Birding not As simple As it seems

When it comes to birdwatching, there are very few simple answers. What does a cardinal look like? It seems like a question that would have a simple answer. It’s a mediumsized songbird with a crest, thick and colorful bill, and beautiful red plumage. But, of course, that’s only half — or even less than half — of the answer. Female cardinals do not fit that description and neither

do immature cardinals. So, there is a simple answer to that question, but it is not the complete answer. The full answer is longer and more complicated. Now, if someone asked what a cardinal sounds like, then it becomes even more complicated. Like many birds, cardinals have a call and a song. In fact, cardinals have many songs. You could simply say the cardinal’s call is a short, high-pitched chip

Pornography And Children

To The Editor: Despite knowing there would be objections, some “educators” brought pornography into K-12 school classrooms and libraries without public approval, notice, debate, or justification. When discovered, caring parents and citizens object and demand removal of these materials from schools.

Verifying their inappropriateness for schools, some school boards have prevented parents from reading these explicit materials in public meetings (e.g., https://tinyurl.com/3vacn8jy). If materials can’t be read in public meetings, then that material is not appropriate for school classrooms or libraries. (For more detailed information of what schools offer young children: https://tinyurl. com/3h9udd7a)

Nevertheless, some people call demands to remove pornography, not from them but, FROM SCHOOLS, “book banning”, ala “Nazi (National Socialist) Germany”.

The people screaming “book banning” surely know that agebased restrictions are appropriate; surely they oppose letting young children buy guns and cigarettes, or drive cars. “Banning” is unlikely to be their real concern. I don’t recall them complaining that the Bible and Ten Commandments are banned from schools (has that improved our society?), when students were prevented from handing out US Constitutions,

or when teachers were fired for praying on school grounds. I suspect interfering with their harmful ideological goals is their concern.

Unfortunately, too many teachers can’t adequately teach reading or math; why would any parent or rational person trust them to introduce pornography to children, some of whom already struggle with various aspects of growing up, and are vulnerable to exploitation?

Sadly, many children, one estimate is 361-500 annually, are sexually exploited by school employees (https://tinyurl. com/2p89at3y). Sharing pornography with children is a way to confuse children about sex and gender and enable their exploitation by adults. This might benefit deviant and predatory adults, but I don’t understand how it benefits children, parents, or society.

Banana Republic

To The Editor: We now live in a banana republic. It’s official. We’ve got a 2-tier judicial system. Fat Albert (DA Alvin Bragg) should be in jail. He’s responsible for rampant lawlessness in New York City. Sleepy Joe, his son Hunter, Hildabeast, her husband horn-dog Billy boy Clinton, Nancy “Insider Trading” Pelosi and her drunk husband ought to be wearing orange jump suits.

Global Warming Propaganda

To The Editor:

Mellisa Fleming, United Nations under secretary for Global Communications boasted while at the World Economic Forum that the U.N. Has partnered with Google to boost its manmade global warming propaganda.

She stated “ We partnered with Google, for example if you Google ‘ climate change’, you will at the top of your search get all kinds of U.N. Resources”. Any dissenting views may be way at the bottom or not found at all.

Climate Scientist Judith Curry was scheduled to speak on YouTube, January 6, 2023 . Doctor Curry is not a climate alarmist. Someone at YouTube recognized her name,or simply had a list. She was blocked minutes before her speech.

April showers of A different type

It fell from the sky on an April morning but it wasn’t rain that was falling. It was April 17, 1956 and, according to the Manchester, New Hampshire Union Leader, scores of Dublin, NH residents were spellbound as they looked up to the sky. An explosion from the sky ended the quiet of that April morning, and the attraction that kept those Dublin residents looking up was the pilot of an airplane that was the object of the explosion. A rocket-laden jet fighter experienced the explosion when it was 40,000 feet above the earth and those Dublin folk were watching the pilot float to earth under his parachute.

Lt.John P. Linman, Jr. was the pilot who reportedly was on a routine flight from Hanscomb Air Force Base in Bedford, Mass, when his F-86D fighter-interceptor was rocked by an explosion

when it was 40,000 feet above ground level. Finding himself unable to control the airplane, the 23 year old pilot activated the automatic ejection seat and dropped 30,000 feet before his chute was automatically opened by a device that was activated by air pressure.

Linman descended for five miles before his chute opened, but he was able to return to earth without injury though his chute became entangled in a tall tree, leaving him stranded for a short time until help arrived.

It was thought that the tree landing was a blessing, giving the pilot a somewhat soft landing because his parachute had begun to tear apart when it

was several hundred feet above the ground.

As previously stated, people had been watching this from the ground and he was trapped in the tree a few minutes before being rescued by a telephone cable crew.

Lt. Linman was from Klamath Falls, Oregon, and was flying on a training mission out of Hanscomb Air Force Base with another aircraft piloted by Captain Robert J. Lerner of Billerica, Massachusetts, who returned to the scene and circled around the area until he was assured that Linman had landed safely.

The point of the pilot’s landing was noted by the Union Leader to be “a tall tree beside the mountain road

to Jaffrey in Dublin Village.” While some residents watched the pilot on his way back

New Hampshire Boat Museum Program Invites Community To Set Sail

Registration is now open for Community Sailing, a program for adults and youth developed by New Hampshire Boat Museum (NHBM) and the Town of Wolfeboro’s Parks and Recreation Department. Designed to teach basic sailing to youth and/or adults, Community Sailing classes take place on Albee Beach on Lake Wentworth and out on Lake Winnipesaukee.

According to Kerry Lynch, NHBM board trustee and chair of the museum’s community sailing programs, Community Sailing equips people of all ages for fresh water or offshore sailing.

“Our program is designed first and foremost to be safe and, secondly, for fun,” he said. “It’s unique because it offers something for everyone—from a total beginner to an experienced sailor looking to hone their skills.”

Individuals may learn in a variety of boats, as they range from 9’ Optimist Sailing dinghies and Sunfish to 15’ racing sloops and a 22’ keelboat. Over the course of 21 years, NHBM has taught more than 2,000 youth and adults about sailing.

This summer, NHBM will also offer Sport Sailing, a program designed for ages 14 to 70 and over with some sailing experience who would like to “up their game.” “The course will use Sunfish and racing sloops with some amount of competition,” Lynch added.

Aside from the diverse experiences it offers sailors, NHBM Executive Director Martha Cummings said Community Sailing is further distinguished by the quality of its instruction. “Our instructors are US Sailing Certified Level 1 Instructors, so program participants are getting the absolute best guidance possible,” she said.

Lynch agreed and added, “Summer camp style boating programs generally don’t have this level of instruction, so our Community Sailing provides a top notch sailing experience.”

