God And Country Event To The Editor: There are many issues to write about, like Chris Sununu bashing Trump and other Republicans at an event in DC a few days ago or some other Republican calling Free Staters and Liberty minded people Extremist. So, here’s a bit of Hope. On April 23rd will be an event celebrating God and Country and to support the NH Veterans and fighting Human Trafficking in NH (yes, sadly, believe it or not it is happening here in our state). For details go to the website GodandCountryNH.org. Hope to see you all there and let’s have an evening of celebration. John Sellers Bristol, NH.

How They Did It In Croydon

up with a cost for each student to send them to the school of their choice from that list Then they applied these specific costs to each student in the Croydon NH school system based on their specific needs and came up with a total cost to send every student in Croydon to the school of their choice. This specific, targeted budget was the number that was used for the school budget. The rationale was that if the finest schools in the area can operate with tuition like that, the public school should be able to match those levels. At present there are no plans to send Croydon students to private schools. All Croydon students will attend Croydon public schools with the new lower school budget being used. Edward W. Smith Concord, NH.

To The Editor: Here is the backstory on how the Croydon, NH school budget was formulated. The budget is in the news as it is one half the budget requested by the school board and passed over their objections. While the budget that passed appears arbitrary it was prepared with rigorous research and planning. This is how the budget was arrived at. Taxpayers and parents researched the cost of sending a student to private schools in the area such as general education, arts schools, trade schools, etc, and of course special education schools. Then they added in transportation costs and came

Democrat Party Policies To the Editor: Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine and slaughter of the Ukrainian people were enticed by traditional Democrat Party policies that make the world more dangerous and watered, fertilized, and facilitated by President Biden’s policies and actions. Biden’s incompetent abandonment of Afghanistan alerted aggressor nations, weakness invites aggression. President Biden’s anti American oil actions greatly increased Putin’s profits which funded Putin’s invasion of the Ukraine. Biden’s weak response to Pu-

tin’s military buildup on the Ukrainian border encouraged Putin. Biden promised his sanctions would deter Putin’s invasion, they didn’t. Biden’s subsequent sanctions haven’t stopped the slaughter of Ukrainian civilians and haven’t hurt Putin. Biden denied Ukrainian President Zenenskyy’s defensive weapons requests, e.g., for Harpoon, anti-ship, missiles and old Mig29s, which could have saved thousands of lives. Biden was finally embarrassed into ending the Russian oil imports needed to backfill the American production that Biden shutdown…after 45 more days. Imports of Russian uranium continue. Biden has Russia negotiating a renewed Iran deal (which richly rewards Russia) which will instigate a Middle-East nuclear arms race. Biden’s sanctions hurt the Russian people, but Biden is more rewarding than punishing Putin. President Obama stopped delivery of missile defenses to Eastern Europe scheduled by President Bush in response to Russia’s invasion of Georgia. Obama sent blankets, not weapons when Putin invaded and took the Crimea. Perhaps this is what Obama meant when he told Russian President Medvedev to tell Putin that he would have more flexibility after his 2012 re-election. Obama allowed China to build islands in the South China Sea with which to project power and claim other nations’ territory. Obama’s actions encouraged the growth of ISIS, the overthrow of See MAILBOAT on 28

Snow Is In The Rearview Mirror! The forecast is for rain and more rain. It really is Spring now. Snow is behind us. I never made it to Tuckerman Ravine before the Sherburne Trail melted out. This means if we were to go we would have to walk back down instead of being able to ski back to the parking lot. Oh but I was at Killington a few days ago and they were 50%

open and there was 30 feet of snow on their epic Superstar Trail. The snow on the trail is referred to as the Superstar Glacier. It isn’t unusual for the slope to be open until June. Killington provides lift serviced skiing and snowboarding on the glacier until every flake melts. Bretton Woods, Cannon and Wildcat’s last day open was April

Create Your Own Dreamcatcher At Canterbury Shaker Village

On Saturday, April 30, from 2 – 3:30pm, create your own dreamcatcher in the Ojibway web tradition under the tutelage of Native American artist Lenny Novak at Canterbury Shaker Village . Novak has given classes for more than 40 years at museums, schools, and requested locations both indoors and out. After sharing a bit of history about the dreamcatcher – its meaning, stories, and lore – he then gently guides participants through the process of working with their materials – natural wood hoops, webbing, beads, and feathers. To honor his own heritage and the Native American custom of gifting, Novak donates his time and materials to teach Dreamcatcher-making to nonprofits having to do with nature, Natives, and community. Novak’s work can be seen in the Mount Kearsage Indian Museum in Warner, NH, has been exhibited by the Great Plains Museum in Lincoln, NE; was part of the Contemporary Native American Artists of the 21st Century Exhibition in Springfield, MA; and was donated to the permanent collection of the Cherokee County History Museum in Canton, GA. Cost for this “Dreamcatcher” workshop is $40, $25 for Village members. All materials are provided and all proceeds will benefit Canterbury Shaker Village. Register at www.shakers.org. Live Free or Die.

*A FLATLANDER’S OBSERVATIONS ON LIFE

Central Baptist Church of Gilford, NH Independent, KJV

Still Trying It has been awhile since I have submitted any new scratch ticket ideas to the New Hampshire Lottery Commission. Back in the by Brendan Smith l a t e 1 9 9 0 s , Weirs Times Editor long before we went from Homo Sapiens walking around standing upright to Homo Sapiens once again walking hunched over as we stare at our smart phones, I came up with the idea for a scratch ticket called “Pot Holes and Frost Heaves” which the Commission asked my permission to use and I agreed. They even sent me two free tickets which, of course, reaped no reward for me. The sudden celebrity that this brought upon me was unexpected. Not only was my scratch ticket idea helping raise important funds for education, but it was also helping the then fledgling convenience store industry as folks flocked to them to buy this great new ticket, picking up a few other items during their visit. Avid scratch ticket buyers recognized me on the street and even on the sidewalk. Of course, fame is always fleeting, and that recognition only lasted for a few weeks as someone else’s ticket idea hit the stores and they now reaped the rewards of fame. I did try my best at coming up with some new ideas, but none seemed to make the cut. In 2016 I poked fun at their foray into more interactive tickets when they released their “Smells Like Bacon’’ ticket which when scratched actually smelled like the popular breakfast meat. Even though it was not my idea, they sent me two free tickets anyway just to show me they were paying attention and, once again, I won nothing, but I must

