STATEWIDE The Maine Law Enforcement Torch Run took place June 6-9. Over 700 members of Maine Law Enforcement participated in the run across the state of Maine, acting as Guardians of the flame carrying the 'Flame of Hope' to raise funds for, and an awareness of Special Olympics Maine. Many towns in Maine are known as having big hearts. Each year, filled with philanthropic
spirit, residents, visitors, businesses and second homeowners donate generously to Maine Special Olympics (SOME). The Law Enforcement Torch Run ran through Ogunquit on June 7, one of the towns on the route, during which members of the Ogunquit Police Association raised money and awareness for this cause. On Tuesday, June 6, South Berwick police officers (pictured) ran with the torch in the rain.
Last year’s Torch Run raised close to $400,000 for Special Olympics Maine and with over a one million dollar annual budget those are much needed funds. For donations or more information on the Maine Law Enforcement Torch Run call Lisa Bird at SOME at 207-8790489 or email lisab@somaine. org. You can also call the Maine Law Enforcement Torch Run Director, Retired Bangor Chief Ron Gastia at 207-735-4023.

of the Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta, a transatlantic race organized by Sail Training International. The regatta commenced in the UK on April 13, raced to Portugal, and is currently on its way to Bermuda, and then to Boston. In Boston, the European, South American and North American fleets will congregate before sailing en masse to Quebec for Canada’s National 150th Celebration. The festivities kick off with the Grand Parade of Sail, a breathtaking maritime spectacle featuring more than fifty stately ships from around the world. Participating ships include Union from Peru, Europa from the Netherlands, Alexander Von Humboldt II from Germany, El Galeon from Spain, Guayas from Ecuador, Blue Clipper
from the U.K., Bluenose II from Canada, and Esmeralda from Chile. The combined length of tall ships participating in Sail Boston 2017 is 6,238 feet. That is the equivalent of eight Prudential Towers, or the length of the Copley Square to Government Center championship parade route covered by the New England Patriots. The Grand Parade of Sail launches a five day nautical celebration featuring educational, cultural, interactive, and re-enactment events and activities as well as daily free public boarding of the ships in the Seaport and Charlestown. A colorful crew and cadets parade, soccer tournament, crew party, and sunset salutes highlight the landside activities. "We have been working vigorously with the City,

Lobster Barn Set Ablaze (on purpose!) YORK The Lobster Barn, located on US Route 1 in York, was intentionally set on fire this past weekend as a “controlled burn to be used as a firefighter's training exercise. The restaurant was not in operation and had been closed. Behind the Barn is the Lobster in the Rough, or “The Rough as it is known, an outdoor bar and picnic table-style restaurant. The Rough still exists and has
been open for business for some time. Plans for the existing