Registration for Community Sailing is now open. To register, or for more information about pricing and dates, visit wolfeboro.recdesk.com.

4 — THE WEIRS TIMES, Thursday, April 20, 2023 —
Dr. Chris Gnanakan, Ph.D, D. Min, D.D

It has been a long time.

So long that I had developed a false sense of security.

Like many of you, it has been months since I had to deal with them. While they are here, we get used to them, expecting them every day. They become a part of life. We know we will have to put up with them for a while and we suck it up and deal with the burden.

What else can we do?

But then they suddenly disappear, and slowly fade from our day-to-day existence. Things seem brighter and happier and we often, after a few months, forget they were ever a part of our lives.

Still, inevitably, they show up again and when the first one arrives, we are caught unprepared and we feel that sense of doom spread across our psyche as we know that since it is only early 2023, that this time they will not only be here for several months, but almost into 2025.

Yes, bulky political mailers are once again showing up in our mailboxes.

Having a small, old-style mailbox attached to our house, I catch a glimpse of one of them from a distance when I first arrive. I can see it from my car as I pull into the driveway.

What is that giant, 8x11 postcard sticking out of the mailbox? Are those giant pearly whites I see grinning from ear to ear? Is that really what I think it is? It is only early April. How can this be?

Yes, the 2024 campaign season has begun.

Of course, seeing it before I even get out of my car gives me a small advantage in preparing my psyche for the onslaught. I feel sorry for those with P.O.

Boxes at the local post office who don’t have a clue what is about to befall them as they turn the key, open the metal door, pull out the unusually bulky amount of mail.

“What could this be?” shouts a voice in their heads with a twinge of excitement. After all, it has been a long drawn out winter and the sun is now higher in the sky and anything beyond the usual stirs the senses that have long been in hibernation.

But then a sense of doom and gloom overtakes as they soon realize it is an oversized political mailer and, like the arrival of black flies, this will not be the last but, in fact, just an inkling of the swarm that will soon emerge.

Yes, April of the year before a presidential election is early for a sighting of one of these mailers, but the political climate has changed of late and over the years we have seen them spring from their cocoons earlier and earlier.

At this stage they are rather tame. They are big and bulky, but the message is usually on the positive side. Full of hopes and dreams for the future if only they will be the chosen one.

But, as we all know, as the months go on, they soon turn ugly and nasty. No longer is it about the vision of a brighter tomorrow, but more on the order of how dark the future will be if you choose incorrectly.

The smiling faces on the mailers soon turn to the scowls and evil looks of those who oppose them. The focus turns to who is the worst as opposed to the best.

It grows slowly over time. One or two now, then three or four and then, like the proverbial frog in the pot of boiling water, we are hardly aware that they are increasing more and more as the next election season gets closer. Soon, we are inundated, but it is too late. They are everywhere. Not just focusing on the

presidential race, but now more on state and local candidates as well.

The excitement over seeing the weekly flyer in the mailbox from the local grocery store telling of a great deal on pork chops and two for one family-sized bags of chips will slowly fade as it fights for space amidst the cardboard monstrosities paid for by various organizations. Even a great deal on smoked ham can’t be seen with the same amount of positive enthusiasm when it is packaged with a handful of political mailers that are telling me that same ham will soon be out of reach of my pocketbook if I choose incorrectly.

Trying to ignore them is a futile effort. Even with the mindset of just instantly throwing these mailers into the trash once they arrive, there will still be enough for you to see. After all, even to accomplish this task takes at least a glance at them as you gather them in your sweaty palms. You will still catch a glimpse of some of what they have to say, and the negative message still finds its way into your subconscious.

It will still be a while, I realize, until my small metal mailbox becomes overworked from the excessive weight of the plethora of oversized mailer full of angry faces and claims of near apocalypse if the improper choices are made in the voting booth.

For now, I hold my breath in anticipation of what is to come and chastise myself for not taken better advantage of the good times.

muslims turning the tide in school culture wArs

pAlestiniAn ArAB terrorism & the west’s morAl ApAthy

In a slap to Muslim girls at Stuyvesant High School, the school is cancelling single-sex swim lessons, even though swim instruction is required to graduate. That forces the girls to choose between preserving their modesty and getting a diploma.

Count on Muslim families to fight back and likely prevail. Nationwide, Muslims are taking up the battle in schools to protect traditional religious values, including modesty.

Move over, Roman Catholics, evangelical Christians and conservative Jews. Reinforcements have arrived, and they’re turning the tide.

Even in the Ivy League. After weeks of protests by female Muslim students, Yale University is switching its campus housing policy for the coming academic year to offer singlegender dorms and bathrooms.

From Michigan to Virginia, Muslim parents are showing up at local school board meetings to oppose graphic sex education and gender fluidity indoctrination. Their engagement is impacting politics. More Muslims are voting Republican, concluding that the Democratic Party is trampling Islamist values.

In Dearborn, Michigan, left-wing Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib opposed the Muslim parents in her district protesting sexually explicit materials in school.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration continues its lurch to the extreme left. President Joe Biden’s Department of Education announced double-barreled rule changes last week, one favoring transgender athletes in elementary and middle school, and the other revoking a Trump-era commitment by the department to protect religious clubs and associations on college campuses. Flipping the bird to people of faith twice in a single week.

The Democratic Party is blowing off traditional values. Sexual modesty is a core value in Islam. Muslims observe a dress code and guard against physical contact between sexes once students reach adolescence.

Title VII of the Civil Rights

Last week, Jews all over the world marked Passover, the celebration of the Jewish exodus from Egypt. As we congregated around seder tables to read from the “Haggadah” -- the compendium of texts telling the story of the exodus -- we said the following words: “And this (God’s blessings and the Torah) is what kept our fathers and what keeps us. For not only one arose and attempted to destroy us, but in each generation, they stand to destroy us, and God saves us from their hands.”

The Dee family, a family of seven originally from Great Britain but now from Efrat, Israel -- the so-called West Bank, the heart of Biblical Israel -- undoubtedly said the same words. Then, on Friday, Rina Dee (15), Maia Dee (20) and their mother Lucy (48) went on a drive through the Jordan Valley on the way to Tiberias, just miles from where Joshua would have brought the Jews across the Jordan River. There, they were attacked and shot to death by a Palestinian Arab terrorist who riddled their car with 20 bullets.

Hamas, the governing Palestinian party in the Gaza Strip and a powerful force in Palestinian Arab areas of Judea and Samaria, celebrated the murders. “We congratulate the Jordan Valley operation and warn the occupation against continuing its aggression against our Palestinian people and the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque,” they said. Meanwhile, husband and father Rabbi Leo Dee gave a eulogy for half of his family: “Let the Israeli flag today send out a message to humanity which is: We will never accept terror as legitimate. We will never blame the murder on the victims. There is no such thing as moral equivalence between terrorist and victim.”