entral Baptist hurch

admit the tickets were delicious on my turkey sandwich. I even came up with some good ideas during the pandemic including the “Keep Your Distance and Strike It Rich” ticket which I thought would be popular since it not only would help bring needed funds into the system, but would also assist in keeping the spread of the virus in check. I never heard back from the Commission. But I haven’t given up hope, I am still working on some new ideas so I can once again raise my status among my scratch ticket peers. So here are some new ideas I have developed. Let’s see what happens. As we become more environmentally conscious, I feel that a scratch ticket that actually doesn’t exist would be a great idea. It could be called “Saving The Planet” or maybe for those folks with a more dire outlook the “What Are You Saving Your Money For The Planet Only Has Five Years Left Anyway” scratch ticket. (Perhaps they get AOC or Greta Thunberg to do some ads for it.) How this would work is you would simply go to the convenience store, give the cashier your money and then they would press a button which would instantly announce “winner’ or “loser.” With no physical tickets in play there would be less waste and would also cut down on “Scratcher’s Wrist” which comes from scratching too many tickets and is a widely ignored but serious ailment that afflicts more than you might think. Another idea I had was inspired by the “Smells Like Bacon” tickets. How about a ticket that smells like nothing? At least that is the way it would be promoted. This ticket would be a great attraction in the summertime to vacationers who are coming to New Hampshire from

big, smelly cities who rarely get the chance to smell “nothing.” Of course, once they get to their lakefront destinations and some real fresh air, the lure of smelling nothing will lose its appeal after a few days, so it is important to sell these tickets only at the northbound welcome centers. As they load up on cheap booze for the week, a giant display of “Smells Like Nothing” scratch tickets could be on display as they wait at the checkout. With gas prices soaring, why not a scratch ticket related to that. It could be called “Are You Full Of Gas?” Players can buy scratch tickets that cost anywhere from a dollar to twenty dollars. Scratch three like prices and pay that per gallon at your next fill up. Of course, the dollar tickets would only take off about five to ten cents per gallon for winning tickets, while the twenty-dollar tickets could give you two free fill-ups. This ticket will certainly appeal to the more casual players, or even those who never play, helping to get more players hooked. I have a lot of other great ideas, like a scratch ticket based on the what the latest Covid variant is that week, a game that could be played for decades, but I don’t want to give up all my ideas yet. Let’s see how these go first. I know that the Lottery Commission is paying attention and I give them permission to use any of my great ideas. They don’t even have to send me any sample tickets to show their appreciation. I never win anything on them anyway. Brendan is the author of “The Flatlander Chronicles” and “Best Of A F.O.O.L. In New Hampshire” and “I Only Did It For The Socks Stories & Thoughts On Aging” . All are available at BrendanTSmith. com.

Beware The ‘Paper Shortage’ Election Ruse In the fall of 2020, I warned repeatedly on social media, TV and in my syndicated column about the Zuckerberg Heist -- Silicon Valley’s hijacking of our election system through a private nonprofit called the Center for Tech and Civic Life. CTCL was funded by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, to the by Michelle Malkin tune of $350 million. Election informationrigging Google joined as a top corporate Syndicated Columnist partner, along with the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Democracy Fund (founded by Never Trumper billionaire and eBay former chairman Pierre Omidyar). CTCL created a “COVID-19 Response Grant Program” to “provide funding to U.S. local election offices” that steered voters toward insecure, fraud-vulnerable alternatives to traditional voting. The Amistad Project led the way in exposing how CTCL’s “dark money network pumped hundreds of millions of dollars into local election systems using the COVID pandemic as a pretense.” And as I noted at the time, the scamdemic and performative lockdowns provided a handy ruse to sabotage our regular Election Day experience through less transparent, more manipulable absentee and vote-bymail mechanisms. Now states and localities are finally bringing the hammer down on ZuckerBucks. Mississippi banned private donations for public voting operations last week, joining more than a dozen other states. Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin have similar ZuckerBuck bans pending. Also last week, a Louisiana appellate court reinstated the state Attorney General Jeff Landry’s lawsuit against CTCL for illegal, unconstitutional funding of elections flowing into government coffers “in the darkness of night,” as he told The Federalist. Indeed, the title of a new documentary on CTCL by Citizens United released this week says it all: “Rigged.” “Do you believe they used the COVID emergency as an excuse to pull (off) this partisan voter turnout operation?” Citizens United’s president David Bossie asks former President Donald Trump in the documentary trailer. “Am I allowed to give you a one-word answer?” Trump asks. “Yes.” If you’re a conservative, speaking these truths will get you branded a “conspiracy See MALKIN on 38

The Left Is The Culture War Aggressor Last week, reporter Christopher Rufo released footage of top Disney employees vowing to inject their radical LGBTQ agenda into children’s programming. Disney producer Latoya Raveneau told an all-hands meeting by Ben Shapiro Syndicated Columnist that her team works to push a “not-at-allsecret gay agenda” in programming aimed at kids and sought to add “queerness” to such content. Disney corporate president Karey Burke announced that she was the mother of “one transgender child and one pansexual child” and that she would try to achieve a quota system whereby half of all Disney characters would be LGBTQ or people of color. Disney diversity and inclusion manager Vivian Ware stated that Disney’s beloved theme parks would be eliminating any mention of “ladies and gentlemen” or “boys and girls.” This prompted a well-deserved firestorm for the Mouse House. Disney has long been Left-wing on social issues -- but in the aftermath of ginned-up controversy surrounding Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill, which protects small children from indoctrination on sexual orientation and gender identity, an angry coterie of employees pushed management to signal fealty even harder. So Disney’s brass did, announcing that they opposed the Florida bill and then turning over the company to its most radical contingent. And people reacted. #BoycottDisney began to trend on social media. We at the Daily Wire committed to spending $100 million to develop children’s content that would be safe for kids -- content dedicated to traditional values, where parents wouldn’t have to worry about prescreening content for messages about nonbinary 5-year-olds.

The Left, caught with its hand in the kiddie jar, immediately swiveled and accused the Right of initiating this culture war. Michelle Goldberg of The New York Times lamented that she felt terrible for Raveneau, who, after all, was just “step(ping) up to defend the company’s queer friendliness, only to become a national object of right-wing fury and disgust,” and whose injection of LGBTQ propaganda into children’s content was “sweetly anodyne.” CNN hosted Washington Post transgender columnist Charlotte Clymer, adding the chyron “LGBT COMMUNITY LATEST TO BE CAUGHT IN CULTURE WAR.” The takeaway, according to the social Left, is that anyone who defends traditionalism in child-rearing -- or anyone who simply doesn’t want children turned into targets of sexual propagandizing -- is the true cultural aggressor. This is a transparent lie. And it’s a lie that won’t redound to the benefit of those who seek radical change. If they wish to pose the rubric of gay rights against parental rights, gay rights are likely to suffer. If they wish to suggest that LGBTQ freedom extends to teachers initiating children into sexual conversations without parental permission, parents are unlikely to go along for the ride. For decades, the social Left has made inroads by arguing that they simply want to be left alone. The Right, by contrast, has argued that the Left’s agenda is far broader, that the Left demands cultural celebration of its sexual mores and that it will stop at nothing to remake society in order to achieve its narcissistic goals. Disney’s latest foray into the culture wars proves that the Right was correct, that the Left’s stated agenda was a lie and that its “not-at-all-secret” agenda targeted the most vulnerable Americans. Disney shows no signs of backing away from the extremism its all-hands meeting unmasked See SHAPIRO on 28

