The $250 second place winner was 12 year-old Colette Haines from Durham, New Hampshire, who played the piano while rapping and singing the song “Wings by her favorite artist Macklemore. Both winners will be featured in a CBS Boston piece to air next year. Each of the contestants received positive affirmation for their efforts from judges Ogunquit Playhouse Executive Artistic Director Brad Kenney, Kara DioGuardi and composer Tim Janis.
The host of the event was Jadd Naamani of iHeartRadio's Z107. Senate Passage of Resolution Celebrates Afterschool Programs WASHINGTON DC U.S. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Barbara Boxer (D-CA) praised the unanimous Senate passage of their resolution recognizing Lights On Afterschool, a celebration of afterschool programs nationwide. “Afterschool programs provide an enriching environment for students once the school day has ended, said Senator Susan Collins. “By engaging young people in academic and physical activities, these programs enhance students’ education and help promote healthy habits. In addition, afterschool programs provide parents with peace of mind knowing that their children are in a safe and structured setting. "I am so pleased that the Senate recognizes the impor-
tance of high-quality afterschool programs, said Senator Barbara Boxer. “These programs help keep our children safe, improve student performance and enrich our kids’ education with activities like music, art, sports and so much more. More than one million people are expected to participate in more than 8,000 Lights On Afterschool events across the nation. For the past 17 years, these events have fostered awareness of afterschool programs among the public and elected officials, and demonstrate the value of such programs by allowing participants to showcase the skills they have learned and talents they have developed.

~ Arts & Entertainment ~ A Spooky Concert for All Hallows’ Eve KENNEBUNK On Saturday, October 29, at 3 p.m., Christ Church, 6 Dane St, Kennebunk will present a concert of spooky music in anticipation of All Hallows’ Eve and All Saints’ Day after. Christ Church Music Director “Maestro Warren King and virtuoso flutist Diana McNulty have gathered a program of great spooky music, from “Night on Bald Mountain to Bach’s “Toccata in D Minor and the theme song from “The Addams Family. The program is de-
signed to be fun, with plenty of spooky shivers. All Saints Day (November 1), was thought to be when the spirits of those who have left this life were free to roam, in ancient Europe. People would wear costumes so spirits that might want to do them harm would not recognize them. They moved from door to door asking for food in return for a prayer for the dead and they would carry hollowedout turnip lanterns. In the New World, native pumpkins were found to be a lot easier to empty
and carve; hence Jack O’ Lanterns. Suggested donation for the concert is $15, or $10 for seniors and students; children under 12 are welcome at no charge. Come in costume for $2 off admission! Trick-or-Treat Intermission included. For more information, visit www.christchurchkennebunk.org, call 207-985-4494, or visit the office. Christ Church is handicap-accessible from the parking lot behind Town Hall, and also has a parking lot across Dane Street.

‘Million Dollar Quartet’ an Electrifying Finale to Ogunquit Playhouse Season
By Nancye Tuttle, Staff Reporter OGUNQUIT Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis are alive and well and making raucous rock ‘n’ roll history in “Million Dollar Quartet, on stage at Ogunquit Playhouse through November 6. The fabulous foursome seems to indeed come to life in this super-charged musical, which played Broadway in 2010-2011 and wowed sold-out crowds here last season. The show pays tribute to an historic event that occurred on December 4, 1956 when the icons gathered for an impromptu, onetime-only recording session at Sun Record Studios, their musical home in Memphis, TN. Perkins was there to cut some new tapes, hoping to revive his sagging career. Sam Phillips, Sun Records owner, brought in the young Lewis, unknown outside of Memphis, to play piano and rev up Perkins’

