Sponsored by Ogunquit Performing Arts (OPA), Happel will perform as a part of the 21st Annual Capriccio Festival of Kites with activities occurring from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This delightful, annual festival features professional kite-flying demonstrations with multiples and oversized kites filling the sky. Children are provided with free white kites to decorate with colorful markers and crayons,
which will be carefully disinfected between use. Their kites can then be entered into a contest with many categories and prizes. Kites are also available for sale at the beach so that no one is left out of the fun! At the end comes the climactic grand ascension, filling the sky with everyone’s kite in the air at the same time. prominent as a result of Charles Woodbury opening his Summer School of Art in Perkins Cove in the early 1900’s. The popularity of the school, and the influx of artists, built Ogunquit’s tourism
to one of the top resort towns in the State of Maine. “Perkins Cove is the perfect location to hold this event as historically the cove was shared by both artists and fishermen,” says
Jen Lewer, an organizer of the event. In addition to seeing painters throughout Perkins Cove and the Marginal Way, the day will be filled with activities including live music, painting demonstrations, and historical art talks by members of the Woodbury family and Richard Perkins. Spectators are invited to watch the painters create their masterpieces outdoors throughout the day in the plein air tradition. There will be a “wet paint sale” and a display of their paintings in Perkins Cove 4-6 p.m. Highlighted from 9:30 a.m. See PAINT page 12...
