Cure Sanfilippo Fundraiser includes Raffle for Sports Items WELLS Serving delicious blueberry pancakes is an everyday occurrence at the Maine Diner in Wells, but on Friday, January 28 – National Blueberry Pancake Day – the diner will host its 4th Annual Cure Sanfilippo Syndrome fundraiser. 100% of pancake proceeds will go to researching the fatal neurodegenerative and multisystem genetic disease caused by an enzyme deficiency. Currently there is no FDA-approved treatment or cure. Spencer Smith, son of Wells High School alum Nate Smith, is a young child who is afflicted with Sanfilippo Syndrome (pictured here with his dad and mom

Alli). Often called Childhood Alzheimer’s, “the disease causes children to lose all the skills they’ve gained, suffer seizures and movement disorders, experience pain and suffering, and

then die, often before the second decade of life,” wrote www.curesanfilippofoundation.org. To support Spencer and his families mission to help find a cure, on January 28 only, the

Maine Diner is once again offering blueberry or plain pancakes at $1 per pancake or $3 for a stack – and the special “Get Stacked at the Maine Diner” t-shirts at the Remember The Maine gift shop located next door. From January 29 through February 4, 100% of shipping order sales of blueberry pancake batter will be included in the fundraising (www.mainediner.com/shipping/). New this year is a raffle for a New England sports package which includes a framed and autographed photo of Mac Jones, quarterback of the New England Patriots, an autographed baseball and book by Luis Tiant, the Red Sox pitching legend, and

an autographed book by Dale Arnold, former Boston Bruins commentator! Raffle tickets are $5 each. The winner will be chosen on January 28 at the end of the day. Last January, the fundraiser collected $10,000! Donations are accepted year round and can be made over the phone with a credit card – or visit www.facebook.com/mypalspencercure sanfilippo. A bucket is kept on the counter at the diner for in-kind donations. There is a $1 donation for every blueberry soda, blueberry soda float, and Blue Paw beer sold. Maine Diner is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily except on Wednesdays at 2265 Post Road (Route 1).

Fuel Gas Detector Installation Required as of January 1 STATEWIDE Effective on January 1 of this year, the law outlined in Title 25, §2469, requires fuel gas detectors be installed in Maine homes using propane, natural gas, or liquified petroleum gas. Fuel gas detectors are not the same as carbon monoxide detectors and will not replace the need for those within buildings in Maine. Fuel gas detectors may be powered by battery, plugged into
