York Fire Department Celebrates 100 Years

This second-hand Knox steam-powered fire engine is believed to have been the department’s first firefighting apparatus. (York Fire Dept. photo)

By Alyssa McArdle Contributing Reporter In January 1916, a massive fire broke out at the Marshall House in York, a popular resort that occupied the space where the Stage Neck Colony condos are now. At the time, the town only had the York Beach Fire Department, and by the time the responders made it to York Harbor, the property was beyond saving. The Marshall House burned to the ground. In response to the Marshall House disaster, the town established the York Village and Corner Ever-ready Volunteer

Fire Company. The department was and still is predominately staffed with volunteers. This summer, the York Fire Department celebrates its centennial in fine fashion. “In lieu of our normal yearly field day, we are hosting an Open House on August 20, said Fire Chief Chris Balentine. The event is open to everyone in the community and will take place at the York Firehouse, adjacent to York Hospital. The open house will offer games, prizes, firefighter meet and greets and historical displays. The fire department will also perform a

But the August 20 Open House is only a precursor to an even larger series of events next month: the York Fire Department has been chosen to host the 53rd Annual Maine State Federation of Firefighters Convention on September 9, 10 and 11. “It’s a huge honor to host the convention, Chief Balentine said. “Each year departments put bids in to be the host. Historical Society Presents Environmental Talk

BERWICK The Berwick Historical Society will present a program on Wednesday, August 17 featuring noted environmentalist and science teacher, Dr. Susan Pike. This program will be a departure from the usual evening events and will be held outdoors during the day time. Dr. Pike is the author of the syndicated

column, “Nature News, a National Geographic Grosvenor’s Teaching Fellow and currently teaches science at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover, NH. She has taught environmental science and biology at the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve as well as the University of New England and York County Community Col-

lege. Her passion is learning about various ecosystems and sharing what she learns. Most of her free time is spent exploring her New England backyard. She holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Oregon having studied developmental neurobiology. Dr. Pike will be speaking on four important trees that occur in the Berwick biome, namely white pine, Canadian hemlock, red and white oaks, and American hornbeam. Although part of her talk will focus on the importance of these trees to the history of our town and region and their continued significance today, she will also

enlighten us on tree and shrub identification and a more general discussion of other plants and their ecosystems. Please wear comfortable walking shoes. The trail is nearly level and not difficult. The presentation will take place 2-4 p.m. at the Keay Brook Nature Trail on the GWRLT Preserve on Hubbard Road. Berwick Historical Society programs are free and open to the public. Donations are gratefully accepted. For this event it is suggested that children under the age of 16 be accompanied by an adult. In the event of rain the program will be held at the Berwick Public Library from 2-4 p.m. For more information, call 207-698-1155.

~ News ~ Yoga and Mimosas to Benefit Seacoast Soul Models KITTERY Maine’s newest non-profit, Seacoast Soul Models, offers girls the opportunity to explore their authentic voice in a safe and supportive setting while being introduced to tools that will increase their self-confidence and resiliency. Through activitybased programming, Seacoast Soul Models guides and supports middle school girls as they gain valuable life skills in the areas of creative expression, leadership development, stress-reduction techniques, and an ethic of service. Seacoast Soul Models invites middle school aged girls in the Southern Maine and Seacoast area to attend their ten part series this fall. Their program curriculum follows the central themes of self-care incorporating mind, body, spirit, and heart and soul. The session, in partnership with the Kittery Community Center, costs $100 per attendee but scholarships are available upon request as the organization’s goal is to include all girls who want to participate regardless of ability to pay. The organization’s leaders, board members, and committee members are all volunteer based. Giving of their time, money, heart and soul, they are the true core of the organization.

