The holidays are right around the corner, and that means it’s time to start planning your Christmas treats and delights. Quite frankly, there is no Christmas like an Italian Christmas. Italian holiday foods are the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season and feed all of your hungry guests! If you are looking to add a new dish to your holiday menu, why not make it Italian? Below you will find a few traditional Italian holiday foods that are all simply delicious.


Capitone For those who really want to step out of their comfort zones, try capitone- female eel. Eel isn’t something we see too often in traditional American cooking, but just because something is different, don’t be afraid to try it! Capitone is traditionally found in Sothern Italy and families roast and bake the eel on Christmas Eve.


Lasagna You couldn’t get more a more classic Italian dish than Lasanga. A hearty lasagna with Bolognese sauce and Béchamel is a fan favorite among many, best of all it is designed to feed a crowd.


Pasta In Brodo

A typical dish that you can find in both the north and south of Italy is the pasta in broth. This dish appeals to holiday guests of all ages. The types of pasta can vary from classic tortellini to noodles similar to spaghetti. While the pasta broth is typically made from the juices of large pieces of meat.


Pandoro and Panettone We couldn’t forget about dessert! It isn’t an authentic Italian Christmas without Pandoro and Panettone. No matter what region of Italy you go to, you will find both of these Italian cakes on the table. Pandoro is a Christmas cake that originates from Verona and dates back as far as the 18th century. You will find that the sweet bread is yellow on the inside and dusted with icing sugar. If you have a sweet-tooth, try eating it stuffed with cream or chocolate. Panettone, on the other hand, is a Milanese cake. In Italian culture, it is one of the truest symbols of Christmas in Italy. You will find that the cake is sweet and soft. Inside you will find that it is stuffed with raisins and other candied fruit.
