When Spring Sprung At The Homestead Then it’s springtime in New England, and all the birds are mating, It is the time for loving, saith the Lord, and not for hating.” Those verses were included in a column by Horace A. Fenton in the New England

Homestead magazine in the Spring of 1951. The magazine had its last year of publication in 1969, but the old issues can still be of benefit to farmers and others. Fenton observed that “It is in fact a good deal easier to love one’s neighbor in

the spring than it was last winter, or any winter for that matter.” He felt that our dispositions change when we have to deal with snow, slush, and ice. I could argue that it is easy to love your neighbor when See SMITH on 32

The Laconia VFW at the 143 Church St. is bringing comedy back with a double headliner event, Saturday May 21, at 8pm. The show stars Mark Scalia and Jason Merrill as the main performers in this three-person event. Tickets are $25 for private two seat tables in the first three rows and $20 for the rest of the table seating. VFW management was greatly encouraged by the 100-plus turnout on April 15 which was the Saturday before Easter and traditionally one of the slowest days of the year in terms of comedy show attendance. Scalia is a long time Boston based comedian who has performed throughout the United States and Canada including being an invited performer to The Boston Comedy Festival, Seattle Comedy Festival and the New Orleans Comedy Festival. The night’s other headliner, Merrill rose quickly through the comedy ranks and is now an established star regularly appearing at Giggles, Kowloon, the Mohegan Sun, top New England clubs as well as the Boston Comedy Festival.

A rose-breasted grosbeak sings from a perch in New England last week.

by Chris Bosak

May Birding Highlights

Contributing Writer

Where to begin? May is a firestorm of birding activity in New England. I’ll recap a few of my recent highlights and then expand, where necessary or otherwise interesting, in subsequent columns. A warbler by any other name - Many warblers actually have the name warbler in their name. Yellow warbler, chestnut-sid-

ed warbler, worm-eating warbler and so on. Many, however, don’t have warbler in their name. Common yellowthroat, American redstart to name a few. A few warblers don’t have warbler in their name and look like they belong in the thrush family. The ovenbird and waterthrushes (northern and Louisiana) could easily pass for thrushes with their brown bodies and spotted chests. Heck, the wa-

terthrushes even have thrush in their name. But they are all, indeed, warblers. That warrants a column unto itself. I’ll dig into that in the coming weeks. Dueling grosbeaks I heard a rose-breasted grosbeak singing in a tree during the tail end of one of my recent walks. I paused enough to find its perch. As soon as I spotted the beautiful bird, another male rose-breasted gros-

beak dive-bombed the original bird, and they started chasing each other through the woods. The action caught the eye of a third male grosbeak and that one joined in the chase as well. That was a first for me. Rose-breasted grosbeaks, with their white wing bars, are just as impressive-looking in flight as they are perched. The warbler tree Back to warblers for See BOSAK on 34

*A FLATLANDER’S OBSERVATIONS ON LIFE

Central Baptist Church of Gilford, NH Independent, KJV

Protest This! Is it me, or does it seem like there is some kind of new protest going on every week? Apparently, most everyone in the country by Brendan Smith i s e i t h e r o f Weirs Times Editor fended about something, offended by the people who are offended about something or not offended either way but are just looking for something to do. Of course, as Newton, the inventor of that fabulous fig snack said, “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” That is why every protest must be met with a counterprotest so as to keep his law relevant. I do acknowledge that some of these protests really are very serious, For instance, it wasn’t that long ago that dozens of people somewhere (I forget) unselfishly gave up an entire day so they could have their voices heard in protesting a restaurant that sells chicken sandwiches. I was never a big protester, it always seemed like too much work. But I have been paying attention, so I think I have a good idea how to protest, even though I’ll probably never go to one. Hopefully the protest you are going to has a particular subject you are protesting for or against (like a chicken sandwich restaurant). Without some kind of theme a protest really won’t gain much traction. For the sake of argument, and to not raise the ire of certain protesters so they plan their next protest around me since I offended them, I will just randomly make up an idea for a protest (which is usually the case anyway). Let’s pretend your protest has something to do with cucumbers. (I think that’s a safe bet since I have not seen too many protests for or against any

entral Baptist hurch

vegetable. But, in all fairness, I haven’t watched the news yet today.) First you have to wake up early and make some kind of sign to hold. Your sign should read something like “Save The Cucumber” if you are for or “Down With Cucumbers” if you are against. If you are really, really angry and against you should have a sign that reads something like “All Cucumbers Should Be Pickled” which will probably get you at least two seconds on the local news as part of their daily “Here’s Our Coverage Of The Latest Protest” segment. After all, getting on the news is what protests are all about. If no one else knows about your protest it is a complete waste of time. You might as well have been home watching a different protest on the news. It is good to have many things to be offended by so you can go to more protests and try to stay relevant. If you watch the newscast about a protest it will usually go something like this. “The Pro Cucumber Coalition came out in full force on the lawn of the state capitol here in Concord to voice their concerns over the latest bill to try and restrict people’s access to cucumbers bigger than five inches. The notorious vegetable has been linked by some cucumber scientists to an excess of flatulence over the years and contributing to climate change and some lawmakers want their sale regulated. They were met by a crowd of anti-cucumber activists who want even more regulations regarding ownership of cucumbers who believe no one should be allowed to buy a cucumber over three inches long Some protesters believe cucumbers should be banned entirely.” Then the reporter will go and pick out some protesters to interview and later they will edit that down for the newscast.