Never Admit Anything President Joe Biden says he never talked business with his son. Maybe he didn’t. Maybe that Ukrainian gas company paid Hunter Biden half by John Stossel a million dollars Syndicated Columnist b e c a u s e h e h a s unique business skills that no one else noticed. It’s possible. But unlikely. Now a Justice Department investigation may tell us whether Hunter is a sleazy opportunist who broke

the law and whether his father knew, or even helped. But equally revealing is the arrogance and bias the reporting on Hunter’s laptop revealed among wide swaths of media and big tech gatekeepers. Even today, most will not admit they were wrong. The New York Post broke the laptop story near the end of the presidential campaign. The story was explosive, of course, and the media pile-on intense. Some piled on Hunter Biden, but more piled on the New York Post. They questioned the authenticity of the hard drive and the timing and accuracy

of the story. Twitter blocked the story from even being shared. Facebook hid the story. Politico said it might be “Russian disinformation.” A Washington Post column called it “laughably weak.” A New York Times piece labeled it “farcical retread of the Russian hack-and-leak operation that helped torpedo Hillary Clinton’s presidential aspirations.” The story was mocked and buried. Now, a year and a half later, the Post and Times admit that major parts of the story were accurate. Do you know what they haven’t said? “Sorry. We cannot stand the

idea of another Trump term, so we didn’t report on bad things Democrats did.” The Washington Post finally wrote that the way the media handled the story was an “opportunity for a reckoning.” But then they spent the rest of their editorial making excuses for their mistakes. No one was fired. No one was suspended. No policy was changed. This is nothing new. For months, Facebook blocked any mention of the theory that COVID-19 may have been leaked from a lab. Most media sneered that it was “fake news.” See STOSSEL on 36

Resounding Rebuke To Russia In UN Assembly For the third time in a month, the UN General Assembly has resoundingly rebuked Russia for its actions in Ukraine. A tough by John J. Metzler resolution supSyndicated Columnist ported by 93 countries versus 24 backing Moscow, suspended Russia from the Human Rights Council. The move was as overdue as it proved poetic justice to oust Russia from its seat on the 47 member Geneva-based Council. Though the victory in a sense represented the afterglow reaction to an earlier video speech by embattled Ukraine President Vlodomyr Zelensky before the Security Council, the censure reflected global reactions

to an appalling litany of war crimes perpetrated by Russian military forces inside Ukraine. Ukraine’s UN Ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya urged member states to keep the Human Rights Council from “sinking” and to suspend Russia, stating that it has committed “horrific human rights violations and abuses that would be equated to war crimes and crimes against humanity.” There’s no question that tough diplomacy by the Americans and Europeans has isolated Russia diplomatically. Yet this vote with 93 backers was far fewer than the first two earlier resolutions when 141 and 140 countries supported resolutions chiding Moscow for its invasion and causing the ensuing humanitarian trauma of Ukraine. In those two previous votes only four countries

backed Russia; this time the number rose to 24. Equally the number of abstentions jumped to 58. Though originally off balance in the General Assembly, apparently Moscow’s Foreign Ministry has stabilized the political tailspin and reasserted party discipline of a sort with many of its traditional comrades and friends. China, Cuba, Iran, Nicaragua, Vietnam and Zimbabwe were among the usual suspects, voting alongside Russia. So in a sense Russia got the “old band back together” but with some new members; Algeria, Bolivia, Ethiopia and Mali. Impressively the 93 supporters of the resolution included the U.S., Canada, all of Europe along with East Asian partners such as Japan, South Korea and the Philippines. Equally, most of the Caribbean and

Latin America backed the resolution too including Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay. As American UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield stated poignantly, “We are holding Russia to account.” The abstentions numbered 58 and offer an keen insight on how many countries are either quietly supporting Moscow or are afraid not to, or are simply politically fence sitting. For example in Latin America, Brazil, Mexico and El Salvador abstained. Equally in South Asia notables like India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka abstained again as did key ASEAN states such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. Africa’s abstentions included Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa. See METZLER on 38

One of the questions In Camp Constitution’s 10 Question Quiz is “What branch of government declares war?” Most of the folks taking the quiz believe that the president declares war.The correct answer is Congress: Article 1, Section 8, Clause 11: “To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on land and water.” We follow up with a verbal question: “When was the last time the United States declared war?” Most of the quiz takers answer with the Gulf War 2 or the war in Afghanistan. The correct answer is World War II. If Congress has the sole power to declare war, why were we involved in the Korean War, The Vietnam War, Gulf War 1, and Gulf War 2? Before we answer the

question, let us look at the history of declared wars. Congress has declared war five times against ten nationsGermany twice. Great Britain in 1812-The War of 1812 Mexico in 1846 (War with Mexico)

Spain (War of 1898) Also known as the “Splendid Little War) Germany and the Austria-Hungary in 1917 (World War I) Japan, Germany, and Italy in 1941, and in 1941 Bulgaria, Hungary, and Rumania (Word War 2). There have no declarations of war after 1942, but as mentioned above, we have been in four wars since then. The simple answer is that in 1945, the U.S. Congress passed, and President Truman signed the United Nations Participation Act which, among other things, unconstitutionally transferred Congress’ power to declare war to the United Nations Security Council. To add constitutional insult to injury, four years later, the United States joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization-NATO. Under Article 5 of the

NATO charter, an invasion of a NATO nation is an attack on all NATO members. We also read in the charter that it is little more than a sub-division of the United Nations. NATO was sold to the American people and Congress as an anti-communist entity. It never was. The Korean War was the first undeclared war, and the first one which ended in a stalemate. General Douglas McArthur learned the hard way that victory was never the goal in Korea. When General Mark Clark signed the armistice with North Korea, he remarked that he had the dubious distinction to be the first American official to “sign a stalemate.” We are still there. The next undeclared war was Vietnam. It was fought under the auspicious of the now defunct Southeast Asia Treaty Organization-SEATO, another United Nations subdivision. This war had rules of engagement that made it impossible to win but like the Korean War, victory was never the goal. The next war was “Operation Desert Storm.” Iraq invaded its neighbor Kuwait and the United Nations authorized military action against Iraq. General Norman Schwarzkopf was the next military leader to learn that victory was never the objective. Iraq was driven out of Kuwait, but when General Schwarzkopf suggested that we advance to the Iraq capital and take out Saddam Hussein he learned that vanquishing the enemy See SHURTLEFF on 31

The Words That Unify Christians He Lives His Resurrection. The history of the church in New Hampshire is one of varied congregations but it is the Easter message that has united the believers so that many times churches with differences have gathered together to celebrate this basic event and truth that they agree on. The first churches in New Hampshire were either Puritan churches which eventually became the Congrega-

