The game is slated to be played at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL, and ESPN reports that the NFL is planning for 20 percent seating capacity at the game. However, students, parents, and staff were feeling the impact of the loss of broader social connections, “cohort fatigue”.

BERWICK Berwick Community Television (BCTV) has just released the first program in its “Project Remembrance” series, an interview with CSM Daniel Flint, NH National Guard, Retired. Flint, of Sanford, served with the National Guard for 41 years, reaching the rank of Command Master sergeant. Project Remembrance is a tribute to past and present members of the armed forces in appreciation of their sacrifices. Flint is a member of Charles H. Hatch Post 79, America Legion. Flint was interviewed by Dick Moore, a member of the BCTV Committee. Moore said, “The original idea came from my son, Ryan, but due to time constraints, he allowed me to follow up on it.” In conversation with

Moore, Flint talks about becoming a wheeled vehicle mechanic with the guard, starting part-time as he also worked at local auto dealers. Around 1983, he was offered a full-time position with the guard and retired in 2016 with the rank of Command Master Sergeant, the highest non-commissioned rank in the army. His service included tours in Kuwait and Iraq. Moore said, “Command Sergeant Major Flint and I got together and I made sure to make a reasonably-detailed outline of what he wanted to discuss. He never said that there was anything that he wouldn’t discuss.” Berwick Community Television Director Terri Wright said BCTV provides an opportunity for residents to produce shows See BCTV page 21...

Star Wars Stamps Coming Soon! WASHINGTON, DC The first characters fans meet in the first Star Wars film, “Star Wars: A New Hope,” are droids – namely C-3PO and R2-D2 – and droids have continued to play pivotal roles throughout the Star Wars galaxy. With 10 dazzling new character-inspired stamps, the Postal Service salutes beloved droids from the Star Wars galaxy and the imagination that brings these technological marvels to the screen. Representing more than four decades of innovation and storytelling, the droids featured

in this pane of 20 stamps are IG-11, R2-D2, K-2SO, D-O, L3-37, BB-8, C-3PO, a GNK (or Gonk) power droid, 2-1B surgical droid and C1-10P, commonly known as “Chopper.” The characters are shown against backgrounds representing settings of memorable adventures. The selvage features a passageway from the floating Cloud City above the planet Bespin, introduced in “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.” These set of droids are a nod to Lucasfilm’s, as well as its parent company, Disney’s, commitment to science, technology,

York Hospital will host a community webinar, “Be Kind to Your Heart, to discuss ways to prevent cardiovascular disease (CVD) and improve wellness. Join Cardiovascular Care of York Hospital physicians Dr. Erin Rafferty and Dr. Krista Michelin to learn about CVD risk factors, signs and symptoms of a heart attack and stroke, how symptoms can differ for men and women, the importance of maintaining care, and ways to improve heart health while reducing stress. While COVID-19 concerns dominate the news, the reality is cardiovascular disease continues to be the leading cause of morbidity and mortality throughout the country. People with heart disease may also be at a higher risk of developing a more severe form of COVID-19 if infected with the virus, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Risk for developing heart disease is heightened with high cholesterol, high blood pressure and/or elevated blood sugar levels; smoking; being overweight; inadequate daily/ weekly physical activity; and comsuming food and drink that are high in fat, calories, sodium, and/or sugar. Cardiovascular Care of York Hospital suggests the fol-

Maine People Encouraged to Explore Health Care Coverage Options AUGUSTA Governor Janet Mills recently applauded President Biden’s decision to open www. healthcare.gov for a special enrollment period from February 15 to May 15. “Health care saves lives. It keeps people working, enjoying life, and contributing to the economy. That is why my Administration has been focused since day one on making health care more affordable and more accessible to Maine people. Right now, more than 70,000 people in Maine have health insurance as a result of Medicaid expansion, said Governor Mills. “This pandemic has only brought into sharper relief the importance of health care. It is more important than ever to ensure that Maine people can see their doctor, receive care, and stay healthy. I applaud the President’s decision lowing ways to reduce risk: Monitor blood pressure; Reduce cholesterol (if elevated); Commit to a healthy diet; Stay active; Lose weight; Quit smoking. Other ways to stay healthy include getting adequate sleep (at least seven hours daily for adults) and limiting the consumption of alcohol. To register, go to www.yorkhospital.com/news/ or contact York Hospital community relations for more information at info@yorkhospital.com or 207351-2385.