sets. Elvis, by then recording for RCA and making movies, stopped by for a visit, bringing along his girlfriend. And Cash, ready to depart for Columbia, showed up, as well. They sang some originals, a few gospel tunes and several familiar songs, and the sound engineer hit the record button, giving birth to the Million Dollar Quartet. Phillips, recognizing the momentous occasion, called in reporters, who took the photo that appeared in the papers. Nothing came of the session for 25 years, when an album, entitled The Million Dollar Quartet was released. In 2006, RCA issued a 50th anniversary release of the session, and veteran music historian/ writer Colin Escott and film writer/producer Floyd Mutrux collaborated on a fictional stage rendition of what transpired on that day. The script condenses what happened over 18 months into
one evening. These events — Perkins’ anger at Presley for performing his (Perkins) hit “Blue Suede Shoes on Ed Sullivan’s TV show, Phillips selling Presley’s contract to RCA, Cash’s angstfilled decision to depart Sun for Columbia Records, Presley’s ambivalence working for RCA and Lewis’ self-assured swagger — give the show a lot more dramatic clout than your typical juke box musical. Music is at the heart of Million Dollar Quartet and its score features such timeless hits as “Blue Suede Shoes, “Great Balls of Fire, “I Walk the Line, “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On, “Fever, OGUNQUIT Join Art HOPE 1,000 Healing Cranes at Ogunquit Museum of American Art (OMAA) on Sunday, October 23, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help make origami paper cranes for healing. The event is an on-going project of the Art HOPE Youth Service in Health Care program, involving local student volunteers who fold cranes throughout the year for York Hospital Oncology Care patients and community members living with long-term illness. In Japanese tradition, paper cranes symbolize a wish for health and well-being, and 1,000 ensures good luck for all. In this fourth annual program, local artist Laura Jaquays and volunteers will teach participants of all ages how to fold a classic paper crane. “Origami is a wonderfully expressive medium for art-making, art-taking, and art-giving, said Jaquays. "It offers wellness benefits including improved agility and memory, active braineye-hand functioning, the confidence of learning a creative skill, and stress reduction through mindfulness. And each crane is a whimsical work of art! “The museum is happy to be working again with Laura and Art HOPE on this wonderful community event, said Jill Burke, OMAA Education Coordinator. “We hope many of OMAA’s friends and supporters will attend and help us create healing cranes. Typically, children's books do not fully represent the varied perspectives of local, national and global diversity. She helped the faculty understand how greater racial awareness and understanding can be developed with the help of appropriate and relevant children's books. BUSINESS & FINANCE Why Job-Hunting Millennials could find a Perfect Match with the Federal Government
The greying of the federalgovernment workforce could soon create a hiring crisis as a large swath of older workers retires in the coming years and a new generation declines to fill the breach. Simply put, most young people who are in job-search mode tend to look elsewhere, finding no motivation to vie for federal government positions that may strike them as more dreary than dazzling. “Millennials want to work some place that seems
cool, like Google, or at least for a company with a recognizable name,” says Ann Vanderslice, president and CEO of Retirement Planning Strategies, which specializes in advising federal workers about their benefits. “Not that the federal government isn’t a recognizable name. But it just seems bureaucratic to them, with lots of rules and structures.” The nonprofit group Partnership for Public Service reports that just 7 percent of fed-
eral government jobs are held by millennials, even though they account for 23 percent of the overall U.S. workforce. In addition to preferring less-bureaucratic employers, millennials also are dissuaded by the online system for applying for federal employment, a website called USAJobs. Vanderslice describes USAJobs as a “hornets nest” of an application system. “It’s very cumbersome,” she says. “They get lost in it. And then, if you do finish the
application, it can take six to nine months for the hiring process to play out. Most of them find other jobs in the meantime.” But if they’re willing to persist, millennials could find that employment with the federal government is more desirable than they realize, Vanderslice says. Some reasons include: • Advancement opportunities. Federal jobs come with an enormous potential to move up quickly because about 30 percent of federal employees are eligible to retire right now, and likely will be retiring in the next three to five years. They
Hire-A-Vet Campaign STATEWIDE Veterans possess unique skills and abilities that are essential to effective organizations. This year, the Maine Hire-A-Vet campaign will include the often overlooked immediate family members, who persevere while the veteran is away from home defending our freedoms. Their goal is to engage a minimum of 100 employers to hire 100+ veterans/family members in 100 days. To join the campaign please contact: Campaign Coordinator, Steven Roy, at (207) 624-5156, or email MaineHireAVet.DOL@maine.gov.