Led by instructor Jenna Paige Sarno of Village Yoga of the Kennebunks, the morning sequence will be accompanied by Craig Werth who will be playing live music. ~ Arts & Entertainment ~ Iris Williams Debuts at Vinegar Hill Music Theater ARUNDEL From the bucolic valleys of Wales to the rugged coastline of Maine, comes Iris Williams, a critically acclaimed and popular performer on the New York cabaret scene who has been invited to appear during the inaugural season of The Vinegar Hill Music Theatre in Arundel, Maine on August 17 at 8 p.m. Williams says of the sympathetically converted historic barn, “It’s anything but [barnlike]. It’s an intimate setting that suits me perfectly. It’ll let me keep the audience where I like them – up close – in a hug – or ‘cwtch’ as we say in Welsh. http://vinegarhillmusic.com/ ; Themed “I Wish You Love, her relaxing summer set will include standards from the American Songbook, Broadway classics, and familiar film tunes

by Jerome Kern, Steven Sondheim, Henry Mancini and others. Songs made iconic by Nat King Cole and Edith Piaf, whose emotional connection to their music has informed Iris’ own approach, will be featured. A favorite of Presidents and Royalty, Williams was born

in Pontypridd, Wales. Her exceptional talent and rich, warm contralto have impelled her far beyond the borders of her beloved Wales. A scholarship student at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, she eventually decided to transition away from opera. Her classical training helped Iris to thrive when her honest and touching rendition of “He Was Beautiful first went gold, then platinum and propelled the already-accomplished singing actress along a different path, launching her international career. YORK Three artists present their perspective on three very distinctive locals in the mid-summer exhibitions now on view at Old York’s George Marshall Store Gallery, 140 Lindsay Road, York. Nina Jerome, from Bangor is well known for her views of the Maine coast and lakes. In this showing , however, called “Land

Marks – On the Move, she is intrigued by more urban landscapes including aerial views of Boston and New York. “Diana’s Baths is the focus of Lincoln Perry’s exhibition. The artist is intrigued by the beautiful cascading waterfalls in Bartlett, New Hampshire and by the myths that surround the Goddess Diana’s for which the area is named.

Photographer Alexandra de Steiguer exhibits twelve images in “Starkness and Light: The Isles of Shoals in Winter representing the isolated islands where she has been the winter caretaker for nearly two decades. The exhibitions continue through August 21. The artist’s process is a common theme among the three exhibitors. Lincoln Perry ‘s show consists of four very large canvases surrounded by dozens of small oil pastel and gouache studies. The artist visited Diana’s Baths numerous times to paint and sketch on location. In these studies and others done in his York studio, he arranges and re-arranges the figures. The artist is inspired by the beauty of the waterfalls and the topicality of the myth. As the story goes, Diana, goddess of the hunt, is spied upon by Actaeon. She is not at all pleased with this Peak-

OGUNQUIT Music in the Meetinghouse ing Tom and with her godly powers, she turns Actaeon into a stag and is promptly devoured by his own dogs. The jewel-like colors, dramatic lighting, and animated figures that tell the narrative of the myth, pull the viewer into the scene. “It is fascinating to see the work that goes into a finished large painting, says curator Mary Harding. “It is what I get to experience when I visit an artist’s studio. I wanted to share that experience by showing dozens of the studies, which frankly, are as complete and beautiful as the larger paintings. The gallery is located at 140 Lindsay Road, York. is a new concert series by the Historical Society of Wells & Ogunquit (HSWO) of musicians inspired by history. On Friday, August 19 at 7 p.m., in the Meetinghouse at HSWO a concert of swing and jazz music will be performed by Lex and Joe with special guest Jon Ross to celebrate an era of Artists Balls and the gang that came to hear “The Ice House Five, play in a fisherman’s ice house in Ogunquit’s Perkins Cove in the 1950’s. Mike Horn, who played clarinet in the original group, has shared the set list of songs to make give the evening an authentic sound! Music in the Meetinghouse, a series of history based performances by musicians inspired by the musical history of our local towns, is made possible by the generosity of our sponsor Barnacle Billy’s. Lex and Joe have lived, and played music in Ogunquit and up and down the East Coast for over thirty years. A shared interest in the fabled swing era of the 1930's and 40's has resulted in this enduring musical collaboration. Lex Romane plays guitar, electric bass, and sings most of the songs. Joe Riillo plays baritone, alto, soprano, and tenor saxophones, clarinet and flute, and sings backup vocals. They will be joined by friend and accomplished musician, Jon Ross, on acoustic bass and vocals. An 1862 Meetinghouse is the headquarters of the Historical Society of Wells & Ogunquit. The Meetinghouse Museum collection of artifacts from local families, fishermen, farms and businesses are on exhibit to tell the story of Wells and Ogunquit which began as one town in 1640. The Meetinghouse is also the home of the Esselyn Perkins Library, one of the finest genealogical collections in southern Maine. The library contains family histories and town histories of Maine. Meetinghouse at the Historical Society of Wells and Ogunquit is located at 938 Post Road (Route One), Wells. For more info, email info@wohistory.org or call 207 646-4775.

