During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia declaring the United States independent from Great Britain. After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which

The Meaning of Independence Day Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July or July Fourth, is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from Great Britain. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail: “The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress. Both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence later to serve as Presidents of the United States, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. dent, James Monroe, died on July 4, 1831, thus becoming the third President in a row who died on the holiday. Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President, was born on July 4, 1872, and, so far, is the only U.S. President to have been born on Independence Day. In observance in 1777, thirteen gunshots were fired in salute, once at morning and once again as evening fell, on July 4 in Bristol, Rhode Island. Philadelphia celebrated the first anniversary in a manner a modern American would find quite familiar: an official dinner for the Continental Congress, toasts, 13-gun salutes, speeches, prayers, music, parades, troop reviews, and fireworks. Ships were decked with red, white, and blue bunting. In 1778, from his headquarters at Ross Hall, near New Brunswick, New Jersey, General George Washington marked July 4 with a double ration of rum for his soldiers and an artillery salute (feu de joie). From conflict to co-existence, young Arabs and Jews aged 7 to 19 create magical music together while learning about their different cultures. They become involved with one another in their daily lives and form lasting relationships without stereotypical prejudice. Their worldwide concerts bring together families of both nationalities, further strengthening the bond of understanding and friendship. Shows end with a Q and A session with the audience, which strengthens the understanding of the group's efforts to promote co-existence and peace. “Ukuleles for Peace is actively demonstrating that those living in the Middle East can live together in harmony. The performance is sponsored by Southern NH Ukulele Group. Tickets are $16 in advance and $20 at the door and can be purchased at www.thedancehallkittery.org.

~ Arts & Entertainment ~ ‘The Addams Family’ is Morbidly Madcap Musical Comedy By Scott Andrews Staff Columnist ARUNDEL Who’s normal? Who’s askew? And who decides the difference? Those are among the questions posed by “The Addams Family, Arundel Barn Playhouse’s second offering of the 2015 season. Are those questions adequately answered or not? There’s no clear answer. But there is one perfectly clear conclusion: “The Addams Family is a hilarious, www.edwardjones.com

madcap romp through a morbid fictional landscape. “The Addams Family is based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams and published between the 1930s and 1980s. These grotesque cartoon characters have been featured in a popular television series and a film. The musical stage version of “The Addams Family has a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, with score by Andrew Lippa. It debuted on Broadway in 2010 and ran for more than a year, garnering a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical. During 2011 it was extensively revised, with major

plot alterations and the addition of four new songs. The show’s central concept is simple. The Addams Family is a household inhabited by seven characters that range from simply quirky to downright morbid. The household is headed by a foppish gentleman (Brian Finnerty) with an affected Spanish accent who is married to a mysterious dark woman (Emma Roos) decked out in a long slinky black dress with a dĂŠcolletage cut “down to Venezuela.â€? Her signature song is “Death Is Just Around the Corner.â€? Their teenage daughter (Allison Sandler) enjoys inflict-

Plus there’s feisty grandma (Margeret Bush) who is 102 years old and loves poisons and potions, and Uncle Fester (Billy Goldstein) who looks like a medieval monk, with brown cassock and full tonsure. The Addams’ butler (John Manzo) is a tall, lanky zombie who utters incoherent grunts. Plus there are eight Addams ancestors, all chalky white ghosts; some hail from centuries past, while others are more recently deceased. These characters inhabit a fictional space where they define their own norms. Conflict arises when a family of three conventionally normal people, (David Dennison, Brigette E. Estola and Curtis Reynolds) unexpectedly appear in the Addams’ space. The conflict that drives the plot, a cross-cultural romance, is happily resolved in tuneful fashion. Arundel Barn Playhouse’s production is a hoot. There are

18 cast members, and director Taavon Gamble gets excellent performances from all. Several fast-moving scenes require assembling the full cast on Arundel’s small stage at once -- a formidable undertaking that demands perfect coordination. The central questions of “The Addams Family remain intentionally ambiguous and unanswered. What is normal? And who decides who’s normal

and who isn’t? The subjective nature of “normal is neatly summarized by Morticia, the morbid mother of the Addams Family. “‘Normal’ is an illusion, announces Morticia. “What is normal for the spider is catastrophe for the fly. But there’s no question about the experience itself. “The Addams Family is insanely zany and abnormally funny.