Sadly, the media played the moral equiv-

alence game, treating the murder of two sisters and their mother as yet another round in the supposed “cycle of violence” between Israelis and Palestinian Arabs. Of course, in that “cycle of violence,” Palestinian Arab terrorists target innocent civilians and then hand out candies when they achieve their evil goals, while the Israeli Defense Forces seek to root out and destroy terrorists. But to the media, it’s all the same. “Daughters of British rabbi die in West Bank drive by shooting,” touted The Sunday Times (U.K.), leaving no explanation for who had committed the shooting or why. “Two British sisters killed and mother injured in West Bank shooting,” tut-tutted The Guardian; “2 killed in West Bank after Israel strikes Lebanon, Gaza,” the Associated Press lied by omission.

The Biden administration has been little better. In recent weeks, as terrorism metastasized, the Biden administration urged Israel to “de-escalate,” as though any state could ignore its moral duty to defend its citizens from routine acts of terrorism. Instead, the Biden administration summoned Michael Herzog, Israel’s U.S. ambassador, to stress “the importance of all parties refraining from actions or rhetoric that could further inflame tensions leading into the Ramadan, Passover and Easter holidays.”

This vile moral equivalence motivates terrorists to murder civilians and step up other violence. After all, there’s no downside. When the media treat legitimate self-defense as terrorism and terrorism as legitimate self-defense, terrorists thrive. And they are thriving today, raising the specter of violence all across Israel: 18 civilians have been slaughtered by terrorists in Israel since Jan. 27. As terror increases, the necessity for larger-scale intervention grows, too. Then, the same media and Left-wing governments will decry the “cycle of violence” again, fostering yet more terrorism.

Significantly he took steps to decouple much of Brazil’s vibrant commerce from using the U.S. dollar and shifting the trade instead to the Chinese currency, the Yuan.

During a high profile visit by the Brazilian president to Beijing, Lula was feted by his largest trading partner and moreover took the opportunity to expand its political and diplomatic relations with China. Communist party Chairman and President Xi Jinping stated, “As comprehensive strategic partners, China and Brazil share extensive common interests.”

Equally between 2007 and 2020, Brazil emerged as the primary destination for Chinese investment in South America reaching $70 billion. Beijing views resource rich Brazil as an economic and political giant, not only among the BRICS but as a player in what’s generally described as the Global South.

Lula has re-embraced Brazil’s enchantment with China and made his fifth visit to the Mainland along with 200 political and business figures.

We’d sit at the family warf, and he’d point up at the Pierce Island bridge and say, “Cod fish were so plentiful when I was a kid that I used to catch them off of that bridge.” Having spent most of my life traveling 15 to 30-miles out to catch them, only to see the cod season completely shut down, it makes hearing stories of catching cod in the Piscataqua River almost unimaginable. When the cod season was reopened with a one fish limit, taking my kayak out for them seemed like a lofty goal to most, but having worked on lobster boats and seeing the number of cod caught in lobster traps, I knew it wasn’t farfetched.

My good friend Eric

Patrol

Harrison catches cod in his kayak off the coast of Massachusetts. I had known about Eric catching cod in his kayak for a few years. He lives in Mass and does a ton of kayak fishing. When the season was completely closed, he would catch them as by-catch when he would fish for cunner, black sea bass, and other inshore bottom dwelling species. When Massachusetts opened a two-week cod season, I would often hear of Eric’s inshore cod dinners. Now that most of New England has a two-week spring cod season, fishing for them is becoming more common.

Spring cod can often be found in waters as shallow as 60-feet. This year I headed out off the coast of New Hampshire. I fished a few spots on my way

out that were 60-feet deep on steep structure, which can be anything from a hump to a drop off. I wasn’t marking any fish on my fish finder or feeling any bites, so I proceeded to move out toward deeper water. There was a nice piece of structure adjacent to much deeper water that I wanted to make my way to. It ranged from 70-feet deep to 130-feet deep, which I knew would allow me to cover a lot of different depths until I found the right area.

Along my way I would stop on an area that looked “fishy” and drop a line. I was fishing out of my Old Town Sportsman Autopilot 136 kayak, which has a Minn Kota motor with Spotlock. Spotlock is an anchor mode that uses GPS to hold the kayak on a fixed position. This

allows me to really dial in that spot on a spot and hold my position should I find a productive spot. I managed a couple of spiny sculpin, which are cool looking, but too much work for me to mess with to eat. Finally, after working my way out almost 3 miles, I had a good bite and felt what I believe to be a cod on my line. Unfortunately, it came unhooked, but I was at least in the right area. I worked that area, fishing from 90-feet to 130-feet, and started catching cod in 110feet of water. I managed three 20-inch cod in about an hour, but the limit is one fish at 22-inches, so I fell short on my fresh cod dinner.

The lures I was using were metal jigs made by Daddy Mac Lures. I caught fish

Letters From God Letters From God

QUESTION: What Do You Say To Those Who Accuse You Of Hating Those Who Don’t Follow You?

I have heard the comments of those who make the accusation that I am a hater. In fact, I have heard every critical and condemning attack on my character. I know your thoughts even before you think them. “O Lord you have searched me and you know me you know when I sit and when I rise: you perceive my thoughts from afar.” (Psalm 139:1,2).

These accusations have come to me from a myriad number of people who are practicing things I have lovingly sought to confront with the truth and the consequences of living contrary to my design. I don’t know if you have realized that in accusing me of being hateful, how hateful your comments are toward me. You are practicing a form of projection in which you fail to see your own problem and instead project them on others, in this case me.

I need to remind you that, whether you believe me or not, I am God, your creator, and the source of life. I also want to remind you that for those who say they don’t believe in me and my existence and that I should leave them alone, you should listen to your-

self. You are inadvertently speaking to me as though I do exist, by chastising me for interfering with your lifestyle. I have made it clear that in the core of each person, I have placed the knowledge of my existence and you are unwittingly manifesting this truth (Romans 1:18-21).

You would not be alive without me physically bringing you into existence. Now, you are dying, all of you, because you rebelled against me and have followed lies and deceptions that lead to death now and forever, after your physical death. If you ever hope to “live” now and forever, your only hope is to be restored to me so that I can impart life once again. Since I have never sinned or practiced things that I have condemned, I can’t have this relationship with you unless your sins are removed.