to open a special enrollment period, which will give Maine people who need health care coverage another opportunity to sign up. I encourage Maine people who need affordable, high-quality insurance to visit www.coverme.gov on February 15 to learn about coverage options, find local assistance, and consider applying. Most Maine people shopping through the federal www. healthcare.gov marketplace can find coverage that costs less than $75 a month for health coverage in 2021, according to federal data. Sixty percent of Maine www.healthcare.gov customers qualify for a plan costing under $75 a month, while 40 percent can pay under $10 a month. People with income between 139 and 400 percent of the federal poverty level (under $51,040 for a single person, $104,800 for a family of four) can get reduced premiums through the marketplace. Governor Mills also declared an insurance emergency on March 12, 2020 to improve access to care and under that order Superintendent of Insurance Eric Cioppa also ordered that private, fully-insured plans pay the full costs of COVID-19 vaccination. All plans available through www.healthcare.gov provide coverage for the vaccine with no out-of-pocket cost, and also cover the testing and treatment.

So many more patients could benefit from palliative and hospice care, but a lot of people are scared by the terms – or they don’t really know what they mean. We can’t always make a person better, but we can work as a team to manage the complex symptoms of a chronic or terminal disease. Then, when it’s medically appropriate, we can provide a comfortable, dignified and meaningful end of life. I love the work we do every day because it’s for the right reason: to benefit our patients. Morally, you have to believe in what you do and the organization you work for. I couldn’t be more proud of both.

Don't Share Vaccination Card Photos! STATEWIDE Got your COVID-19 vaccine? Great job! But the Better Business Bureau warns not to share a photo of your vaccination card on social media. The self-identifying information on it makes you vulnerable to identity theft and can help scammers create phony versions. Your card has your full name and birthday on it, as well as information about where you got your vaccine. If your social media privacy settings aren’t set high, you may be giving valuable information away for anyone to use. Sharing your personal information isn’t the only issue. Scammers in Great Britain were caught selling fake vaccination cards on eBay and TikTok. It’s only a matter of time before similar cons come to the United States and Canada. Dear Computer Lady, I cannot insert a complete row in Excel when I click insert. Please help me, Glennis Dear Glennis, I like to insert a row in Excel by right clicking on the spreadsheet instead of using the menu at the top. To insert an entire row, right click on the row number on the left edge of your spreadsheet and click “Insert” in the contest menu. A new, blank, row will be inserted. All the rows below will move down one row. This method has worked in all versions of Excel that I have used, and seems to make the most sense to me. I hope this helps, Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady, After the lasted big Windows 10 update, our Dell desk-

top crashed. We took it to the repair shop and they said Windows 10 was totally corrupted. They could copy what was on it for an extra fee which we told them to do. What do we do now? Get a new hard drive, a new Windows 10 program, or trash it completely? Thanks so much for your help. Mary Dear Mary, What you do now depends on several things, the condition of your hardware, the age of your computer, and the speed of your computer. I see computers with corrupted installations of Windows 10 quite frequently (it’s not just a windows 10 problem, the same thing happens with older versions) and this is what I do. First, I check for hardware

issues. Is the hard drive in the process of failing? Is the RAM having issues? If the hardware on your computer passes all the tests, then I look at the age of the computer. Since the average computer lasts about five years, is it worth putting several hundred dollars into fixing a six year old computer, or would you prefer to put that money toward a new one. I also ask about the speed of the computer. If you are doing video editing and the computer can barely keep up, it makes more sense to invest in a more powerful computer than to fix the inadequate one. No matter what the problem is, I backup my customer’s data to a spare hard drive, then I can restore it after either