are holding higher positions that will suddenly open up, Vanderslice says. That means some young people who start at one of the entry-level positions could be making more than $80,000 in just three to five years. • Benefits. Federal employees enjoy exceptional benefits compared to many other workers. Not only do they have health benefits and paid holidays, they also have both the Thrift Savings Plan, a 401(k)-style plan, and a pension, something few private companies offer anymore. ”Millennials, unfortunately, often don’t understand the value of that,” Vanderslice says. • Having an impact. Studies have shown that millennials prefer jobs with a purpose beyond making money. Employment with the federal government can provide just the opportunity they are lookSee JOBS page 30...
Funding for Crime Victim Program STATEWIDE U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King have announced that the Maine Office of the Attorney General will receive $197,000 through the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Crime Victims Fund. Funds from the Crime Victims Fund enhance state victim compensation payments to eligible crime victims. “No one who has been the target of a crime should be forced to shoulder expenses resulting from being victimized,” Senators Collins and King said in a joint statement. “By supplementing state funding to reimburse victims for outof-pocket expenses relating to a crime, this grant will help individuals recover more quickly.” The Crime Victims Fund was established as a 1988 amendment to the Victims of Crimes Act of 1984. The Fund seeks to support victims of crime and recognizes that victims may face substantial challenges and be entitled to monetary compensation. It is financed by fines and penalties paid by convicted federal offenders.

In 1949, Frank joined his brother, Francis Hall at Triangle Motors; which they owned and operated until 2007. He and his wife spent summers at their Wells Beach Cottage and had traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Canada. Florence I. LaBrie, 91 WELLS – Florence I.(Woodman-Alexandre) LaBrie of North Berwick Road, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at her home with family by her side. Florence was born in Effingham, NH on September 17, 1925, daughter of Kirtland and Dorothy (Sprague) Woodman. She lived most of her life in Wells and had dedicated her life to raising her family. Florence was a talented quilter and doll maker which were sold to those so privileged to have purchased them. In September, Florence was honored with a 91st birthday celebration at her daughter Nancy’s home, at which she was able to visit with all of her family and friends whom she adored so much. Florence was pre-deceased by her 3 sisters, Helen Matthews, Evelyn Alexandre and Virginia Trafton, her brother Kirtland Woodman, Jr., and her first husband and father of her 4 children, Raymond Alexandre and her beloved canine companion, Alice. Animal Welfare Society WEST KENNEBUNK The story of Ludwig, currently available for adoption from the Animal Welfare Society, as told by our Animal Transport Manager, Jen: “A big part of my job here at the Animal Welfare Society is to bring animals to the Animal Welfare Society from other shelters that are overcrowded and are at risk of euthanasia due to capacity restraints. I selected Ludwig to come to AWS from North Carolina because of his handsome good looks, his smile in his picture, and the wonderful things the shelter staff there had to say about him. Ludwig has that special, old soul, draw you in and make you smile personality. Sometimes individual

There’s something else that we found out about Ludwig: he was having an exam to be neutered after arrival at AWS and our vet staff felt a mass in his abdominal area and when they did surgery on him it turned out to be a very large mass attached to his intestines. Unfortunately the mass came back as a cancerous mass and although the vet got the mass out, dogs with this cancer typically have a very shortened life span of 12-24 months. So Ludwig now needs a family that is willing to give him the best life he can possibly imagine for however long he has. We still have a very nice selection of young kittens, a good number of teenage kittens, a reasonable number of young adults and a limited number of older cats all looking to you for a new loving home and family. We are looking to the public to help us by dropping off any of these very basic items so we may continue to meet our mission. We have drop sites at our adoption center located at 251 Country Club Road, Sanford, Maine and our thrift store located at the 37 Market Street North Berwick, Maine. Wells Receives 49-Acre Gift WELLS The Town of Wells is the recipient of 49 acres of land given by Annie Gowen in memory of W. Ellis and Florence I. Gowen who were the parents of her husband, Norman Ellis. Florence farmed the land for many years and raised their three chil-

