The First Families Museum is a new initiative for the historical society and tells the stories of some of the village’s first families, weaving tales of ship owners, maritime merchants, sea captains and Kennebunkport’s most famous summer residents, former President George H.W. Bush and his family. Rick Litchfield, president of the historical society, said, “We are proud to have the support of the Bush family as we introduce a special exhibition of photographs and personal mementos from the Bush presidencies and their family life at Walker’s Point.” The Bush family recently donated two fishing rods and reels and other memorabilia for display in the new museum. The George Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas, has been supportive with providing photographs from their archives. Photographers Chris and Cyndi Smith of C.A. Smith Photographers and Robert A. Dennis
have also allowed their photographs to be used in the exhibition. In addition, the society is grateful for the support of several businesses and individuals in the community who have helped with both financial support and in-kind gifts to make the new museum a reality. Tim Ames, director of sales at the Nonantum Resort and a historical society board member, is looking forward to the new museum. “For years, our guests have asked where they can go to learn more about the Bush family,” he explained. “With the opening of the First Families museum, our town now offers visitors a place to See MUSEUM page 4...
