he Penrith Panthers will throw back to the 1970s later this month while at the same time raising funds in support of seriously ill children and their families. Penrith’s upcoming Round 20 match against the Canberra Raiders at Pepper Stadium will not only celebrate the NRL’s annual Heritage Round but will also raise money for the Ronald McDonald Nepean Family Room at Nepean Hospital. The Sunday, July 26 fixture against the Raiders was originally slated to be played in Christchurch, New Zealand, but after plans fell through, the club decided to give Panthers members and fans another opportunity to support their team at home. With the match now confirmed for Penrith, the club has announced a match day initiative to raise $100,000 for the Nepean Family Room. The Panthers have promised to contribute $10 from every adult ticket purchase and $5 from every junior ticket purchase towards the $100,000 fundraising target. The Nepean Family Room provides a welcoming home away from home for families of seriously ill children, who are undergoing treatment at Nepean Hospital. “The Nepean Family Room is a special place and Panthers is proud to have the opportunity to make a contribution to the remarkable service it provides,” Panthers Head of Rugby League, Justin Pascoe said.
