Kennebunk Celebrates WinterFest Next Weekend KENNEBUNK The town of Kennebunk will be celebrating WinterFest this year on February 4. Activities include free horse drawn wagon rides, skating at Waterhouse Center with Kennebunk High School ice hockey players, fire baton twirling and a special figure skating performance by Kennebunk High senior, and Festival Committee member, Samantha Abelson. This year Samantha competed at the New England Re-
gional Figure Skating Championship held in Burlington, Vermont skating at the Senior
Ladies level. “I am excited to be participating at Kennebunk’s WinterFest. I love skating at the Waterhouse Center says Sam. She will be skating to “The Prayer by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli. The Soup Contest is back again for the 8th year but this year the Committee retired the trophy that has been won several times by Chef Rich Lemoine of The Village Tavern. Instead they have invited Chef Lemoine, along with Chefs Brian
and Shanna O’Hea of Academe at the Kennebunk Inn, to be judges for the new Chef’s Choice category. There will still be a People’s Choice and the category Kid’s Choice has also been added. All categories are blind tastings so the people will not know which restaurant they are voting for. The event is $5 per person, $15 per family, and children under 5 are free. The day starts at the Kennebunk Free Library where the Cabin Fever Book Sale and free
Bird Feeder Craft Project will be held from 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Stop by Waterhouse Center for the activities there including the Name the Snowman suggestion box. The Snowman is the new mascot of WinterFest. A free bean supper will be offered at 4 p.m. The evening wraps up at 7 p.m. with the Annual Alumni Variety Show at Town hall. do some serious ‘weeding out’ of their closets. “It’s a clothing drive, except it’s more than just clothing, it’s any textiles, commented school volunteer Ashley Breton before the first Weed-Out in 2016, a multi-community effort that generated 10 tons of clothing, and related items raising almost $4,000 for a very grateful Winter Guard team at WHS. This year’s Weed-Out is to help the WHS Music Department raise a portion of the $38,000 needed to take school band and choral members to Williamsburg for “Music in the Parks this spring.
The following is a list of what can be accepted for the drive: clothing (even torn and stained clothing plus clean rags), clothing accessories, linens, towels, bedding, (sheets, blankets, quilts, comforters), curtains, drapes, shoes (even single shoes), purses, fabrics, uniforms, costumes, chair covers, slip covers, handbags, and backpacks. If you have any of these items and would like to donate them, please bag them up in new garbage bags and deposit See WEED-OUT page 5...
