Mandy Sumner

The depths of the ocean call to Mandy Sumner. She answers by diving deeper and ever deeper, immersing herself in the water she so loves. This world champion freediver burst onto the scene in 2014 at the age of 36 and has been making waves in the sport ever since.

A North Berwick native, Sumner garnered headlines earlier this month by setting the new Guinness World Record for the longest bi-fin swim under ice by a woman in a swimsuit - no wetsuit. The now 46-year-old achieved this triumph on Saturday, March 2 at Lake Mysutjernet in Norway. To set the record, the intrepid Sumner swam 75 meters (246 feet) under 19 inches of ice in 35-degree water. She explains how she dealt with

Deep Water Diva

the frigid Norwegian water. “You have to overcome it,” she says. “You need to disconnect your brain from your body a little bit.”

The intense sport of freediving is not for the faint of heart. It involves diving under water as deep as you can - or swimming under ice for distance - without the use of breathing apparatus. Also called breath-hold diving, this sport requires great mental toughness as well as physical ability. “That’s what’s so special about freediving,” Sumner says. “It’s so much about the mind, not just physical fitness.”

Sumner’s foray into freediving came about seemingly by chance, although fate may have lent a guiding hand. In 2009, looking to capitalize on her University of Southern Maine degree in Geoscience, also known as Earth Science, she moved

to Hawaii for work. Here, she discovered scuba diving, and at the suggestion of friends, gave freediving a try.

She immediately fell in love with the thrilling sport and set out to learn everything she could about it. When she realized she was a natural, she decided to pursue it further. “I wanted to see how far I could go,” she says. “I still want to know how far I can go. I like challenges.”

The neophyte freediver began competing in 2014 and finished as the top woman in only her second competition. This was a harbinger of things to come. In 2015, Sumner won the first and only gold medal for the United States in freediving with a dive to 58 meters (190 feet) with no fins in the Depth World Championships

Empowering Women Leaders: Breaking Biases

KITTERY -

Despite significant strides toward equality, women continue to face obstacles and challenges when seeking leadership roles in their workplace and community. In honor of Women’s History Month, the Town of Kittery is excited to host a new event that shines a light on the critical issue of gender bias in leadership and empowers women to claim their seat at the table.

The event, titled “She’s Too Emotional: Overcoming Biases as Women Leaders and Claiming Your Seat at the Table,” will feature local women leaders in municipal government, public safety, small business owner-

ship and the non-profit sector to discuss gender bias challenges in leadership and the impact it has on individuals and organizations. Through the stories and experiences of the day’s speakers, the organization aims to encourage women to embrace leadership roles, challenge stereotypes, and drive positive change in their communities.

Each speaker brings a

unique perspective and story, providing invaluable insights and inspiration for aspiring women leaders. Speakers will include: Kittery Town Manager Kendra Amaral; Black Heritage Trail NH Executive Director JerriAnne Boggis; Portsmouth City Manager Karen Conard; Kittery Firefighter Kellie Huddleston; Kittery Aroma Joe’s Branch Owner Maryna Shuliakouskaya;

Ogunquit Parking Updates for 2024 Season

OGUNQUIT -

The 2024 parking season is fast approaching, with the Town lots beginning to charge starting Friday, April 12. The following changes will be in effect at that time:

Resident Beach Parking Pass Program: The first change involves the Resident Beach Parking Pass Program. This year’s only change is that physical passes will no longer be issued. Instead, the vehicle’s license plate will serve as the parking pass. The Town uses electronic enforcement tools to check their database, including an automatic license plate reader and electronic parking ticket devices. This database tracks unpaid previous tickets, beach pass status, and meter or

app payments. For the past two years, the license plate has been the primary method for identifying whether there is a valid parking pass, with the physical sticker pass serving as a backup during the testing phase of the automated systems. This transition enhances enforcement efficiency and reduces the need for manual verification of pass status. It also offers greater convenience for residents, eliminating the need to remove old passes and apply new ones.

Those who have purchased a new vehicle or are temporarily using a rental due to an accident or mechanical issue can email the Town with their details to update the information in the database. The pricing for the passes remains unchanged,

Open Weekdays 7-5 Weekends 9-3

with first and second passes costing $40 each. To apply, visit https://ogunquitme.governmentwindow.com/payer_login.html.