~ Ask The Computer Lady ~ Dear Computer Lady, I like to use online videos and tutorials for instruction and would like to save them to my documents for later off-line reference. I have win 7 and have heard it is possible. Can you tell me what I need to do this, maybe in mp 4 or mp3 format. Hoping you can help, Robert Dear Robert, It is possible to save online videos to your computer, but it is not always legal. Before you start downloading your videos and tutorials, you need to make sure you are able to do so. Once you have checked out the legalities, you next need to find a software program to help you with your task. I have not used any of these programs, but found a few online that you might want to check out. YTD Video Downloader at www. ytddownloader.com, RealPlayer at www.real.com, NDNow Video Downloader at www.dlnowsoft.com, Freemake Video Downloader at www.freemake. com/free_video_downloader/. Hopefully one of these will work for you. Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady, I have a laptop computer with vista, it is 7 yrs old. Is there anything I can do to try to keep using it without spending a lot of money to keep it going since there won't be any updates going? I would like to put a different windows in it, but with the age I really don't want to spend a lot of money not knowing how much longer
it will last. Do you have any suggestions to help? I would appreciate what ever help you can give. I really enjoy your help and advice you give thru your emails,. Thank you very much for all your help with the many computer questions so many of us have. Shirley Dear Shirley, If you are using this computer to go online, I would suggest that you get a Linux CD and use that as your operating system. If you are using the computer for programs that don't need online access, just don't connect to the internet and you should be fine. Here are the steps that I set up for my customers who want to continue using their older computer. 1. Download Puppy Linux at: http://puppylinux.org/ There are directions on the website for how to download. 2. You will download an iso file. Use your CD burning program to create a Puppy Linux disk. 3. With the disk in your CD drive, shut down the computer, then start it up and press the key your computer uses to display
a boot menu. (you might have to look this up on your laptop manufacturers website) You can try either F12 or the Esc key as those are the most common. 4. Once in the boot menu, choose to boot to the CD and you will find yourself looking at the puppy linux desktop instead of the Windows desktop. I usually download and create a disk for my customers, give them a short lesson on booting to the disk and they happily use Linux as their online operating system. Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady, After backing up all the information that I had on an old computer to my recently purchased new computer, I am unable to open some saved Outlook 2010 files. They transferred over from my old computer into my “Documents folder on my new computer and after getting the message that I had to move them to my new Outlook 2010 file, I did, but still they would not open and just recently that file shows that it is empty. But I do see the following files in my Documents folder = Archive.