Dear Computer Lady, In Windows versions previous to Windows 10, I was able to open the Network and Sharing Center then click on an option to see a “map” of every device connected to my router’s network. Since I live in a densely populated apartment building, I used to check the map to see if any of my neighbors had hacked into my wireless network. Would you please tell me how to find a network map in Windows 10? Thank you so much for all the help you have given all your readers over the years. Nancy Dear Nancy, I did a little bit of research and, unfortunately, the network map is not available in Windows 10. There are a couple of companies like Spiceworks and Solarwinds that offer software that monitor networks, but they look like they are made for IT professionals. I did, however find a little program called, Wireless Network Watcher by NirSoft at www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_network_watcher.html. I have not used this particular program, but I am familiar with NirSoft and have used several of their utilities over the years. This program looks like it might do the trick. I hope it helps. fixing or replacing the corrupted computer. As long as your computer passes the hardware tests, you don’t need to get a new hard drive, you just need to get a clean install of Windows 10. Elizabeth

Dear Computer Lady, I look forward to reading your column every week be-

cause you make computers so simple and understandable. I also have a question. I upgraded my computer from Windows 7 to 10. I also updated this Window 10 a few times as the updates became available. Before the upgrade, I had MS office 2013 (I believe) but now because of some update, I have MS Office Professional Plus 10 but when I try to use it, it says that the program is not activated. Well, I never asked for this program and don’t want to pay for a new one as the old program was serving me well. How can I go back to the original MS office program? I don’t know as to which update created this problem but a problem it is. I hope you have the solution. Thanks, Prem Dear Prem, I have a couple of things you can try. First, simply go to the control panel and uninstall Office Professional Plus 10. Restart your computer after you uninstall it. If you still have office 2013 installed on your computer, removing the newer version will cause your computer to default back to the older program. If that doesn’t fix the problem, you will probably need to get out your disk for Office 2013 and re-install it. That should fix your problem. Be sure to remove the newer version and restart before installing the older version, otherwise it won’t work. Elizabeth Interested in learning more? Elizabeth has answered thousands of computer questions over the years. To submit a question, email her at elizabeth.

FINANCE & CAREER Gov. Mills Ends Early Business Closing Time

AUGUSTA Governor Janet Mills announced that she will end the 9 p.m. early closing time for businesses, effective Monday, February 1. The decision is the result of Maine’s improving public health metrics, including a decrease in Maine’s positivity rate and new COVID-19 cases per million.

Seeking Solution to PPP Tax AUGUSTA This week the issue of PPP loans possibly being be taxed by the state has come to light. While the federal government has said PPP loan funds will not be taxed at the federal level, Maine’s proposed budget does not include the same provision. Since this would affect many small businesses, many groups – including the state’s

Starting February 1, those businesses that had been subject to the requirement may resume evening operating hours while continuing to follow other public health and safety requirements outlined in the COVID-19 Prevention Checklists. “We are beginning to round the corner on the postholiday surge of COVID-19.

NATIONWIDE Members of the military and qualifying veterans can prepare and e-file their taxes for free through MilTax (www.militaryonesource.mil/financial-legal/ tax-resource-center/miltax-military-tax-services/). Taxpayers chambers – are opposed to this. Governor Janet Mills says she wants to work with the Maine legislature and others to pursue solutions that will help Maine small businesses through the pandemic.

We know how important it is to find insurance for your small business. tinue to wear masks, watch their distance, and avoid gatherings whenever possible. Doing these basic things will help us put a lid on this virus and get back to normal faster. That will be great for Maine people and great for Maine businesses.” The early business closure addressed a higher risk of COVID-19 transmission during

later hours when people are more likely to lower their guard and not adhere to critical public health and safety measures. The early closure measure – similar to that in other states – allowed businesses to stay open with daytime operations and continue curbside pick-up and delivery service after 9 p.m.

Resources for Vets, Military to File Taxes Free

Supporting small businesses in York for 20 years.