They will most likely end up with two angry interviewees like this on that night’s newscast. “I have a right as an American to buy any size cucumber I want. I work hard for my money and I should be able to buy any sized vegetable I want.” “No one needs a five-inch cucumber for any reason. That is just plain greed. They have no concern for the rest of mankind. It just stinks.” This helps give people watching the news an idea of why people are protesting, as well as to fill in space for the newscast. (Of course, if there is a major hurricane or other natural disaster, the interview segment may get cut for time purposes so as to at least have a minute of coverage about the devastating weather event.) In the crowd you will see signs like “My Salad, My Choice” and “Cucumbers Don’t Cause Gas, Celery and Carrots Do” and “Nuke The Cuke But Use Windmills.” If you want to have a good chance of making it on the evening news as one of the protesters, bring a megaphone with you. A good protest is nothing without at least one person with a megaphone and they are usually guaranteed to get at least a second of air time. (Make sure to wear a clean shirt as well.) At the end of the day people will start forgetting about the protest and by the next morning a new protest will be happening and everyone will focusing on that one. Then you can go into town and finally have a chicken sandwich at that new place now that the annoying crowds are gone. Brendan is the author of “The Flatlander Chronicles”,“Best Of A F.O.O.L. The Hunting Of Texas Campus Conservative Kelly Neidert Most graduating college seniors in America are in high spirits this month as they prepare for cap-and-gown ceremonies and extended family celebrations. But for Kelly Neidert, a firebrand campus conservative and marketing major at the University of North Texas in Denton, commencement is no ordinary rite of passage filled with joy and laughter. by Michelle Malkin Having faced escalating threats and Syndicated Columnist intimidation from a profane and godless student mob of intolerant liberals over the past two years, Kelly told me she is “hesitant” to receive her diploma on May 13. A woke vigilante, caught on security camera video, stalked her off-campus apartment and spraypainted the phrase “Stay home Nazi C---” on her door. After a Daily Beast hit piece against her and her conservative twin brother, “leftists started trying to go after my parents. One leftist twitter account posted a satellite image of my parent’s house, while others tried to get them fired.” A Change.org petition signed by more than 20,000 loons has called on the university to expel Kelly for her campus activism. On Monday, Kelly was notified by Twitter that her account had been locked for violating “community standards” against violence and hatred. The only violence in her tweets was the violence and hatred of her enemies. “I had a TikTok dedicated to exposing what goes on at my university and that was banned at 65,000 followers.” Meanwhile, leftist students and the local antifa cell will show up to events with instruments, airhorns, megaphones, etc., literally drowning out my speaking.” “If I do walk for graduation,” Kelly told me, “I will require a private security team to ensure that I am safe.” The 22-year-old Denison, Texas, native transferred to UNT in from a small conservative Baptist college in 2019. It was a “huge culture shock,” she recounted on Monday. “When I saw how far left the UNT campus was, I was honestly shocked. At that point I knew that there needed to be a conservative presence on campus.” And boy, did she establish a presence. Kelly revived a local chapter of the Young Conservatives of Texas, which broke off from the establishment-run Young Americans for Freedom decades ago. This See MALKIN on 37

For the Left, Children Are Either Obstacles or Tools In the aftermath of a leaked Supreme Court draft majority decision prospectively overruling Roe v. Wade, the Left in the United States has gone into full-fledged panic mode. That outsized panic has maniby Ben Shapiro fested as a variety of unSyndicated Columnist convincing or blatantly immoral arguments: the argument that abortion is a necessary adjunct to women’s freedom -- as though contraception doesn’t exist, and as though women are never responsible for their own sexual decisions and the consequences thereof; the argument that unless society provides for any number of government programs, abortion should not be prohibited -- as though the solution to lack of universal child care is the death of the child; the argument that conservatives will next attempt to outlaw interracial marriage -- an absurd slander on its face. Underlying all of this is a perverse and inverted view of children’s role in society. To the Left, children in the womb are utterly disposable; at best, women may choose to preserve their lives, but if not, they have no separate interests to be considered. In fact, children are to be treated as potential obstacles: as Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said this week, “access to reproductive health care, including abortion, helped lead to increased labor force participation; it enabled many women to finish school. That increased their earning potential.” This explains why the Left has now embraced the language of “forced birth” to describe laws protecting the unborn: pregnancy is no longer seen as the possible biological outgrowth of sexual activity, but as a dramatic foreign imposition on women. The default, for the Left, is childlessness; pregnancy is somehow unnatural. Thus, the entire Democratic Party apparatus now refuses to countenance even the mildest restrictions

