INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE THESIS 2014, KMITL
T
he Hi-end Luxur y Hideaway resor t for people who need to escape from their busy life and for people who want to spend their time relaxing and being close to nature. The resor t is located far away from the city and surrounded by peaceful forest, lake and high mountains. Cellular signal is not available in all area. The access way to the resor t are only by amphibian aircraft , helicopter and boat. Guest who would like to spend their time here must purchase accommodation program, which are relaxing or adventure program, in advance. Two courses have different activities but all highlights, such as spa program and bonfire dinner, are included. Private butler is also provided or all guests. The resor t plan is organized by using small buildings connected to each others by road. Resor t Areas consist of Pier, Bar&Lounge, Restaurants, Obser vator y, Garden, Spa and residential area.Main conceptual design idea is“Lanna’s Tradition and Custom”. Each area is designed and decorated by tradition that goes well together. By studying tradition and modernizing, the resor t interior design comes out in luxur y contemporar y style that contain old-custom and traditional ar t in ever ywhere. Therefore, guests are absolutely able to learn and experience Lanna’s tradition and customs throughout a year by spending their wonderful time in the resor t just for few days.

Resort Location ARAYANA hideaway is located on a hill in the valley of Doi Tao lake and mountains 110 kilometers away from Chiang Mai city. The site is surrounded by calm DoiTao lake and peaceful forest. Many kinds of animals live in the area.
Getting to the Resort Instead of driving for 2 hours from city to the resor t, Arayana is proud to present the ultra-luxur y air taxi ser vice. Cessna 208 amphibian aircraft, which is able to land on both land and water, takes only 30 minutes to fly between resor t and city airpor t. Picturesque landscape of ChiangMai city, rice fields, farmer towns and mountains can be seen from above. This elegant ser vice is enjoyed by all guests since it’s included in all accommodation packages.

the Pier The Pier is the place of guests arrivals and depar ture. It’s like door to the resor t. The design is inspired by Lanna city gate and wall. The gate that always open for visitors. The wall that protect city from enemy and strangers. the large pot on the center of the builing means welcome and blessing in Lanna tradition.

Breeze Bar & Lounge Connected to the townsquare and chapel, the Breeze Bar is like the townhall of the resor t. Guests usually spend most time of a day at this p lac e . T he d e c o r atio n is ins p ire d by Chiang Mai old town, so the combination of brickwall, stone tile, ponds and trees is used. The bar is inspired by “Nahmton� which is Lanna traditional personal water storage. Private sunkens with bean bags and little fireplace are specially designed for most comfor table and relaxing moment.

Breakfast Restaurant The breakfast restaurant ser ves healthy o r ganic cu i s i n e . G u e s t s a re tre ate d specially by chef. Star t with har vesting crops from the resor t’s farm to cooking in the o p e n k i t ch e n . De c o r atio n i s inspired by MaeJam’s unique Chunlakatin festival. The restaurant is divided into 3 areas to represent house, rice field and temple.

YEEPENG finedining The restaur ant ser ves Lanna fusion cuisine . There are 3 zones- Bonfire bar, indoor dining and Canal outdoor dining. Yee-Peng dining restaurant is decorated by concept “Yee-peng festival”, Lanna’s fullmoon festival. Bonfire bar features seating area that surround the bonfire. Interior planing is set in row-style. The dining furnitures are elevated platform which are inspired by the antique chair. Outdoor dining is decor ated to be sunken style . The sunken area’s shape is inspired by the antique boat.

spa The spa area is located in the valley surrounded by peaceful forest. Arayana spa landscape design is inspired by “sorceror village”. The spa entrance is like town-gate. The lobby is like town hall, Spa villas are like folks’ houses and yoga sala is built like crops storage. There are 6 spa villas. Each villa has private Sauna, Steam room, jacuzzi and treatment area. The design inside villa is inspired by the ancient bir th tradition. Interior layout and decorations are believed that they could protect the baby from bad spirits. High ceiling building covered with thatched roof gives Thai-folk lifestyle feeling and also help user to feel relaxed.

Residential Villas All residential Villas are private pool villa that was built on a mountain slope. All villas feature huge bathroom with outdoor shower, terrace, sala and infinity edge pool. The design is inspired by combination of Lanna house and western cabin..

