Hudson Runs Boston Marathon to Support Diabetes Center ELIOT For Kyle Hudson (pictured), one of the greatest roles he has taken on is being an uncle to his ten-year-old nephew, Grant. When Grant was just two years old, he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The diagnosis came as a shock, since there was no prior history of diabetes in the family. Looking for what was best for Grant, his parents – Kyle’s brother Mark and his wife Sarah – brought him to Joslin Diabetes Center, a world-renowned

diabetes treatment and research center in Boston, MA. Grant and his family have relied on Joslin since day one to help him live his best life. With the support of Joslin, Grant is able to play sports and do everything that kids without type 1 can do. Prior to Grant’s diagnosis, Hudson had never heard of Joslin and didn’t know the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Grant’s parents gushed to Hudson about the care they’ve received from Joslin and their

positive experiences. It helped Hudson learn so much about type 1 and is what prompted him to run the Boston Marathon as part of Team Joslin. This will be Hudson’s third time running a marathon, but the first time he is running Boston. Though he grew up in New Hampshire and now resides in Eliot, he is familiar with the marathon route, since he attended Boston College. He had tried to run Boston in the past but did not qualify, so he shelved

the idea for a while. He didn’t reconsider until his brother Mark approached him toward the end of 2021 and asked if he wanted to run the marathon with Team Joslin. Hudson was hesitant, since it would be a quick turnaround for training; but he wanted to support Grant in any way he could. Hudson has enjoyed the fundraising aspect of running the marathon, and raising money See MARATHON page 9 . . .
