Get Outside with Local Fall Hikes YORK COUNTY Fall is here and it’s Great Works Regional Land Trust (GWRLT) hike season! Join them on the trails exploring favorite trail systems with seasoned guides and a new series of birding outings every Thursday at 7:30 a.m., September through October. GWRLT will also be participating in the Get Outside! Fall Scavenger Hunt with Gateway to Maine Outside Partners. Participants may enter the fall hunt for a raffle prize and receive a complimentary sticker upon entry. Search for 14 local landmarks in Southern York County region from October 1 through December 15. For more information and to register visit www.mta2c.org/explore. Opening this season on October 2, 10-11:30 a.m., is the fall hike at Keay Brook Preserve, a loop trail along the Salmon Falls River and out to the freshwater estuary of Keay Brook. This is a great outing for early fall foliage sightings. The Wednesday Wandering, October 6, will be at Orris Falls Conservation Area in North Berwick, 10 a.m. - noon, from the Emery’s Bridge Road entrance. Explore local landmarks like Balancing Rock, Orris Falls, LaChance Point and the beaver wetland. Join them on

October 7 for the birding walk series, Migration Morning Bird Walks, hosted by member and birder Scott Richardson with a walk at Keay Brook Preserve. Keay Brook features river and brook frontage, expect to see migrating birds like ducks and geese enjoying this freshwater estuary. Migration Morning Bird Walks are for beginners and long-time birders, and GWRLT has binoculars available for use. The next Migration Morning will be at Negutaquet Conservation Area in North Berwick

on October 14, 7:30 a.m. Tour this woodland trail system, which features meadows and a trail along the river; Great Blue Herons, wood ducks, ovenbirds, many warblers, and woodpeckers are often seen at this riverside preserve. Saturday, join them at Negutaquet Conservation Area from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., for a Foraging Foray with partner North Spore Mushroom. Learn about fungi and how to find them, this outing is $30 per person. On Thursday, October 21, 7:30 a.m., join Scott at

KITTERY The Town of Kittery is set to kick-off the 375th anniversary of its incorporation with a Taste of Kittery event on Saturday, October 9. The fun kicks off 1-4 p.m. at Post Office Square, 10 Shapleigh Road in Kittery, with a showcase event featuring the local vibrant restaurant community and delicious mix of sips and bites, music and fun. Admission is $15 and includes tastes from all participants. Attendees can also purchase an upgraded ticket for $25 to get up to five pours of local beers, including a one-of-a-kind 375th Celebration Brew, courtesy of Woodland Farms in partnerKimball Farm North Preserve in South Berwick for another morning bird walk along the trails. This preserve connects to a larger trail system called the Ogunquit River Trail Network, featuring large glacial erratics, fields, and frontage along Tatnic Brook and the Ogunquit River. BERWICK / SOUTH BERWICK Notification has been given by Pan Am Railways of the complete road closure of Route 236 (Berwick Road by the Berwick town line) on Tuesday, October 5 and Wednesday, October 6.