Lanna’s decorative elements were simplified and blend with modern western vacation house style. Layout planing was set using building’s center line. This make the final layout to have symmetrically balance which make the design luxur y and grand.

Stars Iconic Business Hotel which locates on the bank of Chaophraya river, the most impor tant river of Thailand. It’s designed by using the concept of “Bangkok Charisma” to represent charm of Bangkok which consists of variety of cultures and tradition from Thai and other countries.
He al t h St u di o The fitness center design is inspired by Bangkok’s traffic at night time. Moving lights from vehicles on the road make this big city lively all the time. These lines also mean speed and activeness of people. Transformed into design, the traffic lines are used as lighting fixtures and wall decoration.

HU L U R e s ta u r a nt HULU Chinese restaurant is inspired by charm of Bangkok China town. One kind of store that has a ver y unique character is Chinese traditional pharmacy. Dark color scheme, shiny brass and hundreds of drawers are just magnificent. Therefore, these elements are used to create this elegant Chinese restaurant. HULU name comes rom one of impor tant Chinese herb.

Civ i l i z e d spa Spa is one of the highlight place of this hotel. The design concept is “secret-cave�. Users will experience amazingly calm atmosphere. Tropical natural material, lighting design and decoration are designed to make the room to have calm and relaxing atmosphere. Floor is made using natural stone which has natural texture. The wall is made by push and pull square grid. Candle light is also used as decorative light because of its glamorous effect to shiny material.

or tnum & Mason is a depar tment store based in central London. It is recognised internationally for its high quality products and as an iconic British symbol.
In this project, For tnum & Mason store is opened in Gateway Ekkamai depar tment store in Bangkok. The design is inspired by English Luxur y masion in the countr yside. Retail shop that sells tea, biscuits and hampers is located on the main floor. English tea salon is on the mezzanine.
O v erv i ew Shop approach way is inspired by mansion’s great room. Checker pattern is used for the floor. Walls are painted in blue-green color which is F&M identity color. Cur ved mezzanine and cur ved stairs give welcoming and friendly mood.

Fire place In many culture, including English, fireplace is believed to be hear t of the house. This fireplace is decorated with dark color wood to stand out from its surroundings.
F&M Tea S al o n The tea salon is on the mezzanine. F&M special English tea, High tea and assor ted desser t are ser ved. Low ceiling gives atmosphere of living in the mansion’s living room. White and red classic chairs are used to give variation of color.

kinawa is a prefecture located at the southernmost of Japan. There are 1.42 million people living, which include both local people and American soldiers. 7 million tourists visit Okinawa island ever y year. Okinawa has ver y high impor t and expor t rate since it’s small island. Many local products such as fr uits are expor ted to Japan. However, there is no place that is built mainly for international trade . Trader s have to search products they want in the local markets which is not convenient.

New market for Okinawa needs to be better than traditional markets which is small, dir ty and products are hard to find. Therefore, new market is designed to serve future needs. The location is set in the city center near transpor tation hub and tourist spot. this new architecture include por t, tour ist center, office and retail market.

New design must be able to solve traditional style market’s problem. The architecture design concept comes from “Ocean wave”. Shops are set on the steps, so they are ver y easy to be seen. New trading method is used according to new buyers’ behavior. People spend more time on smar t phone and internet. Products in this market are registered on the server and can be ordered online. Merchants can send goods to customer by using the automatic conveyor system that connect every shop to Drive-Thru pick-up service. The building is built over the road to use surroundings as part of the architecture. Drivers in the tunnel are able to see inside via glass panels.

world. For years, huge amount of CO2 has been emitted, power usage is going higher and higher. Architects play an impor tant role in environtment care since they are creator. Good architecture must be suitable for its location’s climate, use less power, use green material and user friendly. This Architect firm designs GREEN architecture so their workplace needs to show their style. The concept is to make the area that use benefit from natural light and ventilation and use local materials as much as possible.

Direc t o r Offi c e Furniture organization is set to allow natural light and wind to come inside. Decorations and some furnitures are custom-made by using local material. Bookshelf is built by using wood, steel and local contrete blocks. Ceiling is stained with dark color to make it disappear, so user will not feel that the ceiling is pressing thir head. The ceiling is also decorated using traditional car t wheels with lamps.