pst; My Outlook Data File (1). pst; and Outlook.pst. How can I open these to retrieve the saved information? Your help is appreciated, Penny Dear Penny, The best way to retrieve the messages in those files is to open Outlook first, then use the "Import" function to import the messages, contacts and settings into Outlook. I don't have Outlook 2010 on my computer so I can't give you step by step directions, but usually the import function is either in the "File" menu or the "Tools" menu. If you live in the area, I would be happy to set Outlook back up for you, transferring emails from old to new computers is one of the things I frequently do for my customers. Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady, I really only have a problem with your tiny font. Must be a 10 or smaller. I am using 14 as above in bold This is yours in black. I was wondering if you could possible enlarge your font
for us seniors whose sight is not what it use to be. I really enjoy your Q & As. Lynn in Orlando, Fl Dear Lynn, I actually send this newsletter out in plain text. This means that the size of the text in the messages is determined by the recipient. All you need to do is go into the settings in your email program and enlarge the font for reading plain text messages. You didn't specify what email program you are using, so I can't give you directions, but it should be easy to find by looking through the settings. I already have directions on my website for changing the font size in Windows Live Mail at: http://wp.me/pwwRq-QW. Elizabeth Interested in learning more? ...MORE from page 24 a minor in neuroscience. Shannon longs for the opportunity to become a pediatric surgeon. For several years she helped care for a child requiring special attention. She performed her duties with precision and and compassion. Shannon states that she “loves to feel the adrenaline pumping through her veins when she has the opportunity to help a person in need. “It is reassuring to know that wherever these young people choose to serve, their patients will be in exceedingly good hands, and they will indeed make a difference, said Scholarship Committee Co-
Chair Alice Emery. The Friends of York Hospital and the York Hospital community salute each and every one of these recipients and are most grateful to the entire Scholarship Committee who spent many thoughtful hours reading nearly 30 applications, and making some difficult decisions. “They were excellent interviewers, Alice noted, “while asking probing questions and also putting the students at ease. Other Scholarship Committee members include: Nick DeNitto, Maddie Hayes, Sally Hudgins, Nancy Huff, Dr. Robert Hulefeld, Hilary Leonhard, Judith McAllister and Roberta Sullivan. Special thanks
...QUARTET from page 16 But if music is its heart, its electrifying performers are the soul of this musical, starting with the amazing Nat Zegree, reprising last year’s fabulous portrayal of Jerry Lee Lewis, in an itchy, twitchy ball of energy performance accompanied by his own incredible riffs. Scott Moreau makes a comeback as Johnny Cash, in a to the Friendraising Team of York Hospital for their support. barrel-chested, deep-voice performance, laced with the sad melancholy that is acutely reminiscent of the country-gospel great. Beau Cassidy, making his Ogunquit debut as Elvis Presley, brings a swagger and believability to his portrayal of the King, more so than last year’s performer. And his performance clearly delighted his dad, teen heartthrob David Cassidy (The Partridge Family), who was in the audience the day I was there. James Barry, also making his debut here, plays Carl Perkins with understated appeal and a terrific voice. Jason Loughlin, returning
as Sam Phillips, is excellent in his key role as narrator. And Bligh Voth, as Elvis’ girlfriend Dyanne, adds just enough feminine sizzle to this male-dominated show. Nathan Yates Douglass and David Sonneborn play backup to the stars but are pivotal to the show’s sound and success. Million Dollar Quartet is a show to return to again and again. I liked it last year, and this year, I loved it. You won’t want to miss it. Believe me, it rocks. Million Dollar Quartet continues through Nov. 6. Call 207-646-4411 or visit www. SPORTS SCOREBOARD Berwick Academy
Girls' Varsity Soccer Wednesday, Oct. 12 Berwick 7, Kents Hill 0 The Bulldogs had a solid 7-0 win over Kents Hill at home. The Bulldogs created a lot of chances but couldn't find the back of the net until the 29th minute when Rayne Zimmermann (Exeter, NH) hit a great diagonal ball to Caroline Starr (Rye, NH) who volleyed the ball back across the net to Aaliyah Farid (Hampton, NH) who scored what would be the game winning goal. Rayne Zimmermann (Exeter, NH) added a goal of her own in the 35th minute after stealing the ball. Annie Vatcher (Kennebunk, ME) had a great chance in the 38th minute flying down the left flank and firing a shot just wide of the back post. Up 2-0 going into the second half the Bulldogs were determined to capitalize on the chances they created and Annie Vatcher (Kennebunk) almost got on the board in the 42nd minute just narrowly missing a header off a cross from Kenza Farid (Hampton, NH). Less then a minute later, Kenza Farid (Hampton, NH) got off another great cross this time to Christine Gardella (Haverhill, MA) who increased the Bulldog lead to 3-0. In the 50th minute Christie Sullivan (Stratham, NH) hit a beautiful corner and Kenza Farid (Hampton, NH) was there to head it into the back of the net. In the 54th minute Christine Gardella (Haverhill, MA) got her second goal of the game with a quick shot that caught the Kents Hill keeper off guard and fell right below the crossbar off a pass from Rayne Zimmermann (Exeter, NH). In the 70th minute Rayne Zimmermann (Exeter, NH) got her second goal of the game with a rocket of a shot
from the top of the 18 to the upper left corner. In the 76th minute Caroline Starr (Rye, NH) got the fnal Bulldog goal with a nice shot. The Bulldogs improved to 6-3-1 and Sam Montagno (Exeter, NH) earned the teams 5th shutout of the season with the win. Statistical Summary: 29th A. Farid from Starr and Zimmermann, 35th Zimmermann, 43rd Gardella From K. Farid, 50th K. Farid From Sullivan, 54th Gardella from Zimmerman, 70th Zimmermann, 76th Starr, Montagno 0GA 5th Shutout.
Friday, Oct. 14 Berwick 2, Newton Country Day, 0 The Bulldogs returned to league play in the Eastern Independent League with a 2-0 win over Newton Country Day School. The Bulldogs created a lot of chances and in the 14th minute they got on the board when Adara Groman (Stratham NH) played a great ball over the top to Rayne Zimmermann (Exeter, NH) who made her way down the right flank and blasted the ball off the left post and into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. Newton had some good possesion in the Berwick defensive end but Berwick's defense was solid. Berwick continued to play well but couldn't get a second goal with Newton's goalkeeper picking up most through balls. In the 38th minute they had their best chance to increase the lead with a fury in the box after a shot from Rayne Zimmermann (Exeter, NH) deflected off the keeper and the ball bounced around the 6 yard box for what seemed liked 2-3 minutes. The Bulldogs went into halftime up 1-0, and Newton came out strong in the second half. Newton started to create more chances in the early part of the second half, including one effort that went off the cross-
bar. Overall the Berwick defense of Christie Sullivan (Stratham, NH), Adara Groman (Stratham, NH), Vanessa Leavitt (Haverhill, MA), Tess Varley (Portsmouth, NH), Kenza Farid (Hampton, NH), and Rayne Zimmermann (Exeter, NH) was solid with many key plays and clearances. It wasn't until the 74th minute that the pressure was lifted when Aaliyah Farid (Hampton, NH) dribbled around multiple Newton defenders broke into the 18-yard box and put the ball past a rushing Newton keeper for the insurance goal. The Bulldogs improved to 7-3-1 and Sam Montagno (Exeter, NH) earned the teams 6th shutout of the season with the 2-0 win. Statistical Summary: 14th Zimmermann from Groman, 74th A Farid unassisted, Montagno 0GA 6th Shutout.