Traditional, contemporary and country crafts are featured. You’ll see stained glass, jewelry of all types, pottery, soaps, candles, wood crafts, fiber arts, graphics, photography, handcrafted specialty foods and much more. Many of the crafters and artists have been coming back for years, and they look forward to making new products for their customers. Here’s just a sampling of the variety you’ll find at the July fair: Krista Gagne of Arundel - homemade pickles, jams and relishes; Robin Gardella of Augusta - pen and ink drawings; Susan Randall of Rochester, NH - beach stone key rings; Sharon Wilcox of Parsonsfield - American Doll clothing; Heather Cohen of Derry, NH - hand painted & dyed silk scarves and clothing; Nurit Niskala of Manchester, NH - one-of-a-kind jewelry; Deborah Uva of Gray - stained glass sun catchers; and Kim Von Hedemann of Milford, OH - stoneware pottery (see animal mugs in picture above), decorated with whimsical animal caricatures. Kim enjoys spend summers in her favorite place – Maine. The craft fair also includes music by folk musician Carolyn Currie of Cumberland. Her CDs will be available for sale at the show. ~ Arts & Entertainment ~ ‘Victor/Victoria’ is Tuneful, Gender-Bending Fun By Scott Andrews Staff Columnist OGUNQUIT Is she a man? Should we call him a woman? That kind of perplexing gender-bending question predates the Bruce/ Caitlyn Jenner era by hundreds of years. Cross-dressing and disguised sexual identities have been frequent fodder for playwrights and film scriptwriters over the centuries. An early classic example, from the Renaissance, is William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It. A modern classic is “Some Like It Hot, the 1959 Hollywood hit written and directed by Billy Wilder. Still more recently, the use of cleverly disguised sexual identities is a central device of “Victor/Victoria, the 1995 Broadway hit. The show’s story line revolves around a nightclub chantress, a fictional French star of the 1930s. Her special shtick was disguising herself as a man in real life and performing as a female impersonator in Parisian clubs. She was a sensational star, but stardom indirectly led to exposure. As the second show of its 2015 season, Ogunquit Playhouse has mounted a wonder-

fully lavish production of this modern classical Broadway tuner. The book was written by Blake Edwards, based on his own film screenplay, which in turn was based on several antecedents that date back to the 1930s. Most songs were written by composer Henry Mancini and lyricist Leslie Bricusse, with three additional songs by Frank Wildhorn.

“Victor/Victoria is a show about show biz, and much of the action takes place in and around nightclubs in Paris and Chicago. Disguises abound, and gay themes and jokes are interpolated throughout. Ogunquit’s executive artistic director Brad Kenney and stage director Matt Lenz have assembled an outstanding cast that includes many veterans of Broadway shows and national

touring companies. The four tops roles are filled by Broadway veterans. Lisa Brescia tackles the difficult title role with panache, pretending to be the male lover of George Dvorsky, who plays a Parisian ne’er-do-well, while she actually falls in love with

Darren Ritchie, who plays a Chicago nightclub owner. It is this latter romance that complicates the relationship and ultimately blows the ruse, leading to a denouement where other relationships and identities See VICTOR page 13...

bombshell. Hurder tackles this vapid, timeworn stock character and elevates her interpretation into the stratosphere. Hurder is a native Mainer who has previously appeared with Maine State Ballet, Maine State Music Theatre and a number of school and community productions. She is now making waves on the national theater scene, including five Broadway musicals. This show boasts exceptional production values, especially the set, designed by Robin Wagner, and costumes, created by Willa Kim. Especially notable is the two-level hotel set used in the second act. The most extravagantly opulent costumes open the second act, portraying the court of King Louis XIV. Both were featured on a recent national tour and have been licensed by Ogunquit Playhouse.