You can’t do this yourself because you are already sinful. All you can do is wait for the inevitable eternal destiny of death. Only through my Son, Jesus the Messiah, can you be restored and only by receiving his sacrificial payment for your sins.

I your creator God, have been willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice of my son, Jesus, to get you back. It is for this reason that I write, not hate, as you so often accuse, but love.

I would also like you to consider whether you would accuse a Doctor of being a hater, Nazi or Fascist, who rebukes you for

drug or alcohol abuse and strongly suggests that you recognize the damage it is doing and change your ways? Would you accuse the Doctor of being a hater if they informed you that they needed to do surgery to remove a part of your body that is malignant and threatens to consume the rest of your body, leading to death? Would you accuse the Doctor of being a hater, Nazi or Fascist, if they reported that there is nothing they can do because your sickness or disease has progressed beyond repair?

If you did in any of these situations you would be sadly wrong and foolish. For a Doctor to say any of these things, when you are in that life situation, would be a statement of love, not hate. If you were wise, you would heed their advice and their knowledge of healthy and unhealthy practices and take responsibility and change your ways while there is still time. If you do and you recover, I would highly recommend that you thank them afterwards for loving you with hard but true words. Consider the same for me as I seek to heal your spiritual sickness.

Finally, I wish to inform you that the moniker of Nazi or Fascist, so often and casually attributed to me and those who also seek to speak truth, is grossly misused and overused. It is illegitimately used by many in order to create undeserved fear and hate as well as to

intimidate those who love me and love you. Consider that the Nazis and Fascists were evil people trying to overthrow legitimate governments with evil methods. They couldn’t endorse democratic methods because they knew they would never ascend to power. They bludgeoned their way to power through censorship, violence and manipulation. This sounds eerily like the woke agenda to overthrow long-standing, virtually timeless values and customs and constitutional principles, most of which have been practices because so many, since the inception of your country, looked to me as God and my word as the basis of truth and life.

I will see you when you stand before me as your creator and judge at the time of death. Your response to my word, values and Son’s substitutionary sacrifice for you will determine whether you will remain with me or I send you away from my presence, giving you what you chose, to live eternally among those whose evil nature remain unchanged. May my truth spoken in love draw you back.

I love you, God

What Goes Into A Retirement ‘Paycheck’?

During your working years, you generally know how much money you’re bringing in, so you can budget accordingly. But once you’re retired, it’s a different story. However, with some diligence, you can put together a “paycheck” that can help you meet your income needs.

Where will this paycheck come from? Social Security benefits should replace about 40% of one’s pre-retirement earnings, according to the Social Security Administration, but this figure varies widely based on an individual’s circumstances. Typically, the higher your income before you retire, the lower the percentage will be replaced by Social Security. Private pensions have become much rarer in recent decades, though you might receive one if you worked for a government agency or a large company. But in any case, to fill out your retirement paycheck, you may need to draw heavily on your investment portfolio.

Your portfolio can provide you with income in these ways:

• Dividends – When you were working, and you didn’t have to depend on your portfolio for income to the extent you will when you’re retired, you may have reinvested the dividends you received from stocks and stock-based mutual funds, increasing the number of shares you own in these investments. And that was a good move, because increased share ownership is a great way to help build wealth. But once you’re retired, you may need to start accepting the dividends to boost your cash flow.

• Interest payments – The interest payments from bonds and other fixed-income investments, such as certificates of deposit

(CDs), can also add to your retirement income. In the years immediately preceding their retirement, some investors increase the presence of these interest-paying investments in their portfolio. (But even during retirement, you’ll need some growth potential in your investments to help keep you ahead of inflation.)

• Proceeds from selling investments – While you will likely need to begin selling investments once you’re retired, you’ll need to be careful not to liquidate your portfolio too quickly. How much can you sell each year? The answer depends on several factors — your age, the size of your portfolio, the amount of income you receive from other sources, your spouse’s income, your retirement lifestyle, and so on. A financial professional can help you determine the amount and type of investment sales that are appropriate for your needs while considering the needs of your portfolio over your lifetime. When tapping into your investments as part of your retirement paycheck, you’ll also want to pay special attention to the amount of cash in your portfolio. It’s a good idea to have enough cash available to cover a year’s worth of your living expenses, even after accounting for other sources of income, such as Social Security or pensions. In addition, you may want to set aside sufficient cash for emergencies. Not only will these cash cushions help you with the cost of living and unexpected costs, but they might also enable you to avoid digging deeper into your long-term investments than you might like.

You may be retired for a long time — so take the steps necessary to build a consistent retirement paycheck..

The Simple Feast

sAlAd Anyone?

The Simple Feast Simple The Simple

The word “salad” need not conjure up visions of shallow Styrofoam bowls on some assembly line with a few pieces of shredded cabbage (two purple and one of pale green), a couple pieces of opaque orange carrot the thickness of tissue paper, a tomato slice that would give Pepperoni more appeal, and a garnish of two bread crumbs, all propped precariously atop a tasteless yellowish peridot chunk of lettuce heart swimming in some vinegar based “dressing.”

Only would those few caterers willing to put their already dubious reputation on the line dare serve the above. You know the type, they served these “salads” with BBQ Hog Jowls and grits on fake Chinet and plasticware at Aunt Florie’s fourth wedding; this one, to her third cousin twice removed. I can just hear her protests of “But this time honey, it’s different! Honest!”

But seriously, salads need not be too complicated as almost anything goes on salad in today’s culinary world. And this is the beauty of salad at home, because here too anything goes, making the salad a very

effective way to use leftovers and for those nights where time is short. All it takes is a little bit of pre planning combined with imagination and even then not much. More like planning through the week. This is the situation I found myself in recently. It was a Thursday evening and I had nothing to show for dinner. I began to rummage around in the fridge. The boy had just come home from

five weeks of “couch surfing” (house sitting) so between his leftover groceries and ours the fridge was over stocked with odds and ends.

A head of lettuce, some pulled chicken meat, an English Cucumber, some odd blocks of cheese, a tomato, a green pepper, some limp but edible celery. Moving to the pantry I found a can of black olives, a bag and a half of croutons, some cheddar flavored

pretzel pieces, and some sunflower seeds, walnuts, and a handful of dried cranberries. A loaf of Italian Bread in the bread bin without any white or greenishblue dots is always a plus so I grabbed that too.

Setting the oven to 400 degrees F. and after getting out the cutting board, a few knives, and a peeler, I grabbed the butter, garlic powder, and

12 — THE WEIRS TIMES, Thursday, April 20, 2023 —

There’s a new sports movie out called “Air.” It features our Boston friends Ben Affleck and Matt Damon playing Phil Knight and Sonny Vaccaro respectively and it’s the true story of how Michael Jordan got his amazing sneaker deal with Nike in 1984.

