The Thresher (SSN 693) was the first nuclear-powered attack submarine of its class when it was designed and built at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery during the early 1960s. On April 10, 1963, following a ninemonth overhaul at the shipyard, the Thresher was undergoing sea trials off the coast when it sank. All 129 Navy sailors and civilian technicians aboard perished. The accident marked the first time a nuclear sub had been lost at sea. Taking place at the very height of the Cold War with the Soviet Union, just six

months after the Cuban Missile Crisis, the loss of the Thresher made front-page news around the world. To this day, no other submarine incident has resulted in a greater loss of life. Kerr, author of “Silent Strength–Remembering the Men of Genius and Adventure Lost in the World’s Worst Submarine Disaster, will focus during his presentation on the lives of some of the Cold War casualties who died that day. Several of those lost were employees of the shipyard and Seacoast natives. Others were Navy crewmen who were

WELLS Every day in America, including in Wells, individuals and groups lend their time and service to help strengthen and meet the needs of their communities. In addition to the many boards, committees, and programs residents serve on through the Wells Volunteer Force, there are national organizations that send volunteers to work in communities as well. Two such groups are AmeriCorps and Senior Corps. Participants in these programs serve in more than 50,000 locations across the country including Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve at Laudholm, and through Meals on Wheels. Altogether, 18 national service participants provided over 3200 hours of service last year in Wells to help improve the quality of life in the town and assist local senior citizens. AmeriCorps volunteers assisted in so many ways at both Rachel Carson and Wells Reserve at Laudholm. They re-

stored miles of existing hiking trails, removed thousands of pounds of exotic and invasive vegetation, tended or cared for trees and shrubs; built, painted, and installed informative signs along trails, and picked up debris along the shorelines. Meals on Wheels volunteers delivered nourishing meals to seniors in the community who were unable to cook for themselves. For many, this program not only provides dinners but also is a vital source of companionship for those who are unable to leave their homes. On April 4, the Board of Selectmen Chair Karl Ekstedt will recognize the contributions of these volunteers in the community by proclaiming the day as National Service Recognition Day. Join the 7 p.m. meeting in the Littlefield Meeting Room at Town Hall to help honor AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, Meals on Wheels and all local volunteers for the wonderful contributions they make to the community every day.

WHS Student Receives President’s Volunteer Service Award

WELLS – Wells High School Principal Eileen Sheehy has announced that Emma Clarrage, a senior at WHS, has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Clarrage received this recognition for 197 hours of volunteer community service. As of mid-March 2017, she had reached 223 hours of service. Clarrage was notified of this honor through a letter from

the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program which grants the award on behalf of the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. This award is sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP). “Emma Clarrage is an excellent student and a distinguished community member,” commented Principal Sheehy. “Her positive presence permeates our school and is contagiously welcoming. She is an inspiring example of someone who makes a difference in her community. I am extremely proud that Emma has been selected for her outstanding citizenship.” Along with a certificate,

Clarrage received a letter from former President Barack Obama. “Congratulations on receiving the President’s Volunteer Service Award, and thank you for helping to address the most pressing needs in your community and our country,” wrote Obama. In relation to the above news, Wells High School nominated Clarrage last fall for national honors in recognition of her volunteer service including time spent volunteering at Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire. “Extremely exciting,” said Clarrage when asked about receiving the Presidential award. At WHS she is a member of the Student Council (Treasurer) and Interact Club, “FEMS in STEM” which focuses on careers in math

and science for women, plus coach for the WJHS Division II Odyssey of the Mind Team. The Prudential Spirit of Community Award recognizes mid-level and high school students across the United States for outstanding volunteer service.

His wife Elizabeth was five months pregnant at the time with their only son, and was also left to raise the couple’s two young daughters on her own. The Kittery museum event is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in Memorial Park, located next to Kittery Town Hall. This park includes a bronze plaque listing the names of all the heroes who died aboard the Thresher, and an interpretive marker detailing the tragedy’s history. The presentation will then move to the museum building, which includes an exhibit com-

memorating the Thresher and USS Squalus disasters. There Kerr will provide a Power Point talk, complete with photos, to help put names and faces to the Thresher story. He will also have copies of “Silent Strength” for sale, with all proceeds going to the Thresher

