The book, published by Hamilton Books, an imprint of Rowman and Littlefield, reflects the challenges Tramuto has faced throughout his life that have inspired him to succeed against all odds, beginning with the loss of his hearing as a young boy which was only partially restored years later. Tramuto illustrates how adversity can build character and highlights the events that instilled in him the drive to make the world a more fair and just place for others. “For me, the phrase ‘Bulldozer Moments’ perfectly describes the overwhelming reac-

...FAMILY from page 1 ago, about the same time she began making notes on what would become a memoir of her childhood in Guatemala City and Rome, Italy. This upbringing left her with a sense of “I’m not from here – “here being the U.S., where she was born.

~ News ~ But her genealogical research, which revealed her first ancestors coming to the U.S. from Scotland in 1654 and England in 1679, showed her just how “from here she is. Lucas realized that the stories of her ancestors needed to be included in her memoir and the result was a genealogical memoir. “The thing is, once the gene-

alogical story is learned, it simply can’t be unlearned, she says. Interviewing relatives between sips of eggnog is just the beginning. Lucas has other suggestions for those who want to explore their family histories: • Check census records. Every 10 years since 1790 the census has taken a snapshot of who’s living in the United States.

Valuable information can be found in census records, and you might even discover relatives you never heard about. • Sign up for a genealogy class. Many community colleges offer non-credit courses in genealogy that will help you understand how to research your family and interpret what you find. • Consider DNA testing. People often think they know their ethnic lineage, but discover surprises when they have a DNA test. Lucas’ DNA test revealed that she is descended not only from people who hailed from England and Scotland, but also

the Iberian Peninsula. “It also probably doesn’t hurt if you are a nerd about these things like me, Lucas says. “I found an ancestor who was involved in the Oklahoma Land Rush, so I researched that and found newspaper articles about the land rush. I think it’s important to put your family story in the historical context, especially if you plan to write a memoir. Ceil Lucas, author of “How I Got Here: A Memoir, is a sociolinguist. She holds a bachelor’s degree in French and Art History, a master’s degree in French and Italian and a doctorate in Linguistics.

...LOVELY from page 7 with our individual lives, Lovely writes in her prologue. In Part Two — Post-War England — Lovely, a fine student, shares excitement at passing the exams to study to become a teacher – and the despair she feels when her dreams are dashed. “I was all set to go to college, but my parents broke up when I was 17, so I had to give up on my dreams. I cried and cried, because I had so wanted to be a teacher, she said. She also recalls her love of dancing, boyfriends, a broken engagement to one young man and her engagement and marriage to Desmond Parker, a Methodist minister, and their life on the Shetland Islands, where their children Kathryn, 55, and Christopher, 53, were born. The family moved to Maine in the late 1960s. And here Lovely finally realized her dream

to become a teacher at age 37. “I got my degree in 1974 and taught grades 3 through 8. Whenever Desmond moved churches, I got a teaching job wherever we went, she said. She earned a master’s degree at age 50 in 1987 and completed her education career as an administrator in Maine and Connecticut. Her book, she says, has fulfilled another dream — to share her life in England with others. “I hope that through the pages that follow, the reader will taste the flavour and catch the spirit of those momentous years, she writes at the end of her prologue. Lovely is available for book signings and to talk on her years in England. She also has copies of her book available. She can be reached via e-mail at mags63@ roadrunner.com.

WELLS On November 10, a day before this year’s Veterans Day, Wells Elementary School held its annual Veteran’s Day K-4 assembly to honor local veterans and those still serving in the military. Numerous veterans attended this year’s event and were introduced and recognized before a large gathering of students and staff. First grade students, who made flags earlier to display, presented the vets with certificates of appreciation. Multi-age third/ fourth grade students presented them with personalized cards. Several guests spoke about what Veterans Day means to them including Army Major Shane

Kin Hamlyn of the Patriot Riders of America Maine Chapter 1 spoke to students about the importance the ordinary household items that they, their parents, and school staff had collected in a special collection that ended the day of the assembly. These items will be distributed to furnish housing for newly relocated homeless veterans. According to Marty Crier of WES, six pickup loads of sup-

plies, including furniture, was donated for this cause. Several members of the Patriot Riders produced a banner that was hung over the front entrance to the school, marched in the assembly and lined the hallway from the school’s gymnasium as students and veterans exited. As one might conclude, this assembly not only honors veterans but is a learning experience that aligns with the WES’s Core Values including Respect and Compassion. An important goal of the assembly is to teach students about the meaning or Veteran’s Day and why it is celebrated and observed as a national holiday. “I think it is important for the kids to get a sense of history and (understand) how we got to