“Collateral An Exhibition of Paintings by Diggins YORK York Public Library is featuring the paintings of Dean Diggins, a multi-media artist whose creativity spans both visual and performing arts. The opening reception will be Tuesday, July 14, at 5 p.m. Born in Hampton, Iowa, on June 22, 1931, Diggins began studying tap dancing and piano at age five. By the time he was a teenager, he was teaching nearly 300 students tap dance lessons and operating two dance studios. After serving in the U.S. Army where he performed for Special Services, he continued his formal dance studies at the Hollywood School of American Ballet and in Chicago’s Stone-Camryn School of Ballet, and later moved to New York to study with famed tap classicist, Paul Draper. In 1957, Diggins formed the Mattison Trio, who danced in numerous clubs and theaters in the U.S. and abroad. The Mattison Trio performed as a supporting act for the likes of Jack Benny, Carol Channing, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, and others, appearing on American television on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "Today", as well as on television shows in Buenos Aires, Germany, and Italy. In late 1960’s, Diggins earned a doctorate degree in Psychology and began teaching at

Brooklyn College. Following his retirement from teaching in 1990, he moved to Kittery, Maine, where he continued to perform, broadening his balletic tap choreography to include classical works by Bach, Handel, Haydn See DIGGINS page 38...

IRS Summertime Tax Tip If you’re preparing for summer nuptials, make sure you do some tax planning as well. A few steps taken now can make tax time easier next year. Here are some tips from the IRS to help keep tax issues that may arise from your marriage to a minimum: Change of name. All the names and Social Security numbers on your tax return must match your Social Security Administration records. If you change your name, report it to the SSA. To do that, file Form SS-5, Application for a Social Security Card. The easiest way for you to get the form is to download and print it on SSA.gov. You can also call SSA at 800-772-1213 to order the form, or get it from your local SSA office.

Use the IRS Withholding Calculator tool at IRS.gov to help you complete a new Form W-4. See Publication 505, Tax Withholding and Estimated Tax, for more information. You can get IRS forms and publications on IRS.gov/forms at any time.

stances will allow the Marketplace to adjust your advance credit payments. This adjustment will help you avoid getting a smaller refund or owing money that you did not expect to owe on your federal tax return.

Changes in circumstances. If you receive advance payments of the premium tax credit you should report changes in circumstances, such as your marriage, to your Health Insurance Marketplace. Other changes that you should report include a change in your income or family size. Advance payments of the premium tax credit provide financial assistance to help you pay for the insurance you buy through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Reporting changes in circum-

Change of address. Let the IRS know if you move. To do that, file Form 8822, Change of Address, with the IRS. You should also notify the U.S. Postal Service. You can change your address online at USPS.com, or report the change at your local post office. Change in filing status.

Change tax withholding. When you get married, you should consider a change of income tax withholding. To do that, give your employer a new Form W-4, Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate. The withholding rate for married people is lower than for those who are single. Some married people find that they do not have enough tax withheld at the married rate. For example, this can happen if you and your spouse both work.

If you are married as of Dec. 31, that is your marital status for the entire year for tax purposes. You and your spouse can choose to file your federal tax return jointly or separate-

ly each year. It is a good idea to figure the tax both ways so you can choose the status that results in the least tax. Courtesy of David.D.Stewart@irs.gov.

BUSINESS & FINANCE Working Professionals: How To Take Back Downtime

Many working professionals have hectic schedules. Perhaps due to technology that now allows men and women to stay connected to the office no matter where they might be, a great number of men and women now exceed the traditional full-time employment standard of 40 hours per week. In fact, data from the 2013

and 2014 Gallup Work and Education polls indicates that adults employed full time in the United States work an average of 47 hours per week, almost an entire extra workday. Some working professionals have little recourse with regard to reducing the number of hours they work each week. But those who find themselves unknowingly working extra

hours, whether it’s by checking work emails at home or answering business calls even after leaving the office, can take steps to regain their downtime for themselves. Schedule activities during before or after office hours. Men and women who want to take back their downtime may benefit if they start to schedule activities during those

