Rhett’s Roost Fundraising Polar Plunge at Ogunquit Beach OGUNQUIT The first annual ‘Behold the Cold’ Polar Plunge in support of Rett’s Roost Retreats will be taking place both remotely and in-person at Ogunquit’s Main Beach on March 6 at 11 a.m. (extreme weather alternative: March 13 at 11 a.m.). Rhett’s Roost is an organization that provides a peaceful, supportive place for families that have experienced childhood cancer or child loss. Weekend retreats, family socials, and virtual offerings that focus on mindful healing of trauma and grief through therapeutic and community support. The fundraiser officially kicked off
on February 22, 2022 (2/22/22), the 7th anniversary of Rett’s passing, and the event allows participants to fundraise in several ways. Anyone who would like to participate can start their own fundraising page for Rett’s Roost with the goal of raising $222 or more (not a requirement, but greatly appreciated). Participants can design their own fundraising page at https://secure.givelively.org/donate/rett-s-roost/behold-the-cold2022-polar-plunge and then click on the “I Want To Fundraise For This”. Participants can also create a fundraiser on Facebook. The fundraiser culminates on March 6 with participants plunging into any cold
body of water or take part at the group event at Ogunquit Beach. Participants can plunge in solidarity or with their own group. Students Assembling Care Kits Fife & Drum Corps for the Homeless at Local Churches Recruiting, Will Train! KENNEBUNK / WELLS Through March 6, middle school students in faith formation classes at Holy Spirit Parish, which includes St. Mar tha Church in Kennebunk and St. Mary Church in Wells, are busy collecting items to assemble “care kits” for the homeless in their communities. “Care kits are gallon-sized to-go bags filled with basic necessities that can be distributed to people who need them on the street, at homeless shelters, and at soup kitchens,” said Carolyn

Annual AJ Davis Memorial Ice Fishing Derby ALFRED The fourth annual AJ Davis Memorial Ice Fishing Derby will take place Sunday, February 27 on Shaker Pond in Alfred beginning at 6:30 a.m. Registration is $20 for adults; $10 for kids. Adult prizes are $500 for first place, $250 for second place, and $125 for third place ,while kids can win trophies and prizes for 1-7 place. The derby was created to raise money for scholarships to be awarded in memory of 16-year-old AJ who died in 2017 (pictured). Scholarships are awarded to high school

seniors. AJ was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed the great state of Maine and all it had to offer. he loved summers, spending time at camp fishing and boating. The fishing derby, held in March on Shaker pond in Alfred, was created by his outdoor partner (aka “dad”), Scott Davis. With the generosity of the community and derby participants, Scott was able to award four graduates with $1,000 AJ Davis memorial scholarships last year.
