disqualified driver who smashed his car into a truck while trying to evade police in St Clair on Tuesday was on the run for more than 24 hours before finally being

arrested. The 19-year-old man from Emerton was the driver of a white Holden Commodore that led police on a short pursuit along Bennett Road at about 10.25am on Tuesday before later being involved in a head-on collision with a truck. Police were patrolling the area when they indicated for the driver to stop the vehicle, so that they could speak to him about his manner of driving. “The vehicle allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit was self-terminated by police moments later due to the alleged excessive speed of the vehicle,” a police spokesperson said. Not long after the high-speed pursuit was called off, police were approached by a member of the public who reported that the same vehicle had been involved in a crash. The truck driver was not injured in the incident and the driver of the car was well enough to let himself out of the vehicle and leave the scene. “The driver of the Holden ran from the scene with police conducting a search of the area with the assistance of the dog squad and the police helicopter,” the spokesperson said. At about 11.40am on Wednesday, St Marys police officers attended an address in Ropes Crossing where they arrested the 19-year-old. He was treated by paramedics for minor injuries, and charged with a range of offences including Skye’s Law. He was due in court yesterday.
