he Penrith community is in mourning after dedicated servant of the people, Ron Mulock AO, passed away last week. There are few in western Sydney who have not been influenced by Mr Mulock, either through his extensive political career, contribution to Penrith Rugby League Club or to Cricket. Mr Mulock had a distinguished political career, serving as the State Member for Nepean, Penrith and St Marys over 17 years. A “Labor giant”, Mr Mulock was Deputy Premier of NSW from 1984 to 1988 and served as a Minister for major portfolios including Justice, Health, Transport and Education. He also was an Alderman of Penrith Council for six years including three terms as Mayor. The tributes have flowed from all sides of politics this week recognising Mr Mulock’s unrivalled contribution to Penrith. “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ron Mulock,” said NSW Opposition Leader, John Robertson. “Ron dedicated his life to serving the people of Penrith, western Sydney and NSW – and will be remembered as one of Labor’s finest. “Ron had a sincere passion for improving opportunity for the most vulnerable members of our community, especially those with intellectual disabilities.” Mr Mulock’s funeral will be held in Penrith today, with thousands expected to attend to pay their respects.