BUSINESS

With these improved public health metrics, and with the holidays behind us, it is appropriate to remove the early closing time requirement,” said Governor Janet Mills. “At the same time, this pandemic is far from over. As we continue to get shots into as many peoples’ arms as quickly and efficiently as possible, it is crucial that Maine people con-

who do not qualify for MilTax have other options to prepare and e-file their federal taxes for free. The IRS has a variety of resources to help members of the military, veterans and their families navigate the unique and sometimes complex circumstances that come with filing taxes while in the military. Here’s a list of some of the resources these taxpayers may find helpful:

“Tax Information for Members of the Military” is the main page on www.irs.gov where people can go to find links to helpful info, resources and services. A taxpayer’s military status affects whether they are eligible for certain benefits. Taxpayers can also check their eligibility for military tax benefits by visiting www.irs.gov. Qualifying employ-

ers include the Armed Forces, uniformed services, and support organizations. There are rules specific to those who serve in combat zones. These taxpayers and their families can find out more on the “Tax Exclusion for Combat Service” page of www. irs.gov. They should also review

lines for the Recovery Rebate Credit. Most people received Economic Impact Payments automatically, and anyone who received the maximum amount does not need to include any information about their payments when they file. However, those who didn’t receive a payment or only received a partial payment may be eligible to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit when they file their 2020 tax return. Tax preparation software, including IRS Free File, will help taxpayers figure the amount. Remember, advance stimulus payments received separately are not taxable, and they do not reduce the taxpayer’s refund when they file in 2021. There are several important dates taxpayers should keep

in mind for this year’s filing season: February 12 - IRS begins 2021 tax season. Individual tax returns begin being accepted and processing begins; February 22 - Projected date for the www.irs.gov Where’s My Refund tool being updated for those claiming EITC and ACTC, also referred to as PATH Act returns; First week of March - Tax refunds begin reaching those claiming EITC and ACTC (PATH Act returns) for those who file electronically with direct deposit and there are no issues with their tax returns; April 15 - Deadline for filing 2020 tax returns; October 15 - Deadline to file for those requesting an extension on their 2020 tax returns.

See VETS page 20...

...TAXES from page 1 nine out of ten taxpayers will receive their refund within 21 days of when they file electronically with direct deposit if there are no issues with their tax return. The IRS urges taxpayers and tax professionals to file electronically. To avoid delays in processing, people should avoid filing paper returns wherever possible. To speed refunds and help with their tax filing, the IRS urges people to follow these simple steps: File electronically and use direct deposit for the quickest refunds; Check www.irs.gov for the latest tax information, including the latest on Economic Impact Payments. There is no need to call; For those who may be eligible for stimulus payments, they should carefully review the guide-

Ruth Nau, 93 YORK – Ruth Katherine Canning Nau stepped briefly into the optimism of 2021, passing quietly on January 2. Ruth was born on March 13, 1928 in Natick, MA, daughter of the late Daniel and Marion Canning. Ruth met Norman Nau, the love of her life and husband of 62 years, while soaking a sprained ankle on the porch of Mrs. Day’s B&B in York Harbor Beach. They began their life together in Athol, MA. While raising her family, Ruth became a master of multitasking. She loved gardening, was active in the Athol Con-

USPS Reminds Residents to Remember the Mailbox STATEWIDE It takes more than a few flakes to deter letter carriers from making their appointed rounds throughout New England. “But, if they cannot reach gregational Church, became a hospital volunteer, played golf, bridge and participated in the Petersham Curling Club. Ruth proved herself to be a craftsman extraordinaire. Many of her braided rugs would encompass an entire room. She took up watercolors, needlework and quilting. Her sewing and knitted sweaters were flawless. Romantic memories of Maine kept calling to Ruth and Norman. In 1990 they moved to York where ‘it all began’. They became familiar faces at auctions and flea markets. Antique and art collecting was a passion that filled their hearts and home. Her desire to do service continued while in York. Ruth used her talents to assist in church fairs and fundraisers. She helped out at the Elizabeth Perkins House and mentored elementary students. Ruth’s generous spirit and culinary talents often provided friends and service folk with cookies, whoopee pies, and homemade pickles. FUNERAL HOME