hours that aren’t meant to be spent at the office. Rather than planning on going to the gym, plans that can easily fall apart if a particularly difficult project lands on your desk, schedule sessions with a physical trainer or sign up for classes with a friend or family member. You will be less likely to work during your downtime if you have already paid for a training session or class or have scheduled a dinner date or another activity with a loved one. Especially busy professionals can plan activities for one or two weeknights per week so they know they are leaving the office on time no less than 20 percent of the time. Encourage team-building activities with coworkers. One way to ensure you get out of the office on time is to promote team-building activities with your coworkers. Propose a company softball team or encourage your bosses to sponsor a company bowling team. Such activities can create stronger bonds between you and your coworkers, and they also ensure all of you get out of the office on time at least once per week. While you won’t necessarily avoid talking about work, you will be out of the office and having fun while you relax rather than sitting at your

desk and burning the midnight oil. Turn off your devices. Professionals who own smartphones or tablets can now check work emails or monitor work projects whether they’re sitting in their offices or lounging on the couch at home with their families. Working men and women looking to work less during their downtime should consider turning off those devices that keep them connected to their offices. This may be more difficult than you think, as a 2013 survey conducted by Opinion Matters on behalf of GFI Software found that 39 percent of participants acknowledged checking work emails outside of standard work hours, while a whopping 81 percent of the more than 500 respondents said they check their work email on weekends. Men and women who want to regain their downtime for themselves can try turning off their devices upon leaving the office, resisting the temptation to check work emails on nights and weekends. The number of women in leadership roles in both politics and business continues to rise. According to the Pew Research Center, the percentage of United States Senators who are female has risen from just 2 percent in 1965 to 20 percent in 2015. A similar spike has taken place in the United States House of Representatives, which is now 19.3 percent women compared to just 2.3 percent in 1965. State legislatures have also witnessed the growing role of women, as state legislatures, which were just 4.5 percent female in 1971, are now 24 percent female. Fortune 500 companies have also increasingly turned to women to fill leadership roles. In 2014, 5.2 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs were women. While that figure is still low, it’s certainly an improvement over 1995, when no Fortune 500 company employed a female as its CEO. Fortune 500 companies are also increasingly relying on women to serve as board members, which were 16.9 percent women in 2013 compared to less than 10 percent in1995. Women also are getting more opportunities to lead on college campuses than they were roughly 30 years ago, when just 9.5 percent of college presidents were women. By 2011, that figure had nearly tripled to 26.4 percent. This article was provided by MetroCreative. The Sentinel does not endorse any products or services suggested by articles from MetroCreative.

Why Surfing is Good For Your Health It’s often said that surfing is more than a sport; it’s a lifestyle, a culture, a way of life. For years advertising agencies and marketers have tried to capitalize (successfully) on the appeal of the surfing lifestyle. Hitting the beach and surfing has long since represented the shirking of duties and responsibilities, and that shirking has represented eternal youth. If you’re among the folks that have surfing on your bucket list and are contemplating giving it a go, check out these added benefits from a surf session. Rejuvenation The ocean is a source of solace, solitude, and tranquility for many and especially so if you’re a surfer. Riding waves has a way of putting all your troubles behind and forcing you to focus on the moment. It sometimes seems that you become hypersensitive during

surf sessions noticing the smallest details and the more you surf the more connected you become to nature and your surroundings. A 2010 study by the California State University looked at how surfing can improve a person's mood and prevent depression and stress. The study determined people described as depressed, angry or stressed become more calm, relaxed and happy after going through a surfing program for a few weeks. The connection surfing has with nature has often been defined by wave riders over the years as feeling the stoke or

thrill and excitement a one of a kind feeling only obtained by surfing a wave. The high stress environment that many people experience in today's busy world can be detrimental to mental health. Physical exercise, especially something as fun as surfing, helps to offset the negative effects of stress. ...TALENT from page 7 Hackmatack’s artistic director. The rest of the Shark team includes actors of Armenia, Sicilian, Syrian, Russian, Anglo and Portuguese descent, but all with complexions that allow them to pass as Puerto Rican. “Actors are always playing roles that are not their own, noted Lisbon. For instance, she said, 30-year-olds may play teenagers and middle-aged people may play senior citizens. “The more versatile an actor – in both appearance and talent - the better off for getting a variety of roles. “West Side Story, the tale of two young lovers caught

