Section A
Solution
Guided by the concept of “unravelling, our team of three students designed a center in which the healing garden was the focal point of the architecture. The wood wall immediately surrounding the garden is fragmented by narrow, vertical glass panels to provide glimpses into the garden. The garden itself has two levels; one private level reserved for those seeking counseling, and one public for those visiting the building. The building itself is composed entirely of recycled wood and smart glass. Public offices and education rooms face the street while private counseling rooms are sited far from the street. My responsibility on this project was to develop the garden design and building form.

Solution
3/8" Steel Angle Diamond Pier
Our team of three students developed a bridge design composed of structural members angled at 30 degrees. This 30 degree angle corresponded with the 30 degree angle of the boardwalk decking design to be built just beyond the bridge. On this collaborative effort, my responsibility was to develop a rail design to pair with the structure. I also developed several of the final construction documents for the project.

Problem
As a team, layout, design, and build an Education Garden for the South Carolina Agricultural Museum in Pendleton, South Carolina.
Solution
My responsibility was to lead the team in the design and layout of the raised vegetable beds. We incorporated chalkboards in the bed design to create an interactive component for the children visiting the garden. The chalkboards would identify the vegetables in the FINAL BOLLARD FINAL DESIGN BOLLARD DESIGN beds and provide a place for children to draw the vegetables they see.

Problem
Design a multicultural center on a site of your choice within Clemson University’s Trustee Park. This “center” should ignite meaningful discussion and encourage conversation on the multicultural issues currently rising on campus. Table to Movable Seating
Detail
Solution
I designed a root sculpture lining the axial sidewalk connecting Tillman Hall on the North and Riggs Hall on the South. The wood sculpture represents the roots of Clemson University - beginning with its founders and continuing into the present. Those who might not be considered “roots” but who were still important to Clemson’s history, including the African American plantation slaves and convicts who built the campus, are paid tribute through a beautiful Green and Gold groundcover, planted at the base of the root sculpture. To engage the community and student body in conversation and increase their awareness of important people in Clemson’s history, the sculpture is designed to be decorated by different groups on campus and in the community on a monthly basis to commemorate important persons in Clemson’s history.

Problem
Design a Japanese teahouse and garden in the South Carolina Botanical Garden to hold the traditional Japanese tea ceremony and provide guests a space for quiet repose and self-reflection. a
Solution
The tea house design is informed by both the site and by Japanese tradition. On the site the presence and verticality of the pine trees is incredibly dominant and establishes a sense of stability and strength within the landscape. To emphasize that verticality and sense of stability, the tea house design is composed of vertical concrete forms. Since timber construction is a Japanese tradition, the formwork used to create the vertical pillars is made of wood to imprint the wood grain on the concrete. The garden design is limited to a palette of greens and white because Japanese tradition favors rich textures and forms to variety in color.

Open, active recreational spaces lie along Saluda Street where town parades conclude. This space accommodates children’s games and provides a place for community members to gather and watch Chester’s annual parades. In the center of the park is a splash pad for the children to enjoy. Problem
To revitalize street-life along Martin Luther King Way in Seneca, South Carolina, plan an outdoor exhibit to showcase sculptures designed by artists from the city of Seneca and from the state of South Carolina.
Solution
The outdoor sculpture exhibition space celebrates the talent of Seneca’s local artists as well as the state’s artists. Pedestrians and bikers alike may view the majority of these sculptural displays when they travel along the shared bike and pedestrian shared bike and pedestrian loop (white path). Pedestrians looking to engage the artwork more closely and discover other hidden, sculptures may step off the main path onto one of the secondary pedestrian trails (gray paths).