BUSINESS & FINANCE New Resource to Help Navigate the World of Higher Education Borrowing STATEWIDE Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) announced recently that it has developed a new online tool called TheLoanforME.com, designed to be a useful local student loan resource for Maine borrowers.* In an unprecedented partnership, FAME and the Maine Private Education Loan Network – a group of eight lenders from around the State – have combined their expertise and resources to help Maine residents secure education loans. Together, they have created TheLoanforME.com. The goal of the online tool is to help families become more informed

when it comes to student loan borrowing. Primary audiences for the new tool include families who need to close the gap between what they have saved for higher education and any financial aid, grants, or scholarships awarded, and those seeking to refinance their student loan debt. Visitors to the Web site will find a wide range of helpful information and tools, including: things to consider (and steps to take) before borrowing; a student loan calculator; informational videos; loan comparisons and things to look for from a lender; ideas on how to borrow less; and frequently asked questions.

Top Reasons Sales Managers Hire The Wrong People When numerous sales reps aren’t meeting their target numbers, a company’s puzzled leaders may go scrambling to figure out the cause. But it could be the genesis of the problem dates back to when those sales people showed up for a job interview. “One major reason sales goals aren’t met is pretty simple,” says Dave Stein, coauthor with Steve Andersen of 'Beyond the Sales Process: 12 Proven Strategies for a Customer-Driven World,' “the sales manager hired the wrong

The average student debt in Maine is $31,000. About 68 percent of Maine students rely on student loans to pay for college, according to a recent Maine State Chamber of Commerce and Educate Maine policy paper entitled, “On Strategies to Make College More Affordable.” For most families, there is a gap between what has been saved and what is required for college expenses. Once all of the financial aid and federal loans have been exhausted, if there is still a gap, credit-based private student loans may be the best solution for bor-

rowers attending and ultimately graduating from college. FAME employs a team of financial aid experts who have worked with families for years and who understand the range of information families are seeking when they start the journey of saving and/or paying for college, and then later, when they need assistance repaying their student loan debt. FAME has many years of experience being Maine’s trusted resource when it comes to college saving, financial literacy, and borrowing smarter. * Eligible borrowers are

either Maine residents or students attending an eligible Maine institution; additional eligibility is available for refinance borrowers. Lenders participating in the network include Camden National Bank, cPort Credit Union, Infinity Federal Credit Union, Maine Savings Federal Credit Union, Maine State Credit Union, MidCoast Federal Credit Union, Seaboard Federal Credit Union, and University Credit Union. people to begin with.” Stein says a number of factors that can cause that to happen. For example, sometimes sales managers hire someone recommended by a peer or a superior, and disregard their own hiring procedures. He recalls a personal experience where a CEO needed to hire a vice president of sales. One of the company’s board members heavily promoted a favored candidate. “We had a hiring process See HIRE page 15...

Why Job-Hunting Millennials Could Find a Perfect Match with the Federal Government The greying of the federal-government workforce could soon create a hiring crisis as a large swath of older workers retires in the coming years and a new generation declines to fill the breach. Simply put, most young people who are in job-search mode tend to look elsewhere,

finding no motivation to vie for federal government positions that may strike them as more dreary than dazzling. “Millennials want to work some place that seems cool, like Google, or at least for a company with a recognizable name,” says Ann Vanderslice, president and CEO of Retirement Planning

Strategies, which specializes in advising federal workers about their benefits. “Not that the federal government isn’t a recognizable name. But it just seems bureaucratic to them, with lots of rules and structures.” The nonprofit group Partnership for Public Service reports

that just 7 percent of federal government jobs are held by millennials, even though they account for 23 percent of the overall U.S. workforce. In addition to preferring less-bureaucratic employers, millennials also are dissuaded by the online system for applying for federal employment, a website called USAJobs. Vanderslice describes USAJobs as a “hornets nest” of an application system. “It’s very cumbersome,” she says. “They get lost in it. And then, if you do finish the application, it can take six to nine months for the hiring process to play out. Most of them find other jobs in the meantime.” But if they’re willing to persist, millennials could find that employment with the federal government is more desirable than they realize, Vanderslice says. Some reasons include: • Advancement opportunities. Federal jobs come with an enormous potential to move up quickly because about 30 percent of federal employees are eligible to retire right now, and likely will be retiring in the next three to five years. They are holding higher positions that will suddenly open up, Vanderslice says. That means some young people who start at one of the entry-level positions could be making more than $80,000 in just three to five years. • Benefits. Federal employees enjoy exceptional benefits compared to many other workers. Not only do they have health benefits and paid holidays, they also have both the Thrift Savings Plan, a 401(k)-style plan, and a pension, something few private companies offer anymore. ”Millennials, unfortunately, often don’t understand the value of that,” Vanderslice says.