Knight founded Nike in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports—along with Bill Bowerman. The company took its name from Nike, the Greek goddess of victory. In the early days, Knight sold shoes out of his car trunk before the company took off. Nike focused on selling running shoes well into the 1980s, largely ceding the lucrative sneaker market to Converse and Adidas. A basketball entrepreneur who scouted young hoopsters and who ran b-ball camps as well as all-star games, Vaccaro was working for Nike in 1984. He pleaded with Knight to invest some money to get some big basketball names to commit to Nike for sneaker deals. But Knight and his advisors were reluctant, especially when Sonny pushed them to sign Jordan, who’d be a rookie with the Chicago Bulls that fall. And Jordan’s agent, David Falk, had already indicated that Michael

was leaning toward either Converse or Adidas.

Vaccaro correctly sensed Jordan’s star power and recommended Nike put all its eggs into a Jordan basket. He then flew to North Carolina to try to sell Jordan’s parents on a Nike deal—enraging Falk. The film develops the subsequent story in an entertaining and informative way. Folks old enough to remember those days will enjoy the journey down memory lane, replete with 1984 news, music, and names. Like Mel Turpin. (Look him up.)

Against the odds, Vaccaro pulled it off

and the rest is hoop history. The sneaker deal led to the Air Jordan franchise which not only changed the basketball world but the entire sports business universe. The Nike-Jordan endorsement precedent would inspire many similar shoe deals involving billions of dollars worldwide.

Having earlier enjoyed “Air” at the Gilford Cinema 8—and just happening to be in Portland, Oregon, last week—I talked Beth into a side trip to Nike World Headquarters in neighboring Beaverton, where some of the movie was filmed. While on the road we coincidentally

listened to a random radio news item about a pair of Michael Jordan’s sneakers. After the Bulls beat the Jazz in Utah to win the 1998 NBA title, Jordan gave his sneakers to a Utah ball boy. Shortly thereafter he retired. The news item explained that those very sneakers just sold for a record $2.2 million. The story didn’t elaborate on whether the former ball boy sold them, but I do hope that was the case. We pulled into a parking spot, and I put on my Plymouth State cap and (a la Phil Knight) retrieved a basketball from the trunk and posed for a

Clean, safe drinking water is essential for human health, especially for children, who are particularly vulnerable to certain contaminants. Local, state and federal policy has had some success in helping clean up drinking water supplies, but there are new reports of emerging contaminants linked to child development. Here’s what to know about some of the most common water contaminants linked to child health, along with information about how to filter them:

• PFAS: According to Environmental Working Group scientists, the presence of Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in American drinking water is much

wider spread than previously thought. Contamination of drinking water or ground water has been detected at almost 1,400 sites in 49 states. This large class of chemicals -- which

includes perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) -- is added to a range of products and packaging. They are collectively referred to as “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down easily and can last thousands of years. They can also build up in the human body. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the blood of nearly all Americans is contaminated with PFAS. A new medical research study recently reported PFAS is altering hormonal and metabolic pathways needed for child growth and development.

• Lead: The effects of lead contamination in water have become more well known since the crisis in Flint, Mich.

became widely reported on in 2016. However, the Environmental Protection Agency estimates that there are between 6 to 10 million lead service lines still use in the country. When pipes that contain lead corrode, lead can enter drinking water. Harmful to everyone, even minimal exposure can have a significant impact on children, and has been linked to nervous system damage, impaired hearing, learning disabilities and impaired blood cell function..

who’s dining in my gArden?

You take a walk through the garden and find branches trimmed, flowers missing or bark damaged. Of course, the culprit is nowhere to be seen. You may have suspects in mind but a close look at the damage and surroundings can help you identify who is dining on your plants. Knowing this can help you reduce the risk in the future.

Rabbits can be found year-round in the landscape. They have sharp teeth, making a 45-degree clean cut much like your bypass pruners. Their damage usually occurs within their 3-foot reach.

They eat a variety of flowers and vegetables throughout the spring and summer. As these plants fade in fall, they begin dining on trees and shrubs. You may find bark gnawed and branches, stems, and buds clipped off the plants. Deer tear vegetation, leaving a ragged tip on browsed plants. You may find damage on a variety of flowers, vegetables, trees, shrubs, and plants pulled out of the ground with the distasteful ones left behind. In fall, the bucks rub trunks of young trees damaging the tender tissue below that transports water and nutrients between the roots and leaves. Deer usually feed at dusk but as they become comfortable around people they can often be seen dining during the day.

Voles are brown rodents that look similar to field mice with small ears and short tails.

Their trails of disturbed grass found as the snow melts may be your first clue that they are present. These rodents are active year-round, unlike moles that hibernate for winter. They eat seeds, plant roots, and bulbs not insects like moles. As the snow recedes, you may also notice bark damage on trees and shrubs. They leave ¼” side-by-side grooves in the wood at the base of the plants.

Squirrels are fun to watch; that is until they eat all the birdseed and damage your plants. They dig bulbs and uproot other plants, eat and bury nuts in the lawn and garden, and take a bite out of multiple tomatoes, strawberries, and more. They damage trees by ripping off the bark and clipping off branches. If that wasn’t enough, they may gnaw on structures and furnishings. Treating the damaged area and a 12”

radius around it with a repellent can help discourage more damage.

Chipmunks are active from spring through fall. They don’t hibernate but are inactive in winter depending upon their food stash to survive. You will find them digging in potted plants, hanging baskets, and rock walls. They eat grains, nuts, berries, seeds, insects, mushrooms, carrion, young birds, and bird eggs. Their tunnels can be 20 to 30 feet long and are well hidden. The openings are only 2” in diameter with no surrounding mounds of soil.

Commercial and homemade scare tactics are an option. Unfortunately, most of these critters have become accustomed to people and are not deterred. Motion-activated ones are a bit more effective but make sure they are not annoying to you and See WHO on 22

tips to mAintAin your home’s exterior

Now that you’ve made sure the inside of your home is clean as a whistle, it’s time to extend that can-do attitude to the exterior. While getting maximum enjoyment from your outdoor living areas is very important, let’s not forget that routine home maintenance plays a major role in protecting the overall integrity of the structure and prolonging the life of your home. Ready to get started?

Inspect And Repair

Your Roof

Springtime is the perfect time to get out on your roof to check for any damage that may have happened during the winter months. Repairing minor damage can be a quick do-ityourself fix, or you can

always save yourself the time and leave it up to the experts.