Players are proud to present Disney Theatrical Group’s and Cameron Mackintosh's “Mary Poppins,” running from April 5-8. This production is based on the stories of P. L. For this showing, senior citizens and students are admitted free with adult tickets set at $5. The April 6th show begins at 7 pm with general admission seating. Tickets for this show are $5 for senior citizens and students and $8 for adults. As Wiz pushes her team over the brink, it’s up to the understudies to step up to the challenge at the competition Bob Carbone, stage director/producer, and Susan Frank, music director/choreographer, have been working with the cast and crew since early December to prepare for the upcoming production. For the second year they are using the stage at York Middle School due to the construction of the new auditorium. A unique twist this year has been added. Three students from the Drama Club, Hailey Springer, Evie Finucan, and Abby Balonis have each been charged with choreographing one of the major musical numbers. Along with being in the cast they have developed the dances and taught them to their cast-mates. The premise of “Understudies the Musical

Alfred “Al E. Roberts Jr. WELLS – Al Roberts died peacefully on March 25, 2017 at The Birches of Concord. He was born in 1930 to Margaret (Burns) Roberts and Alfred E. Roberts in Brooklyn, NY. Al grew up in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn attending parochial schools and graduated from Saint Francis Prep in 1948. After graduation, he joined The Redemptorists as a brother where he served in Baltimore, MD, Philadelphia, and Ephrata, PA. When he decided the religious life was not for him, he moved back to Brooklyn and joined the Army where he served in Alabama for two years. It was there he met his lifelong friend, Dr. John Atkinson, who would invite Al home with him on leave and introduced him to his family and friends and eventually persuaded Al to attend LSU after the service. While Al attended LSU, he taught at Our Lady of Mercy School in Baton Rouge. During his trips back to Brooklyn while attending LSU, Al fell in love with his first wife, Margaret

Kelleher. They married a year before he graduated and she moved to Louisiana and worked as a nurse for the LSU football team. All three of their daughters were born in Baton Rouge. After graduation, Al worked as an executive for many years for Blue Cross which moved him to New Jersey from 1968 to 1970, then back to Baton Rouge then New Orleans until in 1976. He decided to follow his lifelong dream of living in New England and moved his family to Franklin, NH where he started work with Northeast Delta Dental not long after the Concord office opened. Al thoroughly enjoyed his career as a marketing executive and the many friends he made over those years. His beloved wife, Margie, passed away in 1985. A couple of years later, he met and married his second wife, Simone Bourgeois. After Al’s retirement, they lived in Wells, where they owned an art gallery together. Al painted and Simone framed. They spent their winters in Hutchinson Island, FL where they had many cherished friendships. After Simone’s passing in 2013, Al continued to go to FL in the winters until 2015 when he moved back to New Hampshire to be near his family. Al was an artist all his life. He painted in oil and watercolor. His paintings hang in homes from Florida to Maine. He was also a 12-year survivor of pancreatic cancer. Al was predeceased by his beloved wives, Margie and Simone; his parents; his brothers, Father James Roberts and Brother William Roberts. He is survived by his daughters, Maureen Roberts Rowley, Elizabeth Roberts, Eileen Palazzolo and her husband Fred; four grandchildren, Catherine Schurman and her husband Kevin, Justin Mills, Michael Palazzolo, Joseph Palazzolo and three Great-grandchildren, Gunnar, See ROBERTS page 28...

BUSINESS & FINANCE Local Job Fair Held April 5 YORK COUNTRY The York County Regional Job Fair will be held on Wednesday, April 5, from 2-6 p.m. at the Nasson Community Center, 457 Main Street, Springvale. More than 90 businesses and organizations participated last year and the department anticipates that the same number of employers will be recruiting at the fair again this year. Job seekers and career changers will have the opportunity to speak with recruiters working to immediately fill open positions in all sectors of Maine’s economy to include manufacturing, healthcare, retail, military, defense contracting, aviation, hospitality, insurance, construction and services. “Thousands of good-paying jobs with Maine employers are available at Maine JobLink and our many job fairs around the state, said Governor Paul R. LePage. “With a low unemployment rate, employers are looking to hire. The CareerCenters can help you prepare your resume and practice interviewing to be ready to land your next job at the job fair. Contact your closest Maine CareerCenter today. Commissioner of Labor Jeanne Paquette stated, “This is an employees' market, and the increased competition for workers means that wages are rising. There's no better time than now for workers or people thinking about going back to work to see what is out there and talk to employers at a job fair.