'Tis the season for pumpkin picking, hot cider, and of course, trick-or-treating. As the holiday approaches, stores and websites offering Halloween costumes and decorations seem to pop up overnight. Better Business Bureau advises shoppers to check out unfamiliar stores or websites first before buying. According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), the Halloween industry is expected to reach a record-breaking $8.4 billion in sales this year. This means more and more people are hopping on the costumeselling bandwagon, but may not encompass the business practices you want to invest your time and money in. The last thing you need is to order a costume and have it arrive looking nothing like it was advertised, clearly damaged, delivered too late, or not delivered at all. "Every year, we hear Halloween horror stories from con-
sumers who received poor-quality items," said Paula Fleming, Chief Marketing & Sales Officer for the local BBB. "Getting a costume at a discounted price may seem like a good deal, but you should examine items carefully before purchasing, or at the very least, check the store's return policy." One consumer’s horror story involved ordering her child's costume online. “I wanted to avoid spending an entire day rummaging through the chaotic costume racks at the nearby shopping mall, so I figured shopping online was the way to go this year. The customer ended up using a third-party site to buy a used costume for a discounted price for her child. The picture the seller used featured the product in its original packaging, so she assumed it would look as promised. When the costume arrived, it was wrinkled and
looked well-worn. It definitely didn’t make her or her child excited about dressing up that year. If you're shopping for costumes and decorations this Halloween, there are some tricks to keep an eye out for to avoid being haunted well after the season: Look for the Seal: BBB Accredited Businesses meet Accreditation standards, which include a commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve any customer complaints. With more than 400,000 Accredited Businesses, simply looking for the BBB seal is an easy way to make sure the business that you’re dealing with is trustworthy. Double Check the Site’s Security: Only provide your credit card number online in a secure environment. On pages where you enter a credit card number or PayPal account login, look for the prefix “https:// in the URL box listing the website’s address to be sure that the site you are

Shopping at a Seasonal Store: If you’re buying from a seasonal store, ask whether it will be open after the holiday and whether it will accept returns when the season is over. If not, consider buying elsewhere or taking more time to be sure the item is exactly what you want before making the purchase. Renting vs. Buying: Sometimes it feels a little silly to buy a costume your child is only going to wear once. Renting may seem like a smart way to get a great costume at a less expensive price, but understand that rented costumes mean multiple children have already worn them

Fogg Entrance #2 and use the parking lot at the top of the hill. Bunker coordinates nursery sales for Fedco, a co-op seed and nursery company in Clinton, Maine. His passion is tracking down heirloom fruit varieties, particularly those originating in Maine. His presentation will explore the past 300 years of apple history, paying particular attention to the transformational 1800s and how those hundred years changed the apple orchards of Maine forever. Bunker will examine the 20th century, when apple diversity went into steep decline, as well as the 21st century and its cider revolution and the