Kittery, ME We are often asked by the families we serve, here at JS Pelkey & Son and Bernier Funeral Homes, why certain expressions and traditions exist in the funeral service industry. One of the most often asked questions is “Why send flowers to a memorial service or funeral, aren’t they just a waste of money?” Well nothing could be further from the truth. As my friend Todd Van Beck recently wrote in an article: Flowers are sent to funerals for several reasons. Flowers are a means of expression. It is often difficult for those mourning a death to put feelings into words. Flowers are a visual expression of love, sympathy, and respect. They are a way of lending support and sharing the burden of grief. In addition to sending flowers to the funeral, there is a growing trend to send flowers to the home of the bereaved after the service. Some people also send flowers to the church in memory of the deceased. Flowers create a background of warmth and beauty which adds to the dignity and consolation of the service. Those who have attended services where there were no flowers have noted that something was

bereaved’s feelings in the patterns of community support which are psychologically beneficial. Flowers, however, express the inexpressible – they are symbolic.

missing – that the funeral was depressing. The funeral meets the bereaved’s need for support. Death throws people into despair and depression by separating them from one who has provided love, companionship, and security. The funeral and customs provide the means by which those close to them can give their support and share their suffering. The funeral period provides for the expression of sorrow. Only through talking about the past can the bereaved person realize the extent of the relationship with the deceased, and accept the loss and suffering. Only through weeping and talking to good listeners can they release their grief and feelings of guilt and hostility. Experts in grief therapy believe that it can be expressed best through rites, rituals, and ceremonies. The ceremony deals primarily with intellectual concepts and doesn’t fully engage the

There are three points to be stressed, finally, in connection with the tradition of funeral flowers. First, the role of flowers are both symbolic and aesthetic. They add great value to the richness and meaning of the ritual. Second, flowers represent sympathy extended to the bereaved. Third, flowers are sent to both the living and the dead. They are sent to the living as comfort and as tokens of respect for the deceased. We, at the JS Pelkey & Son and the Bernier Funeral Homes, hold the value of the work our local florists do in very high regard. We always encourage the families we serve to contact a local florist directly. Certainly there are national floral outlets that can be reached with a simple Google search but, honestly, the quality of these products are often substandard. Simply click the “Send Flowers” tab on our website and you will be directed to our list of trusted florists. Please call us about any questions with which we may help.

WELLS Lovely Holly with her tiger stripes is close to the perfect kitty family member. At six years of age, she’s in perfect health and loves the companionship of people. She is a wonderful lap kitty, is fine around cat-friendly dogs, and is cool around other felines as long as they’re not pushy and give her time to adjust. She would be fine as an only kitty as well. Her foster mom marvels over her and can’t say enough wonderful things about her foster kitty. “Holly is the sweetest, most easy-going kitty and will quickly settle into a loving home.”

Large items, like hutches, loveseats, china cabinets, etc., must be approved before delivery so can make room for them. Thank you very much!

NORTH BERWICK Our sweet pup of the week is Bella! She is a 1.5-year-old Lab mix from the south looking for a quiet home. Bella is spayed and up-to-date on her shots. She would do well in a home with adults who are around most of the time to help her shyness. A fenced yard is a plus for this girl. She knows how to sit and is eager to please. Maybe a hiking buddy after some training! If you would like to meet sweet Bella, call 207676-5599. She is being fostered in North Berwick. Maine National Guard Thanked

WASHINGTON, D.C. U.S. Senator Susan Collins visited nearly two dozen soldiers from the 488th Military Police Company based in Waterville who are currently stationed in Washington, D.C. These members of the Maine National Guard volunteered to travel to D.C. to support local law enforcement agencies in preserving the peace around the U.S. Capitol following the riot on January 6. “I was honored to thank members of the 488th Military Police Company for their service in helping to support local law enforcement and keep the U.S. Capitol safe,” said Senator Collins.