~ News ~ between prejudices, involves warring street gangs – the Jets and the Sharks. The script for this retellling of Romeo and Juliet was written by Arthur Laurents, with music and lyrics by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim. The story is set in New York City in the mid-1950s in an ethnic neighborhood on the west side. The members of the Sharks, all from Puerto Rico, are taunted by the Jets, a Caucasian gang. Tony, a former Jet, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the leader of the Sharks. The play opened in 1957 and marked Sondheim's Broadway debut. It ran for 732 performances before going on tour.

“From the first notes to the final breath, “West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time, according to Hackmatack owner Michael Guptill. If Hackmatack’s reach into its first Boston audition failed to result in a stage full of Puerto Rican Sharks, it succeeded in enticing several great actors who have never done summer stock and who may not have even been to Maine before. “I got to see a bison two days ago and I didn’t even know what bison were, said Estrada, who is living with two other new Hackmatack actors – also Sharks – in a family home

down the road. “It’s very different from anything I’ve ever experienced, said Ari Conti, a 21-year-old Sicilian-American from Marblehead who is housed with Estrada. “I am a city girl so it’s very interesting, but I like it. There’s the fresh air and it’s peaceful, she said, adding “except when we are doing a rumble. Hannah Shihdanian, 27 of Waltham, Mass is the third newbie Shark living with the Poiriers. Shihdanian, who is Armenian, has also been drinking in the rural surroundings. “I went for a run this morning down the road and there were horses everywhere! she said with excitement.

For all three of the Sharks, doing summer stock is a new experience. They each have extensive acting experience, but most of it in schools, cities or community theater. One of the best parts of summer stock is that people come from all over to participate for the season. “West Side Story at Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick runs 8 p.m., July 8 to 12, July 15 to 19 and July 22 to 26, with matinees Thursdays at 2:00 p.m., July 9, 16 and 23. Shows are $25 Wednesday and Thursday and $30 weekends, with discounts for seniors and $10 tickets for students. For more information go to hackmatack.org or call 207-6981807.

Health & Fitness ...SURFING from page 25 ance and flexibility to name a few. Going surfing just one time will highlight the need for shoulder strength for paddling but equally important is core and leg strength to pop up and maintaining balance riding the wave. Balance may be one of the most important benefits and is a skill easily transferable into everyday life. While this may not seem important when you’re young, having and creating a good sense of balance provides abilities to protect yourself from falls and injuries. Surfing is also a vigorous cardiovascular workout, helping to improve your overall health condition and protect your heart. During any surf session you will twist and turn your body into a multitude of positions while also getting tossed around in the power of the waves. Another Chance Animal Rescue

NORTH BERWICK Meet Minnie and Mystery, two wonderfully sweet eight-week-old kittens who are among the many equally sweet available little darlings that are looking for their forever loving homes. These two came in from a surrender situation. Both are healthy happy little characters that will do well with children, non-aggressive cats and calm easygoing dogs. Minnie and Mystery will be spayed, vaccinated, wormed, and will have a vet check in the immediate future. If you are in the market for a set of very patriotic furry

Safe Haven Humane Society WELLS Cutie Pie is a darling, friendly kittie who found herself in a pickle. She was left behind by a family member and then the family took her in. But due to a move out of state and already having animal family members, she couldn’t go with them. Luckily, Safe Haven stepped in and she is now in our care. Cutie Pie is about 12 years old, very friendly and lovable, despite all the recent changes in her life. This domestic shorthair has lovely torti markings. She rubs her head all over her foster mom’s hands, begging for attention and pats. She’d be so happy in a home with someone retired, or anyone who has the time to give her lots of love and attention. She loves to snuggle with you in bed. As you know, Safe Haven waives the adoption fee for kitties eight and older. If interested in adopting Cutie Pie, please call Dori at 233-2893.