• Having an impact. Studies have shown that millennials prefer jobs with a purpose beyond making money. Employment with the federal government can provide just the opportunity they are looking for to make a positive difference in people’s lives. “Not only would millennials benefit from joining the federal government labor pool, but the government would benefit, too,” Vanderslice says. “Millennials could bring with them some of that youthful enthusiasm. They also tend to be technologically savvy. This is a potential match that would work well for both the employee and the employer.” Ann Vanderslice (www. annvanderslice.com), president and CEO of Retirement Planning Strategies, helps federal employees understand their benefits, maximize the value of their benefits, and plan for retirement, as well as organize income planning and IRA distributions. BUSINESS & FINANCE ...HIRE from page 13 in place, but the CEO felt compelled to short-cut it,” Stein says. “He asked me to interview the candidate. It took 15 minutes to determine that this candidate wasn't qualified for the job. The CEO hired him anyway.” Six months later, the new VP was gone, Stein says, but only after costing the company millions of dollars in lost opportunities and damaged relation-

ships with customers and business partners. Stein and Andersen say other reasons sales managers make hiring mistakes include: • They are behind their territory coverage plan and are in panic mode. After a little staff turnover, they may find themselves down five reps out of a team of 20. “The instinct is to hire fast and furiously, and that's the problem,” Stein says. • They hire based on gut feel.

Did You Know About Weddings? According to The Knot 2015 Real Weddings Study, the average wedding cost, excluding honeymoon costs, in the United States in 2015 was $32,641, an increase of more than $1,400 from the year prior. Couples did not figure to fare much better in Canada when tying the knot in 2015. According to the Annual Reader Survey from the Canada-based online wedding resource Weddingbells, couples expected to pay slightly less than $31,000 for their weddings. However, those estimates included honeymoon costs. While no information is available regarding the cost of weddings in specific Canadian cities, the 2015 Real Weddings Study found that couples looking to tie the knot in New York City’s Manhattan borough can expect to pay well above the national average. Manhattan weddings cost couples an average of $82,299 in ...SURF from page 3 on hand providing free food to all competitors and food to hungry beach goers for a suggested monetary donation. 2015. That’s over $20,000 more than in Chicago, the next most expensive city to tie the knot in 2015. Couples who want a more affordable place to get married than the Big Apple may want to look into saying “I do” in central Illinois, where the average wedding cost was $21,818, more than $10,000 below the national average.

Many experienced sales managers claim that they know a good sales rep when they see one, but unfortunately they don’t, Andersen says. Even the most intuitive sales managers who hire on a gut feeling get it wrong more often than less-experienced managers with a solid set of tools, he says. • They fall for candidates who sell them during the interview. Salespeople who go from job to job end up gaining a lot of job-interview experience. It may take 10 to 20 interviews for them to land a job. If they change jobs every two years, then after 10 years they have been through 50 to 100 interviews and have become masters at selling themselves, Andersen says. • They don’t effectively check references. The references listed on a job candidate’s resume aren’t necessarily the best people to talk with. Instead, Stein prefers to contact former managers, customers and peers who aren’t listed. Some companies’ HR departments may have policies that don’t allow blind-reference checks, though. • They don't use proven

tools available to them. Stein says those could include assessments, background checks, simulations and behavioral interviews, all of which can provide valuable information. Finally, Stein and Andersen say even with experienced sales people past performance doesn’t necessarily equal future performance. “They will be doing a different job for a different company,” Stein says. “They’ll be selling different products to different customers, and against different competitors. Any one of those