Pass holders can create an account or pay as a guest from the home screen. From there, they follow the prompts to complete the payment and fill out the forms. Once the process is complete, a confirmation will be considered for provisional approval, and they can park immediately. It may take up to 24 hours for the system to update, however, so if a pass holder receives a ticket during that time, they can submit the confirmation along with an appeal to have it voided.

If the Town needs additional information after submission, they will reach out with the next steps required.

For Town Business Employee Parking Passes, businesses will receive an email with instructions the week of April 1. New businesses opening in Ogunquit or those who have updated their email address may email Ilene Kanoff at ikanoff@ ogunquit.gov.

Processing Fee Waiver for online pay-by-check transactions

for Beach Passes and Taxes: The Town has received feedback from residents indicating that the additional processing fee added to online payments poses a significant barrier to applying for and paying for their passes online. Previously, the Town passed this fee on to the applicant, even for check payments, which incur a flat fee of $2.95 when processed online. In an effort to promote the use of the online system, the Select Board has decided that the Town will absorb this processing fee for both Beach Passes and Tax payments made via checking account online. The cost will be covered by funds generated from interest earned on overdue tax payments.

Residents can still apply for their parking passes in-person at the Town Hall. Starting Monday, April 1, available hours are: Mondays, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. (if Monday is a holiday, then Tuesday, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.); Thursdays, 1-4 p.m.; and Fridays, 1-4 p.m. Jacobs Lot will now offer paid parking, with all spots limited to two hours between 8

a.m. and 2 a.m. However, after 6 p.m., the two-hour limit does not apply. Parking in Jacobs Lot will cost $5 per hour, and payment will only be accepted through the Passport phone app. Resident parking passes, as with all other lots, will allow parking in this lot. The Town utilizes both Passport and Park Mobile for parking applications.

Extended operating hours and overnight paid parking in the Lower and Main Beach Lots: Paid parking will be in effect in both the Lower and Main Beach lots until 2 a.m. Additionally, for the first time, the Town will allow paid overnight parking in these lots. It is important to note that the prohibition against sleeping in vehicles remains in effect, and the Beach will continue to be closed at 11 p.m.

The parking rates for the Main Beach lot are as follows: $7 per hour 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. and $4 per hour 9 p.m. - 2 a.m. For all-day parking, 8 a.m. - 9 p.m., the cost is $40, while the overnight, rate 6 p.m. - 8 a.m., is $30. Overnight parking is permitted from June 1 through September 30 and can only be paid using phone apps.

in Cyprus. This prestigious event is the highest-level competition in freediving on the world stage.

To this day, Sumner’s proudest achievement is winning the gold for the USA. The win was even more special because it was unexpe cted. “Winning the gold,”

she says, “was very shocking to me, and to a lot of other people as well.” This momentous victory propelled her on a journey around the globe to compete in countries that include Italy, Greece, Egypt, and Mexico. The impressive Sumner possesses the physical and mental adaptability to compete in warm-water deep

dives as well as bone-chilling under-ice distance swims like the Norway competition that earned her the World Record.

Mandy Sumner may be a relative newcomer to freediving, but she is no stranger to water.

Growing up in North Berwick, she was swimming at six months old and competing by the age of five. Her competitive spirit

flourished during her years on the Sanford Titans swim team. While attending Noble High School, which lacked a swim team, the bold Sumner started one. “I’ve always been an athlete of some sort,” she says. She smiles broadly and adds, “I grew up with water.”

Water holds a special significance for Sumner. “I think water is very healing,” she says thoughtfully. “Even just being at the beach and looking at the water is healing for me.” She has great respect for the water and its significance to the world. “Water is really important to our way of life,” she says. “We are killing our oceans.” She stresses the importance of ocean conservation. “Water is our life source. It’s what sustains us.”

Diving deep beneath the ocean’s surface is a profound experience for Sumner. “When you’re under there in the depths,” she says, “it’s peaceful. You’re only with yourself. You are alone with your own truth.” This water-lover finds serenity where many others would find fear. “As soon as I’m under the water or the ice,” she says, “everything else goes away. All the worries disappear.”

Sumner’s underwater serenity only increases the deeper she goes. She says when one goes deep enough, they start a freef-

all. “That feels so good,” she says. “You’re feeling the water and the depth. You really have to trust yourself down there.” She says the mental push to go deeper is big, but that she listens to her body. “I know my limits,” she says.