~ News ~ ‘Plants Plus’ Students to Sell at Berwick Winter Farmers’ Market

BERWICK On Sunday November 20, the Berwick Winter Farmers’ Market will start a new season of farmers’ markets. Among the vendors will be students from the 'Plants Plus' Greenhouse at Sanford Regional Technical

Center School. These students, aged 14 to 18, have been involved in growing edible greens and other plants in their aquaponic system as well as in the high tunnel greenhouse and rigid greenhouse they manage. Aquaponics is a system

of farming, whereby plants are grown in water which is fertilized by the fish living in it. These nutrients help the plants grow, and then the plants purify the water. The students have become experts on this system, and are able to perform water tests and adjust water conditions based on the testing, care for the Blue Nile Tilapia living in the 800 gallon system, and safely grow and harvest plants for human consumption. Being able to bring their products to a local farmers’ market is exciting for the students. Katie Hoagland, the Plants Plus SRTC Landscaping & Horticulture teacher, says, “The students are really looking forward to the market. It’s always great to connect with the community and it gives the students a chance to work on the

face-to-face sales side of farming. “We are delighted to have this group of students at the market. Besides being thrilled to be part of their educational experience, the products they are bringing tap into range of products - things like cacti and succulent plants, terrariums, and winter bulbs - that we’ve never

had before, commented Katie Semro Berwick Winter Farmers’ Market Manager. The Ber wick Winter Farmers’ Market is held on the third Sunday of the month at Berwick Town Hall in Berwick from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There are 20 vendors selling local vegetables, meats, cheese, baked goods and more.

Nearly four times as many cooking fires occur on Thanksgiving as on a typical day. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year for families and friends to get together, but this cooking-focused holiday also presents a greater risk of home fires. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), nearly four times as

many home cooking fires occur on Thanksgiving as on a typical day. NFPA’s latest report shows that cooking is the leading cause of home structure fires and injuries in the U.S. States that reported cooking fires hit new highs in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The report further states that home cooking fires peak on

major U.S. holidays that traditionally include cooking, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. In 2014, U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated 1,730 home cooking fires on Thanksgiving, the peak day for such fires. Regardless of the date, unattended cooking is by far the leading cause of these fires and fire deaths. “The data suggests that it’s often a combination of factors that contribute to an increased risk of home cooking fires on Thanksgiving,â€? said Lorraine Carli, NFPA’s vice president of Outreach and Advocacy. “People are preparing multiple dishes for many guests and there can be plenty of distraction in the home, which can make it all too easy to forget what’s on the stove. That’s when cooking mishaps are most likely to occur.â€? The following tips can help reduce the risk of cooking fires on Thanksgiving and beyond: Stay in the kitchen when cooking to keep a close eye on the food, especially when frying and sautĂŠing with oil. ...FIRES from page 10 risk of injury, avoid cooking when drinking alcohol or if you’re sleepy. Use a timer to keep track of cooking times, most notably when cooking a meal that takes a long time like roasting a turkey, baking a roast or simmering. Check the stove or oven frequently. Consider putting timers in different rooms so you can hear them over the music and party chatter. Keep things that can catch fire like oven mitts, wooden utensils, food wrappers and towels away from the cooking area. During the five-year period of 2010-2014, U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated average of 166,100 home cooking fires per year. These fires resulted in 480 civilian deaths, 5,540 reported injuries, and $1.1 billion in direct property damage per year. Overall, cooking equipment was involved in almost half (46 per-

cent) of reported home fires and home fire injuries (44 percent) and one in five home fire deaths (19 percent). Thanksgiving is also the time when many people like to experiment with frying turkeys. NFPA discourages the use of turkey fryers, which can lead to devastating burns and other injuries, and

the destruction of property due to the large amount and high temperature of oil used. NFPA urges those who prefer fried turkey to look for grocery stores, specialty food retailers and restaurants that sell deep fried turkeys. Additional resources can be found on NFPA’s Thanksgiving webpage at www.nfpa.org.