on even late-term abortion. Once children are born, the Left then sees them as sources of grief and pain for their parents. This, too, cuts in favor of abortion. As former President Barack Obama once stated about his daughters, “if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.” Babies are life-sucking entities, depriving women of opportunity and freedom. Which explains why the Left has now embraced the argument that unless government somehow relieves parents of their responsibility to raise and care for their own children, abortion ought to be broadly available. As children grow, the Left sees them as the center of recruitment efforts on behalf of their favored politics. Children should be indoctrinated in the ideas of racial essentialism and historic guilt, so as to turn them into political widgets on behalf of utopian social change; children should be confused about the nature of biological sex and gender, so as to justify the sexual attitudes of narcissistic adults. Hence the Left’s outsized rage at Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill, which merely banned sexual orientation and gender theory indoctrination for children through third grade. As the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus sang in 2021, “You think that we’ll corrupt your kids, if our agenda goes unchecked. Funny, just this once, you’re correct. We’ll convert your children. Happens bit by bit.” No wonder President Joe Biden told teachers two weeks ago, “They’re all our children... They’re not somebody else’s children, they’re like yours when they’re in the classroom.” All of this is fundamentally indecent. Adulthood lies in one primary task: protecting and defending children. This means bearing children is a gift, not an obstacle; this means that children should not be treated as autonomous adults while adults escape responsibility for their own decisions. This means raising children in line with valSee SHAPIRO on 37

Organic BS

by John Stossel

Syndicated Columnist

Activists have convinced Americans that “organic” food is better -- healthier, better-tasting, lifeextending. As a result, poor parents feel guilty if they can’t afford to pay $7 for

organic eggs. This misinformation is spread by people like Alexis Baden-Mayer, political director of the Organic Consumers Association. She says organic food is clearly better: “The nutrition is a huge difference.”

But it isn’t. Studies find little difference. If you still want to pay more for what’s called “organic,” that’s your right. But what’s outrageous is that this group of scientifically illiterate people convinced the government to force all of us to pay more. Congress has ruled that GMOs (genetically modified food) must be labeled. Busybodies from both parties supported the idea. Politicians like Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass., said, “It doesn’t cost any more. This idea that ... this ... will raise food prices is ridiculous.” It’s McGovern who is ridiculous. The U.S. Department of Agriculture

says the GMO labelling will cost from $598 million to $3.5 billion. “But the public wants GMOs labelled,” say advocates. “Surveys show that.” Of course they do. Ask people if DNA in food should be labelled, and most say yes. Yet DNA is in everything. Polling is a stupid way to make policy. The idea of modifying a plant’s DNA may sound creepy, but people have cross-bred plants and animals for years. “The corn we have today, there’s nothing natural about that,” I say to Baden-Mayer in my new video.

“What native people ate, we’d find inedible.” Baden-Mayer laughs at that. “You’re saying indigenous corn is somehow inferior because you’ve seen it dried and it has tiny little kernels?” she asks. “Yes,” I reply. I’ve tried to eat it. “That’s another myth of the industry,” she responds. “People like you believe that.” I sure do. I also believe it’s good that genetic modification lets us alter nature more precisely, gene by gene. That’s better and safer than the more haphazard crossbreeding that’s been done for years. Cause, effect, crisis seems a recurring political mantra. While Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has rightfully captured the headlines, Syria’s unending hell has endured for over eleven years. Syria’s crisis which began during

Addressing the UN Security Council Geir Pederson warned, “My message today is simple: focus on Syria, the current strategic stalemate on the ground and Syria’s absence from the headlines should not mislead anyone into thinking that the conflict needs less attention.” Indeed Syria remains among the greatest humanitarian crises of this era and current suffering is at its highest level since the war began 11 years ago. Envoy for Syria stated, “While the displacement caused by the war in Ukraine is tragically catching up, Syria remains the biggest displacement crisis in the world, with 6.8 million refugees and 6.2 million internally displaced persons, half the pre-war population.” The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) puts the matter into stark detail for the period 2022-2023. In an appeal covering the vast humanitarian challenges facing Syrians from physical insecurity to housing, health and education the report calls for $4.4 billion in aid. Thus far $361 million has been delivered, that’s less than ten percent! Primary donors thus far are Germany ($190 million), USA ($60 million) and the Netherlands

($15 million). “Syria today is one of the most dangerous places on earth to be a child,” remarked UNICEF’s Director Catherine Russell, adding, “An entire generation is struggling to survive… Nearly 90 per cent of people in Syria live in poverty.” Later at a humanitarian pledging conference in Brussels, U.S. UN Ambassador Linda ThomasGreenfield stated, “I’m proud to announce that the United States will provide over $800 million in new humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people.” She stated poignantly, “The United States remains the world’s largest humanitarian donor to the Syrian people. Foreign Aid And The U.S. Constitution by Hal Shurtleff Director, Camp Constitution Alton, NH

