Coastal Ridge Elementary Receives Blue Ribbon Recognition WASHINGTON, DC/YORK Senator Angus King recently met with administrators and teachers from Coastal Ridge Elementary School (CRES) in Washington, D.C. Senators King and Collins also released the following statement last month when the Department of Education named CRES a Blue Ribbon School. “Here in Maine, we are truly fortunate to have so many dedicated members of the community who work hard to ensure that every child has a learning environment that is
safe, welcoming, and enriching,� said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “Education plays a vital role in open-
ing the doors of opportunity to the next generation of leaders in Maine, and across the nation. We are proud to recognize the
teachers, administrators, faculty, students, and families who all contribute to the success of the Costal Ridge Elementary School and Minot Consolidated School on a daily basis.� The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Every year the U. S. Department of Education seeks out and celebrates great American
schools, schools demonstrating that all students can achieve to high levels. More than 7,500 of schools across the country have been presented with this coveted award. The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content. The National Blue Ribbon School flag gracing an entry or flying overhead is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.
Veterans Receive Special Celebration at Middle School ELIOT – Marshwood Middle School of Eliot, held its 15th Annual Veterans Day Celebration on Tuesday, November 10 to honor those who have served our country. Veterans were given a personal welcome, as they were invited to stand in lines along the hallways leading into the gymnasium. Then, as the student body entered into the assembly, numbering more than 500, each shook the hand of every

Bagpiper Dave McLean accompanied the parade. The Eliot Police Department’s Color Guard brought up the flags of Maine and the United Stares. Dr. Mary Nash, Superintendent of School Administrative District 35, welcomed all. Then World War II veterans were given special thanks, amidst a standing ovation, applause and cheers from
the students. Grade Seven and Eight Chorus sang “I Am But One Small Voice,� its refrain: “Come young citizens of the world. We are one, we have hopes, we have one dream, with one voice we sing: Liberty and Hope for all Mankind.� Elizabeth Brennell recognized WW II Veterans and Diana Murphy paid tribute to the colors of our flag. Grade seven and eight band played a medley of Armed Forces on Parade, recognizing each branch of the armed forces