Many local companies have reserved exhibit spots and have immediate job openings Commissioner Paquette has advised, "Whether you are considering a new job, a career change, a summer job or getting back into the workforce, this fair will offer hundreds of opportunities in various industries, occupations and skill levels. The job fair runs until 6 p.m. so that people who are currently working as well as teens can participate. Attendees should bring a resume and be prepared to have an "interview-like" conversation with employers to discuss skills, knowledge areas, and abilities. Job seekers should also be dressed for an interview. The fair is sponsored by the Maine Department of Labor, York County CareerCenter, York County Maine Military Community Network, York County Community College, Sanford/Springvale Chamber of Commerce, and Workforce Solutions. For more information, please contact Ben Neveux at the York County CareerCenter at Bernard.A.Neveux@maine.gov or by telephone at 207-324-5460 or 1-800-343-0151. TTY: users call Maine relay 711. track bills and due dates. An established process is especially important for families, couples or roommates who may need to split bills. Define each person’s role and set reminders to help ensure bills get paid on time. Create a plan to pay off your debt. Don’t let fear or procrastination get in the way of a debtfree life. Adjust your budget and make a commitment to paying off credit cards and student loans. You can develop the plan yourself, or contact a nonprofit credit counseling agency for free resources and an action plan. Review your insurance policies. Chat with your insurance providers about the possibility of securing lower rates on auto, life or home insurance. A lower monthly payment frees up more money in the rest of your budget. Shred old financial documents. The IRS recommends keeping tax returns and other important documents for at least seven years after you file the return. Go through your tax files, shred older files and create a system that keeps your paperwork organized so it is easily accessible. Check out Bankrate’s reference sheet to determine how long you should keep various types of financial documents. Stop clutter before it starts. If you thought it was impossible to avoid credit card and loan solicitations, think again. You can opt out of most by calling the national credit bureau’s hotline at 1-888-5OPTOUT (67-8688). Volunteer Orientation at Habitat for Humanity

Power Outage Underscores Difficulty of Wildlife Care CAPE NEDDICK A power outage at a wildlife medical clinic can be very challenging. These generally occur in the wintertime, due to ice storms or high-wind blizzards. In years past, this meant that the overwintering turtle or snake ambassadors would need to go home with staff and volunteers. But the typical and historical “winter patient loads” have included adult raptors and mammals that are able to tolerate 50-degree temperatures temporarily. A changing climate is bring-

ing new challenges to already difficult work. Bats that have woken up out of hibernation in February are relying on the Cape Neddick Wildlife Center until they can be released when the insects are available. An American woodcock that historically began their twilight dance towards the end of March arrived in February instead and was hit by a car in the recent blizzard and is in the Intensive Care Room relying on heat to reduce shock. A decade ago this was unheard of, nesting and orphaned mammals were

Though the center now has a generator (gone are the days of hauling buckets of water and boiling hot water bottles at home), it failed to operate during the recent power outage. Incubators, infant squirrels, turtles, and snake ambassadors were all packed up and sent home with eight licensed staff and volunteers. A generous volunteer drove up with his own generator to offer heat to bats and space heaters in an attempt to keep pipes from freezing. All wild animals and buildings did manage the storm safely. Health & Fitness Agent Orange Effects Explored

NORTH BERWICK Veterans in North Berwick are holding an event to explore the effects of Agent Orange on the health of veterans exposed to the chemicals, their children and their grandchildren. Join the group on Saturday, April 8, at the Hurd Academy, 77 High St., North Berwick, from 1-2:30 p.m. The public is invited. Some 21 million gallons of defoliants and herbicides were sprayed by plane, helicopter and hand over southern Vietnam for more than 10 years during the Vietnam War. Laos and Cambodia were also sprayed to lesser extents. Two-thirds

of the defoliants and herbicides were contaminated with TCDD or dioxin. In addition, the Department of Defense used dioxin contaminated herbicides along the demilitarized zone (DMZ) in Korea and performed tests of those herbicides at numerous locations throughout the U.S., Thailand, Puerto Rico, and New Brunswick, Canada. U.S. veterans who served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam war are presumed by the Veteran's Administration to have been exposed to the toxic herbicides making them eligible for Veterans Administration benefits if they have one of the diseases or conditions associated with

Health & Fitness Survivors Day 2017 Celebrated in York County SOUTH SANFORD Celebrate with other cancer survivors and their families at Cancer Care Center of York County's Survivors Day, April 8, from noon to 2 p.m. Every Survivor has a story, and the Cancer Care Center of York County is inviting you to celebrate your story of survival at the fifth annual Survivors Day. “There is a sense of community knowing that everyone is going through cancer treatment or has finished,” says Executive Director Karen PierceStewart, who is organizing the event with Patient Advocate Meghan Morash. “This is a fun day, and we try to make our Survivors and their families feel special.” Survivors Day is a special time set aside each year for Survivors and their families to visit with each other, share their stories, share their joy, and celebrate how far they’ve come since the first time they walked through the doors at Cancer Care Center of York County.