factors could influence how successful the salesperson will be.” Dave Stein is a sales consultant and strategist whose expertise has been widely sought after as a top-tier media source. Steve Andersen is president and founder of Performance Methods Inc., a sales and account management best-practices consulting firm whose clients include industry leaders and many of the world’s top companies. Dear Ellen, You don't have to purchase a PC Cleaning program to find issues on your PC or to clean them up. Windows has built

in cleaning tools, and there is a great, free tool that you can download called Ccleaner. First, Windows comes with a tool called, Disk Cleanup. The easiest way to find it is to click on your start button, then type, "Disk Cleanup". You can also access it by rightclicking on your C: drive, clicking "Properties" then click on "Disk Cleanup". For a slightly more advanced tool, you can use CCleaner at #http://www. piriform.com/ #The free version is fine unless you want it to run scheduled cleanings and do

automatic updates. I hope this helps you keep your computer running in top condition. Elizabeth Dear Elizabeth, I have enjoyed your newsletter for a few years and am grateful for the expert advice that you give. The question I have for you. Is there an advantage to having a computer made to order over a computer from a big box store? Also what are the advantages and disadvantages of having a lap top over a desk top? Thank you for your time, Sonya Dear Sonya, If you have specific needs for your computer, then having the computer made to order would be best. If, however, you are just using it to surf the web, check your email and write a few letters, a computer off the shelf at the big box store would be less expensive. A laptop computer is more portable than a desktop, but harder and more expensive to fix if something needs to be replaced. Those are the differences that immediately come to mind. There might be other things to consider depending on your situation. Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady, I have an older laptop that was dropped with the power cord attached. I thought that the

end of the power cord had bent, and I needed a new cord. I took it to the store where I purchased it, and found out that it's not the power cord, but the prong in the charging port that got bent - thus no connection. They said that it would have to be replaced - to the tune of a little over $300 which is way more than the computer is worth. While I wouldn't mind getting a new laptop, there are photos (and maybe some documents) on my laptop that I would like. Isn't there a less expensive way to fix it? And if so, can a novice like me do it? Thank you! Carol Dear Carol, There is probably not a less expensive way to fix your laptop, but there is a way to get your files off the hard drive. It is probably not something that a novice can do, but your local computer shop should be able to help you with that. I recover files from hard drives for my customers all the time, but an even less expensive option would be to have your files backed up before accidents happen. Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady, I love your newsletter. I read them even though I think I know what to do and usually learn a great lesson. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Today I have a question about

Dear Computer Lady, I enjoy your emails so much and you have enlightened me also. I am not a computer person, but I am learning. printing the list of what I have saved in a folder. I use Windows 8.1. I am an embroidery sewer and have dozens of files that I have downloaded to my computer. The nightmare comes when I need to find a particular file. My naming protocol is scary at best and just downright impossible to find when I'm in a hurry. I have files on my hard drive, on memory sticks and CDs. I started the filing system without thinking about it being difficult to find a file. The digitizer names the files. Some have a name that is description of the item in the files such as ChristmasTree.pes. Some have a number which doesn't give a clue as to what is in the file. Some have 8 to 10 files with the exact same name with the only difference being the size. I just plain need help and any suggestion you have for me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bette Dear Bette, As a fellow saver of embroidery files, I have a couple of tools that I can share with you. One is free and will help you to organize your files and the other is not free, but will help you view and print your files. First for the free tool. The secrets of embroidery website has a handy set of empty folders that are great for organizing embroidery files. I downloaded the folders many years ago, and have even added to them when I have a design that doesn't seem to fit in any of the available. You can read about their organizing ideas and download the folders at: www. secretsof.com/content/608. The second tool that I use and I think you will find invaluable is the Embird embroidery software. You can find Embird at: www.embird.net Embird will help you do two things that are extremely helpful. First, you will be able to print a catalog of all designs in a folder. This is what you are looking for in your original question, and I have used it in the past to print out a catalog of designs. It is great if you want to give people a list of designs to choose from. The file name is listed beneath each image which makes it easy for you to go back and select the right file. For an extra $20. you can purchase the iconizer plug-in for Embird, which will allow you to see an icon for each embroidery file showing what the design is. This saves on paper, but allows you to easily see what each design looks like when browsing your files in Windows. Elizabeth Interested in learning more? The Weekly Recipe: Strawberry-Rhubarb Crisp With the arrival of nice weather, the Rhubarb is now ready for picking. One favorite rhubarb dish is Strawberry-Rhubarb Crisp and it’s easy to make. You can serve it warm or cold and a big scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on the top that gives it an extra kick. This is one dessert your family and friends will enjoy and you will never have leftovers. Make couple of them and freeze the second one for later while the rhubarb is still productive. Strawberries are inexpensive now, so use store bought fresh until your crop comes up in your garden. You can also freeze rhubarb for up to a year if you cut It into inch pieces and place them on a cookie sheet and freeze until ďŹ rm. Place in a freezer bag for storage and you’re ready to make this recipe with your fresh picked strawberries you also froze in season.