Choco, another recent rescue, is due for eye surgery this week. His teeth are so badly deteriorated that eating is painful. We’re eagerly looking forward to his surgery because it will finally relieve the discomfort he’s felt for so many years. This big, chocolate-point Siamese with blue eyes has not yet revealed his personality. Due to his longtime pain, he’s subdued, reclusive, and depressed. We know that once he’s recovered and discovers that life is no longer a painful experience, his true personality will emerge. Unfortunately, Choco’s eye surgery will be very, very expensive. Please consider making a donation to Safe Haven specifically to help with his expenses. Just write “Choco” on your check and we’ll make sure it goes toward his medical bills. New volunteer “catroom buddies” are signing up and bringing lots of entertainment and love to the adoptable kitties at our new adoption center in Wells. Why not join them for a couple hours a week of cat socializing and playtime? Call Leonore at 207-985-3227

to become a volunteer. It’s fun! We appreciate all your donations to the Safe Haven Thrift Store next to the Wells IGA on Rt. 1. But if you have more than five boxes, please call ahead! We need to arrange for them to be moved to storage, since space at our store is very limited and we have to keep the aisles open. Also, please remember we can only accept clean, unbroken items in salable condition. If we can’t sell it, we have to pay to have it removed.

~ Ask The Computer Lady ~ Dear Computer Lady, How do I stop all the ads from filling the screen when using the internet? I have added ADBLOCK to my Firefox but it does not stop the ads like PriceLess and many others. I am actually using Windows 10 Preview Version 10122. Also would like to know how to block all the programs sneaking in when I download some programs? Thank you, John Dear John, It sounds like you are infected with some malware, and you are right in guessing that it is probably sneaking in with programs that you downloaded. The only way to stop all the ads from filling your screen is to get rid of the malware. The problem is, how do you get rid of the malware without downloading and installing more malware in the process? Often, a good anti-malware program like Malwarebytes will be able to detect almost all the malware that you are infected with, and get rid of it for you. The problem is that when people search for programs like this, they find lots of options in their search results, and most of the options are really just fake programs loaded with even more malware, even worse, some of the search results are linked to call centers in a foreign country who get you to call them, and then charge hundreds of dollars on your credit card to “Fix your computer, when it really isn’t broken in the first place. You can find the real Malwarebytes at www.malwarebytes.org. Download and install the program, then run a full scan, it will really clean up your computer. In the future, when you download a program, make sure you carefully read every screen

both before your download and during the installation process. When you see a statement with a

check mark in front of it that says See COMPUTER page 36...

Loretta was a big Elvis fan, so going to Graceland in Memphis was quite a highlight. In 2010, she went to New York City with all her daughters, which made that trip extra special for all of them. Her last big trip was in 2013 when she went to Disney World in Florida for her 80th birthday, finally getting to meet Mickey. Even though she was in failing health, there was still one trip that she needed to do. Two weeks ago, she came back to Maine to attend the Wells High School graduations of

A trip to Connecticut was made so she could see her two sisters, Stacia 94 years and Millie 98 years. She was also able to visit her nephew, Sonny Stelmak. All of this left her very tired but very happy. As you can see, Loretta had quite a ‘bucket list’. It was an honor for those who helped her cross things off that list. Loretta was an avid San Antonio Spurs fan. She went to many home games over the years and enjoyed the chance to meet with several of her favorite players. nings of relief, keeping the East team at bay. A pitcher and shortstop for Traip Academy the last two seasons, Schneier is a two-time Western Maine Conference Class C First Team All-Star. He led the Rangers in hits, doubles, runs batted in, stolen bases, batting average and slugging percentage. He also threw a team-high 39 innings on the mound, compiling a 2.51 earned run average.