She admits all freedivers experience some degree of panic from time to time, but says mental focus is essential to overcoming fear. “I train myself mentally, not just physically,” she says. She is likewise unafraid of the increased pressure the deeper water exerts on the body. “Humans have mammalian dive reflex like dolphins and whales,” she explains. “Our body, particularly our lungs, adapts to the pressure of depth and the decrease of pressure when we rise to the surface.”

Sumner’s training is comprised of swimming, breathholding training, and dry-land stamina building. While she does some of her swimming in pools, she says most pools in the US do not allow breath-holding training, due to safety concerns. Mental training is arguably the most crucial element. This consists of building relaxation, confidence, and focus.

Training for under-ice freediving poses its own challenges.

Sumner was surprised by how quickly her body acclimated to the cold in Norway, but says she did short dips at first and worked up to longer periods submerged. She understands why the ice dip trend has become so popular as of late. “It’s so invigorating,” she says. “And it’s really good for you mentally as well as good for your body.”

While she is most at home in the water, Sumner has a deep affinity for nature in general. “I am a huge nature person,” she declares. She enjoys occasional time in the city, but says she needs to live surrounded by nature. “I am a science person,” she says. “Science and nature always called to me.”

The science person in Sumner sees each deep dive as an opportunity to explore the sea life that surrounds her. “When I’m diving, I’m not always train-

ing,” she says. “I’m in the water with large sea animals, seeing the beauty of the coral, the lay of the land under water.” She is passionate about learning the limitless secrets the ocean holds. “We’ve explored everything on the earth,” she says. “We’ve scaled the greatest heights, but we don’t even know what lies in the depths of the ocean.”

The ocean Sumner is studying most these days is right here in her native Maine. Now living in Sanford, she is putting to use her master’s degree in GIS (Geographic Information System) in her work as a senior GIS analyst. She may be back in Maine, but part of her still belongs to Hawaii, the land of her freediving roots, where she keeps a home.

This remarkable athlete is far from ready to leave the world of freediving, and dreams of a long future ahead in the sport.

Paranormal Adult Ed Courses at NACE

NORTH BERWICK -

Four new courses in the paranormal field are being offered by award-winning local author and medium, Rob Gutro. He will be teaching the courses at Noble Adult and Community Education (NACE), 100 Noble Way, in North Berwick. The courses are interactive, as Gutro encourages participants to share their own paranormal experiences during class.

Gutro’s courses in the “En-

Embark

richment” and “Spirituality” areas are offered on Tuesday evenings throughout April. His courses include: “Pets and the Afterlife” (April 2), where students learn how to recognize signs from pets who have passed; “A Double Murder Ghost Investigation” (April 9), about a paranormal investigation in a private home that led to the discovery of two earthbound ghosts from a horrible crime; “An Amazing Spirit Treasure Hunt” (April 23), a story that

reveals how one man’s spirit gave Rob the clues needed to help solve the mystery of the man’s passing, providing proof of his existence around his family; “Signs from Departed Loved Ones” on April 30, where students learn how the spirits of their loved ones communicate.

As a teenager, Rob Gutro learned he could receive messages from those who have crossed over to the afterlife. As a scientist, he provides some scientific explanations about how energy serves as the foundation for the afterlife and how those who have passed on can utilize that energy for communication. Rob participates in private paranormal investigations, helps human ghosts cross over, and has relayed countless messages from people and pets who have passed on. Rob once even lived in a haunted house.

He has three series of books, with multiple books within each series. They include: “Pets and the Afterlife” (volumes 1-4); “Ghosts on a Medium’s Vacation,” and “Ghosts versus Spirits.” All of Gutro’s books have achieved “Best Seller” status on Amazon, meaning they have reached the top 100 in various categories. His last three books were all #1 New Sellers on Amazon, with “Pets and the Afterlife 3,” winning an

STATEWIDEGoodwin’s Mills Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Ben Harris remembers removing his air pack after a carbon monoxide meter found no hazard of that sort at a fire call on Kennebunk Pond Road a couple of decades or more ago. He remembers another firefighter suggesting he put it back on, because there could be other chemicals at play, and so he did.

physicians.

York County Fire Administrator Roger Hooper, in the fire service since he started as a junior firefighter in 1978, also scored high for the presence of PFAS in his blood. “I have no health issues, but this is something to watch, and my doctor knows what to look for,” he said.

female firefighters, along with an echocardiogram, carotid doppler, and aortic aneurism. The tests cost $325 on average, but some departments are picking up the tab.

screened are the only ones with access to the results. He adds that the MFCA will get aggregate data that does not include any confidential information.

