York Animal Hospital Victim of Cyberattack, Asks for Help YORK On the night of July 5, York Animal Hospital, 88 US Route 1, York, fell victim to a ransomware attack that affected many small businesses worldwide over the holiday weekend. This specific ransomware erased the hospital’s entire server and backup data and left the owners, veterinarians Bill and Barbara Walak (pictured), with nothing except for a few hardcopy paper records and some saved email files. Luckily, no credit card or payment information was compromised. According to various news
articles, cybersecurity experts say the REvil gang, a major Russian-speaking ransomware syndicate, appears to be behind
an attack that happened this past weekend which targeted a software supplier called Kaseya, using its network-management
package as a conduit to spread the ransomware. REvil was the same ransomware provider that the FBI linked to an attack on JBS SA, a major global meat processor, amid the Memorial Day holiday weekend, which suggests the gang aims for holidays since many corporate IT teams aren’t fully staffed at that time. Victims of ransomware attacks are cautioned to never click on any links within any communication from the attackers as they may be weaponized to do more damage to existing systems.
For clients of York Animal Hospital, the Walaks are asking for their help in rebuilding after this malicious event. If you are a current client of York Animal Hospital or have a scheduled appointment, they can not access any of your pets or your information. Please email the clinic at yorkanimal2017@gmail.com with your name, pet’s name, address, phone number, and any previous medical history including recent vaccines for your pet. The clinic will then update or See CYBER page 4...

WELLS In late May, a small group of people gathered in Founders Park in Wells to witness the burial of a time capsule to be unearthed in 2121. Assisting in what was named the Wells 200 Committee Time Capsule Sealing and Burial were three Wells Elementary School fourth grade students who helped plan and gather items for the time traveling cylinder. The ceremony was organized by the Wells 200 Committee, formed in 2019 to plan and coordinate activities to involve Wells in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Maine becoming a state.

The story of how SandyBoy came to star in his own book series is as heartwarming as his friendship with Flow. Flow has always loved animals — horses in particular. But she never owned one until SandyBoy, a handsome palomino who loves beach walks, came into her life several years ago. “I have always wondered

he wanted Wells to be a part of Maine’s Bicentennial celebration. Adamsky later formed the Wells 200 Committee to accomplish that. Considering that Wells was incorporated as a town in 1653, the Committee wanted to add the “Wells story” to the Bicentennial celebration.