Not Yours to Give or Sockdolager, a free market classic, is an allegory about the proper role of government. In the story, Congressman Davy Crockett is seeking reelection in Tennessee. He visits a farmer and asks for his vote in the upcoming election. The farmer tells Crockett that while he thinks he is an honorable man, he cannot vote for him due to his unconstitutional support of a bill that gave money to victims of a fire in Georgetown. The farmer, Horatio Bunce, tells Crockett that he had no constitutional duty to give money to the victims. If Congress can give money to one group Bunce explains,

it can give it to anyone. The money that is in the treasury is for the purpose of covering the costs of the federal government’s constitutional duties. Crockett is convinced that he should not have voted to give taxpayers’ money to the fire victim. A few days later, Bunce hosts a barbecue for Crockett with hundreds in attendance. Crockett tells the group that Horatio set him straight and pledged never to cast another unconstitutional vote again. Bunce endorses him and he is easily reelected. A few months later, a bill to bestow funds to the widow of a War of 1812 general is introduced. The bill was on the verge of passing when Crockett gave a speech and explained to Congress that if every member of Congress

gives a week’s worth of their salary to the widow, it would be more than what the bill proposes, but he cannot vote for a bill that was unconstitutional While the above story does not directly concern foreign aid, it does concern unconstitutional spending by Congress. Article 1, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution is where you find most of the powers delegated to Congress. The U.S. Constitution grants Congress the power to coin money, and regulate the value thereof, borrow money, lay, and collect taxes but it grants no power to Congress to give money to foreign governments. History of U.S. Foreign Aid The first time the U.S. government sent taxpayer’s money to a

foreign nation was a $50,000 grant to the nation of Venezuela to aid the victims of an earthquake. That would be equivalent to $5 million in today’s money. In WW I, the recently former Committee for Relief in Belgium gave the war-torn nation $387 million. In the early 1920s, the American Relief Administration led by future president Herbert Hoover, gave the Soviet’s $20 million. In March of 1941, before our involvement in WW II, we created Lendlease which gave nations fighting the Axis powers over $50 billion of weapons. It was considered a loan but most of it was never paid off. In 1947, the United States gave Greece $300 million and Turkey $100 million. Then came the Marshall Plan, named after General George Marshall, who once bragged that “with a stroke of a pen,” he disarmed 50 Nationalist Chinese Divisions. From 1945 to 1955, the Marshall Plan gave foreign nations $12.5 billion. Since 1946, the United States has given foreign nations, including those hostile to us, trillions of dollars. Today, 20 U.S. government agencies distribute over $50 billion annually to foreign nations. This doesn’t include the billions we are sending to Ukraine. And yes, we are still sending money to Afghanistan. While we are over $30 trillion in debt, foreign aid goes on unabated and will continue to do so until American voters elect members of Congress who will uphold their oaths to the U.S. Constitution. Letters From God This series of Letters From God is an attempt to put the thoughts of God as revealed in the Scriptures as they relate to individuals and the nation of the USA.

In this regard, I would like to ask you to consider Psalm 50, that I had one of my servants, Asaph, write, that aptly describes your present condition, even as it did Israel’s in the past. Their problem, like yours, was that they forgot me, God. “Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces” (:22). When they did, and made themselves “gods,” they redefined my word and will and made their word and will the basis of their behavior. Of course, they thought that it would bring a panacea of blessings but when they didn’t follow the design of me, the Designer, their house, their nation, collapsed on them as a result of my judgement. I began the Psalm by reminding them, “The Mighty One, God, the Lord speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.” “Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and around him a tempest rages. He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people” “Hear O my people, and I will speak, O Israel, and I will testify against you: I am God, your God.” (:1, 3-4, 7-8). You see, I never changed but they did. They made themselves “gods” and perverted my word and will. You are doing the same. I would continue in this Psalm and reveal first, that this was all done while maintaining a form or religion but without my presence or power. I rebuked them by

saying, “But to the wicked, God says: What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips?” (:16) So many of your leaders declare their religious affiliation and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. In fact, I pointed out, “You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.” (:17) I went on to list some of their many sins and violations of my will. “When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers. You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue for deceit. You speak continually against your brother and slander your own mother’s son.” (:18-20) O, the theft of the resources of your countrymen spent on values and social issues that are an abomination to me. O, the lies that pour forth from your leaders and officials with brazen shamelessness. O, your tolerance for sexual perversions, which I expressly and repeatedly condemned. O your attempts to attack each other and destroy one another to keep yourselves in power and control. Your “gods” have led you into a path of “life” that will lead only to death, Because I alone am God and I have not changed, my standards are still in effect, and I will judge you accordingly. Your problem is that because you have relied on the prosperity, which I gave you, and because I have not already brought judgement, because I have been giving you time to repent from your sinfulness, you have used