Hooper, Saco Deputy Fire Chief Rob Martin, and York Village Fire Department Chief Chris Balentine spearheaded the York County contingent of the MFCA initiative to get firefighters statewide to undergo tests for cancer and cardiovascular disease. Hooper estimates about 100 York County firefighters will take part in the screenings this year.

Harris is okay, but the longtime volunteer firefighter learned through a recent blood draw, taken for a firefighter cancer study, showed the presence of Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a group of chemicals once used in firefighting foam and found in an array of products, scoring “super high” for PFAS. He is physically fine, but the test results are something to frequently monitor. A careful watch is vital because when it comes to cancer, early detection is said to be everything.

When one works in an industry that was named a carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization in July 2022, the importance of regular checkups and taking part in testing, all with an eye to early detection, could well be a lifesaver. That is why Maine firefighters, whether they are volunteers, per diems, full-timers, or retirees, have opportunities to take care of their occupational health. They can participate in testing organized by the Maine Fire Chiefs Association (MFCA), which can help provie them with valuable information to share with their

Tests are conducted in York County locations and in various other communities across Maine – 12 in all, according to Auburn Fire Chief Bob Chase. The tests, administered by United Diagnostic Services LLC, include checks of the liver, spleen, kidneys, a bladder ultrasound, tests for testicular cancer, a pelvic test for

“Cancer and cardiovascular disease are two of the ranking causes of line of duty deaths,” said Chase, an MFCA board member who chairs the organization’s health and safety committee. He said some firefighter retirees have offered to pay the fee themselves for the testing. “The ultimate goal is we want to do this annually, to build data for the state of Maine of cancer occurrences and then go to Legislature and get funding for firefighter cancer issues to get covered,” he adds. “Now because of the screening I got, I have a medical diagnosis and my doctor can order continued monitoring,” said Chase. “Now it has been indicated, I can get continued screening,”

The Maine testing initiative follows in the footsteps of other firefighter programs aimed at

addressing cancer risks. The Firefighter Cancer Assessment and Prevention Study recently tested 603 volunteer firefighters across the country, 91 of whom were from Maine. Of those, 50 were York County volunteer firefighters, said Judith Graber, a Rutgers University professor

Chase said the company doing the screening is conscientious about keeping medical information private, and those

Winter has come and gone without feeling like it ever arrived! But, that does not dampen the joy that comes with the first day of spring. With snowdrops and crocus in bloom, daffodils and tulips just awakening and forsythia braving the early spring winds, hope is in full swing. The spring garden is so magical, and perhaps no flower is more magical than the Iris – Goddess of the Rainbow.

Iris was the messenger of the ancient Greek gods and appeared

to mere mortals winging across the sky as a rainbow. Across different cultures, the iris is associated with various meanings from wisdom and hope in the West to courage and admiration in the Far East. These flowers are characterized by their unique structure of three upright petals called “standards,” and three drooping petals called “falls.” Their resilience and adaptability allow them to flourish in a wide range of climates and conditions, making them a beloved staple of the garden. The delicate, short-lived blossoms come in many shapes and sizes

and as many breathtaking colors as a rainbow.

One of the more glorious varieties is the bearded iris. They bloom in sync with many spring bulbs and add a flamboyant boost to the border with their large ruffled petals that resemble fuzzy beards. These beauties range in color from soft parchment to every imaginable shade of purple and blue through yellow and orange. While shades of red including pink, wine, and maroon so dark it appears black can be found, there is no pure red variety of iris! Many come in two-tones, or “hombres” shades, from deep to pale and range in size from tall and stately to short and low to the ground. Once the flowers have passed, their spiky erect foliage makes a nice focal point and continues to give the garden bed structure, texture, and interest

throughout the growing season. Siberian and Japanese iris are distinguished by their tall, slender, willowy foliage. They are hardy and practically carefree, do well in moist soils, and look lovely gracing the edge of ponds and other water features. Siberian irises have smaller butterfly-like flowers in various shades of blue and purple and even soft yellow that fades to white. Japanese iris boast large, flat blossoms in a range of blues and purples and come in various heights, making them quite versatile in the garden bed. They are great anchors to the garden, offering graceful foliage that holds up right into fall when the leaves turn a bronzy golden yellow. Both varieties bloom in early-mid June and look great planted with soft yellow day lilies and white and pink peonies. With names like “Darling,” “Dear De-

Iris reticulata are tiny iris grown from bulbs that bloom in early spring and are perfect for adding a pop of purple alongside snowdrops and crocus. They love well-drained soil and are a great addition to the rock garden or under the shade of a flowering tree or shrub. Iris cristata is another charming miniature iris that grows both purple or white. They are a wonderful woodland ground cover and do well interplanted with other wildflowers or with spring bulbs. In the right conditions they will happily spread en mass.