return of the heirlooms. “How do we invent a local agriculture for the future? said Bunker. “The keys to our success may be waiting in the past for us to rediscover. Bunker grew up in Massachusetts and California, moving to Maine in 1968. He has lived in Palermo on Super Chilly Farm for the past 43 years, where he and Cammy Watts grow vegetables, woody and herbaceous ornamentals, small fruits and tree fruits. He established the Maine Heritage Orchard at the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) Common Ground in Unity. Eventually the orchard will be home to 500 or more historic pears and apples, with 170 planted so far. Orris Falls Conservation Hike
A Community Forum will take place Thursday, November 3rd at 6pm at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. State regulators are currently reviewing the proposal put forth earlier this year by both WentworthDouglass Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital to have Mass General become the parent organization of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. This is an exciting proposal for Wentworth-Douglass and our entire community—one that will enhance the quality care available for patients and their families right here on the Seacoast. WORLD-RENOWNED CARE Wentworth-Douglass has had a clinical afďŹ liation with with Mass General since 2008 which has brought new sophisticated levels of care with world-class clinicians and expertise to this community. Joining the Mass General family is a natural progression of this close relationship and will make Wentworth-Douglass a leading destination for health care right here in the Seacoast with additional specialty services to treat conditions not traditionally available at community hospitals. LEADING-EDGE PROTOCOLS Wentworth-Douglass will provide care with evidencebased best practices created by the nation’s leading
hospital. In conjunction with our existing network of skilled primary care and specialty providers, new skills and technology will mean cutting-edge care is available right here in the Seacoast.

Thursday, October 27 Candidates' Forum
SEAMLESS INFORMATION SHARING Medical, diagnostic and pharmaceutical information will be accessible by providers through a shared (and protected) electronic medical record system. This makes transitions in care safer and meets the challenges of the future in a more cost effective manner by reducing unnecessary testing for patients and improving the efďŹ ciency and coordination of care.
7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Town Hall in South Berwick. Participating will be candidates for the Maine House of Representatives, the South Berwick Town Council, and RSU 35 Board of Directors. Forum will be live-streamed on the town's webcam. Sponsored by SmartGrowth South Berwick, a program of SoBo Central.
Maine’s Opiate/Heroin Crisis
This proposed acquisition is still under review but its terms note that while Mass General would be the parent organization, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital would remain an independently licensed, not-forproďŹ t, charitable health care organization, and maintain its own board of trustees, medical staff, community connections, and fundraising activities. We invite you to learn more and ask your questions at our Community Forum in the Garrison Auditoriums at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital on November 3 at 6pm. Location: 789 Central Ave, Dover, NH 03820.

Proudly Serving the citizens of District 5 Berwick and North Berwick (part) Dear Citizens, I am running for re-election for House District 5, Berwick and North Berwick (part), because I continue to have great concerns about many issues that our families face every day. I can continue to be a strong voice for you in helping to shape policy that ensures positive economic growth along with a better quality of life for all Maine citizens. In the 127th legislature I was selected to serve on Energy Utilities and Technology, and with your vote I hope to continue serving on this committee in the 128th Legislature. The laws that are passed in this committee affect every single household and business in our beautiful state. policy that will be a driver for positive economic growth and keep more of your hard earned money in your pocket – not the special interests that lobby legislators have to socialize the costs of their business on the backs of you, the rate payers. Nick Bennett, the staff scientist for the Natural Resource Council of Maine, said in a thank you note: “I appreciate the great work you did last session on the biomass issue. I think it was a big win that the legislature passed only a $13 million subsidy rather than the approximately $200 million subsidy the biomass industry initially asked for. This was in great part due to your work pushing the issue. I wanted no subsidies to out-of-state interests. The Maine Credit Union League which serves 676,000 members endorsed my campaign saying that my past outstanding support was a major factor in making the endorsement. The National Federation of Independent Business endorsed my campaign saying “nearly all candidates talk about their support for small business but what matters most is action, not just talk, and your voting record clearly shows that you both speak out and stand up for small business. ! " # opponent received an “F. Maine Taxpayers United endorsed my campaign because of my work on taxation issues. Their motto is “to reduce our state and local tax burden and promote prudent government spending. % & ' can Legion for supporting them. They stated my “excellence in promoting " It has been an honor and a privilege to serve you. I hope I have earned your vote to continue to do so. Sincerely,

Ogunquit Village School on November Ballot OGUNQUIT Ogunquit Village School (OVS) in Ogunquit closed in 2004 after the Wells-Ogunquit Community School District and the Maine Department of Education determined that necessary building repairs would cost more than the building was worth. Safety concerns also contributed to the decision to close the school and shortly after closing, the building was condemned by the state fire marshall. How will the community decide the fate of the OVS School? With elections coming up, this issue will be decided by voters. One proposal up for consideration is to reuse the building as a