Letters From God

QUESTION: What Are Your Thoughts On The Social Issues Of Our Day? Your social issues are changing rapidly but my thoughts about them are unchanged. In the next weeks I would like to speak to most of these evolving issues but first, let me give you my general thoughts on the way you are facing them. It has been 60 or more years since you have taken a hard stand against me and my will in your Country. Over those years, your pace of defection from me and distortion of my laws and moral values has quickened and hardened to the point that you are in utter rebellion. As a result, you are experiencing many unforeseen consequences, from expunging me, my Word and my will from the public and private affairs of your once great nation. I am God, and I have not changed, but you have. Your decision making on virtually all of your social issues, has not only caused you to lose my blessings, it has also caused you to inherit the natural consequences of failing to follow the design of me, the Designer. You are coming apart. You have also incurred the supernatural consequences of experiencing my wrath and judgement.

these blessings to walk faster and farther from me and my will than ever. “These things you have done, and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you.”(:21) You thought I would bow to your “gods” and their values and go along with your abominations. I will never be like you. Let me close with a warning, with the last words of (:21). “But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face.” The clouds of my judgment are forming. You don’t have much time. Give up your “gods” now and return to me and my will, so you will be blessed instead of cursed. I love you, God These letters are written by a New Hampshire pastor.

Toronto Maple Leafs by Mike Moffett Contributing Writer

Many remember that Yankee Stadium chant we’d hear when the Red Sox visited the Bronx. “Nineteen-Eighteen! Nineteen-Eighteen!” It was a taunt to Red Sox Nation, reminding us of the 1918 BoSox World Series triumph— before Babe Ruth went from Boston to New York. Between 1918 and 2000 the Yankees won 26 World Series to Boston’s 0. That’s right. “Zero.” Of course, the Curse of the Bambino ended in 2004 when Boston won an improbable title, sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals after overcoming a 3-0 ALCS deficit to finally down the Bronx Bombers. It’s always fun to see taunters get their comeuppance. But a similar chant still reverberates in Canada, at Montreal’s Bell Centre, when les Canadiens host their NHL rivals from Toronto—the Maple Leafs. “Sixty-Seven! SixtySeven!” I first heard that chant while attending a Leafs/ Canadiens at the Bell Centre—which replaced the Montreal Forum as “la maison des Canadiens” in 1997. Bewildered at first, I soon figured it out. The Leafs have not won a Stanley Cup since 1967, whereas les Canadiens won ten Cups between 1967 and 1993. Toronto’s

New England Wolves Junior Team in Need of Host Families

May 13, 2013. Bruins defeat Toronto in historic Game 7 comeback. 55-year Stanley Cup drought is the NHL’s longest. Poor Toronto. Its NHL franchise was founded in 1917 and the Leafs won 13 Stanley Cups through 1967. Toronto has perhaps the strongest hockey tradition anywhere and is the site of the Hockey Hall of Fame. But the Leafs struggle with a Canadian version of the “Curse of the Bambino.” Cast your minds back to May 13, 2013. The Boston Bruins hosted the Leafs in Game 7 of the NHL quarterfinals. Toronto led 4-1 in the final period with less than 10 minutes to play. After each goal the network TV cut to a street in Toronto, filled with raucous Leaf fans cheering wildly. I received a taunting text from a friend in Ontario. “Your Bruins are going down hard! Ha Ha Ha!” But the B’s cut the lead to 4-2 with a Nate Horton goal at 9:18. With just over a minute to play the B’s pulled goalie Tukka Rask for an extra skater. Milan

Lucic then cut the lead to 4-3. Then at 19:09 Patrice Bergeron tied the game to force overtime. He then scored the game winner at 6:05 of OT. Bedlam in Boston. The TV feed cut to that street in Toronto where thousands of Leaf fans stood silently. “The Curse of Patrice Bergeron?” It’s always fun to see taunters get their comeuppance, but I refrained from sending any texts to Ontario. Which brings us to 2022. The Leafs compiled one of the NHL’s best records this past season. But only time will tell as to if or when the Stanley Cup ever returns to Toronto and to the long-suffering fans at Scotiabank Arena. Interestingly, les Canadiens have not won it all since 1993—a threedecade drought of their own. So if or when the Leafs finally overcome the curse of Patrice Bergeron and bring the Stanley Cup back to Toronto, I look forward to hearing a new chant from Scotiabank Arena. “Ninety-three! Ninetythree!”