The event, always wellattended, is one that Survivors and their families look forward to every year and Cancer Care Center of York County rolls out the red carpet to welcome them home for an afternoon of laughter and fellowship. “There will be a pianist playing beautiful music at the event, light refreshments, and stations set up around the Center to sample some of our holistic services,” says Morash. “We’ll have a Reiki specialist and an esthetician, and we’re looking to add a photographer, massage therapist, and nutrition specialist to the roster very soon!” Nikki, a licensed esthetician, will be in attendance giving mini facials. Two very special guests at this year’s Survivors Day will be Sue Walsh and Olivia—affectionately called Livy—Sue’s Pet Partners therapy dog. A cocker spaniel who loves to sit with patients and brighten their day, Livy is a regular at Cancer Care Center of York County, and well-loved for her gentle

and happy spirit. Survivors Day is for caregivers as much as it is for Survivors. “A patient’s family goes through the whole journey with them, from cancer diagnosis to treatment and healing,” says Pierce-Stewart. “So we always acknowledge the caregivers in everything we do and plan.” If you are a cancer Survivor, a caregiver, or someone still undergoing treatment, we invite you for some fun and fellowship. Spending a light-hearted afternoon together as a community is a great way to declare victory over cancer, and we’d love for you to be a part of this special day! The Cancer Care Center is located at 27 Industrial Avenue, Sanford. RSVP by April 1 by calling 207-459-1601. With a strong commitment to prevention and education, CCCYC is on the forefront of the battle against cancer for patients, their families, and the wider community. For more information, visit CCCYC’s web site at cancercareyorkcounty.org or call 207-459-1600.

Local Mainers Named Among Finalists in Outdoor Adventure Film Contest

STATEWIDE The Maine Outdoor Film Festival (MOFF) has announced the finalists of the Winter Broke and Stoked Video Contest, which will premiere April 1 at the Avery Ballroom inside the Sugarloaf Inn. Local mainers among the 10 finalists are: “The Way Life

Should Be, Jacob Christiansen, Kittery Point; “Snow Day, Keaton Stone, South Berwick. “We had to turn away some incredibly good films too, said MOFF director Nick Callanan of the Broke and Stoked video contest. “It was a real hard decision, but it just goes to show, that this Broke

Mainers are indeed getting outdoors and getting creative! MOFF and Sugarloaf have put up a $1,000 first prize for the first place film, which is the one with the most online votes. Voting takes place from April 2-14 at www.brokeandstoked. com. Voters will also be able to view the films at that website address beginning on April 2. The finalist films will premiere on Saturday, April 1 at the Avery Ballroom, located inside the Sugarloaf Inn at 5092 Access Road, Carrabassett Valley. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with films beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for $5 at www.eventbrite.com/e/winter-broke-and-stoked-premieretickets. You CAN Get There From Here! KENNEBUNKS Although the Lanigan Bridge closed this week, there are a couple of options for still getting around from Dock Square to Lower Village. One involves taking the driving detour via Durrell's Bridge Road, and the other involves parking on one side or the other and taking the pedestrian bridge across to the other side. This full closure is expected to last for as much as 45 days,

with the bridge reopening fully by Memorial Day. Before that, there will be some single lane closures, and before that, roundthe-clock demolition will kick off this weekend. Yes, there may be some extra noise, but thanks to some local businesses, there are also some local perks. The first is a free Bridge Survival Kit, which you can pick up at HB Provisions, Alisson's or the Chamber office at 16 Water Street.

The goal of the Drama Club this year is to raise a portion of the money needed to have curtains installed on the Middle School Stage. The High School donated the black curtains from the old stage to YMS because they could not be used in the new and larger audi-

torium. The funds will be used to provide the rigging for these curtains. As in the past, all ticket sales are used for production purposes and to purchase equipment and materials for Middle School performing arts activities. Doors open at 6:30 and the cast hopes people of all ages in the community will come to support them.

