Eliot Boy Scout Unleashes Happiness By Carin Lee Contributing Reporter ELIOT – The town of Eliot now has a dog park, “barks & rec, thanks to the hard work of Chad Gregor, who built it as part of his ongoing journey toward becoming an Eagle Scout. Construction work began on June 13 and was completed by June 20. Gregor became a Cub Scout at age 7, the earliest age a boy can join the Scouts. He knew by the time he crossed over to Boy Scouts at age 11 that he wanted to go all the way. “The rank of Eagle Scout presents you with opportunities,

Gregor said, “whether it’s for college or the military. It repre-

sents that you can do hard work to attain high achievement.

Gregor started the public service project needed for Eagle Scout rank by going to Heather Muzeroll-Roy, Director of Community Service in Eliot. Gregor chose the dog park project feeling it would “make the biggest impact on the community. He had a lot of planning to do, including extensive research into other existing dog parks and communicating with the animal control officer in Eliot. Gregor drew up a budget, researching the price of fencing and the other tools and materials needed to build the park. He designed the park to fit the space the Town had given him at Frost Tufts Park: 11,800 square feet.

Gregor eventually presented his design to the Eliot Board of Selectmen and the Scouting Council. The Town approved it and the Council gave a pre-approval pending Gregor’s adding space for wheelchairs. Gregor then moved into the fundraising phase of the project. He set up donation jars at local stores. With the help of the Town Clerk he emailed all dog owners in town. He organized a May 16 fundraising dog walk from the Fogg Public Library down to the dog park area. When walkers and dogs reached their destination, See BARK page 6...

They intersperse their repertoire of Irish melodies with related tunes from Quebec, Scotland, and Appalachia, and some fine New England waltz-

es thrown in for good measure! Since forming in 2009, The Press Gang has played at a number of prominent venues and festivals, including Boston's legendary Club Passim, Portland's One Longfellow Square, the Old Songs Festival in Woodstock, the New World Festival in Vermont, among many others. The band released a critically acclaimed debut album in 2010, and followed it up with a new album in 2014, "The Happy Days of Youth.

You’re Invited to a Party OGUNQUIT – A Pod Picking party, that is! Ogunquit’s 4th Annual Pod Picking Day on Saturday August 15. Join with other volunteers and meet at the Lighthouse on the Marginal Way, 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The Monarch butterfly population is seriously threatened. They lay their eggs on only one plant species – milkweed. Black swallowwort is in the milkweed family, but is not native to this country. When Monarch larvae hatch and begin to feed on Black swallowwort leaves, they die. We can help the Monarchs by stopping the spread of Black swallowwort. The seed pods of Black swallowwort are ripening now. They must be collected before they open and the seed parachutes float off on the wind to spread across more land. Our goal is to stop the spread of nonnative invasive plants threatening to overwhelm the native plants that our birds, insects and

wildlife depend on for their survival. No experience is necessary – just a willingness and enthusiasm to assist the Marginal Way Committee in managing this highly invasive vine. We will explain and show you what to do. If you cannot pull vines, you can help us by monitoring where volunteer groups are working, to spot pods that have been missed. Please bring garden gloves and clippers if you have them. We will provide water, lemonade and snacks. Join the party! Rain date Sunday August 16 only if there is heavy rain on Saturday.

Works dug a trench 30 yards from the refreshment stand at Frost Tufts Park down to the dog park. They laid a water line and installed a faucet so dog owners could fill water dishes. Brentwood Fence installed all the posts needed for the fencing. Gregor actually raised more money than he needed, over $5,000. He spent $3,000 on fencing and other materials and then donated the rest to the Town for ongoing maintenance at the park. Volunteers who worked toward constructing the park included Gregor’s grandfather, uncle and father, as well as scouts from Gregor’s troop #340 and some of their parents. The work was done over two consecutive Saturdays by a total of more than 20 people. “barks & rec is a quiet place, flanked on two sides by woods and two sides by sporting fields. Half of the park is reserved for big dogs, 25 pounds and over; the other for small dogs. The venue had its Grand Opening with a ribbon cutting on June 27. Visitors can now “unleash happiness as featured on the “barks & rec sign.