Library Presents Father/Daughter Art Exhibition

YORK During November and December, the York Public Library is featuring “Scenes from the Backyard Revisited – Paintings by Jack Lewis and Heather Lewis. A resident of York, from the 1990s until his death in 2012, Jack Lewis made his first appearance on the art scene in Delaware with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1936. He was assigned the job of recording, in pencil on sketchpad and in paint on canvas, the daily activities of three Delaware CCC camps involved in mosquito control. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was sent to the Pacific for the duration of the war. After returning from the Pacific, Lewis received his master’s degree and began teaching art. From 1949 to 1976, he taught in Delaware schools and. continued expanding his painting oeuvre. Several published books of his artwork feature forewords by no-

table Americans, including N.C. Wyeth and Eleanor Roosevelt. Lewis's daughter Heather Lewis is an accomplished visual artist, teacher, and coach. Her life-long immersion in the arts began in Delaware observing her artist parents. Her interest progressed to formal fine art training at The Philadelphia College of Art, followed by over three decades of creating art for exhibition and sale. Passionate about

also helping others connect with their own creativity, she became a studio arts instructor and creativity coach. She has taught and conducted workshops throughout the Northeast for students from pre-school to college. The York Public Library is located at 15 Long Sands Road, York. ~ Ask The Computer Lady ~ Dear Computer Lady, I have placed a few online petitions on a couple of websites, unfortunately without success. With the petition on change.org, the website said that petitions with a picture are six times more likely to receive signatures than those without a picture. The problem is that my cellphone doesn't have a built-in camera as it is a free, government-issued cellphone. I would like to use a picture from websites that have to do with bottle/can recycling,

but I don't know if I need permission from those websites to do so. Do I? If not, where may I obtain pictures for my petition if I can't get any from my cellphone? Thank you, Joyce Dear Joyce, Yes, you would need permission to use pictures from existing websites. A better alternative would be to use a website with free, public images like openclipart.org. I just did a quick search on openclipart.org and in a few seconds found three

images that might work just fine. Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady, Thank you for all the information, you help so many! My problem is Cortana, how can I get rid of it? I don't use it and it takes up too much space to just have it hanging around. I appreciate any information you can offer. Lynda Dear Lynda, Cortana is part of Windows 10, and while it is possible to turn it off, removing it is not an option as it is built into Windows 10. The good news is that Cortana only takes up 39MB of space, so it is not going to make a difference on your hard drive. To turn Cortana off, simply follow these directions. 1. Click on the start logo on your computer, then click on the "Settings" gear. 2. Use the search box in the settings window to search for Cortana. 3. Click on "Cortana & Search Settings". 4. The first option in the Cortana and search settings is a toggle switch that will allow you to turn Cortana on or off. Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady. First of all, I wish to thank you for all the help you have provided for everyone of your

subscriber fans, including this 80-year-old man trying to keep up with the world. I recently downloaded and installed a Firefox Add-on to be able to download You Tube files to my computer. Then the problems started. Every time I searched the Web for some merchandise, "Offers4U" popped up and was telling me I could get the product cheaper at Walmart or some other vendor. This was very annoying. I didn't make the association with the problem and the Add-on. I called my IT friend and he told me to get rid of the Add-on. He had run up against the "Offers4U" before. I got rid of the Add-on and that solved the problem. My question to you is, can you recommend a program to download YouTube that is free of hidden junk-ware? Thanking you in advance for your advise. Gene Dear Gene, This is a very common problem with free software, it comes with advertising software that annoys us and slows down our systems. Sometimes all you have to do is read each screen carefully when installing a program, and uncheck the boxes that ask if you want to install other

software. Not all free programs give you that option though. A better option might be to look for inexpensive, but not free programs that will download your video. Any of the screen recorder programs will work. I have used RealPlayer to download online videos with great success. It is at www.real.com. Elizabeth Dear Computer Lady, How do you remove (get rid of) the activity log on Facebook? I enjoy playing GSN slot games often and was shocked to see it being tracked on my Facebook activity. I am fairly new to Facebook and do not appreciate this activity showing on Facebook for everyone to see. Thank you for your response, Sar Dear Sar, When you log into your account in Facebook, you can see your activity log, but you cannot view anyone elses activity log. The same thing is true for other Facebook users. They will be able to see their own activity log, but they will not be able to see yours. Here is what Facebook has to say about the activity log: "The activity log is a tool for you to review and manage what you've personally shared on Facebook and only you can see it." You can actually use your activity log to manage your timeline (which other people can see) and remove things that you don't want to be public. Elizabeth Interested in learning more? He was at peace knowing his three children were there with him. Walter was born in Boston on April 10, 1932. He grew up in the city’s South End neighborhood. in Florida, they relocated back to New England and settled in North Berwick to be near their children and grandchildren. In recent years, as Marjorie succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease, Walter was her valiant caregiver until she passed away in January of this year. Together, they shared 58 years of a loving and devoted marriage. In his early years, Walter loved boating and fishing in the Boston area. Throughout his life, he was a voracious reader and relished his New England Patriots, but above all else he was just happy to be helpful to those he loved - and to be “Papa to his grandchildren. The advice is offered in language reminiscent of sitting down with an older relative, in specific terms, from real people, not random celebrity quotes. Dr. Robin Buckley, the author of Voices, and mother of two boys