Maine Community Colleges to Honor Scholars

YORK COUNTY Fourteen Maine community college students were named to the All-Maine Academic Team for two-year colleges at a ceremony on Wednesday, March 22, at the Senator Inn in Augusta. The event was hosted by the Maine Community College System Board of Trustees. Local students from York County Community College (YCCC) in Wells who received the award, including a

$500 scholarship were Bryanna Smith of Sanford and Spencer Wilkinson of Acton. YCCC’s Bryanna Smith was also honored as the Maine Coca-Cola New Century Scholar in recognition of having achieved the highest All-USA Academic Team application score in the state. Smith will represent Maine at the American Association of Community Colleges’ annual convention in April, where she will receive a

$2,000 scholarship. The All-Maine Academic Team is a program of Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for two-year colleges. Students are nominated and selected for the team by their college based on outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and service. The All-Maine Academic Team is co-sponsored by Northeast Trophy, Phi Theta Kappa, and the MCCS.

This big love bug, like most of our furry clients, is looking for a single person or a family that is able to provide him with an indoor-only life style for his long-term safety and longevity. Most of our family pets that are up for adoption have never been outside pets, so are totally ill-equipped to survive in an outside environment. Blue is already neutered, vaccinations are current and he is so ready to move in with a new loving family. If you would like to consider this sweet and very hand-

Safe Haven Humane Society WELLS Update on Grover (pictured) Grover is doing well since his radioiodine therapy. He’s returning to his foster home and then to our adoption center. Thank you to all who have contributed to his medical fund! And especially the Beachmere Inn in Ogunquit for their Give Back fundraising dinner. Grover will be ready for his forever home soon, so we’re showing him off in the paper again. We love this fellow, and after watching him bloom in a foster home, we won’t rest until he is adopted! Grover would prefer a quiet home without other animals or children. He likes things mellow. He also likes to be the center of attention, as well he should be. A recent study concluded

that cats desire something even more than play and treats. It’s interaction with humans. Playing with you, getting petted, beat out food and treats. Cats have a (false) reputation for being aloof and downright antisocial. Cats don’t deserve to be judged as they’re often portrayed in cartoons and movies, as sneaky, evil, calculating, and undeserving of kindness. Animals are smart. They crave love and attention, so give them more chances to interact with you. Cats are not loners. They are lovers. Just give them more chances to interact with you.

SPORTS FBI Boston Announces Return of Stolen Super Bowl Jerseys to The New England Patriots BOSTON The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Boston announces the return the jerseys worn by New England Patriots MVP Tom Brady during Super Bowl 49 and Super Bowl 51 to the New England Patriots and National Football League. Harold Shaw, Special Agent in Charge, FBI Boston Division offered his statement: “We know how much this means to the Patriots and football fans everywhere, and we are honored to be able to bring these jerseys back to Foxboro. This was truly a cooperative effort, and we want to thank our FBI field offices in Chicago, Phoenix and Houston, the United States Attorney’s Offices in the District of Connecticut, the Southern District of Texas,

and the District of Arizona, and our Mexico City Legal Attaché. We would also like to thank our law enforcement partners in Mexico, in particular, the Mexican Attorney General’s Office for their invaluable assistance in resolving this matter. Assis-

tance was also provided by the security teams from the NFL and the New England Patriots, the Massachusetts State Police and Houston Police Department. As this matter remains ongoing, no further comment will be provided.”

The Rise of Adult Sports Leagues Fitness comes in many forms, and for a growing number of people, sports is one of the most appealing ways to stay in shape. Health and socialization are the driving forces behind the growing popularity of adult recreational sports leagues, particularly among millennials. According to Sports Marketing Surveys USA, a research company that provides data for the Sports and Fitness Industry Association, millennials are twice as likely as their Generation X counterparts to participate in team sports as adults. However, adult leagues attract people of all ages and from both genders. Adults who played sports as children may be particularly drawn to adult sports leagues, which offer a way for them to maintain connections to sports they love. And Eric Willin, COO of EZFacility, a sports business

software provider in Woodbury, NY, offers that adult leagues are the ideal fit for communities and especially appealing to millennials who grew up playing sports. “Members of the millennial generation tend to have grown up with schedules packed with extracurricular sports,” Willin says. “It’s no surprise that this group is enthusiastic about competing in adult recreation leagues, and the supply is developing to meet the demand.” In addition to leagues sponsored by local governments, the YMCA offers a number of adult programs across the country. The YMCA says that their sports leagues provide a perfect opportunity to be active and social and to reconnect or start fresh with a sport. Some of the organization’s most popular adult See LEAGUES page 38...