~ News ~ Johnson Recognized for Service to WOCSD School Committee WELLS – Last year David Johnson was appointed by the Town of Wells to fill a vacancy on the Wells-Ogunquit Community School District School Committee until July 1. To recognize his service as a Committee member for the 2014-2015 school year, Chair Helena Ackerson and Interim Superintendent Jim Daly presented Johnson with a plaque at the June 17 meeting. “We would like to recognize your year on the school board and filling in when we needed you, said Ackerson. “We really appreciate the work that you have done. “He is an asset to the community and the school District, said Interim Superintendent Jim Daly. “We appreciate his support over the years. Daly added that Johnson was a “tremendous asset this past year with School Committee business especially

with the ongoing Wells High School renovation project. Johnson said that he has served the WOCSD School Committee for a total of 14 years. For most of those years he represented Wells but began his time representing Ogunquit where he once resided. Johnson believes that he has the distinction of being the only School Committee member to represent both Ogunquit and Wells at dif-

ferent times since the District was founded in 1980. Johnson said that he “appreciated everybody recognizing him for his service and that he was “honored to serve. In a phone interview he stated emphatically that he has decided not to run for public office but added that he would still be interested in helping the School Committee if needed in a non-elected capacity as an appointed member of a

future sub-committee. During his years with the School Committee Johnson has

served as Chairman, member of the Policy sub-committee and a school representative to the District's sick bank for employees in need of extra sick leave.

New England Military Retiree Activity Day. The event was open to military retirees from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. This event is part of an ongoing effort by the State to provide its military retirees with the latest information about the benefits they have earned as a result of their service. This information includes legal assistance, health care information and Veterans Administration services. Governor Paul R. LePage attended and provided opening remarks for the retirees. He thanked them for their service and recognized their sacrifices. "It remains one of my administration's top priorities to ensure

that the men and women who sacrificed so much for their Country and State receive our gratitude, and the care that they deserve," said Governor LePage. “Everyone's retirement is slightly different with the amount of time they served,

their highest rank held, and a number of other factors that we go over with each individual that comes through during the retiree activity day," said Chief Warrant Officer Jonathan M. Hunt, Personnel Readiness Branch Chief for the Maine Army National Guard. “Re-

tirement is a huge milestone in a person's life and we are taking all the steps we can to help make the transition less confusing for our military retirees, as well as provide them educational tools such as literature and websites, and services such as retiree ID cards and legal assistance."

~ Arts & Entertainment ~ “La Cage Aux Folles is Melodic Musical Farce By Scott Andrews Staff Columnist ARUNDEL When competing cultures collide, comedy results. That’s the classic formula that underpins “La Cage Aux Folles, one of the most popular -- and most unconventional -- Broadway musicals of the 1980s. Although structured as a conventional farce -- complete with subterfuge, mistaken identities and disguises -- “La Cage Aux Folles was quite unconventional for its time due to its highly positive treatment of gay love. “La Cage was wildly successful at the box office, running more than four years, totaling 1,761 performances. It also garnered nine Tony Award

nominations in 1984, winning six, including the three most coveted honors: Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score. Two revivals, in 2004 and 2010, collected an additional five Tonys. A staple of regional theater companies for decades, “La Cage is the fourth show of the season at Arundel Barn Playhouse. Based on a play by Jean Poiret, the Broadway musical version of “La Cage represented the creative collaboration of two gay men. Harvey Fierstein, who was openly gay, wrote the book, while Jerry Herman, a closet gay, penned both music and lyrics. The setting is the French Riviera. A nightclub called “La Cage Aux Folles (which can

be translated as “cage of mad women) is owned by two gay lovers who live in an attached apartment. The action largely shifts between the nightclub stage and living quarters. The nightclub is wholly devoted to drag and transvestite acts. Georges is co-owner and MC. The star performer and Georges’ longtime lover is Albin, a highly strung singer whose nearly bald head contrasts with his flowing wig and flamboyant full-length dress. There is an ensemble of six “cagelles, men dressed to the nines in drag who function as a Greek chorus, serving as dramatic foils and commenting on the action. The cagelles introduce the show’s dual theme in the first line of the first musical number: “We are what we are, and what

Dan Clay, Tess Jonas and Steven Michaels appear in “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick.