There are societal, cultural, and even biological, differences which will make many aspects of life easier for my sons than for their sisters. So I began asking the questions, ‘What do you wish you knew when you were a girl?’ or ‘What would you tell teenage girls now

On Saturday, November 26 at 8 p.m. they return to warm up the Thanksgiving holiday weekend with their accordion driven ethnic, instrumental rock, extreme polka. Gary Sredzienski & The Serfs have been delighting audiences for over 20 years with their unique blend of instruments and musical genres. What the Kids Get: Planning Your Legacy After a lifetime of working hard and saving faithfully, some people just want to enjoy retirement and spend their money without worrying about passing on anything to the next generation. But plenty of others are determined to leave a legacy – whether it’s by bequeathing a tidy sum to their children and grandchildren, or bestowing a beloved charity with a parting donation. Not everyone, though, takes the necessary steps to accomplish their goals. “Don’t assume everything you have left when you die will go to your children or to your favorite cause,” says Stephanie Fullerton, president and co-founder of Fullerton Financial Planning Group and author of “Living a Happy, Healthy and Inspired Retirement.” Taxes and other costs can eat away at your legacy. That’s why it’s important to have a financial plan in place to help make sure as much of your wealth as possible ends up in the right hands. It’s wise to seek professional advice from those who can guide you through the options, Fullerton says. Among some of the things to consider: • A will. Everyone knows about wills, at least in theory, but that doesn’t mean they take the time to visit with an attorney and have one drawn up. A Harris Poll last year reported that 64 percent of Americans don’t have wills. • An IRA. Many people think of an IRA as the nest egg that will help them survive retirement, but these accounts also are one of the largest types of assets inherited by beneficiaries. If you don’t anticipate needing your IRA money in retirement, Fullerton says, you might consider a legacy-planning strategy that will help reduce taxes and increase the payout your beneficiaries will inherit upon your death. • Trusts. There are many different types of trusts, and they can be complex to set up and execute. However, a trust can be a flexible and adSee LEGACY page 19...

BUSINESS & FINANCE McDonald’s® Announces First “Career Online High School” Graduate KITTERY The most recent graduate of McDonald’s Career Online High School (COHS) program, Joshua Dunne, comes from the restaurant located at 335 Route 1 in Kittery and his managers and co-workers are honoring this great achievement. As such, they are hosting a graduation celebration

at the restaurant on Thursday, November 17 at 4 p.m. The afternoon will include a graduation ceremony complete with cap, gown and diploma, presentations from members of the restaurant’s leadership team and, of course, cake and decorations. COHS is part of the Archways to Opportunity program

...LEGACY from page 18 vantageous means to transfer your assets in the future, Fullerton says. Most trusts also provide current benefits, such as tax-deferral and deductions. Unlike a will, a trust will avoid probate upon your death, but a trust is also more expensive to prepare. A qualified estate-planning attorney who specializes in these matters can explain more. Before you get started on a plan, Fullerton suggests thinking about what types of gifts you want to leave to others – and it doesn’t have to be just money. “It can be items you own, such as your house, a favorite work of art, special dishes used at every family gathering or a family heirloom,” she says. You don’t even have to wait until you die, Fullerton says. Experiences also can be a legacy, such as taking a special trip each year with a different grandchild to give them memories that will last not only your lifetime, but theirs as well. Stephanie Fullerton,

author of “Living a Happy, Healthy and Inspired Retirement” (www.Fullertonfp.com), is president and co-founder of Phoenix-based Fullerton Financial Planning. She and her husband, Steve, an investment adviser with Kingdom Financial Group, work together to assist clients in protecting their retirement savings and to create an income stream that will last a lifetime. She is featured on two weekly radio shows and frequently appears on local television. Investment advisory services offered through Kingdom Financial Group, LLC, an SEC Registered Investment Advisor. If you would like to run the above article, please feel free to do so. I can also provide images to accompany it. If you’re interested in interviewing Stephanie Fullerton, having her provide comments, or exclusive content, let me know and I’ll gladly work out the details. Lastly, please let me know if you’d like to receive a copy of her new book, “Living a Happy, Healthy and Inspired Retirement,” for possible review.