Clean Gutters

Leaves and debris can build up in your gutter lines, leading to excess water that can seep through walls. This can eventually damage your drywall and moldin around the home. With the help of a ladder to access those tough-toreach areas, check all potential points where clogging could occur, and using a pair of gloves, clear out any visible debris.

Trim Trees

As beautiful as trees can be, faulty tree limbs can have damaging effects on your home, especially if there are high winds or a spring storm rolls in. With a hand

saw or trimmers, work through the branches to remove anything that doesn’t look completely stable. If you have tall trees in your yard, consider hiring a professional tree-trimmer to take care of the hard-toreach areas.

Refresh Outdoor Grills

Spring is when you begin to experience beautiful days, perfect for an outdoor BBQ. Before you bring out all of the fixings, make sure your grill is properly cleaned before its first use of the season. Grab a grill brush to scrub any visible residue from the grill plate and use a damp rag or wipe to clean off the exterior.

Check Fire Extinguishers And Smoke Detectors

Protect your home against household fires by ensuring you have a fully functioning smoke detector and fire ex -

tinguisher. A 10-year smoke alarm costs between $15 to $20, and you can purchase a fire extinguisher for around $30-40.

Inspect and drain the hot water heater

Begin by draining whatever water is left in the tank (don’t forget your bucket), then stir up the sediment at the bottom of the tank by opening the cold-water supply valve briefly. Keep repeating this process until the water comes out clean from the hose.

Prep For Spring Storms

As you get ready for sunnier days, there is no time like the present to prepare for changing weather—-including hail and severe storms. Assemble an emergency kit and check that your insurance policy is up to date. Visit the Hippo blog for more expert advice.

spring cleAn your home office with these eAsy tips

(SPM Wire) In the pursuit of work-life balance, you may mentally compartmentalize your home office from the rest of the house. But that doesn’t mean this space should get a pass where spring cleaning is concerned. Here are three easy ways to spruce up your workspace this season:

1. File: Make time to finally tackle that growing stack of paperwork. Decide what needs to be filed away, what needs to be shredded, and what can simply be recycled. (This would

be a good time to manage those digital files as well.) If you don’t already have a dedicated filing system, put one in place to keep things organized moving forward. Short on floor space? Use a wall-mounted paper organizer instead of a traditional filing cabinet.

2. Dust: Improve indoor air quality for healthier, happier working hours. Periodically dust your desk, your computer and monitor, the baseboards, lamps and the tops of ceiling fans. Vacuum the carpet and rugs and sweep

the floor. Also, consider using an air purifier to reduce dust, allergens and other air pollutants. If you’re not sensitive to pollen, invite a fresh breeze by cracking open a window on warmer days.

3. Disinfect: After a rough cold and flu season, it’s a good idea to reset your workspace by disinfecting the items you touch most frequently, such as doorknobs, cabinet handles, light switches, your keyboard, your mouse, landline receivers and handheld devices.

in a 2022 study, were noted to be found in human blood. While

the health effects of microplastics are still largely unknown, they are emerging as a com-

mon drinking water contaminant to be aware of.

Some Solutions

To learn about the contaminants found in your drinking water, you can access the Environmental Working Group’s Tap Water Database. No matter what you learn, it’s a good idea to filter your water.

Many home water filters only filter certain contaminants. It’s important to look for a water filter that removes chemicals including PFAS, heavy metals including lead, and that provides broader protection against emerging contaminants such as mi-

croplastics. One option is the pitcher filters and dispenser filters offered by LifeStraw, which remove not only lead, PFAS and microplastics, but also bacteria, parasites and a variety of emerging contaminants, including pharmaceuticals.

When it comes to child health, PFAS and lead contamination in drinking water is a concerning problem at the local and national level. Fortunately, household solutions exist to make water safer for individuals and families.

your neighbors.

Fencing tight to the ground with a secure gate and at least 3 feet – preferably 4 feet – high is effective for preventing rabbit damage. Deer on the other hand need a much taller fence. Although they can jump 7 feet or higher, a 5-6’ fence is often enough to keep them out of smaller gardens. Sink fencing 4 to 6” into the ground to protect plants from voles.

Repellents labeled for controlling the critter that is causing the damage are another option. Organic Plantskydd (plantskydd.com) is labeled for repelling, not harming, all of these critters so you only need

one product. Since it is rain and snow resistant, you won’t need to apply it as often. Always read and follow label directions for the most effective control. A bit of defensive action goes a long way in protecting your gardens and landscape from hungry critters this season.

on my signature series Daddy Mac Lures Nervous Minnow and their 2.7-ounce Diamond Chain Jig. I had a few bites on soft plastics, but a forecast wind of west at 5MPH turned out to be southeast at 10MPH, which kicked up some pretty good chop once the tide turned against the wind, so I decided to head in.

Many people feel all that work isn’t worth it for one fish at 22-inches, and that’s okay. It won’t be worth it to everyone. For me, I was more concerned with finding and catching cod than how many I could keep. So, on that front, mission accomplished. However, one of the biggest aspects of a successful fishing trip is familiarity. Knowing where to look at a given time of year, what water temps the fish prefer, and what lures to use are half the battle. When exploring new waters, you at least have a starting point. Safety should always be

paramount. With the combined air and water temp being less tan 120 degrees, I wore a

dry suit, always wear my PFD, and carried a VHF radio with me in case of emergency.

some shredded Mozzarella. Cutting and splitting three chunks of bread from the Italian loaf I buttered each half, sprinkled some garlic powder and some dried Italian herbs onto each and finished them with shredded mozzarella. Into the oven they went. Now it was time to work on the salad.

Giving the head of lettuce a good “whack” on its root knot against the counter top and then breaking it free from the cello wrap, I plucked the knot out and tossed it aside for the girls. (Our chickens.) A bit of leaf culling and a few chops with the kitchen knife and there’s a good foundation for your salad. On top of this slice and dice a pepper, peel a carrot and either keep peeling or grate it or chop it up if you’d rather. Dice up a tomato. If

you have some green onion or a purple onion maybe some of this thinly sliced but we’re not big fans of raw onion in this house. That limp stalk of celery, well that can be disguised by a simple fine dice. No longer limp but it still has crunch. Blocks of cheese? With just a few cuts, those blocks quickly turn into small bite size chunks of cheese and are so delicious on a salad. And if you haven’t yet, why bother making a mess of the grater? Now that’s a hearty and healthy foundation for a salad!