BERWICK – The hilarious story of two con men, a beautiful woman and the elite of the French Riviera collide in a sexy and irreverent farce opened last week at Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick. “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, based on a 1988 movie starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine, is being directed by David Kaye, chairman of the Department of Theater and Dance at University of New Hampshire. The Hackmatack show brings back several of the stage’s most beloved actors. Dan Clay, last seen in “Music Man as Harold Hill, returns from Pennsylvania and Steven Michaels, last seen as Inspector Javert in “Les Miserable, has come up from Hawaii to star in “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Michael Stailey of Rochester, who recently won local acclaim as one of the area’s best actors, will take the stage in “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels just days after leaving his role as Doc in “West Side Story. Tanya West, another longtime Hackmatack favorite who heads the Marshwood High

School theater program, is also starring in this show, while Tess Jonas, who plays Christine, has come up from the Boston area to make her Hackmatack debut. The movie, “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, was based on the 1964 comedy “Bedtime Story starring David Niven, Marlon Brando, and Shirley Jones. The 1988 remake was done by director Frank Oz. This sophisticated and suave farce, featuring a jazzy score by David Yazbek, was nominated for 11 Tony Awards. Hackmatack Artistic Director Cyrstal Lisbon said she chose Kaye, who lives in South Berwick, to direct this show because she knew he would be able to get the most out of its humor while adeptly developing its story line. “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick runs 8 p.m. August 12 to 15, with matinees Thursdays at 2 p.m. Aug. 13. Shows are $25 Wednesdays and Thursdays and $30 weekends, with discounts for seniors and $10 tickets for students. For more information: hackmatack.org or call 207-698-1807.

Safe Haven Humane Society WELLS Meet Itty Bitty, our longest term resident. She arrived as a youngster with her momma, Kiki, in 2007 and has resisted all attempts to become fully socialized. She’s one of our most beloved kitties, since she’s been part of our family the longest. Plus, she’s the cutest kitty you ever saw. Itty Bitty wants you to be sure to come, so she can treat you in her aloof manner, and accept bags of Temptations cat treats which she promises to share with the 75 other resident kitties at our center. Consider sponsoring a kitty, just $10/month, which helps pay for food, supplies and vet care. You’ll be part of a kitty’s life journey! We’re now accepting items and services for our silent auction. Please call Joyce: 207229-8314 or bring items to our Thrift Store next to the Wells IGA. We’d love jewelry, gift cards, gift baskets, handbags, antiques, crafts business services, and unique items. Thank you! Our Thrift Store is now closed Mondays for cleaning and organizing. We share the world’s

anger, sorrow and frustration since the murder of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe by an American trophy hunter. As a NoKill organization, Safe Haven will honor Cecil in our memorial garden when it’s planted next year. Safe Haven rescues the “little lions” of our communities, but treasures all of God’s creatures. If you agree, please become part of our No-Kill movement, and help us build a world that respects ALL life. Coming Soon: Safe Haven Humane Society Open House! Mark your calendars for August 22 from 12-4 p.m. Safe Haven Humane Society

will celebrate their Adoption Center Open House! Visitors will tour the new cat rooms and meet adoptable kitty residents. Enjoy light refreshments. Participate in our silent auction and raffles. Prizes have been donated by supporters and local businesses. If you would like to donate an item or service to our silent auction, call Joyce at 207-229-8314.