“These brave men and women from the Maine National Guard are carrying out their mission in D.C. with the utmost professionalism, and I am grateful for the sacrifices they have made in leaving their loved ones and jobs to defend our democracy.” Following the riot on January 6, more than 200 members of the Maine National Guard joined thousands of National Guard troops from across the country in assisting federal law enforcement with protecting the grounds of the U.S. Capitol. Last Sunday, Senator Collins met with Maine National Guard personnel from the 251st

Engineer Company based in Norway, the 136th Engineer Company based in Lewiston and Skowhegan, and the 185th Engineer Company based in Houlton who kept the Capitol safe during the presidential inauguration. Several members of these units have extended their assignments and are continuing to serve in D.C.

People and Business Profiles Ogunquit Spirit of Giving Raised 30K OGUNQUIT During these turbulent and uncertain times, the Ogunquit Spirit of Giving did not host an in-person party/fundraiser in 2020 and nor did they collected actual gifts for children. However, they still wanted to to something to ensure that they were able to provide a brighter Christmas to as many of the 600+ children they would normally provide for. The solution was to create a GoFundMe Page and thanks to local businesses and local community members, they were able

to achieve their goal to provide gifts to more than 600 kids from Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine and Frannie Peabody Center. Together they raised just shy of their $30,000 goal and, with the help of last-minute donations and a few hundred dollars from the Spirit of Giving slush fund, they reached their goal just in time for Christmas. And because this effort was so successful, their current plan is to leave the GoFundMe page active and will continue to forward any additional funds that may come in.

Hancock Family Fund Receives Endowment from Lions Club YORK Christmas came a little early when the York Lions Club contacted York Hospital in late December with a request to endow proceeds from their fundraising activities to improve health outcomes for seniors in the community. Lions Club spokesperson and retired engineer Fred Wandland said that “helping all ages is important to the club, but they have seen an increasing need to help our older adult population during the pandemic.” The generous donation was the result of almost 40 years of fun-

Local State Representatives Named to Committees AUGUSTA York County state representatives have been named to several of the Legislature’s policy committees for the upcoming session: Sen. Joe Rafferty, D-Kennebunk, has been appointed to serve as Senate chair of the Joint Standing Committee on Labor and Housing for the 130th Maine Legislature. The Labor and Housing Committee is responsible for legislation related to the Department of Labor, working conditions, collective bargaining, public and private sector retirement systems, Maine State Housing Authority, landlord-tenant laws, housing safety, building codes and more. Rep. Christopher W. Babbidge, D-Kennebunk, will serve on the Judiciary Committee. This is his sixth non-consecutive term in the House. The Judiciary Committee oversees the state Judicial system, civil actions, including torts and medical malpractice, family law, constitutional rights,

reproductive rights, human rights and discrimination. Rep. Lydia Blume, D-York, will serve on both the Environment and Natural Resources Committee and the Marine Resources Committee. She is in her fourth term in the House. The Environment and Natural Resources Committee oversees state policy relating to air and water quality, natural resource protection, development laws, shoreland zoning, sustainable growth, the management and disposal of hazardous wastes, hydropower and dams, mining, the Department of Environmental Protection and returnable containers. Rep. Traci Gere, D-Kennebunkport, will serve on the Labor and Housing Committee. She is serving her first term in the House. The Labor and Housing Committee oversees policy related to workers’ rights, organized labor, work and safety standards, housing safety and access to affordable housing.