Like A Fish To Water

Contributing Writer

In my 16 years as a licensed NH guide, I’ve taken thousands of first-time anglers fishing, especially in kayaks. I can’t say that I remember all of them, but some definitely stand out more than others. Some were very difficult to guide, while others just seem to get it. I guess it’s that way with anything. My most recent trip was, in many ways, the same yet different. The same in that I took someone on their very first kayak fishing trip. Different because this time it was my girlfriend, Renée. With clients who are strangers, the possibility that they may discover they dislike kayak angling causes me no real anxiety. With Renée, the stakes felt a bit higher. Enjoying kayak fishing is by no means a requirement, but I think we both hoped she would like it. We planned to go flounder fishing, so our trip was planned around the tides. I know that one key to hooking (pun intended) new kayak anglers is to bring them out when the chances of catching are best. Many anglers spend a lifetime trying to replicate certain days they have had on the water. All it takes is one good day to retain some anglers for life. So, when

Renée was all smiles after catching her first flounder, and unassisted at that. I write of any anxiety around taking Renée kayak fishing, it is only because I wanted her to enjoy it. So, the timing of our trip was very intentional. We arrived at our fishing spot a bit later than I had hoped, but still right at when I consider to be prime time. Renée helped as we unloaded kayaks and gear, and she seemed to be taking everything in. How I unloaded, what order I unloaded things, where I put certain things in the kayaks. At one point, the kayaks were at the water’s

edge, and she kept looking back at a pile of gear that needed to go in the kayaks, like she knew it needed to go in the kayaks, but was patiently waiting for instruction so as not to miss anything that was taking place at that moment. I could be wrong though. Maybe she was thinking, “Is he going to forget that stuff?” We finished loading our fishing and safety gear into the kayaks and I gave Renée some instruction about how the Old Town Bigwater PDL kayaks operate, before

shoving her off and following behind. A few minutes in and Renée looked very comfortable. More comfortable than most. Getting used to kayak fishing can be daunting. There’s a lot going on, especially in salt water. Wind and current affect how the kayaks operate, and when drift fishing, boat control can be very distracting. Renée did great. She spent an hour or so getting used to everything, and then getting used to it all while fishing, and it wasn’t long before I looked over and saw her rod in the air, tip bouncing with what looked to be a fish on. “Do you have one?” I asked. “I don’t know, I think so,” he answered. She definitely had a fish on, but it came off just before she could get it to her kayak. This was a good sign. Renée now know what a bite felt like and what it felt like to have a fish on. With the price of meat, regardless of what it is, continuing to rise, every so often there is nothing wrong with going meatless, especially if there is enough real cheese to make up for not having meat in the meal. And not to worry, no soy beans were harmed in the making of this dish. However, I have been known to experiment, and successfully I may add, with tofu in a lasagna, but that is an article for another time. This is just a simple yummy veggie pasta bake with ordinary ingredients and just so happens to be the subject of this week’s Simple Feast. Have you ever set out in the kitchen with the intent to do one thing and all of a sudden life becomes a series of happy little accidents? No? Me neither. In fact, I do not believe in happy little accidents in the kitchen. Accidents in my kitchen usually turn out to be life altering, Pyrex shattering, pan scorching chaotic events with expensive repercussions. (I just pulled three stitches out of my middle finger earlier this week.) It seems like every 30 years or so my left

middle finger forgets to duck, tuck, and roll while I am slicing and chopping. Cutting a host of veggies for dinner a few weeks back (remember the Lo Mein recipe?) I got lost in the moment, a stray thought wandered into my mind, and then… BAM! That unmistakable feeling of, “That wasn’t a mushroom!” And dinner is now drive thru on the way home from the Urgent Surgeon. Being a

meat cutter does have its advantages, at least my knives are sharp. But let’s get on with the real story, Veggie Pasta Bake. Why a Veggie Pasta Bake? Well, I’ll stay away from the left of center arguments of geopolitical and environmental concerns associated with eating beef / meat because you will never convince me that Bessie is the primary cause for burning holes in the

ozone every time she “lets off a little steam.” Nor can I be persuaded that a “Nothing Burger” tastes better than a nicely aged Medium Rare Boneless Ribeye Steak smothered with sauteed peppers, onions, and mushrooms in a sauce made of pan drippings and brown butter served sizzling hot with real mashed potatoes. But I will agree that a Veggie Pasta Bake does have See FEAST on 35

The Hobo & Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad Prepares To Open For The 2022 Season The Hobo and Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad is advising the public that the 50+ miles of rail between Lochmere, NH and Lincoln, NH should now be considered active for the 2022 season. Various train operations will be taking place from now through December, including maintenance, excursion trains, special tourist trains and equipment moves. The Railroad would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that caution should be exercised at all times while around moving trains and to always expect a train. Other safety considerations to keep in mind include grade crossing signals which should always be

obeyed. Drivers should always stop when they hear whistle signals at grade crossings and should never try to beat a train at a crossing or park on, or near a railroad crossing. To further promote the message of railroad safety, the Hobo and Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad continues to work closely with Operation Lifesaver, a nationally recognized non-profit organization that works diligently to improve railroad safety through engineering, education and enforcement. “People need to be keenly aware of the potential danger around moving rail equipment, See HOBO on 17