Health & Fitness Local Women Battle Cancer with a Makeup Brush SANFORD – What is the latest weapon available in the fight against cancer? For women participating in the ‘Look

University of New England Announces Dental School Scholarship in Memory of Dean James B. Hanley SOUTHERN MAINE – The University of New England was deeply saddened by the death of James B. Hanley, D.M.D., dean of the College of Dental Medicine, in late May following a battle with cancer. With much love and respect for Hanley’s career accomplishments and warm friendship, his colleagues in the College of Dental Medicine have named an endowed scholarship fund in his honor. The James B. Hanley Dean’s Scholarship for Emerging Leaders will provide muchneeded scholarship support for dental students in perpetuity at UNE’s dental college. Hanley joined the UNE community in the spring of 2014, bringing a special blend of professional expertise, leadership, wit, wisdom and kindness to a role he described as his dream job. He found particular joy in working with students, noting that young people “keep you on your toes and offer faculty wonderful opportunities to continue their own lifelong learning. Hanley’s dedication to young scholars was reflected in his early support and advocacy for the creation of an endowed dean’s scholarship for dental students not long after his arrival at UNE. He generously provided an early and substantial gift to launch the endowment, and he championed its growth by encouraging faculty and staff to make meaningful contributions of their own. He

was thrilled upon learning that his colleagues wished to name the endowment in honor of his service to UNE and the profession of dental medicine. According to Jon Ryder, D.D.S., executive associate dean in the College of Dental Medicine, the leadership component of the scholarship underscores Hanley’s heartfelt conviction that “dentists should be leaders — not just of their practices but ...DEDUCT from page 17 you paid for tax preparation software. How to Make Exercise More Enjoyable Sedentary lifestyles can be dangerous to human health. Numerous studies have linked sedentary lifestyles to various diseases, including type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke. But in spite of those connections, sedentary lifestyles are on the rise. According to the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, both

men and women are engaging in physical activity a lot less frequently than in years past. The survey, which examined data between 1988 and 2010, found that women who reported not engaging in physical activity rose from 19 percent to 52 percent, while figures for men rose from 11 percent to 43 percent. Many men and women find physical activity unenjoyable, which may make it difficult for them to include exercise in their daily routines. The

following are some approaches men and women living sedentary lifestyles can take to make physical activity more enjoyable. • Find activities you like. Physical activity is not limited to working out in a gym. Many adults find gyms great and motivational places to get in shape, while others are bored by strength-training or intimidated by gyms. Finding a physical activity you enjoy increases the chances that you will make

Welcome to Dr. Eva Lizer Dr. Lizer received her MD and MPH from Tulane University. exercise a part of your daily routine. Yoga, walking and cycling are just a few of the many physical activities that can help you live a less sedentary life. • Get a workout buddy. Another way to make exercise more enjoyable is to enlist a friend to workout with you. Friends can supply motivation on those days when you don’t feel like working out while also making workouts more enjoyable by sharing a few laughs as you lift weights, walk around the neighborhood or engage in whatever physical activity you do together. • Set specific goals. Exercise also becomes more enjoyable when you establish specific goals that give you something tangible to work toward. You are more likely to enjoy what you’re doing if you reach your goals along the way than if you don’t set any goals and simply go through the motions. You also can reward yourself for reaching certain goals, which will undoubtedly make your efforts more enjoyable. • Involve other interests in your exercise routine. If exercise truly bores you, find ways to incorporate your other interests into your workout routine.

Rather than spending 30 to 60 minutes simply running on a treadmill, take your tablet along with you and stream your favorite television shows. If possible, catch up on reading while you ride the exercise bike. Combining your workout routine with other passions can make your exercise routines more enjoyable, making you more likely to commit to them on a regular basis. • Sign up for classes. Gyms are more than just weight rooms and cardio machines. Many gyms now offer classes like Zumba, kickboxing and yoga, which can make exercise more communal and fun. If the weight room isn’t your thing, find a gym that offers classes you’re likely to embrace. Exercise need not be dull, and men and women looking to be less sedentary can look for ways to make working out more fun in an effort to reach their fitness goals. Health & Fitness Manage High Blood Pressure to Add Five Years to Your Life Expectancy What would you do with five extra summers? Would you learn how to sail? Or hike the Appalachian Trail? Take a trip to France? Golf in Ireland? Maybe you’d relax on a cruise to Alaska or the Caribbean. Maybe all of them! At age 50, total life expectancy is about five years longer for people with normal blood pressure than for people with hypertension, or high blood pressure. The American Heart Association encourages everyone to know their blood pressure levels and reduce their numbers and risk, to help live healthier and stronger for an extra five summers, or more. High blood pressure, or hypertension, is a disease and can have deadly health consequences if not treated. About 80 million U.S. adults have been diagnosed with high blood pressure. It's sometimes called "the silent killer" because HBP has no symptoms, so you may not be aware that it's damaging your arteries, heart and other organs. The only way to know is to get it checked, which takes just a few minutes at your doctor’s office, at a blood pressure machine located at many local pharmacies, or by using a home monitoring device. By knowing your numbers, gauging and managing your risk for high blood pressure, you can help get those extra summers. The American