Health & Fitness Tips for Healthy Holidays from American Heart Assoc. As we prepare to gather with family and friends this holiday season, the American Heart Association (AHA) reminds us that we can make smart recipe substitutions to keep our holiday meals—and the people we love— healthier. Over-indulging in traditional holiday foods can add extra pounds to our waistlines, and increase our risk for obesity, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. More than 60% of Americans are overweight or obese, according to the AHA, so getting to and maintaining a healthy weight is important during the holidays

and year round. The AHA recommends making small but impactful lifestyle changes to prevent heart disease and stroke, the nation’s number one and number five killers. Studies show that more than 80% of heart disease can be prevented with simple lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, exercising 30 minutes most days of the week and eating healthier. The American Heart Association says the first step is to determine your daily calorie intake with an app or online calculator, then adjust your daily calories into the healthy range. A good place to start is by eating more fruits and vegetables which are low in calories and high in nutrition.

“Many of the traditional foods served during the holidays can be healthy – the trick is to not load on the butter, sodium and sugar, said Lori A. Kaley, MS, RDN, LD, MSB, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. “Add color and nutrition to your plate with seasonal squash, roasted vegetables and fruit-based desserts. All of the holiday parties and dinners can throw off your healthy lifestyle goals. The American Heart Association is offering its annual Holiday Healthy Eating Guide to help people navigate the holiday season in a healthy way. Weekly Recipe: Tomato-Summer or Zucchini Squash Casserole As the gardening season begins to come to an end, let" s take advantage of the remaining summer or zucchini squash in our garden as long as it continues to be productive. This is a wonderful vegetable dish your family and friend will love and when your garden in " nished, you can use squash from the grocery store from southern states to recreate this recipe. Use either summer or zucchini squash but don" t mix the two varieties.

Ingredients: 3- 10 to 12-inch squash, peeled 1 tablespoon of salt ½ cup of general purpose white " our 1 cup of olive oil or even better Truf" e oil ž Pound of thinly sliced Mozzarella cheese 3 medium size red onions, peeled and thinly sliced 6 of the biggest or 10 medium RIPE tomatoes, peeled, and coarsely chopped 1 Tablespoon of " nely chopped fresh Basil 1 Tablespoon of " nely chopped fresh thyme 1 tablespoon of white sugar Ÿ teaspoon of Allspice 1/3 cup of fresh grated or packaged Parmesan cheese

Directions: 1} Peel and cut your squash into ½ inch

slices. Place on paper towels and sprinkle with salt and let stand for about 15 minutes. Blot the moisture on the squash to remove excess moisture. Dust lightly both sides of the squash with your " our and saut" in ž cup of oil until both sides are golden brown. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. 2} Cover the bottom of your casserole dish with a layer of squash slices. Next cover the squash with your slices of Mozzarella cheese and then another layer of squash and cheese, leaving gaps between the slices of cheese so the tomato mixture can penetrate the layers. 3] Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Fill a medium pot half full of water and bring to a boil. Drop in your tomatoes and when they begin to crack their skin, remove from the hot water, and place in cold water to stop the cooking and peel. Coarsely chop and put to one side. 4}Heat the remaining oil in a fry pan and saut" the thinly slices onion rings until transparent. Add your tomatoes, basil, thyme, sugar, and allspice and cook over medium heat until slightly thickened. Ladle the tomato mixture over the squash and top with Parmesan cheese, and bake, covered for 25 minutes so all the " avors blend together. Remove the cover and brown under the broiler for a couple of minutes. Serve hot and add a bit more parmesan cheese if you like, and have your family salt and pepper to taste. Serves 6 to 8 people. Enjoy!

The first $3,380 grant was awarded to Central School 2nd Grade teacher Pam Mulcahey ...ACAR from page 30 favorites along of course with bouncy balls. Puppy is house-trained, is current on vaccinations, neutered and micro chipped. We would like to thank Jeanette Lebel of Lebel’s Dog Grooming in Wells for giving Puppy his first schnauzer haircut. She was very patient with him and he did well. Puppy will need training‌ he is a smart little guy, very food oriented and should train easily. He will need a fenced in yard, plenty of toys, yummy food and of course tons of kisses! Puppy will do well with older children, other dogs, cats are unknown. If you would like to meet Puppy, please call his Foster Mom Debby at 207-676-9330 Wednesday-Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. - noon. We are hoping Puppy finds his new home in time for the Holidays!