From here you can customize for individual tastes. The protein on the salad? How about some cashews or walnuts? Maybe a boiled egg? Nearly every week I will cook up a batch of boiled eggs, half will become egg salad and the other

half will go into a container for boiled eggs. Now I know I´m going to sound like I’m older than your granny when I say this but, boiled eggs really are an easy lunch, a snack on the go, or a good salad add on. And what a great way to get your protein! I also make some sort of chicken at least once a week, usually over the weekend or on a Monday night, making sure I have left overs. Once chilled and picked off the bone when I have a few minutes, I now have clean chicken meat to use for chicken salad sandwiches or pulled chicken. This is great for any number of hot or cold dishes later in the week. This week was leftover roasted herb garlic chicken. (Another Simple Feast!) A salad topper is just one more great idea for pulled or sliced chicken. And chicken salad

made with a touch of BBQ sauce, honey, and mayo is really good too! Either in a salad or on a sandwich, try it sometime, you will not be disappointed. Crumbled bacon or chopped ham is always a good protein for a salad. Delicious warm or cold, it hints of wood smoke, maple and or honey and spices. And when coupled with a hard boil egg sliced or crushed on top, this all adds to the finishing aspects of a salad. Too, steak is always a good topper, again hot or cold, always delicious, particularly if it is Sirloin Tips. You can quickly pan sear it at the last minute before serving or leftover, precooked and sliced into bite size pieces. Even those Friday night leftovers make a good Sunday night salad. That Teriyaki Steak from the Chinese takeout,

cut up into bite size pieces on top of some cold LoMein on a bed of mixed greens with an Asian inspired dressing and some cashews and mandarin orange segments is always delicious!

I will often keep a can of pears, peaches, or mandarin segments in the fridge during the summertime. Cold peaches and cottage cheese are two flavors that are not just for eighty year olds. Honest! The sweet peaches or pears really do complement the slight sour notes of cottage cheese. Once opened, do not leave canned fruit in the can, always use it or place leftovers in a sealable container. This makes a great lunch time snack! Delicious cold fresh fruits like sliced apple, orange, and grapefruit are always good on a bed of crisp Boston head

lettuce for a summer salad with perhaps some dried cranberries, cashews, cold pulled or diced chicken meat and maybe even some toasted shredded coconut sprinkled on top? Mmmmm… Summer is coming! But why wait? Try it tonight!

Once your foundation is done, customize to the likes of those you are serving. Or better still, make it a buffet night. A big bowl of chopped lettuce on the end with a tray filled with all sorts of veggies and bowls of toppers. Some croutons, corn chips, or potato sticks for a salty crunch, and maybe some seeds, nuts, berries or fruits for a touch of sweet goodness. And don’t forget a few salad dressing favorites. Now that’s a Simple Feast!

Enjoy.

FEAST from 11

and that their song is a loud whistle. But to fully describe what a cardinal sounds like requires a much more lengthy answer.

The bird that I find rather complicated is the tufted titmouse. You wouldn’t think titmice would be complicated as they appear

to be rather inconspicuous. Describing what they look like is easy enough as the males and females look alike.

But, describing what they sound like opens up a whole new can of worms.

The most common and well-known song of the titmouse is the loud and clear whis -

tled “peter peter peter.” But that is only a fraction of the story. The titmouse has many other vocalizations.

Even the “peter peter peter” song has several variations. It also has a two-note “keep her” song with the “her” descending. It has a harsh, scolding call somewhat reminiscent of an excited house wren. Then there’s the high-pitched “see-see” call. Finally, there’s a song that sounds a lot like a black-capped chickadee, which is extra confusing because they often travel with chickadees.

Who knew a simple bird like a titmouse could be so complicated? Learning to “bird by ear” is difficult enough, but when a single bird has half a dozen or more vocalizations, the challenge

becomes greater.

Last week I wrote about the Merlin birding app that recognizes bird sounds in the wild. The other day I was sitting in the back of my truck having lunch at work. I back into the parking spot so I’m facing the woods at the edge of the lot. There are buildings behind me, but I feel as if I’m sitting in the middle of the woods.

I heard a bird song that I didn’t recognize. I knew it sounded familiar, but I couldn’t place it. I launched the Merlin app and started a recording. It immediately picked out the bird as a tufted titmouse. Damn, I thought, for as long as I’ve been birding, I should have known that. But it wasn’t the common “peter peter peter” song or the chickadee-like song. It was the “keep her” song. I don’t hear that one often enough to associate it with titmice. Thankfully, the app bailed me out. I have a feeling it won’t be the last time the app bails me out. Birding is never as simple as it seems.

Like many birds, cardinals have a call and a song. In fact, cardinals have many songs.

to earth, others saw the airplane, or parts of the plane, falling to earth over a four mile path on Mount Monadnock .

Again, quoting the Manchester Union Leader, “The canopy of the plane landed in the back of the home of Glen Scribner on Route 101 here and the seat became imbedded in ice on Dublin lake.” The jet plane continued going southwest after the initial explosion, which left Lt. Linman unable to control it and a second explosion was thought to have occurred over Marlboro.

Charles Porter, who was outside hauling wood on that exciting April morning, reported that he saw the plane fall in three pieces, coming to rest at the foot of Mount Monadnock. Mr. Porter and John Lougee went in search of the fallen jet and were reportedly the first to find the bulk of the fallen aircraft.

The wreckage found at this location was

scattered over several acres. The fuselage had fallen into a swamp behind the summer home of Joseph Panetta of Dorchester, Mass. and the plane’s wings were nearby, as were several unexploded rockets.

Meanwhile, the state officials had started their search to find and recover the wrecked plane. Dublin Police Chief Thomas Hyman joined with the State Police and Conservation Officers in their search for the wreckage. Four helicopters were dispatched to look for plane parts, including one from Westover Air Air Force Base in Massachusetts. A fourengine plane was also involved in the search.

The pilot, meanwhile, was taken to Gilman’s Garage which was near the spot where he landed, and Dr. Franklin W. Sterling was brought to the scene to check on his condition. Lt. Linman was shaken by his experience, but declined to submit to a complete physical examination.

He inquired about the damage inflicted by the

fallen plane and was relieved that nobody on the ground was injured. He did say that he had become chilled because he lost his helmet when he was ejected. Before heading back to the air base which was but about five miles away the pilot was taken by the State Police to view the wreckage.

Captain Raymond Tagge, from Westover Air Base, came to the scene to conduct an investigation, but he told reporters it might be “some time” before they would determine a cause for the crash.

The two pilots were on duty for the Air Defense Command flying for the 49th FighterInterceptor squadron at Hanscom Air Force Base. They were in Sabre-jets that usually carried 104 2.75 inch rockets.

The Dublin and Marlboro crash was not the only one that took place in the United States in the year 1956.

On November 4, 1956 a U.S.A.F. F-86D Sabre jet airplane, fly-

ing out of Youngstown Air Force Base in Ohio, with an intended destination of Ethan Allen Air Force Base in Vermont, crashed in the woods three minutes after taking off on a dark and foggy night.