Heart Association’s High Blood Pressure Health Risk Calculator helps gauge your risk of having a heart attack, stroke, and developing heart failure and kidney disease. You'll also learn how a few lifestyle changes can lower your blood pressure and your health risks, then print your risk report to discuss with your healthcare professional. It’s available online at www.heart. org. Science has identified several factors that can increase your risk of developing high blood pressure (HBP) and thus your risk for heart attack, heart disease and stroke. Risks among certain groups is higher, including African-Americans, women, who, starting at age 65, are more likely to have HBP than men. Note that high blood pressure can happen at any age, in fact, children can develop high blood pressure, too. Risk factors for developing high blood pressure, or hypertension, include family history, advanced age, gender-related risk patterns, sedentary lifestyle, poor diet/high-sodium diet, being overweight or obese, and drinking too much alcohol. High blood pressure is just one condition that increases your risk of heart disease and stroke. Learn about other heart disease and stroke risk factors at www. heart.org/risk. Submitted by the American Heart Association/ American Stroke Association.

Potential Side Effects of Chemotherapy Chemotherapy is often part of cancer patients’ treatment plans. The use of medicine or drugs to treat cancer, chemotherapy can work throughout the body to kill cancer cells that have spread to parts of the body far away from the original tumor.

Chemotherapy drugs are often used in combination to kill cancer cells. While it’s possible that doctors will use only a single chemo drug to treat cancer, using multiple drugs can reduce the risk that the cancer will become resistant to a specific drug. In addition, chemo-

therapy is often used along with surgery or radiation therapy, as the American Cancer Society notes that chemotherapy can be used to shrink a tumor prior to surgery or radiation therapy or used after such treatments to kill any cancer cells that might remain. Because they can be so potent, chemotherapy drugs can produce side effects, the severity of which varies from person to person. Doctors can help cancer patients prepare for potential side effects, which can disappear quickly after treatment or last longer as healthy cells take time to recover. Some side effects of chemotherapy treatments, such as long-term damage to the heart, lungs, kidneys or reproductive organs, can last a lifetime, and men and women will need to work with their physicians to manage these side effects even after

treatments have ended. Long-term side effects do not affect everyone who undergoes chemotherapy treatments, but the following are some of the more common side effects that men and women undergoing chemotherapy may experience during and after their treatments. Fatigue: Some people experiencing chemotherapy-related fatigue will be only mildly tired, while others may feel exhausted. The ACS notes that such fatigue tends to be worst at the end of a treatment cycle but typically goes away once treatment ends. Rest, including rest during the day, can help combat fatigue from chemotherapy. It’s also good to eat a well-balanced diet, drink plenty of liquids and limit your activities if fatigue is extreme. Hair loss: Certain chemotherapy drugs will contribute to hair loss, which can range from mild thinning of the hair to more complete hair loss. Hair