One question that is asked by some concerning the Christian faith is “Why are there so many different denominations or groups of Christians? If you research the number of different Christian churches and organizations right here in New Hampshire you will find quite a number, though a few names like Baptist, Congregational, Episcopal, Presbyterian, and Assembly of God would probably dominate. The history of the church in New Hampshire will probably sound a little different to you depending on the denomination of the history-teller. There are differences of denominations because of differences in Biblical interpretation or the special emphasis put on certain doctrines, or, sometimes it is the way a church is organized or the style of worship that makes it different. There is diversity within the Christian church. One thing that true, Christian Church-

The exchange of words that I suppose will be heard in many New Hampshire churches this Easter Sunday will be “ He is risen!”, followed by “He is risen indeed!’ The music will differ within the churches with some using the old hymns that I have looked forward to hearing since my youth like “Christ the Lord Is Risen Today,” “He Arose!,” and “He Lives!,” while others will be singing more recent modern choruses, but also proclaiming that Jesus rose from the dead. On Good Friday many will think of the suffering Savior dying on the Cross and also think of

the sorrow associated with that event and the confusion Jesus followers must have experienced at that time. Thoughts will no doubt turn to personal times of suffering and sorrow and to the death and destruction of the present war in Ukraine. Some preachers and others will probably give encouragement and hope by saying “Friday is here, but Sunday is coming,” as a reminder of the Resurrection of Jesus. It is because Jesus promised eternal life and joy to those who believe in Him as the Savior from sin and its consequences that Christians are bound together by the meaningful news of His death and astounding news of

Letters From God

This series of Letters From God is an attempt to put the thoughts of God as revealed in the Scriptures as they relate to individuals and the nation of the USA. QUESTION: How Can Your Prove That You Were Raised From Being Dead?

There are many ways that I could prove that I, Jesus, was dead but now alive. Look at the date on your morning newspaper. Do you really think that the world is only 2022 years old? You know it’s much older than that. Something so significant and so profound caused mankind to divide the designation of time as the years which preceded my birth death and resurrection and those which followed. Wouldn’t you think that if someone claimed to be God and promised that upon his death he would be raised and then was raised, it would be so earth shaking that it would be the pivotal point in human history? Your newspaper attests to the fact that I have been raised. Something else that you must recognize is that my disciples all gave their lives proclaiming that I was raised from the grave and that they were eyewitnesses. Read the book of Acts in my book, the Bible, and you will hear over and over again how each of them where eyewitnesses to my resurrection. Listen to how John expressed this

in a letter he wrote. He said “that which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched, this we proclaim concerning the word of life the life appeared; we have seen it and testified to it and we proclaim to you the eternal life which was with the father and has appeared to us.” (1 John 1:1-2). Some might easily rationalize this away by simply saying that John and the other apostles could have been lying and tried to recruit others by deception. The problem with this is that at the time of my death each of them abandoned me and ran and hid for fear that the Jewish leaders and Roman soldiers would do to them what they did to me. Peter, most notably had vowed that he would defend me but in the midst of my trial that would lead to my death, he was so fearful, he denied even knowing me and he did this with a curse (Matthew 26:73-75). No one can explain why each of these disciples would carry the good news of my resurrection to their grave when they were put to death for their faith, if they believed it was a lie. It is true that many people have given their lives for what they thought was true but if I wasn’t raised from the grave, they knew it wasn’t true. Would you give your life for something that you knew wasn’t true?

Another evidence that you must consider is that this spread of the good news of my death and resurrection leading to life through faith, spread like a wildfire beginning from the city of Jerusalem. Like a rock dropped in a pond, the initial impact created a circle that continued to grow wider and wider until it encompassed the entire pond, the world. But Jerusalem was the place of my execution at the hands of mortal enemies, both religious and secular leaders. It would have been impossible for faith in my resurrection to take root in this city if my body was still in the tomb. All they needed to do to dispel what would have been a deception, would be to exhume my body put it on public display and expose the hoax. Instead the Jewish leaders accused my disciples of stealing my body apparently in an effort to explain its disappearance (Matthew 28:1115). Keep in mind that their religious leaders feared that my disciples might steal my body and create hysteria and a greater problem then had been created by my life. So, they made sure that there was a Roman guard present to make sure my disciples would never even attempt to steal away my body (Matthew 27:6266). Not only could they not overcome a Roman guard; they also were huddled in an upper room terri-

fied that they would be the next ones to be crucified (John 20:1920). Perhaps the greatest evidence of my resurrection is the transformation in the lives of those who placed their faith in me. The apostle Paul, who was once known as Saul, was a leader of the Jewish people. His hatred for me and my disciples caused him to begin a campaign to arrest, persecute and even kill those who believed in me. He saw Christianity as a threat to Judaism that needed to be expunged. He was responsible for writing nearly two thirds of the letters in my book, the Bible, as part of the New Testament. He was personally responsible for carrying the gospel out of Jerusalem through Asia minor into Greece and finally Rome. There, he would give his life as a martyr at the hands of a wicked Roman Emperor. Throughout his life and even in his death he bore witness that his life was transformed when he met me his resurrected Savior (Acts 9:1-19). There is much more I can say but time and space are limited. Consider these evidences however, and consider staking your life on me, a risen Savior instead of all the others who remain in the grave. These letters are written by a New Hampshire pastor.

Play Ball! (But Where?) ball players from Town B. Towne Teams flourished, populated by true hometown heroes who would never think of playing for another club from another town. But then someone from Town A had the idea of enticing someone from Town C to play for Town A so Town A could beat Town B. Town B folks were not amused, but they went ahead and enticed someone from Town D to play for them so they could beat Town A. Thus an early form of free agency began. See MOFFETT on 19

by Mike Moffett Contributing Writer

Another Major League Baseball season is underway. Will the recent labor strife have much impact on attendance, TV ratings, apparel sales, and the like? I suspect the impact will be minimal. Current fans factor in the reality of free agency, lawyers, exorbitant contracts etc. as part of the modern-day baseball experience and don’t lose heart when business gets in the way of baseball—unlike the likes of me. See March 10 Sport-Thoughts column “Baseball Strikes Out.” Part of old-fashioned me still thinks our National Pastime belongs to everyone and that owners and players owe it to fans to avoid strikes and lockouts. Silly me. It is what it is. Baseball is a business. But successful businesses are the ones who put customers first. So one notes that Red Sox stalwarts like Xander Bogaerts, Nathan Eovaldi, and J.D. Martinez will be free agents this year and likely to leave Boston. Such uncertainty was never an issue before free agency when the reserve clause was in place. But how can one be pro-freedom and still oppose allowing baseball players oppor-

tunities to pick whom they want to work for? Still, it hurt when Mookie Betts abandoned the BoSox after the 2019 season, choosing to head to L.A. and a 2020 contract worth $27 million. Did some youngsters cry over Mookie’s departure? Of course. And some oldsters too. You see, players like Betts become part of our communities, part of Red Sox Nation. They regularly visit our homes (via TV) and join our families. We get to know them, like them, appreciate them, and identify with them. And then they take off. As opposed to Ted Williams (1939-60), Carl Yastrzemski (1961-83), Jim Rice (1974-89), and others who played for Boston only. Back in the old days players got traded, of

course. Often against their will, such as when Boston’s Ken “Hawk” Harrelson was dealt to the Indians in 1969. The 1968 American League “Player of the Year,” Harrelson’s heart broke when he had to move to Cleveland and he was never the same. Competitive baseball has its roots in small town mid-19th Century America. Supposedly invented by Colonel Abner Doubleday in 1839, the game became very popular in small communities throughout New York, New England and then beyond—during those simpler times before the internet, television, or even radio. At some point someone had the sportthought of getting together the best baseball players from Town A to play the best base-