(NewsUSA) - With its beautiful looks and remarkable durability, Real American Hardwood™ has long been a beloved material in American home interiors. “Homeowners are always looking for fresh and exciting ways to use wood,” says Linda Jovanovich of the American Hardwood Information Center. “They often find inspiration in the work of the best architects, designers, and decorators, sought-after talents who offer trend-

Don’t worry about mosquitoes breeding inside your rain barrel. Just use an organic mosquito control like Mosquito Dunks and Mosquito Bits (SummitResponsibleSolutions.com) in rain barrels and other water

features. Mosquito Bits quickly knock down the mosquito larval population, while Mosquito Dunks provide 30 days of control. They are both safe for people, pets, fish, wildlife and beneficial insects. Look for one with the spigot near the base of

This centuries old technique allows you to capture rainfall to use for watering ornamental gardens and containers. Always start with a call to your local municipality. Some have restrictions on water harvesting, but most encourage this practice and some even offer rebates or rain barrels at a discounted rate. Purchase a rain barrel or make your own from a large, recycled food grade container. In either case, there are some features to consider when purchasing, creating, and adding a rain barrel to your landscape. Make sure the top is covered to keep out bugs and debris. However, pools come with certain expenses, including your insurance. Homeowners are liable for anyone using their pool, and that means a bump in the cost of your home policy, according to Value Penguin. Redoing The Roof A new roof will not only give you peace of mind, but save you money on home insurance rates. Policy discounts for a new roof can be as much as 20 percent, according to Clovered.

Smart devices are great for functioning in your home, and in some cases can even lower your insurance rates. A report by Fox Business says smart devices like thermostats, smoke detectors and more may reduce your premiums, depending on the company.

Adding A Home Security System Like a new roof, adding a home security system will help you sleep better at night, knowing you’re protected. You’ll be happier about your insurance costs, too.

Adding A Home Security System Like a new roof, adding a home security system will help you sleep better at night, knowing you’re protected. You’ll be happier about your insurance costs, too. Policy Genius says installing a burglar alarm or home security system can save you between two to 10 percent on insurance premiums. Installing StormProof Windows Depending on the region where you live, new storm-proof windows are a great option to lower your utility costs and drive down those insurance premiums. Purchasing A Backup Generator A backup generator will keep the lights on and power running during a storm or severe

weather. Insurance companies will see an emergency generator as extra protection from burst pipes during a frigid spell, or replacing perishables after a lengthy power outage. Updating Plumbing And Pipes Poor plumbing can lead to a wide range of issues in and around your home, and water damage is one of the most common homeowner insurance claims. Installing Fencing Installing a fence around your property can add curb appeal, provide privacy and even lower your insurance premiums by limiting potential liability lawsuits. Alex Shoemaker is an avid DIYer but had little experience before purchasing his first home in 2019. A Family Handyman subscription was one of his first purchases after becoming a homeowner, and he’s been hooked ever since. When

he’s not working, he can be found fixing up his 1940s Florida home or relaxing on the beach with his family.

MYERS from 23 downspout diverter is another way to manage rain barrel overflows. When the rain barrels are full, this device diverts the water back to the downspout where it is carried away from your home’s foundation. Elevate your rain barrel on cement blocks, decorative stands, or similar supports. This provides easier access to the spigot for filling containers and speeds water flow with the help of gravity. A water pump will boost water pressure for a nice steady flow of water. Dress up your container with a bit of paint suited for outdoor use on plastic surfaces. And don’t worry if you are not an artist, you can hide your rain barrels with some decorative screens or plantings or upright shrubs, perennials or ornamental grasses. Just make sure you have easy access to the spout for retrieving water. Start your conversion to rain barrels one

downspout at a time. You can capture as much as 623 gallons of water from 1,000 square feet of roof in a one-inch rainfall. This can be a lot to manage when first adjusting to this change of habit. Disconnecting one downspout at a time allows you to successfully match the use of rain barrels and other rain harvesting techniques to your gardening style and schedule. The choices are many, making it easy for you to conserve water and grow a beautiful landscape.

Customize Your Doors And Windows With Unique Glass (StatePoint) While the functionality of your home’s windows and glass doors is important, experts say you shouldn’t neglect to consider aesthetics as well. “No matter the architectural style of your home, you have more choices than you may think when updating windows and glass doors,” says Ashley Ridenour, door and window marketing manager for ProVia. “Many of these options can add instant curb appeal, while also elevating the elegance, beauty and style of your home’s interiors.”