DIRECTOR OFFICE Director office of KingMongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL). It’s the place to welcome guests and VIPs who come to visit the director or attend a conference. Therefore, nice and beautiful office is suitable for the director’s rank.
The area consists of 6 zones, Lobby, Conference room, director’s office, living room, pantr y and office. Simply but stylish modern-classic design makes the room grand and elegant as it is the place for the university’s director.
D IR E C TO R ’ S O F F IC E Long and wide room makes ceiling look lower and not comfor table. These problems are solved by using ver tical lines, floor patterns and full-height doors and windows. The decoration is made in modern classic style with shades of grey color as requested by the owner.

DIRE CTOR’S LIVING ROO M The living room is designed to be calm and elegant. Color scheme are grey and brown. Sofa’s color is chosen to be different and eye-catching. Glossy material, such as leather and metal, makes the room elegant.

L O BBY & C O N F E R E N C E RO O M Lobby is designed to be most simple among all areas. The reception counter is designed to be most eye-catching by using black and white color and reflective material. Wall panels are kept in modern-classic but redesigned to be more simple.

Conference room is designed to have flow of space to the lobby. Hence, glass wall is used and wall is decorated with grey panels from inside the room to outside in the lobby. This room is designed to have more modern look but keeping some classic style feeling.

armony academy of music is classical and contemporar y music school. The design concept is to make contemporar y style that has charm of European classic era. The design inspiration comes from “cur ve of music”. The layout plan shape is inspired by cur ve of a string instument.

Color scheme is designed to have shades of white, brown and black, which is like in European mansion. Walls are decorated using wave texture, which is inspired by sound wave.

CH INO K IT C HEN Chino-Por tuguese colonial style architectures are one of Phuket’s unique identities. The charming thing is it’s a well combination of Chinese and European style. This kitchen design concept is to make modern simply kitchen that has Chino character.

The design is modern with simply lines but has got the eye-catching Chino-por tuguese legs. Cabinet door and counter top is made of Cotto special porcelain. Refridgerator is installed inside tall cabinet. Kitchen wall material is stained glass. The glass is easy to clean and also add color to the room.
COTTO DESIGN CONTEST
B AK ERY K I OS K BREAD BRASSERIE CHIANG MAI The design concept is “fresh baker y from organic farm”. The kiosk design is inspired by farm cottage. Counters are design using European element. Bread shelf is made of cast iron and wood. The most bottom rack of the shelf is for pot herb, which can be used for baking ingredient also.
Gable roof with glass window on both sides let heat from the oven go out and make it look like cottage. Side doors are bi-fold type and front door is pull-down type. All neccessar y appliances such as oven, refridgerator, beverage-show fridge are designed to fit the place eventhough kiosk’s size is small.

P18 art center 4th YEAR INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE CLASS PROJECT Petchburi 18 district is one of the abandoned site where graffiti ar tists usually come to create their works. However, this kind of work hasn’t beed accepted by most Thai people because they think that only bad teenagers do it. The P18 ar t district is the project that will change the image of street ar t. The existed building will be restored to be a street ar t center.

The design concept is “ART INVADE” the architecture is designed to look like it’s being invaded from ar tworks in the area. Ground floor of the building is the area graffiti ar tists used to create their works. Librar y and cafe are on the first floor. Second floor, as shown on the pictures, is the area for ar t exhibition. Second floor is a place for ar t talk and ar t studio for rent.

In the past, flying speed and passenger capacity are what aircraft company most concern. Boeing 787, the mid-size aircraft manufactured by Boeing, is the first aircraft that is designed with all-new concept which has changed the world of aircraft design. The 787 are designed to emit less polution, be fuel-efficient and user-friendly. The 787 is the aircraft of the dream and That’s why people call him “DREAMLINER”.
This exhibition let audience to know more about the 787. Histor y and stor y of 787 concept are introduced in “time tunnel” room. Manufacturing process and the use of new composite material are in “Factor y Tour” room. Aircraft design and performance are in “Performance” room. Finally, let’s go flying in the interior mock-up room. See all new technology and see pilots while they are landing the plane.

Users can learn about all-new composite material that is used to make the aircraft body. See interesting statistic such as how long all electrical wires are in one aircraft. Tr y to design 787’s paint via computer system.

Large trees are grown. Small grass are grown on walkway ,bike parking area and decoration area. Large walkway is good for students to walk. LED lighting and solar-powered lamp are used to minimize power usage.