Will You Have Your Camera Ready? by Chris Bosak Contributing Writer

I’ve missed countless photo opportunities while driving because I did not have my camera with me. This time I was well armed. I was driving to work along my usual route when I passed a small, historic cemetery that I have passed hundreds of times before. On this day, I noticed a flock of turkeys among the grave markers as I sped past. I found the nearest safe place to turn around and headed back to the cemetery. Here’s where my stories usually end with “but they were gone.” This time, they were all still there. It is mating season for turkeys, and the male of the flock was strutting his stuff among the rows of memorials. The female turkeys, or hens, were lined up along the stone wall that ran the far edge of the cemetery. The male, or tom or gobbler, was big and impressive and protective of his flock. He had a big attitude as well as it looked as if he were going to try to take on my truck as I pulled into the cemetery. He took a few steps towards me as I rolled down the window, and he displayed all his impressive feathers and gave me a gobble. I grabbed a few photos

as he strutted around among the grave markers. The females stayed to their side of the cemetery along the wall. As the tom moved around, he put himself in interesting photographic compositions among the grave markers and flags. The turkey did not approach any closer nor did it go any farther away. That allowed me time to study how interesting a male turkey in the breeding season is. After a few minutes, he got used to the idea of the truck being there and went about his business. Still, on occasion he would display his feathers and his snood would stand up on top of his head. I guess now would be a good time to define

a few terms about a turkey’s appearance. The wattle is the droopy part that hangs below a turkey’s neck. The snood is the part that typically sags and lies above the top of the bill. The snood can also stand up on top of a turkey’s head when it is agitated or, in the case of males, feeling frisky. Interestingly, the head of a turkey changes color depending on the mood of the bird. A mostly red head indicates that the bird is agitated or sexually excited. Lighter shades of blue, red and white usually indicate the bird is relaxed. The daily commute can be monotonous and a drag. But every once in a while nature breaks the routine with

an interesting sighting. Will you have your camera ready?

I love Pulled Pork! Made with, in my humble opinion, one of the best cuts of pork, a Pork Butt, Pulled Pork has a unique flavor all its own. And seldom will two people agree on the ingredients for a Pulled Pork recipe. But here again I´m not writing this to convince you that my recipe is the best, it is merely one of so many delicious recipes out there. I’ve been on a mission lately to find “center of the plate” items that will not break the bank. Recipes that taste great, are simple to make, and are economical (I don’t like to use the word cheap). But let’s face it, Pork Butt, in relation to the rest of the pork cuts, is typically less expensive per pound, so you can get more for your dollar with a 3 pound boneless butt in the neighborhood of nine dollars. This offers nine to twelve servings. Along with some sides and rolls for a few dollars more, and once again you have fed a family of four for about $1.50 per person with leftovers for lunches the next day. The history of Pulled Pork is like that of

the pig itself, a long and twisted tail… err tale. So, we’ll hit some of the highlights and you can dive into the rest at your leisure. Pulled Pork is made from the butt, not the butt of the pig (that would be a ham, and another story) but actually part of the front shoulder. So why do they call it a “butt” you ask? According to Miriam Webster and internet lore a butt was a type of wooden cask, back in the day, used for packing

and shipping liquids as well as some commodities. According to lore, the meat packer would fill these casks or “butts” with parts of the pork shoulder and ship them in this manner and these cuts became known as Pork Butts. Pork Butt lends itself quite readily to the Pulled Pork application. It is a muscle group of motion. The meat tends to be stringy so a low heat, slow cooking time is just what this cut calls

for. Along with the low and slow method an acid (dry or liquid) is usually introduced to help break down the connective tissues during cooking while sweet and spicy flavors are introduced to enhance an already deliciously robust taste. Obtaining a butt that is relatively lean and boneless is quite easy, much of the fat will be on the outside of the cut and you can choose to either trim it off or cook it as is and See FEAST on 18

Preparation Into a slow cooker / crock pot place the sliced onion, sliced apples, and Pork Butt. Into the pot add in remaining ingredients and cook covered on high for 5 to 6 hours. Meat should begin to break apart easily with the twist of a fork. Remove meat from the pot and let rest for 30 minutes on a baking sheet or pan and reduce heat to low. Using two forks, break apart the meat into strands so that no large clumps are present. Return pulled pork back into the pot of hot liquid and continue to cook uncovered or with lid partially off to the side until ready to serve. Serve on bulkie or burger rolls with Cheddar Cheese, Bread and Butter Pickles, or homemade Slaw. heat with an “acid” made from vinegar or a tomato based BBQ sauce. These are the basic and the most popular methods, with differing methods often a reflection of regional tastes. I prefer a combination of sweet over acidic flavors, literally, and once you try my recipe you will see what I mean. The finished flavor starts out with a sweet caramelized flavor reflecting the brown sugar, cola, and bourbon but finishes with a tangy bite from the vinegar and BBQ sauce, and with it there is that pleasing hint of smoke. Not too bad for this New Hampsha Yankee and his crock pot alchemy! After five or six hours of swimming in the slow cooker on “high” (my slow cooker only has three set-

tings “OFF” “LOW” and “HIGH”), I start poking at the meat with a fork, giving it a twist. If the meat breaks apart, it is time to pull it… out of the pot, onto an edged baking pan, let it rest for a few minutes and then, with two forks, start pulling it apart in opposite directions. Once it is all pulled into strands, put that which you have not eaten back into the slow cooker and continue “cooking’ on low until dinner time. In the meantime you could be making slaw or beans or finishing that Mac and Cheese dish or anything else to accompany this Simple Feast. Enjoy!

MOFFETT from 13 Eventually money was offered to ringers as the stakes were raised. Community identity and a town’s self-worth required having a competitive baseball team. In 1869 the first professional team was established—the Cincinnati Red Stockings. This new notion of playing baseball for a living was a hit. It sure beat working on a farm, in a blacksmith shop, or six days a week in a factory. Our National Pastime became ever-more national in 1876 when the National League was organized. Later came the American League. Then the World Series. Eventually All-Star Games and a Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. And in 1975, a century after the National League was formed, we got free agency. Salaries and prices skyrocketed but the game endured. Which brings us back to Xander Bogaerts, Nathan Eovaldi, and J.D. Martinez, currently playing in City A but likely to move to City B. One just hopes that City B is not New York City!