The pilot, Lt. Thomas L. Peterson, who was just 23 years old, died in the crash.

Earlier in the year, on May 11, near Emerson, Nebraska, two F-86D Sabre fighters collided in the air and

fell to the ground. The pilots both bailed out and parachuted to the ground.

But to close this article on another topic from April of 1956, we see in the news from that year that Laconia’s Scott and Williams companies 1,580 employees were “showered,” not with rain, but with news of a bonus to be added to their pay. The hosiery machine manufacturer announced

that its employees would be receiving a bonus amounting to a weeks pay. While stating that the bonus reflected the satisfactory result of the company’s production so far that year, the announcement also stated that the action “is not to be considered as creating a precedent.”

All employees except Senior Officers were to receive the bonus pay. May your April showers be good ones!

Act of 1964 protects an employee’s right to practice religion in the workplace, but there is no comparable statutory protection for students. Muslims are waging the battle one campus demonstration and school board meeting at a time, often winning.

Muslims are powerful at Yale. In 2021, undergrads elected a Muslim woman to be student body president. And on March 10, Yale acceded to demands from the Muslim Student Association, Orthodox Jews at Yale and other religious groups to provide single-sex campus housing. Muslim women students had protested that with men in the bathroom,

they couldn’t even remove their hijab.

Modesty is the issue at Stuyvesant High School, too. Brian Moran, assistant principal of physical education, told the student newspaper that the girls’ single-sex swim classes clashed with other scheduling priorities. He made it sound like a mere scheduling inconvenience was justification enough for the change, and told the girls to wear full-body burkinis. Sorry, but those still cling to the body when wet.

New York City’s Board of Education website promises trans students “alternative arrangements” for anyone with “a need or desire for increased privacy.” Why

should Muslim students get less? One in every 10 students in the city’s school system is Muslim.

Last September, Muslim women at Syracuse University waged a battle for swim time without men in the college pool and won a concession that starts next fall.

In Utah, the Muslim Civic League worked with the Sikh and Jewish communities to pass a state law in February allowing school athletes to wear turbans, hijabs and modest pants and tops in competition instead of the regulation form fitting uniforms.

Luna Banuri, the league’s executive director, said: “All

faiths have modesty standards. We believe this affects multiple communities.” Maryland and Illinois recently passed similar laws.

In Bethel, Ohio, a coalition of Muslim and Christian parents are suing to preserve single-sex bathrooms and locker rooms and halt a rule change that would allow biological boys to use the girls’ facilities.

Most Muslims still vote Democratic, but the shift is beginning. According to a Wall Street Journal exit poll, 28% voted Republican in the 2022 midterms, a doubledigit increase over the 2018 midterms.

Republicans are gaining ground as more Muslims con -

clude the Democratic Party doesn’t show regard for Islamic values.

In every generation, the story is the same: In each generation, there are those who seek to destroy the Jews, and in every generation, through the grace of God, they fail. But that doesn’t relieve those who retain any measure of decency from standing up against evil terrorists. The alternative is apathetic complicity -- and that apathetic complicity costs lives.

Paul for saying, “Most of the masks you get over the counter don’t work.”

But what they said is true. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its guidance to say cloth masks are not very effective. And now a big study failed to find evidence that wearing even good masks stops the spread of viruses.

Probably the most blatant censorship was Twitter’s shutting down the New York Post’s reporting about Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Twitter wouldn’t let users decide for themselves. The company just called the Post’s report “potentially harmful” and blocked users from sharing it.

Facebook, as usual, was sneakier, suppressing the story instead of banning it outright. That’s what they do to my climate change reporting.

Today, the media admit the Post story is true. But they don’t admit they were wrong. Now they just say things like, “Nobody cares about Hunter Biden’s laptop.”

Bad as the media are, what’s worse is that government wanted to censor.

Sen. Mark Warner complained, “We’ve done nothing in terms of content regulation!”

Fortunately, his colleagues were not as irresponsible as he; no censorship legislation passed. But government did apply lots of pressure.

The White House asked Facebook to kill what they called “disinformation,” even urging them to censor private WhatsApp messages.

Now that Elon Musk owns Twitter

and opened up the company’s internal files, we know that censorhip requests came from “every corner” of government, as journalist Matt Taibbi put it.

Even individual politicians tried to censor.

Maine Sen. Angus King’s staff complained about Twitter accounts that they considered “anti-King.” Rep. Adam Schiff’s office asked Twitter to suppress search results.

Fortunately, Twitter refused.

But the sad truth is that lots of government agencies and media tyrants want to limit what you read and hear.

At least now, we can speak the truth: COVID probably was created in a Chinese lab.

Masks are unlikely to provide much protection and requiring them can harm kids.

Hunter Biden did lots of sleazy things.

Self-appointed censors tried to shut us up, but eventually, the truth almost always comes out.

er BRICS countries?”

Rousseff, also a former Brazilian leader, currently runs the BRIC Bank in Shanghai.

In discussions with Chinese officials, an exuberant Lula asserted that world geopolitics must change supported by both China and Brazil. He insisted on trading in local currencies pushing aside the American dollar. Lula said, “We want to raise the level of the strategic partnership between our countries, expand trade flows and, together with China, balance world geopolitics.”

The Brazilian government announced a deal with China to trade in their own currencies, eliminating the U.S. Dollar as exchange. Saudi / Chinese oil sales are slated to do the same thing with some trade in Yuan. At this point such a shift is more semantic and symbolic; in the medium term however, such moves away from the American currency seriously undermine the role of the Dollar as the dominant Reserve currency.

Lula’s stance towards helping Ukraine in its conflict with Russia can be be described as tepid at best. He supports Beijing’s twelve point “peace plan” to end the war adding that Brazil can create a “Peace Club” to end the conflict.

Thus Brazil refrains from sending military supplies to Ukraine despite U.S. and NATO prodding; its government has turned down numerous Ukrainian requests to purchase weapons from Brazil’s significant defense industry. Lula commented, “I don’t want

to join the war…I want to end the war.”

Nonetheless Lula has carefully criticized Russian actions in Ukraine; Brazil voted in the UN General Assembly condemning Moscow’s invasion and occupation. Currently Brazil is serving a two year tenure on the UN Security Council. Recently Brazil along with Russia and China supported a stillborn draft resolution in the UN Security Council to investigate the mysterious explosions in September on the Nord Stream II gas pipeline linking Russia and Germany. There’s a notable political sea change transpiring. Lacking leadership in Washington the U.S. overlooks the vital importance of Latin American commercial links and seems oblivious to the steady weakening of the American currency.