Wind, hazards and obstructions in landing areas should influence your decision of which club to use. Novice golfers may want to rely on their caddies to make club recommendations, and as they become more confident in their abilities they can start to make their own choices. Anchor your feet. Anchor your foot behind the ball to drive the ball further. Right-handed players will keep the right foot anchored, and lefties will do the opposite. Do not lift your foot prematurely; otherwise, you can lose power and distance. Identify your weaknesses. As with any hobby, identifying those areas that need the

most work can help you become a better golfer. Keep track of each shot you take, and then look at the results to see which areas of your game need the most work. Fix your alignment. Align your shots by assessing the target from behind the ball. Then set the clubface behind the golf ball and align it with the target before you enter your stance. Use your torso for power. The torso is essential to a solid swing. Practice rotating from your core to control your backswing and then maintain the same spine angle and posture on the downswing. Use the wind. Click on “Deactivate Your Account and follow the directions to finish the process. Once you have closed your account, it will be gone, and if you want to use Facebook again in the future, you will have to create your account all over again. Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady, Is it OK to put the computer on “hibernate each night

or is it best to shut it down completely? With all the virus, etc going on what is the best way to go? Thanks for the help, Janelle Dear Janelle, In my opinion, the best thing to do is to shut down the computer when you are finished with it for the day. Others might not agree with me, but let me explain why I believe this is the best way to go. When you turn your computer on, it loads Windows from the hard drive (which is long-term, stable storage) into RAM, (which is short-term, more volatile storage) where it

KENNEBUNK – Ever picture yourself on a sturdy boat, fishing rod in hand, in the quiet of morning, far from all the annoying things in life? But since you don't own a boat, that dream can't come true. Wrong! For a paltry $10 you can purchase a raffle ticket for a chance to win a lovingly refurbished 12-foot Amesbury Rowing Skiff, complete with bronze fittings and ashwood oars with an estimated value of $3,000. The boat trailer is not included. First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in

Kennebunk is conducting the raffle. The winning ticket will be drawn at our 39th Annual Blueberry Fair on Saturday, July 25. The winner need not be present to win. The boat, pictured here, will potentially be on display on Saturday at the Kennebunk Farmers' Market. It will also be on display at the UU Church at 114 Main Street in Kennebunk. Raffle tickets are available at the church office Tuesday through Thursday mornings. For more information, call the First Parish Office at 207-9853700.

...GOLF from page 32 make adjustments for the wind depending on the shot. Use the wind to your advantage when you can, and adjust your swing when hitting into the wind. Become a better chipper. Many players put so much emphasis on their backswings and putt shots that they fail to devote any practice to chips. All shots are important for golfers trying to shed strokes stays until you shut your computer down. When you put your computer into hibernate, the computer copies the contents in the RAM to a spot on your hard drive and goes into a power saving mode. When you wake the computer back up, it copies the contents of that file back into RAM and picks up where it left off. If there were any errors that had occurred with your data, the errors would be copied as well. When you shut your computer down at the end of the day, it saves your files, and any configuration changes you may have made (like a change in wallpaper, etc.) and shuts the computer off. When you turn it back on, it loads a fresh copy of Windows from the hard drive, and any errors that might have occurred the day before are not copied. As far as viruses goes, it is a little bit more secure to shut your computer down instead of putting it into hibernate. How much more secure depends on some of your settings. Elizabeth Hi Computer Lady, I am a senior citizen with very little knowledge of computers and I hope you can tell me what “log me in is. Every time I turn on my computer something

off of their scores. Keep fit. Maintaining or improving your physical strength and overall health can help your golf game. Exercise and eat right, and you will have more endurance on the links. This article was provided by MetroCreative. The Sentinel does not endorse any products or services suggested by articles from MetroCreative. comes up on the screen telling me a “log me in update is available. I have an HP computer with Windows 7. Thank you for your help, Lorie Dear Lorie, LogMeIn is a software program that allows you to access your computer remotely. For example, if I want to be able to access my work computer from home, I could (if my company allows it) install LogMeIn on my work computer, leave it running when I left at the end of the day, and then log into the work computer from home and finish up the paper that I had been working on during the day. I am a little concerned that you have this software installed on your computer, but you have no idea what it is. Someone must have installed it on your computer, hopefully, it was someone that you trust who is trying to help you out with your computer. If you don’t use LogMeIn, and have no idea how it got installed, I would suggest that you go to the Control Panel, click on “Uninstall A Program and remove LogMeIn. You don’t want people to access your computer without your knowledge or permission. Elizabeth