How to Choose the Best Wallpaper Design for Any Space (StatePoint) Thinking about using wallpaper to transform your walls from drab to fab? You’re in good company. Wallpaper’s popularity is on the rise in both residential and commercial spaces and gaining an edge over paint. Why? Experts believe this trend reflects a growing recognition of wallpaper’s unique benefits. It’s cost-effective, protects the wall surface from accidental marks and scratches, and offers personalized self-expression at a reasonable price. “We experienced consistent month-overmonth wallpaper sales increases throughout 2021. We attribute this to consumers’ growing desire to customize their spaces with designs that reflect their personal style and

rable. Not only is it PVCfree, it is also moisture resistant.

aesthetic preferences, while retaining the option to change things up as frequently as desired with removable wallpaper,” says Michael Jones, general manager, Spoonflower, a leading custom, printon-demand wallpaper and home decor digital marketplace. According to Jones, there are a few things to keep in mind when choosing the right wallpaper for your space. Here, he offers a few insights to help you get started: Type First, determine how long you’d like the wallpaper to remain on your walls. Some types of wallpaper are more suitable for long-term use and others are best for those who wish to

change their designs with the seasons or on a whim. For this reason, Spoonflower offers three types of wallpaper: 1. Prepasted Removable Smooth: Longlasting, but fully removable (and recyclable), this option is great for homes, rental spaces, accent walls or temporary art installations. 2. Peel and Stick Removable Woven: Removable and repositionable, this option won’t leave a residue behind. Whether you’re renting or you love to stay on-trend, temporary wallpaper is a great alternative to traditional wall coverings. 3. Traditional Pebble: This traditional wallpaper has a subtle leathered texture, matte finish, is paste-activated and is highly du-

Design To take the guesswork out of wallpaper design selection, consider heading to a wallpaper digital marketplace. In the case of Spoonflower, which features over 1 million designs, the biggest challenge you’ll face is the enormity of selection. However, you can easily narrow down your choices by searching for designs based on category keywords, color or by styles, such as Mid-Century Modern, Cottagecore or Paisley. For those with a specific design already envisioned, the site even allows you to upload your own design and have it custom printed on wallpaper. Before committing, consider ordering two or three swatches so you can compare them in your own space and assess the best fit. This can help ensure your final design selection is completely tailored to your preferences. To learn more and to get the process started, visit spoonflower.com. Thanks to new wallpaper technology and an ever-growing library of designs available, making a customized impact on the look and feel of your spaces has never been easier.

WE ARE THE LAKES REGION’S GARAGE EPOXY FLOOR SPECIALISTS (Family Features) When you decide to renovate your home – whether to sell or make improvements for you and your family to enjoy – setting a budget can be a challenge. Knowing what you want to accomplish may be the easy part but avoiding the bad advice out there and determining what you can actually afford takes research and detailed planning. Consider these tips from National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI) member contractors to help build an appropriate remodeling budget.

Identify your project scope and ideal budget. Start by creating a list of everything you would like to include in your renovation then separate your list into wants and needs. From there, determine a proposed budget for the project based on how much you’re comfortable spending and your home’s value. “Get your bids after you know what the project is,” said Michael Anschel, principal of OA Design +Build+Architecture. Meet with remodelers. Set up a meeting with a local remodeling company and share

your proposed scope of work and budget to see if it’s feasible. An experienced, professional remodeler who is a member of an organization like NARI can share feedback on the costs in your area and any challenges involved with your project based on experiences with homes like yours. Once you have a better understanding of the true scope of the project, meet with other contractors to gather a few estimates to compare. “Are you hiring an installer or are you hiring an expert guide?” asked Barak Steenlage, See BUDGET on 27

by Melinda Myers Don’t let limited sunlight stop you from growing a beautiful garden. Make the most of shady locations with proper plant selection and design strategies. Start the season with native spring ephemerals like hepatica, spring beauties and trout lilies. These plants grow and flower early in the season before the trees leaf out, shading the area. They dieback soon after flowering as shade tolerant plants fill the garden. Look for those native to your region. Select bright and

Bugbane’s white spires of flowers will provide some height to the shady areas in the landscape. lime green foliage plants that stand out in the shady corners of your landscape. Combine them with your favorite dark leafed and flowered plants that tend to disappear in the shade. The contrasting colors help both plants pop. Use plants with variegated foliage to light up the garden long after their flowers fade. Siberian bugloss (Brunnera) has blue forget-me-notlike flowers in spring and variegated heart shaped leaves. Variegated Solomon Seal’s upright stems covered with green leaves edged in cream, white bell-shaped flowers and yellow fall color provide multiple seasons of interest.

Barrenwort (Epimedium) also provides seasonal color in the shade. The heart shaped leaves are tinged red and emerge with the flowers in spring. The leaves turn green for the summer and then change once again to red in fall. Add some height to those shady areas with bugbane. The leaves are topped with white spires of flowers in summer or fall, depending on the variety selected. The white or pink blossoms of Roger’s flower brighten the early summer garden. The big, bold leaves of this moisture-loving perennial resemble those of a horse chestnut tree. The narrow leaves

of sedges and Hakone grass create a striking contrast with the bold leaves of hostas. For an even bolder statement and focal point include a few elephant ears. Look for shade tolerant plants with a variety of leaf shapes and sizes. The differences in texture add interest to the shade garden. Repeat the leaf sizes and shapes to unify the garden. Use this same strategy to create continuity between sun and shade gardens in your landscape. Include a variety of plant shapes. Use columnar plants to create a focal point and weeping and mounded plants for a sense of See SHADE on 29

Today’s reimagined kitchen is smarter, healthier and greener - designed for optimal wellness in the home. Rethink Refrigeration After spending increased amounts of time at home, many homeowners have decided to add more personalized rooms to their homes, like home gyms, offices, art studios, theaters and more. With that, came the desire for more versatile appliances that could fit into any of these new spaces. Products that have become increasingly popular are undercounter refrigerators, especially those that can blend easily into cabinetry. Undercounter refrigerators offer added convenience to the home, whether you need extra space for entertaining or want to keep certain cosmetics or toiletries chilled in your master suite. Those aren’t the only refrigerators getting upgrades, the French door category also continues to be a top trend in kitchens throughout the country, but limited sizing was previously an issue for some homeown-

ers. Now, the first-ever 48-inch French door refrigerator from Signature Kitchen Suite is opening this option to more people than ever, bringing beauty and functionality into any luxury kitchen. Ovens With Options Warmer weather is just around the corner, meaning entertaining season is coming back in full force. The good news is you don’t need a huge kitchen to be a

pro host. Many kitchen appliances today offer more functionality in one product so you can get more cooking done in one convenient space. For instance, the latest ranges now feature double-oven designs, so you can bake or roast two dishes at different temperatures at once in separate oven cavities. LG’s new slide-in range delivers the most when it comes to multifunctional cooking with See SMART on 26