lost during chemotherapy treatment typically grows back once treatments are over, but the hair that grows back may be a different color or texture. Hair loss typically occurs after a handful of treatments, and hair may fall out slowly or in clumps. Nausea and vomiting: The frequency and severity of chemotherapy patients’ bouts of nausea and vomiting depends on the drugs they are taking to treat their cancer. Nausea and vomiting may begin during treatment and last a few hours, but severe nausea and vomiting can last several days. Patients experiencing difficulty keeping liquids down should notify their physicians, as should those experiencing nausea or vomiting for more than a day. The ACS notes that antiemetics are drugs that can help relieve chemotherapy-related nausea and vomiting, and patients may need to try various antiemetics before finding one that’s effective for them. Chemotherapy is an effective tool in the fight against cancer, and men and women about to begin treatments should expect some side effects as those treatments progress. ...CAGE from page 15 half presents the dramatic dichotomy of appearance versus reality. A “normal, culturally conservative family enters the angular orbit of Georges and Albin, provoking a crisis that affects their relationship. This collision of cultures and wildly disparate worldviews provides the enormous theatrical horsepower that drives the comic action. Director and choreographer Joseph Cullinane gets wonderful performances from the two principals. David Dennison plays Georges with a calm and collected demeanor, but he’s frequently exasperated with the volcanic, over-wrought temperament of Albin, played by Billy Goldstein. The latter has some of the best moments in the show, especially the emotional outburst concluding the first act, where Albin restates the themes of identity and acceptance with a brilliant flash of dramatic lightning. But the biggest attraction of the show is Herman’s lushly melodic score, which ranges from tender ballads to glorious and glamorous ensemble numbers.

Rudolf A. DeBenedictis, 92 WELLS – Rudolf A. DeBenedictis, “Rudy. of Wells, Maine passed away peacefully the morning of July 31, 2015 only one day after his 92 birthday.

SERVING OGUNQUIT, WELLS, "/% $"1& /&%%*$, "3&"

Sunday, August 9, 2015 8 a.m. Eucharist & Homily 10 a.m. Eucharist, Sermon & Music Preacher and Celebrant:

The Rt. Rev. Gary Lillibridge Bishop, Diocese of SW Texas

Rudy was originally from Newton, MA. He attended Columbia University where he completed a Naval Officer training program. Rudy served in the United States Naval Service from 1943 to 1947 where he was a line officer aboard the U.S. Mine-Sweeper. He later attended Rensellaer Polytechnic Institute where he received his Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, and then he graduated from Northeastern University where he received his Graduate Studies in Chemical Engineering. He eventually ended up in Westwood, Ma where he raised his family and was the beloved husband of the late June Ilene (Wilson)DeBenedictis. Lastly, he settled in Wells, ME with his wife Jayne (Higgins) DeBenedictis. Rudy leaves behind many loved ones. He was the beloved husband of Jayne (Higgins) DeBenedictis, and the late June Ilene (Wilson) DeBenedictis; loving father of Robert DeBenedictis and wife Genie DeBenedictis of Franklin; Mark DeBenedictis of Michigan; Janet DeBenedictis of Franklin; stepfather of Paul R. Higgins. ‘Noo-Noo’ is survived by 5 grandchildren; Jamie Lee and Danielle DeBenedictis of

MA; Allison (DeBenedictis) Glover of NC; Alisha (DeBenedictis) Koenig of WA; and Alec DeBenedictis of FL. Rudy was a truly heartfelt man, who raised a beautiful family that quickly grew and expanded. Five grandchildren was the perfect number. He enjoyed living in Maine by the water, and vacationing in Florida during both the summer and winter months. Saying ‘NooNoo’ was a great cook was an understatement; he could have made it in the big leagues and he blew us all away every time he was in the kitchen. He spent every single holiday with his family, Christmas morning wasn’t complete without him being there playing Santa. Rudy was an avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching the games. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Rudy’s life at the Charles F. Oteri and Son Funeral Home in Franklin, Massachusetts on Friday August 7 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be an intimate burial at the Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree following. We know you will be watching over us ‘Noo-Noo’ as we continue to grow.

WELLS – Iris Marion Perkins, 80, of Wells, died Friday afternoon, July 31, 2015 at The Pavilion in Sanford surrounded by loving family. She was born in Medford, MA on October 3, 1934, the daughter of Edgar Nelson Champion and Marion Ray (Millman) Champion. She