Native blue flag iris can be found gracing natural wetland throughout the Northeast. It has sword-shaped blue-green leaves, and produces wide bluish-purple flowers with yellow and white blotches. They are quite charming and hardy and adaptable enough for wetter garden beds or water gardens. On the other hand, the yellow flag iris, which was brought to this country as an ornamental from parts of Europe,

Delicious and nostalgic, homemade Cinnamon Toast Crunch makes for a great midmorning breakfast snack or afternoon treat, and the recipe can be adjusted for levels of sweetness or cinnamon.

Ingredients:

4 cups flour, all-purpose or whole wheat

1 cup sugar

1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt

1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted 1/4 cup milk (can substitiue almond of coconut milk, if desired)

1 tsp. vanilla extract

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350° F, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Weekly Recipe: Homemade Cinnamon Toast Crunch

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon. Mix well to ensure even distribution.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix, using hands until everything is well combined and a dough forms.

Divide the dough into two equal portions. Using a rolling pin, roll out one half of the dough between two sheets of parchment paper until very thin, about 1/8” thick. Use a knife or a pizza cutter to cut the rolled-out dough into small squares, roughly 1” x 1” or so.

Transfer the cut pieces onto the prepared baking sheet, evenly separating each piece. Repeat the rolling and cutting process with the remaining dough. Bake for about 10-12 minutes until golden brown

and crispy. Keep an eye on them, as baking times may vary based on thickness.

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cereal pieces cool completely on the pan. Squares will continue to crisp up a bit as they cool.

Once cooled, store the cereal in an airtight container at room temperature. Enjoy with milk, or with yogurt and berries. Yum!

Asia and North Africa, can be quite invasive. With so many cultivars to choose from, it is best to leave the yellow ones alone and not introduce into the garden bed. Most irises need at least six hours of sunlight per day. Some can take some shade, so be sure to check labels when purchasing from a garden center or site. Irises are easy to care for, most are hardy to Zone 4, and require moist to average, well-drained soil. So grab some as soon as possible – and enjoy a rainbow goddess in the garden!

Emma’s Angels

NORTH BERWICK -

We have a very handsome pet of the week! Meet Gus. Gus is a young Lab/Boston Terrier mix whose life was saved at the last minute from a severely overcrowded shelter in the South.

Gus is a happy guy who likes to play and be silly. He is about 35 lbs., is neutered, and is up-to-date on his vaccinations. He would make a wonderful companion to walk Maine’s beaches this summer. If you would like to meet Gus, call Emma’s Angels today.

Emma’s Angels Rescue is an all-volunteer, foster-based organization located in North Berwick. Needed at this time: dry dog and wet cat food. The shelter is currently on their last bag of dry food. They prefer to feed Blue Buffalo Lamb and Brown Rice, and Friskies Paté wet food. Thank you for your support!

WELLSSafe Haven’s Scaredy Cat School is located inside the Cattail Farm shop at 1784 Post Road. This is where several of the shelter’s shy kitties reside, where they receive more concentrated attention and socializing. Safe Haven’s team of devoted volunteers have appointed shifts during the week to sit with and pet the kitties, nurturing their confidence and getting them used to the comings and goings of several different people while readying them for their adoption. who was the principal investigator for the study. Blood and urine samples were collected from participants, alongside comprehensive questioning covering various aspects such as the frequency of firefighter responses to calls within a specified timeframe, family history of cancer, and personal habits including smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity, and other relevant factors. Graber and others worked closely with fire service partners to design the research in a way that worked for them. Every participant receives their individual results from the study, which was specifically

Haven always hope that pairs of cats will bond while they socialize, so that both kitties have a “support animal” to go with them when they are adopted. Rarely are two cats socialized at the same pace, and so often there are pairs of kitties where one is brave and the other is still reserved and uncertain.

Such is the case with Simon II and River. Simon has become the outgoing, trusting kitty, while River is the observer, watching her friend interact with the people around them.

