New Open Road Tolling Plaza Open YORK At 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, September 15, Maine Turnpike Authority activated the new, high-tech toll plaza at mile 8.8 in York. Hurricane Ida Pets Overload Shelters KENNEBUNK In accordance with its lifesaving mission, the Animal Welfare Society (AWS) has partnered with the Animal Rescue Front to rescue pets from animal shelters impacted by Hurricane Ida. The animals – totaling 17 dogs and 22 cats – arrived at AWS after traveling overnight from Hancock County, Mississippi. “We are pleased to extend our sheltering services to animal welfare groups impacted by Hurricane Ida,” explains Adam Ricci, who oversees AWS’ animal services as Director of Operations and Programs. ELIOT The public is invited to the 40th Annual Eliot Festival Days on September 25 with events happening in the center of Eliot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Eliot Festival Days 5K Road Race starts from the Eliot Fire Station at 8:30 a.m. sharp. The Flag Raising Ceremony at Hammond Park officially opens the Festival at 9 a.m. Dozens of local vendors offering delicious food, refreshing drinks, artful crafts, neighborhood information, and more will line the streets of State Road. The Festival Parade kicks off at 10:45 a.m. from the Eliot Boat Basin, moves along Rt. 103, to pass the reviewing stand across from Hammond Park