grew up in Medford, graduating from Medford High School. She then continued on to secretarial school, earning her certificate. On March 27, 1954, she married Frederick A Perkins III, a union lasting 37 years until his death in 1991. Iris worked in many different jobs over the years. She was a production worker at Corning for several years, and a retail clerk at the former Ames store in Wells. She loved riding around the beach, watching the ocean waves, and enjoying the scenery and especially enjoyed people watching. She was an animal lover and would take in stray cats that appeared in her front yard. She loved feeding the birds, squirrels, and whatever else came to her bird feeders. She also loved traveling with her children around the United States. Iris was an avid reader, but will be best remembered as a loving and selfless mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Iris was predeceased by her husband Frederick, her parents, and her daughter Kathleen Grace. She is survived by her loving children, son Frederick

and wife Karin of Bremerton, WA; son Michael and wife Sheila of Springvale, and Orlando, FL; daughter Deborah Nadeau and husband Donald of Rochester, NH; daughter Donna Cady and husband Michael of Kennebunk; daughter Dorothy Elizabeth of Wells; son Mark of Ogunquit; son John and wife Lynne of Sarasota, FL; her brother, William Champion and wife Elaine of Sandown, NH; grandchildren Frederick,Scott, Matthew, Colby, Caitlin, and Spencer Perkins, Nicholas and Dustin Cady, Douglas Gaines and wife Morgan, Garrett Perkins, Lydia and husband Mike Lehoux, and Mitchell Perkins; Great grandchildren Greyson, Dyllan, Daphne Gaines, and Elouise Lehoux. There are no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 5, at 1 p.m. at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells. Should friends choose, memorial donations in her memory are encouraged to: The Animal Welfare Society, PO Box 43, West Kennebunk,

has Two Faces, and in Nicolas Cage’s film “Sonny with James Franco. Vaccaro has had three television series of her own: “Sara, for which she received an Emmy Award nomination, “Paper Dolls and “Dear Detective. She also received an Emmy Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Special for “The Shape of Things. In addition she has starred in some of televi-

sion most prestigious shows. “Nice Work If You Can Get It is the brand-new musical written by Tony Award-winner Joe DiPietro based on material by Guy Bolton and P. G. Wodehouse and was nominated in 2012 for 10 Tony Awards, winning two. This high-stepping Broadway musical stars Emmy Award and Golden Globe-winning actress Sally Struthers as prohibitionist Duchess Esto-

nia Dulworth, along with Joey Sorge as Jimmy Winter and Amanda Lea LaVergne as Billie Bendix and with James Beaman as Cookie McGee. The Ogunquit Playhouse production is directed by Larry Raben, with Peggy Hickey as Choreographer and Musical Director is Charlie Reuter. ~ Ask The Computer Lady ~

Dear Computer Lady, I talked to a geek squad guy and he saw my Advanced System Care on the computer and said it was malware. Is that true? I have been using it for years with no problems. Thanks, Loretta Dear Loretta, No, Advanced System Care is not malware. It is also not an antivirus or antimalware program, so it will not replace those programs on your computer. You will still NEED antivirus and antimalware software. Advanced System Care is a system optimization program. It claims to make your computer run faster and better by automatically running simple cleaning tasks that you can easily do yourself. Lets take a look at the program. First, it says that it will make your PC up to 300 percent faster. It claims

to do this by boosting startup speed, optimizing the registry and removing unwanted files and applications. Those are all pretty vague things, how does the program know what files and applications you want and don't want? You can easily remove unwanted applications by uninstalling them in the Control Panel. It claims to boost your internet speed by removing cookies and junk files. But, you can do that yourself by going to the Internet options. The biggest problem I have with software that claims to speed up your computer is that by running constantly on your computer, they actually are slowing it down. Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady, Can you please tell me how to take a screen shot on Face Book? Thank you so much,

The Computer Lady Can Help You Keep Your Computer Secure In 2015!