Rep. Patricia Hymanson, D- York, will serve on the Appropriations Committee. This is Hymanson’s fourth term in the House and her first term on the Appropriations Committee, having previously served as House chair of the Health and Human Services Committee. Rep Kristi Mathieson, DKittery, will serve on the Health Coverage, Insurance and Financial Services Committee. This is Mathieson’s first term in the House. Rep. Michele Meyer, D-Elliot, will serve as the House chair of the Health and Human Services Committee. This is her second term in the House, and her first term as chair. Rep. Tiffany Roberts, DSouth Berwick, will serve as the House chair of the Innovation, Development, Economic Advancement and Commerce Committee. draising support from summer and winter residents of York. One Lions Club member, who is also a York Hospital volunteer meal delivery driver, added that he has seen firsthand the great work the hospital does helping seniors on the hospital campus as well as in their homes. “Due to my own advanced age and increasing community spread with the virus, I’m not doing the home meal deliveries right now to be as safe as possible. But up until COVID19 came to the seacoast, I loved delivering meals to people and seeing how grateful they were to have some human interaction and get a healthy meal delivered right to their doorstep.” The York Lions Club and York Hospital agreed the Hancock Family Fund for Healthy Aging would benefit from the $35,000 donation, as the fund supports both medical and nonmedical programs focused on older adults. Home meal and prescription delivery services, as well as the hospital’s in-person medical House Calls program, have all seen sharp increases in demand due to the pandemic. Katherine Dodge, York Hospital leader for Older Adult Services confirmed that house calls are up 52% compared to last year as older, sicker patients have been wary to leave their homes. Similarly, York Hospital has delivered 58% more meals to seniors in their homes this year compared to 2019. concern, as Maine ranks first out of the 50 American states with the largest number of residents 65 and older (20.6%), followed closely by Florida (20.5%). York Hospital’s most recent Community Health Needs Assessment identified “Healthy Aging” as a priority health issue, with goals to increase senior access to quality healthcare and improve social determinants of health in the areas of food insecurity, social isolation, and transportation. Robin LaBonte, York Hospital’s co-CEO and CFO, thanked the Lions Club for their generous gift, saying that “York Hospital is proud to partner with the Lions Club to bolster our supportive senior services for those most vulnerable during to the pandemic and beyond.” To learn more, visit www. yorkhospital.com and https://kitterylions.club/. ...VETS from page 14 special EITC rules. ~ Sports & Classifieds ~ ...BOWL from page 1 difficult for diehard fans to attend the game in person. Instead, individuals will have to view the game on TV or by streaming it from online. Here are some ways to safely celebrate while enjoying the game: Go cashless. For those who will be at Raymond James Stadium for the big game, cash is not king. The NFL has partnered with Visa to employ cashless payment systems for everything at the venue. In addition, there will be reverse ATMs to turn cash into pre-paid cards to use for purchases. Order in. The Super Bowl is one of the biggest nights for pizza sales and other takeout. Fans can make it even more so by ordering from their favorite restaurants — many of which have been hit hard during the pandemic. Keep gatherings small. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization and other public health advisory groups continue to maintain that social distancing is the best way to help curb the spread of COVID-19. That means keeping crowds small and separate. If possible, host the party outside, as the virus does not spread as easily outdoors as it does indoors. Encourage guests to dress warmly and provide heat sources, like fire pits or propane heaters. Host a digital watch party. Video conferencing apps have been used for everything from work to school. Fans can gather online and watch the game simultaneously, but in their own homes. Share the cheers, jeers and some beers over an internet connection. The Super Bowl may be a bit different this year, but fans can still root for their favorite team – The Kansas City Chiefs or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!

Maine State Parks Crush Recreation Visit Records AUGUSTA The Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry’s (DACF) Bureau of Parks & Lands (BPL) has compiled its year-end Maine state park visitation statistics. As expected, 2020 activity broke all records for recreation visits, which includes day-use and camping. For the first time, total state park attendance topped three million visitor-days. Despite pandemic-related spring closures and season-long capacity limitations, a total of 3,067,112 people visited Maine state parks. In 2020, the BPL welcomed 2,786,750 day-use visitors, up 74,532 (3%) from 2019; and 280,362 camping visitors, up 21,871 (8%) from 2019. 2018 edged out 2019 as the second-highest year for recreation visits, followed by 2016 and 2017. “Everyone wants and needs to get outside, and Maine state parks are some the best destinations to relax and reinvigorate,” said Andy Cutko, Maine Bureau of Parks & Lands Director. “In particular, with various travel limitations in place, it was great to see so many Maine families discovering our state parks for the first time. The whole BPL team and I extend a huge and warm thank you to everybody who arrived at the parks prepared with face coverings and hand sanitizer and all the other requisite supplies for getting outside safely during the pandemic.” State park camping reservations opened for Sebago Lake State Park only on February 1.
