Wells Announces Wayne D. Vetre as its New Fire Chief WELLS The Wells Town Manager Jonathan Carter and Board of Selectmen announce the appointment of Wayne D. Vetre of Guilford, CT, as its new Fire Chief. This comes following a lengthy position recruitment process that produced 37 applicants with 13 interviewed by the Board of Selectmen, Interim Fire Chief and Town Manager resulting in two finalist and the appointment of Chief Vetre as its fourth full-time Fire Chief since the Wells Fire Department consolidated under a Single Chief in 1988. Chief Vetre comes to Wells from the position of Assistant Fire Chief in

Guilford Connecticut (24,000 pop) a combination Department of 35 career and 62 Volunteer personnel with a $4.2m budget and 3600 calls a year. Chief Vetre has had a career with the Guilford Fire Department rising through the ranks since 1994 to Assistant Chief since 2005 and prior to that serving as Fire Fighter/ EMT with the East Haven CT Fire Department. Chief Vetre will commence his Chief duties in early November 2016 and will reside in Wells. We are fortunate to have found in Wayne Vetre such a qualified, innovative and experienced person to fill our position of Fire Chief. He comes from a

similar coastal community Fire Department in Connecticut as is Wells, with many of the same challenges of growth and hazards o f being located along a busy transportation corridor and rail line. The Community welcomes Chief Vetre and his wife to Wells said Jon Carter, Town Manager. The Town of Wells appointed an Interim Fire Chief, Sherman Lahaie, a veteran former Fire Chief to run the day to day operations of the Fire Department since late June following the retirement of Fire Chief Dan Moore. Fueling Dreams to Benefit Special Olympics STATEWIDE On Saturday, August 27, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., approximately 40 Maine Circle K stores and Irving Oil Dealer locations will be teaming up with members of Maine Law Enforcement and Special Olympics Maine athletes to raise money for, and an awareness of Special Olympics Maine. SML Bridge Closed to Vehicular Traffic KITTERY Maine Department of Transportation has informed the public that The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge that connects Kittery and Portsmouth, NH is currently inoperable. All vehicular traffic may use the I-95 Piscataqua River Bridge. Local traffic can utilize the Memorial Bridge. Mechanical issues have left the bridge in the “open� position. Maine and New Hampshire Departments of Transportation en-

gineers may enlist the assistance of moveable bridge experts to help further the evaluation. The bridge will be closed until further notice. Marine traffic remains unaffected. Engineers from NHDOT and MaineDOT, along with movable bridge experts, have determined the bridge is not safe for routine operation without complicated and extensive repairs.