Ingredients: 3 cups of fresh rhubarb, cut into 1 inch pieces. If your rhubarb is “large, peel it before cutting 1 pint of fresh Strawberries cleaned and cut in half

½ cup granulated white sugar 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract

Topping: Âź cup all-purpose our ž cup of quick-cooking oatmeal ž cup of brown sugar, packed 1/3 cup of butter, melted

Directions: 1} Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. 2} Mix rhubarb, strawberries and granulated sugar in a large bowl. Pour in an ungreased 9-inch square baking dish, metal if you’re going to freeze. Drizzle with your Vanilla extract. 3} Mix the remaining ingredients in a large mixing bowl until crumbly. Sprinkle over rhubarb mixture. Bake for about 40 minutes or until the rhubarb is tender. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. If you should have any leftovers refrigerate or freeze for another day. Serves 8 kids or 6 adults. Enjoy!

Sandra June Perrott, 77 KENNEBUNK – Sandra June Perrott, “Sandy, age 77, of Kennebunk, died early Tuesday morning, July 26, 2016. She was born in Buffalo, NY on July 20, 1939, the daughter of Alfred J. Perrott and Florence Rita. being homeless. Brenna was found roadside, weighing less than 3 pounds and it was difficult to fathom that she was the mother to the weak and emancipated kitten with her. He was 8 weeks old and weighed less than 2 pounds himself and was so tired and ill. Fortunately, he landed in

the care of a very experienced foster volunteer in Safe Have's program. There they were both monitored, given the medicine, vet care and special feeding routine it took to save them. Little Benny was so weak it was feared he would die. But this little guy had such a great will to live. Now to look at them, it's easy to forget they were once so sick. They are still small, but so

healthy and happy thanks to so much love and great care. This week we are promoting this mother and son pair. Brenna, the lovely young white, brown and black short haired tiger momma kitty and her darling short haired grey and white kitten Benny will surely win your hearts! See SAFE page 27...

Although we quarantine and have our animals vetted and (vaccinated, spay/neutered) checked for a clean bill of health before adoption, sometimes the unknown gets passed us. Recently we unknowingly took in a mom and litter of kittens that had been exposed to ringworm. ~ Sports & Classifieds ~ York Golf and Tennis Club Welcomes Diana Nyad August 16 YORK The York Golf and Tennis Club is pleased to be hosting an evening with Legendary Athlete Diana Nyad, who will be telling her story of pursuing her dreams, mastering the 111-mile swim from Cuba to Florida at age 64 and demonstrating what is possible when we refuse to give up. When Diana arrived on

the shore of Key West after fiftythree hours of grueling swimming across an epic ocean, she not only set a world record — becoming the first person to swim the shark-infested waters between Cuba and Florida with no cage for protection, she also succeeded in fulfilling a dream she first chased at age twentyeight and at long last achieved when she was sixty-four. Diana

...SAFE from page 27 We can't imagine the struggle Brenna had being a stray with a litter to care for and being so underweight and young herself. No wonder Benny has such a will to live, his momma certainly had the same spirit. Now they are ready and waiting for a home together. We're looking for someone to adopt them both together at a reduced rate, thru our Together for Life Program. Both kitties can be adopted together for the price of only one. We are sure that Brenna and Benny will be a fantastic addition to your family. They can be seen by visiting our Adoption Center at 1420 Post Road in Wells, Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Please help us find them a home during their featured week! Thank you! We are excited about Wells

Hannaford letting Safe Haven be the featured non-profit to benefit from their fundraising Kiosk at the entrance to their store. We see the coins and dollars adding up in the collection box and we are thrilled to have your support. Because Safe Haven is No Kill, we have many cats who are older or kitties who have ongoing medical needs. Your donation will go toward quality care to each kitty in our program.
