YORK First Parish Church in York Village invites the community to join them on a “Journey to Bethlehem, rain or shine, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20. Travel in the comfort of your warm car through a candlelit landscape of seven tableaus depicting the Christmas story beginning with the Angel Gabriel’s announcement to Mary that she would bring forth a son to Jesus’ birth in Bethlehem while shepherds and angels kept watch. According to Janet Cassidy, who along with husband Larry, brought the idea of a drivethrough nativity to First Parish

and have served as chairs for 6 years, “It’s a story of love, hope, joy and peace. It has become a tradition not only for those who visit, but also for the more than 130 volunteers who have made and distributed costumes and props, built and assembled sets, strung lights, shared their livestock, provided pots of soup, lit luminaries and offered storage space. Not surprisingly, all would agree that their gift to the community is also a gift to themselves. “It puts the meaning back into Christmas. No entrance fee or donations are requested. For more information, call 207-363-3758 or visit www.firstparishyork.net.
