Penrith boy Freddy Fittler names four local stars in his first Origin team

he Blues may represent the whole of New South Wales in next week’s State of Origin opener, but there’s a real Penrith feel about the 2018 squad. There’s new coach Brad Fittler – the 1991 Panthers premiership winner who went to St Dominic’s College and McCarthy Catholic College. Meanwhile, a bloke he won that 1991 title with, Greg Alexander, is on the selection committee.
And then there’s the new halfback – Panthers playmaker Nathan Cleary, the easygoing, good natured 20-year-old who could be about to cure the Blues’ decade of woes. Three of his fellow Panthers – James Maloney, Tyrone Peachey and Reagan Campbell-Gillard – are also part of the Blues team that will take on Queensland at the MCG next Wednesday.