SMART from 25 several cooking modes including ProBake Convection - the gold standard in convection technology, for even baking on every rack, every time. For added convenience, the microwave easily connects to the range for automatic ventilation and lighting when cooking on the

range’s cooktop, while InstaView technology allows you to check on the cooking progress by simply knocking twice on the glass to illuminate the interior. More Than A Microwave

Does your microwave oven cook unevenly, where some parts of foods are overcooked, and others are still cold? If so, it’s time for an upgrade. Modern smart microwaves cook foods quickly and evenly with advanced technology that provides delicious results and added fea-

tures that complement the way you use your kitchen. Thanks to the slideout “ExtendaVent, your cooking atmosphere is kept clear and clean as it reduces the presence of smoke and lingering odors in the kitchen. Plus, cleaning has never been easier with the EasyClean interior that features a special coating to prevent food and grease from sticking. Integrated Recipes Imagine scanning a recipe, having it populate your grocery cart so you can order the foods you need and then having your smart appliance know exactly how to cook those foods to perfection. This is now a reality thanks to the new “ThinQ Recipe” service that works with several of the cooking appliances, like LG’s new range and overthe-range microwave, and it can be easily accessed via an app. Now you can search, plan, purchase and cook delicious recipes whenever you want from the comfort of your kitchen. The new tool even offers over 10,000 shoppable recipes via Walmart and Amazon Fresh delivery services. Plus, with the Scan to Cook feature, you can easily scan the UPC barcode on select ready-made meals to remotely set temperature and cooking time. As Knobloch points out, we’re all likely going to continue to spend more time cooking, eating and enjoying time together in your kitchen. To make the most of the space and your time, these smart appliances are a smart investment.

www.brocksonline.com • 603-332-4065 BUDGET from 23 co-owner of Anchor Builders. “The difference is worth the investment.” Beware of low estimates. When evaluating companies for your project, remember estimates you may find online don’t typically account for regional variations, the cost of various types of labor and necessary permits. “Cost estimates you find may be national averages that are lower than the costs in your city,” said Bjorn Freudenthal, homeowner advisor at New Spaces. “Also, they may only account for the cost of the replacement materials, not other costs like changing the floor plan or updating electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems. They might also be missing the costs of removal of hazardous materials like asbestos and lead paint.” The COVID-19 pandemic has also caused some materials to rise in cost, so it’s important to account for these increases. “Bad contractor sto-

ries come from people cutting corners and hiring unqualified people,” Anschel said. “When you’re paying bottom of the barrel, there’s no bandwidth for the contractor to solve problems.” Ensure you have proper permits. Not all projects require permits, but it is important to determine if your project requires one from your city or county. Make sure you (or your contractor) obtain one, if necessary, to ensure the safety of the work and its compliance with building, construction and zoning codes. “If a homeowner or contractor doesn’t pull permits and something goes wrong, the homeowner is liable to fix the problem,” Anschel said. “This additional cost could be a large percentage of the original job, and maybe more.” Understand your timeline. The purpose of your renovation can impact the long-term value of the project. Making updates to prepare your home to sell, for example, is a more

immediate cost than updating a space you will spend time in for years to come. “When the homeowner is looking to stay 7-10 years or more, it impacts lifetime value because you can spread the cost out over a longer period of time,” Steenlage said. gan elements had found their way into popular celebration of it. The Puritans came to America to get away from the Church of England, but those two groups were the first to start churches in New Hampshire, and it appears that in most of the early settlements in New Hampshire one of the first concerns was to build a church and a parsonage. The first church in Portsmouth is said to have been built before 1638. John Mason, who had been granted a charter to settle the land, was said to have given the church “ one great Bible, twelve service books, one pewter flagon, one common cup and cover of silver, two tablecloths and two napkins.” This would assure that they had a Bible in their services and the items used in the communion services in remembrance of Christ’s death and resurrection. According to a pamphlet titled “New Hampshire Church History, By Dr. Edward Goodridge, published in 1904, Rev. Richard Gibson was their first minister, but

when the Puritans took over the church a few years later Rev. Gibson lost his position. Governor Winthrop had objected to the loyalists to the church of England, saying, “ Some of them were professed enemies to the ways of our churches.” There seems to have more secular interests in mind for some of the early settlers of Portsmouth, and, though the first Puritan minister quickly added parishioners to his flock, “most of them fell back,” according to Governor Wentworth. In 1679 New Hampshire was separated from Massachusetts and “liberty of conscience was allowed to all Protestants,” an act that made it easier for the Church of England to establish churches in the Granite State. Note that the first churches in our State were all Protestant and there really wasn’t separation of church and state. Those early churches did reach out in missions efforts to reach people with the story of Jesus. In 1649 a corporation was started in Eng-

land with the name “The President and Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in New England.” This was a mission directed towards the Indians. In 1701 the “Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts” was formed. As time went by other Christian groups with their particular “brand” of Christianity have arrived in New Hampshire, but none being truly Christian without the belief in the resurrection of Jesus, the Christ. At one time one could not vote in this State unless they were Protestant. But the Catholics came, along with new Protestant names, laws changed, and voting rights were expanded. But those Christian Roman Catholics were also believers in the Resurrection of Jesus. In these days the pandemic and other factors may limit the number of traditional pre-Easter community Lenten and Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services. Easter advertisements may not be as prominent as they were five, ten, or particularly 50 or 75 years ago. Churches may not be joining together for Easter Sunrise Services as in years past. But the Easter baskets with chocolate bunnies and marshmallow chicks will bring enjoyment to many children and the Easter lilies, tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, etc. will still be displayed in many homes. But most important of all the message of One Who conquered and defeated death through His own death and resurrection will be proclaimed in many churches in New Hampshire on Easter Sunday. The uniting words are “He is Risen! He is Alive!”

