And those who aren’t staying at home are choosing to rent instead of buy, finding it difficult to ever imagine that they’ll be able to save for a deposit as house prices soar out of control.
Even with recent stamp duty exemptions announced by the State Government, the prices of property itself in western Sydney is forcing locals to re-think the dream of home ownership. In the Lindsay electorate, Census data reveals that there are 3,806 young adults aged 25 to 34 living at home as they struggle to thrive financially. And the percentage of renters is also increasing, with some youngsters saying they’d prefer to rent without the pressure of home ownership and a mortgage. Read the full story on page 3