~ Ask The Computer Lady ~ Dear Computer Lady, Last summer when I upgraded my computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10 my CD/ DVD player stopped working and I sure would like to have it working again. I have a Dell desktop computer that is about 8-years old. Do you think the upgrade is preventing the player from working or is it because my computer is old and just needs repairing? Thank you for any light you might shed on this problem and thank you for all the help you've given me through the years. Linda Dear Linda, I don't think that the upgrade is preventing your CD/ DVD player from working. It is much more likely that the drive has stopped working. Any components inside your computer that have moving parts are more likely to fail than components that don't have moving parts. Since your CD/DVD drive spins the disk, it will eventually wear out. The same goes for your hard drive, which has platters that spin, and read/write heads that move across the surface of the platters. In a desktop computer, it is a fairly simple process to have your drive replaced. At the same time, you might want to make sure your hard drive is in good condition. At the very least, make sure you have a good backup in place. Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady, I have acquired something new on Facebook this week! I have Windows 10 on all my computers etc. and I occasion-

ally get on Facebook - mostly to see what friends are saying - and this past week there is a lot of Oriental type script on my Facebook entries. What is this about and should I be worried? Jean

to make me think it was my friend and they wanted me to send them money. This doesn't seem right, what can I do to stop this imposter? Thanks, Robert

Dear Jean, It sounds like you might have changed the language on your Facebook account. Here is how to change it back to normal: 1. First, log into your Facebook account, then click the small triangle in the top right of your Facebook page, and click to select "Settings" in the drop-down menu. 2. On the left side of the settings window, click on "Language". 3. The top language setting is probably the one you want to change, click on "Edit" on the right and choose your desired language. 4. Click the "Save Changes" button to save the changes. This should put your Facebook page back to normal. Elizabeth

Dear Robert, You can report the fake account to Facebook, and they are really good at shutting the imposter down. Here is how you do that: If you have a Facebook account and want to report someone that's pretending to be you or someone you know: 1. Go to the profile of the impersonating account If you can't find it, try searching for the name used on the profile or asking your friends if they can send you a link to it. 2. Click on the cover photo and select Report 3, Follow the onscreen instructions for impersonation to file a report. I have had to do this for several friends recently, and the imposters have been shut down in less than an hour. Elizabeth

Dear Computer Lady, Recently one of my Facebook friends contacted me and started to chat. It didn't take me long to realize it really wasn't my friend, but someone trying

Dear Computer Lady, I am using Windows 8.1. Most but not all of the icons on my desktop have a small curved up- arrow on the lower left corner. What is the significance

of that arrow? You do good work. Keep it up, Terry Dear Terry, The small, curved up-arrow in the lower left corner of an icon means that it is a shortcut to another file. This is something you need to consider in a couple of situations. First, if you backup the shortcut file, you have not saved the actual file, just a shortcut to it. Second, if you delete the shortcut file, the actual file (either program or data) will still be on your computer. You can see where the actual file is located on your computer by right- clicking on

the file, then click on "Properties" in the context menu that appears. The shortcut tab in the properties dialog box will have a section named, "Target" which will give you the location of the file that the shortcut is pointing to. Files that don't have the shortcut arrow are either an actual file stored on your desktop, or a system file (Like the recycle bin). Elizabeth Interested in learning more? With the approval of the Kennebunkport Historical Society, the committee will obtain bids and begin the work. A successful fundraiser cooking class was held recently in the kitchen at Salud Bistro, part of Toroso. Shannon Bard,

Owner and Executive Chef of Toroso, generously donated her time and talent allowing the entire proceeds to benefit the Town House School. Bard, along with her Chef Chris, presented a great hands-on menu for the group to make, and offered Spanish wines and local beer. Finally, when all was ready, everyone sat down at a beautifully prepared table!

Many community centers, churches and even local businesses sponsor adult sports leagues, which help build a sense of community among residents and often connect players with local businesses and charitable or goodwill organizations. Although some recreational leagues are free to join, many are for-profit businesses. Costs for players can run anywhere from $50 to $90 per person for a season. These fees help cover the costs associated with setting up teams and the fees necessary to compensate referees and rent facilities where games will be played. Adult recreational sports leagues provide great alternatives to the gym for people who want to be physically active.