Joanne Dear Joanne, I am going to have to make a few guesses here as to what you are actually trying to do. Guess number 1 is that you are using a Windows computer to view Facebook. Guess number 2 is that you want to take a screen shot of something on your computer and then upload it to Facebook. Guess number 3 is that maybe you want to take a screenshot of something on Facebook and save it on your computer. Lets start with how to take a screenshot on your Windows computer. Simply press the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard. That's it. The problem is that your screenshot is stored in the Windows Clipboard and you can't see it. What you need to do is paste it from the clipboard into a program. Every Windows computer has an image program called, Paint. It is located in your

start menu under the "Accessories" folder. A quick and easy way to open the "Paint" program is to tap the windows logo key on your keyboard and then type the word, "Paint". Click on the Paint program, and you will be ready for the next step. Once you have your screenshot on the clipboard, and the Paint program open, all you have to do is click on "Edit" and "Paste" to paste your screenshot into Paint. Now, save your image and you will be able to upload it to facebook just like any other image on your computer. This will work equally as well if you are trying to take a screenshot of something on Facebook and save it on your computer. Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady, I have been reading you for many, many years. Thank you so much for the wisdom you have shared. I have a question concerning Malwarebytes Premi-

um, I also have AVG 2015. I just wanted to make sure that these are compatible. Can you answer that question? I just wanted to be sure that I am optimally covered. Thanks for any information you can give me. Blessings, Kay Dear Kay, Yes, Malwarebytes and AVG are compatible. While you should never run two antivirus programs at the same time, It is a great idea to have one antivirus program and one antimalware program. This will protect you from both viruses and malware. Elizabeth Windows Tip: The fastest way to find anything in Windows 8 is to use the search feature in the start screen. The fastest way to get to the start screen is to tap the windows logo key on your keyboard. Let's say that you want to type a letter in Microsoft Word. The fastest way to open Word, is to tap the windows logo key on your keyboard, and when the start screen appears, type "Word" on the keyboard. Windows 8 will search for what you have typed, and display the results in a list. You can either click on the item in the list that you were looking for, or if that item is already highlighted, tap the "Enter" key. If you wanted to change the wallpaper on your

SPORTS How to Help Kids Find Extracurricular Activities

...COMPUTER from page 36 desktop, tap the Windows Logo key, type, "Wallpaper" and then click on "Change Desktop Background" in the list that appears. Not only does this work for programs installed on your computer, but it also works for data. Lets say you want to find someone in your contacts. Tap the windows logo key, and then type the person's name (or even a phone number). Wait a second for the search results to load, and you will see a list of every document that contains that name. Sports may be the first thing that comes to mind when many parents think of extracurricular activities for their children, but not all kids are cut out for or interested in competitive athletics. The following are a handful of things parents should consider. Interests: Discuss their interests with them. Youngsters with a love of animals might enjoy volunteering at a local animal shelter or hospital, while those who love to write may find writing for the school newspaper is a great way to apply that passion in a practical setting. Even kids with a passion for video games might be interested in learning about computer graphics and what it takes to design games. When trying to find extracurricular activities for your children, resist the urge to write

off any of their interests. Instead, use those interests as jumping off points to further engage their passions. Availability: Keep in mind kids’ existing workloads when helping them find the right afterschool activities. Many organizations are especially flexible with teenage volunteers or employees, but parents still must keep a watchful eye to ensure kids do not overextend themselves. Kids who overcommit to extracurricular activities may end up feeling burnt out, which can have a negative impact on their schoolwork. Encourage kids to find activities they care about, but emphasize that these activities should not become bigger priorities than schoolwork. Let kids know that they can get more involved during summer

York Women’s Golf League

vacation, but make sure kids don’t devote too much of their time to afterschool activities during the school year. A couple of hours per week and even some additional time on the weekends should not distract kids from their responsibilities at school, and that’s still ample time for kids to explore their interests. Internships: Kids who find themselves interested in particular subjects at school may be eligible for internships with local companies. Such opportunities may even encourage kids to pursue a particular course of study once they enter college. This article was provided by MetroCreative. YORK The women's golf league standings as of 7/27/15 at the York Golf and Tennis Club are as follows: Robin Zuckerman's Team 3 is once again in first place with 160 1/2 points while Peggy Todd's Team 2 has fallen back into position 2 with 156 1/2 points. In 3rd and 4th place, separated by only 1/2 point are Team 1, captained by Lauren Delong, with 150 points and Team 5, captained by Sandy Petrovich, with 149 1/2 points. Fifth place is a tie between teams 4 and 6 with 148 points each. The Captains are Liz Nolan and Linda Jellison respectively.
