Area Rinks Open for Ice Skaters YORK / KITTERY / ELIOT With colder temps arriving, local ice skaters have several family-friendly rinks to choose from to get outside and get some fun exercise this winter. The Eliot Ice Rink is officially open! This is a ‘skate at your own risk’ facility with no staff supervision. Skaters are asked to maintain a six-foot distance from others and to please wear a mask when social distancing difficult. The park has lights and closes at 9 p.m. Parking is provided at: Dixon Road
(to left or right of Red Barn there is gravel to park on), Town Hall (but not directly in front of building during business hours), and the Elementary School during non-school hours. Absolutely no parking behind the police and
fire departments. There will be a new ice rink at the Kittery Community Center and STAR Theatre in Kittery on the Frisbee Common. The rink is not open yet for skating since the rink is still freezing.
Updates and information can be found online at www.facebook. com/kittcommctr/. The Mackey Skate Park on Bog Road in York is now open until 9 p.m. with floodlights turned on at dusk. At 9 p.m., the
ice is cleaned and a fresh layer of water is put down on two rinks to make fresh ice for the next day. Follow Mackey Skate Park on Facebook for info and status. The York Parks & Recreation Department has opened the Rink by the River at Goodrich Park. Please note, this rink is for York Residents only at this time, masks must be worn at all times (on and off the ice) and only 15 people are allowed on the ice at one time. General skating is free and on a first come/first serve basis. When you arrive, you will be asked to sign in with See RINKS page 21...

Additionally, driver license vision screening requirements that were waived since last spring are once again in effect. Teachers at the school are readying activities related to Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS). Students are presently listening to a story read by an astronaut on the ISS. Others are training like astronauts in their physical education classes. Some students are calculating planetary distances in their math classes. The Sea Road School serves over 300 third, fourth, and fifth-grade students. For its part, the New England Radio Discussion Society, a Maine radio club comprised of Federally-licensed Radio Amateurs, known as ham radio operators, initiated the plans for the contact.
