new digital qualification verification process for occupational or vocational licences. Minister for Better Regulation, Kevin Anderson said all conveyancer licences can be applied for online and TAFE NSW qualifications can be verified without the need to upload paperwork or go into a Service NSW Centre. “With about $95 billion changing hands in the NSW housing market last year alone, the State’s 1,600 licenced conveyancers are busier than ever,” Mr Anderson said. “By digitising this process we’re reducing red tape for people in the conveyancing industry and giving them more time to focus on their customers rather than dealing with paperwork. “The new online process will enable TAFE qualifications to be verified and accepted in realtime, which removes the need to upload paperwork, and assures applicants that their qualification is valid and accepted before they pay and lodge their application.”
Minister for Digital and Customer Service Victor Dominello said digitising the conveyancer application was another step in the digital licensing revolution. “This new process creates a smoother experience for applicants but also gives them the confidence they are dealing with qualified conveyancers,” Mr Dominello said. “The people of NSW expect the government to be making their life easier and this alongside the other digitised licences such as the Digital Driver Licence and White Card do exactly that.” Minister for Skills and Tertiary Education Geoff Lee said the digital validation process has been integrated with the TAFE NSW Application Program Interface (API) ahead of the launch, with plans to roll out to more Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and industries in the coming months. “TAFE NSW graduates want to move from study to employment without the hassle of paperwork and queuing. The new digital verification process means qualified tradies can go from the class-
room to the jobsite in a matter of minutes,” Mr Lee said. Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Institute of Conveyancers NSW Division Chris Tyler said he was pleased to see the process improved for the conveyancing industry. “Removing red tape to make the licensing renewals and applications quicker and easier for conveyancers will have a positive impact on our industry,” Mr Tyler said. “I’m also looking forward to this process being rolled out across other Registered Training Organi-

Electric vehicles have become the flavour of the month for both sides of politics in Australia and with climate change certain to be a central Federal Election issue they are likely to continue to be topical in the coming months. While the Morrison government was lukewarm about EVs during the 2019 election campaign, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has swung behind the new technology which is increasing in take up. More electric cars were sold in Australia in the first half of 2021 than the total sold in 2020. But electric vehicle uptake is coming off a slow base and is lagging behind other developed countries. About one per cent of new vehicles sold in Australia are
electric – which lags behind the global average of five per cent. Experts and industry figures say subsidies and improving charging infrastructure will help boost uptake. The government says by 2030 battery electric and plugin hybrid electric vehicles are projected to make up 30 per cent of annual new passenger and light commercial vehicle sales. This would translate into more than 1.7 million battery electric and plugin vehicles on Australian roads by 2030. The government says it will promote and bring forward priority market reforms to state and territory ministers “to ensure the electricity grid is EV-ready”. The additional electric vehicle uptake enabled by the new investment
will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by eight million tonnes by 2035, the government says. If you want to buy an EV, the nation’s lenders are ready to offer incentives. As we have outlined previously in Broking Breakdown, lenders who provide ‘green loans’ will often offer interest rates lower than a standard personal or car loan as an incentive for consumers to switch to more efficient and environmentally friendly products.
