The team consisted of fifteen sailors from southern Maine. Five sailors ages 10 to 15 raced in the Optimist Dinghy Class, and ten sailors ages 14 to 17 raced in 420s and Lasers. Both teams were coached by former AYC sailors, Eric Morrison for the 420/Laser sailors and McVitty LaPointe for the Optimist sailors. Agamenticus Yacht Club, located in York Harbor, is a club

that promotes boating skills and water safety through their classes and programs geared towards people of all ages and all skill levels. The Race Team is just one of the many learning opportunities offered by AYC. Starting in June, the teams met and practiced in the waters off of York Harbor several days a week. Practice consisted of improving boat handling skills, working on racing strategy and tactics, tuning boats and equipment, and conditioning to improve stamina and strength. In addition to competing in
a small southern Maine regatta each week, the teams travelled to several large regattas around New England. Both the Optimist and the 420/Laser Teams traveled to Camden for the Northeast Junior Olympics, as well as Marblehead, MA, for Marblehead Junior Race Week. The 420/Laser Team also traveled to Scituate, MA, for Scituate Race Week and to Kennebunk for the New England Youth Laser Championships held at the Kennebunk Beach Improvement AsSee YACHTS page 6...
