Eliot Festival Days Coming Up! ELIOT Eliot Festival Days kicks off on Friday Evening, September 29 at the Eliot Commons. The William Fogg Library 110th Birthday Bash will be held at the Regatta Room beginning at 7p.m. The festival continues Saturday, 6:30 a.m. with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Eliot Lion’s Club at the First Congregational Church; available until 8:30a.m. The 2nd Regiment of York County Colonial Re-enactment will be in McPherson’s Field all day; cannon shots will be at 9 a.m.-noon, and 2 p.m. This year marks the 25th running of the Eliot Festival 5K Road Race! New organizers have implemented online registration and all proceeds from the race will be donated to End 68 Hours of Hunger of Eliot/ South Berwick. The race starts from the Fire Station at 8:30 a.m. (packets may be picked up Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. and Saturday morning from 6:45-8 a.m.). emony at Hammond Park at 9 a.m. kicks off the official opening of the booths. There are many vendors this year, offering food, drink, crafts, information, and more! A Kid’s Corner with events hosted by Christian Life Church will provide kiddie fun and Dancing DJ Carmen Cronin and Shades of Grass will entertain throughout the day. The parade route will start at the Boat Basin to allow for easy lining-up and turning-around. The parade will begins at 10:45a.m., and pass the reviewing stand across from Hammond Park at 11 a.m. The parade will end at the Library. The Kid’s Fun Run will start at the Library at the conclusion of the parade. Instead of a registration fee, each child is requested to bring a box of
cereal to donate to End 68 Hours of Hunger. Also, new this year will be Outhouse Races! Parking is available at the Eliot Commons on Saturday with shuttle service running to downtown. Note that State Road (in the area of the festival)
is closed to all but bus traffic for the duration of the festival. The Beer Garden returns this year, and will run from noon-3 p.m. Sponsored by The Shipyard Brew Pub, join for music under the tent in Hammond Park while en-
joying a beverage. Only 21 and older are allowed in the tent; must have valid ID. The day will conclude with a Smorgasbord Supper at the First Congregational Church of Eliot from 4-6 p.m. featuring ham and beans, lasagna, macaroni and cheese, as well as other selections, with the Church Ladies’ famous pies for dessert. The Green Acre Baha’i School will host a Turkey Dinner on Sunday afternoon. There will be one seating only at 5 p.m., reservations are required. Enjoy New England’s famous fall weather and foliage with an outing at one of Great Works Regional Land Trust’s many preserves. Sponsored this fall by Hussey Seating, Jeweler’s Outlet, and South Berwick Dental, these guided hikes are free to members with a modest donation recommended for others. Featured this fall: Keay Brook Preserve
and Kenyon Hill Preserve; two history hikes with Old Berwick Historical Society, sponsored by South Berwick Pharmacy; a mushroom identification outing at Negutaquet Conservation Area; and three Wednesday Wanderings featuring: Bauneg Beg Mountain, Savage Wildlife Preserve, and Kimball Farm
North Preserve. Great Works is also holding weekly volunteer trail work days at two preserves: Douglas Memorial Woods in Eliot and Desrochers Memorial Forest in South Berwick. On National Estuaries Day, Saturday, September 23, 10 a.m.-noon, Michael Wright of Berwick will lead a walk around Keay Brook Preserve in Berwick, part of the 229-acre Salmon Falls River Conservation Area. The one-mile loop trail follows the Salmon Falls River, past the remnants of the Walnut Grove Road bridge, and on to the Keay Brook estuary.
Sunday, October 8, 10 a.m.-noon, explore the dramatic ledges and varied terrain of Kenyon Hill Preserve in South Berwick, including the wetland headwaters of the Ogunquit River. The first fall outing with Old Berwick Historical Society is Saturday, Oct. 14 at Great Works’ Rocky Hills Preserve in the York Pond region of South Berwick and Eliot. South Berwick Youth Receives his Wish SOUTH BERWICK Ethan Fahey is a fourth grade student at Great Works School (GWS) in South Berwick who has shown incredible bravery and positive attitude as he continues his medical treatment journey. Ethan and his family were surprised by visitors from the Make-a-Wish Foundation last week who granted Ethan's
wish to swim with the dolphins at Atlantis in the Bahamas. The Fahey family will travel December 13-18 for dolphin swimming, water slides, relaxation, and fun!
