Eliot Celebrates Maine’s Bicentennial “200-Plus-One” ELIOT Eliot’s celebration of Maine’s Bicentennial (2020) began in September 2019 and was to have wrapped up in September 2020. Because of the pandemic, things were put on hold, but they have now resumed, with Eliot’s Maine Bicentennial Committee reinventing some events. Everyone is welcome to join in celebrating Maine’s Bicentennial “200-Plus-One.” The committee has a number of offerings, as well as free events planned, hosted by various groups. The committee is encouraging the community to decorate in red, white and blue for August through September. Saturday. August 14: As part of Eliot’s celebration of Maine’s “200-Plus-One” Bicentennial from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

there will be a tour at the Eliot Elementary School, 1298 State Road. On display will children’s artwork prepared as part of their Eliot History Studies programs, a mural of the Nightingale by
local artist Gordon Carlisle, the newly installed dedicatory plaque for the Robert Perham Gymnasium and the contributions that have been received for Eliot’s Time Capsule.
From 3-6 p.m. an Old Home Picnic will be held at the Eliot Elementary School upper playground. This community picnic, reminiscent of our early 20th century town celebrations, will include exhibits, games, activities for children, door prizes, and music. There will be a display honoring our Fabyan Drake Good Citizenship Award recipients and children’s artwork, Eliot Festival Day T-shirts will be on sale, we will be taking pre-orders for the town flag and accepting contributions, of laundry detergent, for Footprints Food Pantry of Kittery. Bring your picnic supper, something comfortable to sit on and join the fun! The committee will be providing water, hotdogs, and the Maine State dessert – whoopie pies (while
supplies last). All free! In addition there are series of brochures featuring walking/ driving tours of historical sites in Eliot are available by contacting the Eliot Historical Society at info@eliothistoricalsociety.org and will be sent out via-email attachment. They can also be picked up at the William Fogg Library and Eliot Town Hall during business hours. August 13: 3-6 p.m.: Several historic buildings will be open to the public. The Fogg House at 116 Old Road. The restored homestead of William (17901859) and Betsy (Hill) Fogg was built between 1819 and 1821 and contains personal artifacts, historic book and other collections of the Fogg family. Leavitt Theatre to Host 12th Annual LeavittFest OGUNQUIT LeavittFest 2021, which runs August 13-16 this year, is an annual event at the Leavitt Theatre with the ambition to not only provide a venue for local musicians and artists, but raise money to upgrade and preserve the theatre, helping to keep it current and in operation. This year’s festival will feature 31 bands from the area, playing everything from Swing & Blues, Rock & Roll, and Bluegrass, over four nights from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m.

The venue is the beautiful, 600-seat, summer theatre built in 1923 at 259 Main Street (Route 1) in Ogunquit. In addition to movies, the Leavitt Theatre has turned part of the summer schedule to new forms of entertainment. These include historical silent films with live piano music, a series of big-name comedy shows, and concert events. The balcony has been re-invented as the Leavitt Lounge Restaurant/Bar with food and cocktails for purchase during the shows.