— THE WEIRS TIMES, Thursday, April 14, 2022 — due our nation’s tragic history of undeclared wars where victory was never the goal, there are some steps we can take:

SHURTLEFF from 8 was not the objective. What was the objective? President H.W. Bush told us in a speech he made to a joint session of Congress: “a new world order” which he described as a United Nations as envisioned by its founders. He failed to mention that its chief architect was Alger Hiss-A Soviet agent. Bush wanted Congressional approval but as he said, he is going to a “higher authority.” That higher authority was not God but the United Nations. Ten years later, in the wake of 9/11 we had another undeclared war against Iraq - because Hussein was believed to have weapons of mass destruction - and a war against Afghanistan. Our involvement in Iraq lasted until 2011, and the disaster in Afghanistan ended last year. After 20 years, the Taliban took control and we left them a gift of approximately

$80 billion worth of military hardware. As of this writing, we may be on the brink of another war-this time with Russia If so, it is because of the unconstitutional treaty we made with NATO. While our borders are wide open to drug cartels, and illegal alien criminals, the Biden Administration is sending billions of dollars of weapons to Ukraine. The War Powers Act In 1973, Congress passed, over the veto of Richard Nixon, the War Powers Act. The act included a provision that Presidents must end foreign military actions after 60 days unless Congress provides a declaration of war or an authorization for the operation to continue. It proved to be a toothless law to the point that the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear a challenge to our involvement in Yugoslavia in 2000. While we cannot un-

STOSSEL from 7 The Washington Post called it “a fringe theory.” The New York Times, a “conspiracy theory.” PolitiFact rated it “Pants on Fire!” Only when the Biden administration said there might have been a lab leak did Facebook drop its censorship. Did Facebook say, “Sorry? We shouldn’t censor such important discussion?” No. Did we see apolo-

getic commentaries on CNN and MSNBC? I must have missed them. Maybe none of this is a big deal to you, but it’s a big deal to me. I make my living posting videos on digital platforms. I made two videos that suggested fears about climate change are overblown. I didn’t say climate change isn’t real. I didn’t say it won’t cause problems. In fact, I said it’s already

caused problems. But because I said the fear might be overblown, Facebook’s climate-activist “factcheckers” make sure fewer people see my work. I once got millions of views on Facebook. Not anymore. Nothing I’d said in my climate videos was wrong. In one case, Facebook’s own factchecker admitted that I didn’t get any facts wrong. Still, Facebook continues to smear my

work as “partly false.” They even quote me saying something I never said! Yet even after I point that out, Facebook will not make a correction. Facebook, Twitter, The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN, NBC, Poynter Institute “fact-checkers” and most of the elite media are now part information-sharers, part leftist interest groups. I’m neither Democrat nor Republican. I don’t

obsess over whether Hunter Biden got paid to do sleazy things and whisper in his father’s ear. If he did, I doubt that he had much influence, anyway. I feel far more threatened when America’s Big Media don’t report facts, don’t speak up when censors are wrong and don’t remove mistakes when they’re caught making them. Apologizing for mistakes is something we teach little kids to do.

38 METZLER from 7 The UN Humanitarian Coordinator Martin Griffiths puts the conflict in stark context, “More than 11 million people have been forced to flee their homes, of whom 4.2 million are refugees in generous neighboring countries…on total more than a quarter of Ukraine’s population has fled in the extraordinary short time.” The Ukrainian refugees have found welcome in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania. Ireland’s UN Ambassador Geraldine Byrne Nason stated, “Let’s be clear: the Russian authorities are responsible for these atrocities, committed while they had effective control of the area. The Russian authorities are subject to the international law of occupation. There can never be impunity from such crimes. Never ever.” But while diplomacy at the UN has churned on a steady stream of resolutions and spirited meetings, key po-

The European Union’s President Ursula von der Leyen and Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell followed. Then British Prime Minister Boris Johnson paid a surprise walk around visit in Kiev to offer both his solidarity and an arsenal of new weapons for the embattled Ukrainians. Where are the key American representatives? While Europe’s political class fires rhetorical salvos and the United States hurls moral outrage at the Kremlin, the killing in Ukraine continues. The war is far from over and Vladimir Putin is planning his next moves. John J. Metzler is a Unite Nations correspondent covering diplomatic and defense issues. MALKIN from 6 theorist” and “domestic terrorist.” Reporting on irregularities and concerns with election software and hardware, ballot harvesting, mailin ballots and paperless voting systems will get you sued or prosecuted -- even though left-wingers from NowThis and HBO to the Brookings Institution and Brennan Center for Justice raised similar concerns for years. I’ve been called all the names and am already being sued for interviewing election whistleblowers, so I have nothing to lose in issuing a new warning. Never forget: COVID-19 chicanery provided the cover and pretext for the Zuckerberg Heist. Learn from history, and hone your pattern recognition skills. It’s happening again. For the past month, media outlets and government bureaucrats in both parties have been stirring up fears of election chaos induced by a “paper shortage” that has purportedly dragged

on for two years due to “COVID-19.” That’s just more fake virus news. Graphic paper demands have been declining and paper mills shutting down for decades thanks to the North American Free Trade Agreement, foreign subsidies and increased imports. But truth never stopped agenda-driven Chicken Littles: “A paper shortage is looming over the 2022 elections. Seriously,” Politico warned two weeks ago. “Worldwide paper shortage causing concerns for balloting ahead of midterm elections,” Detroit station WDIV trumpeted. “Midterm mess: States grapple with poll worker and paper shortages,” CNN intoned. The American Forest and Paper Association has tried to un-fan the media-generated flames of fear. “There is no reason to panic,” the association’s Terry Webber assured Americans last week, as long as election officials plan ahead. But mark my words. This “paper shortage” propaganda will be used to further cement the Soros fami-

ly-spearheaded push to hackable, paperless electronic voting systems, including Dominion, which covers 37% of voters. The Colorado state Senate just passed a bill, SB22153, that would reportedly mandate electronic voting machines in any county with more than 1,000 residents. The measure is backed by radical leftist Secretary of State Jena Griswold, a recipient of Soros campaign cash who fronts a Sorosfunded association for Democrat Secretaries of State -- and who has launched a political and legal vendetta against Mesa County clerk Tina Peters and Elbert County clerk Dallas Schroeder for preserving Dominion server hard drives. Also in my own backyard on Tuesday, GOP Clerk and Recorder for El Paso County, Colorado, Chuck Broerman invoked the “paper shortage” card to strong-arm the county commission into extending a high six-figure, no-bid contract with Runbeck Election Services. Hundreds of citizens turned out to a county board of commissioners hearing to raise alarms about

“cronyism and nepotism” issues surrounding the deal (Commissioner Holly Williams is married to Runbeck senior adviser and GOP Colorado Springs city councilman Wayne Williams, who brought Dominion machines to the state when he served as Secretary of State, and who was appointed by Mesa County commissioners to oversee elections -- a perch from which he has viciously attacked Peters before her case is adjudicated). Additionally, Runbeck has faced watchdog questions about its work in Tarrant County, Texas; Arizona; and Georgia. But squawking about a “paper shortage” and playing the phony “military disenfranchisement” card (which no one is advocating), Broerman declared that “finding a new vendor” was “just not an option” and time had run out. Turns out city government bureaucrats who finalized the Runbeck contract in late January had themselves dropped the ball for weeks on the mysteriously lost document, a procurement office “slip” compounded by the neglect of a clerk’s office deputy who was away for several added weeks and didn’t get to it because of a “family emergency.” Of course, the crisis is all the fault of “COVID,” “paper shortages” and inconvenient citizens with pesky questions whose scrutiny of their elected officials is causing them emotional distress -- while they arrogantly lecture the people who pay their bills for “offending” them with accusations of incompetence and crony favoritism. If it walks like an election heist and talks like an election heist ... learn from history.