...HAVEN from page 30 and saved 35 precious lives in northern Maine that would have perished had we not. Now we’re looking at the end of the year. We know our fuel costs and utilities will increase and our income will decrease, because our store, like so many in Maine, is highly seasonal. Our cat food and litter supplies are often depleted. One kitty, OJ, will need eye surgery and ongoing care. That’s about $1,000. Lizzy needs a radioiodine treatment ($1,300). Several older kitties also need tests and expensive diagnostics this winter. And to add to the financial challenge, our mortgage is due on January 1. Facing great challenges is

The second grant, in the amount of $5,100, was awarded to Diane Reppucci at Eliot Elementary to fund "Local Stories", an integrated arts project that combines local history, research and community collaboration to create a mural that documents and preserves the stories of Eliot. Two artists-in-residence from "Local Stories" will work with all 2nd grade students to help them conduct interviews, research and investigations to create a school mobile mural and a live theater performance. MEF congratulates both of our Fall Grant Recipients!

SPORTS Warriors Lend A Hand off the Field WELLS Organizers of the most recent All-4-Kids Consignment Sale at Wells Elementary School had a few extra hands helping them set up for their October 15 sale of children’s clothing and other items. It turned out that the entire Wells High School Warriors Football Team showed up at the WES gymnasium the day before the sale to do some community service by helping set up. “We were asked by Pam Lear (PTSA co-President) if we could help set up,” commented Wells Warriors Coach Tim Roche recently. “It was game day and we had to catch the bus but,

according to Pam, we saved them a ton of time.” The Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) for Wells Elementary School has been sponsoring and organizing this event since the fall of 2006. According to sale organizer and PTSA member Margaret Borkowski, this bi-annual sale has raised over $50,000 during the sale’s 10 year existence. With funds generated from events like this, the PTSA is able to sponsor large annual events at WES including Colors Day and Starz for Broadway. PTSA money is also granted to teachers for requested classroom items.

Warriors Football Takes Down Undefeated Cape Elizabeth WELLS On Saturday, November 12, the Wells Warriors football team beat undefeated Cape Elizabeth by a score of 27-14, winning the Class C South

Championship game. Next up is the State Championship Game (Class C) vs. Mt. Desert Island at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland this Saturday, November 19 at 2:30 p.m.

SCOREBOARD Berwick Academy

Girls' Varsity Soccer Wednesday, Nov 9 Berwick 3, Concord 2 The Bulldogs traveled to Concord, MA to take on Concord Academy in their last regular season game of the season and came a way with a 3-2 win. The Bulldogs didn't have the best first half but were able to keep play in the Concord defensive end, and went to half time up 1-0. In the 12th minute Annie Vatcher (Kennebunk, ME) broke through the right side after Aaliyah Farid (Hampton, NH) played a great ball to the corner and Annie turned the corner and drove a beautiful cross across the box and Christine Gardella (Haver-

hill, MA) got the only goal of the half. Rayne Zimmermann (Exeter, NH) almost got the Bulldogs a second goal in the 35th minute when she caught the goalie off her line. The Bulldogs lacked some energy in the start of the second half, but Rayne Zimmermann (Exeter, NH) got the Bulldogs their second goal with an amazing shot from distance in the 48th minute. Concord wasn't going to give up that easily and earned two quick goals to tie the game 2-2, but Berwick rallied back in the 70th minute with a goal from Rayne Zimmermann (Exeter, NH) off an amazing cornerkick from Christie Sullivan (Stratham, NH). Sullivan, Zimmermann, Tess Varley (Portsmouth, NH), Kenza Farid (Hampton, NH), Adara Groman (Stratham, NH), Abby Reed (Dover,

NH), and Vanessa Leavitt (Haverhill, MA) all played well defensively, particularly in the second half. Daisy Aromando (Ogunquit) relieveved Zimmermann in net and had a solid 55 minutes in goal with some key saves to help earn the Bulldogs the win. The girls varsity soccer team finished the regular season 12-5-1 and will be the #3 seed in the Eastern Independent League Tournament at Pingree School on 11/12 and play the #2 seed Concord Academy. The winner will face the winner of the #1 Pingree vs #4 Newton Country Day. Statistical Summary: 12th Gardella from Vatcher/Farid, 48th Zimmermann, 70th Zimmermann from Sullivan, Zimmermann 25mins 0GA, Aromando 55mins 2GA.