River has become more confident, and the team does see

conducted to analyze cancer incidences among firefighters. “The idea is to give participants and fire departments actionable data,” said Graber. In addition, a toolkit is being designed to centralize online resources about cancer prevention in the fire service, Discussions regarding the correlation between firefighting and cancer have been ongoing for quite some time. The conversation surrounding firefighting and cancer first became significant for Ogunquit Fire Chief Russell Osgood during his tenure with

her confidence growing. She no longer scoots up on a high perch when volunteers are in the room. Instead, she ventures within their reach, showing a growing bravery and trust.

Both cats are simply beautiful, tiger-and-white colored Maine Coon mixes, with fuzzy ears and feet, flowing manes and dense coats. They look like siblings, but are not, having come from the same mother but separate litters. Simon II and River lived in a sad situation before they were rescued, but are now safe and sound at Safe Haven. The volunteers understand that Simon II will adjust to a new home quickly, but River will take more time to do so, and they are seeking an appropriate home for them both so they can stay together for life.

Simon II and River need a home with someone who is experienced with cats, preferably a quiet home with no young children or dogs. They need a calm, patient presence in their

lives, someone who will nurture their personalities and encourage River to come out of her shell. Interested adopters who want to spend some time with these two beautiful felines can call the shelter at the number listed in the info block below.

The shop is now seeking donations of craft supplies: yarns, fabrics, lace, art supplies, jewelry-making supplies, etc. They are also in need of small pieces of furniture: cupboards, side tables, bookcases, curio cabinets, dressers, etc. Garden supplies, clean, gently worn clothing, linens, jewelry, antiques and anything vintage are also greatly accepted at this time. Come shop for great bargains while supporting a great cause – Thank you!

Stephan Bunker, a cancer survivor himself, is state director for the Firefighter Cancer Support Network (FCSN). “(Cancer) is a subject people don’t like to talk about,” said Bunker. He encourages firefighters who have a cancer diagnosis to contact him. As well as helping individual firefighters, Bunker is available to host trainings on how to reduce cancer risk on the job, emphasizing that he will “go anywhere, anytime” to help.

Bunker, a veteran of 45 years in the fire service, stresses proactive health monitoring. He urges industry members to join the National Firefighter Registry and promptly seek medical evaluation when they notice symptoms, as they often overlook warning signs. Bunker emphasized his spouse’s crucial role in detecting his brain cancer early, underscoring her lifesaving contribution to

RENTAL WANTED

Rental Wanted:

3+ Bedroom, 2+ Bath, Single-Family Home for Rent in Wells/Ogunquit Area

Seeking a welcoming and spacious single-family home for long-term rental in the charming Wells/Ogunquit area. Our family is looking to move in by May 22 and are interested in a lease term of at least one year. It’s essential for us to find a place that feels like home, so we’re looking for a property with at least three bedrooms and two bathrooms to comfortably accommodate our family.

Key Requirements:

Location: Wells/Ogunquit area, with a preference for quiet, family-friendly neighborhoods.

Pet-Friendly: We have well-behaved pets that are part of our family, so it’s important that the property is pet-friendly.

Amenities: Seeking a home with ample living space, a functional kitchen, and ideally, a backyard or outdoor area for relaxation and play.

Maintenance: Good condition and well-maintained property preferred, with reliable property management or landlord support for any issues.

We are responsible tenants with a steady income, looking to create a warm and stable environment. We value cleanliness and will take great care of the property as if it were our own. References and security deposit readily available upon request.

If you have a property that fits these criteria, please call us at 207-432-4947. We are very excited about the possibility of making your property our next home. Thank you for considering our ad!

Additionally, he will engage in the Maine Fire Chiefs Association ultrasound diagnostic testing study. Notably, Harris highlighted improvements in firefighter facilities, including a gear-washing machine at his department, which eliminates the need for firefighters to clean their gear at home. He remembers the year his father, Bill Harris, stood up at the 1999 Town Meeting to advocate for showers at the fire station – the measure passed.

Osgood, Hooper, Harris, and Bunker all noted the importance of firefighters doing as much as they can to rid their gear and their bodies of soot as soon as they can. They recommend the use of baby wipes to remove soot from their head, neck, face, hands, and gear, right at the scene, to wash turnout gear at the station in a machine designed for the purpose, and to get into the shower and get rid of all that soot.

“There is a lot of tradition and pride in firefighting,” said Harris. “If our group can leave a legacy around what this means –to understand cancer – it would be amazing.”