According to Ridenour, here’s how to

capture your unique personality when making this renovation: 1. Add glass doors: Create the perfect personalized entry to your home by opting for a front door with special glass, along with complementary sidelites. Today’s top-of-the-line glass entry doors are not only beautiful, they also provide UV protection, durability and energy efficiency for increased comfort. GLASS from 28 sliding glass or hinged patio doors. 2. Enhance privacy: Privacy glass allows light to filter in, while maintaining a high level of privacy for your home. ProVia carries five styles of privacy glass offering different levels of obscurity, which can be fitted to a wide range of door and window models and styles. 3. Beautify with ornamental glass: Decorative glass is created by precisely cutting, beveling, mitering and soldering glass components into artistically designed patterns. Mimicking the handmade sheet

glass of centuries past, the designs lend an elegant and vintage flair to ordinary door and window glass. Aesthetic imperfections like textural waves, striations and random air beads give each design its own unique visual character and charm. 4. Turn to color: Give your home a beautiful boost of color with custom hand-stained window and door glass. At ProVia, in-house glass artists create the design, and skilled craftsmen hand-apply the color fill to the glass. It’s an affordable way to get the timeless look of antique stained glass for your entry door, windows,

patio doors and even the glass in your storm door. 5. Opt for built-in blinds: Typically available in both white and neutral hues such as cream and tan, builtin blinds are another way to complement your home interior and add privacy. This is also a low-maintenance option for those who love a clean look -- because the blinds are in a sealed and insulated glass unit, they remain dust free. A few minutes later I had one on, but I too lost my first fish. Being a bit competitive, but in a fun way, I pointed out that we were both 0 for 1. She laughed but I could tell it was game on at that point. We fished along, covering as much area as we could. I finally put a flounder in my catch bag. I no sooner dropped my catch bag back into the water when I looked over to see that Renée had one on. Before I could get to her with my net she flipped the fish into her kayak and smiled. The flip looked effortless, like she had done it a thousand times before. As the day went on, Renée got more used to fishing from a kay-

Fenton said that asking the question “ When does spring begin?” here in New England, is something like asking “Where does the west begin?” I learned a new word to me by reading the April, 1951 issue of the New England Homestead, though it may not be new to you. Spring was described as being a great act of legerdemain. This word legerdemain came from the french meaning “light of hand” and was borrowed by the English and turned into “sleight of hand”. So it is used, I just learned, to mean trickery or deception. Spring means it is time to do the planting, and, in 1951, UNH researching concerning the “famous UNH Midget watermelon” was continuing. Some growers were expected to try out the Boston market in 1951. Charles L. Stratton had an article in the New England Homestead publication about the Smiling Hill Farm in Belknap County, New Hampshire. The Gilford farm was owned by L.A.Guild and managed by Harold Scott. Mr. Scott, we are told, wouldn’t have had to work so hard “if it hadn’t been for the magnificent view of Lake Winnipesaukee.” The area’s summer residents and tourists had been buying the land, including the best farmland, with the intention of building on them, apparently leaving Harold with approximately 30 acres of land to work on. To provide more pastureland for cattle Harold cleared an additional four acres of woodland, using a bulldozer to rid the land of tree stumps and boulders, after which he

Hampshire watermelon “went to town” the previous year with eight commercial growers marketing 11 tons of the new watermelon with great success. Glendon Poland of Enfield was reported to have grown seven tons of the Midget on a half an acre of land.

— THE WEIRS TIMES, Thursday, May 19, 2022 — by farmers in the district. Marshall S. Hodsdon of Meredith was the chairman of the board of supervisors in charge of its assignment. The pickle business was predicted to be good in New Hampshire in the summer of 1951, but, sadly, the word on peaches was: “New Hampshire will have no peaches to eat this season, unless they are imported.” The culprit? Low temperatures in December and January. The Belknap Farm and Home Show was held in Gilford at the

recreational area (Gunstock) with more than 4,000 in attendance. I think I was one of them. County agent Horace C. Ballard, was the committee chairman. Spring was and is an exciting time in New Hampshire, in the city and especially on the farm, though we sometimes have to wait a while before we can feel it has really sprung. Like in May, not March!

1950 ad for Farm House. Washing machine ad in 1951. SMITH from 32 something at the roadside farm stand Harold introduced. The 20 registered Guernsey cows produced 200 quarts of milk a day which were sold to a local milk dealer, but Harold was not a one product farmer. He raised farm produce that he could sell at the farm, including strawberries. He also had White Holland turkeys, which were ready to market for the consumer in six to eight months. A yearly crop of 200 chickens and 200 capons were also raised each year. These, along with the turkeys were frozen and sold as they were ordered. As I write this, 70 plus years later, those days have passed, things have changed, but the view remains. With but one cow to milk on our small farm when I was young, I learned to milk a cow by hand, but the milking machine was a tremendous time and labor saving device for larger farms. If the electricity was somehow cut off to

the farm, a big task lay before the dairy farmer, along with prayers that the power source for the milking machines would be quickly restored. In 1951 Rick Rutherford, the Grafton, NH County Agricultural Agent, from Woodsville, was “getting many of his dairymen to rig up their auto engine intake manifolds, so they will run the vacuum type milking machines, in case of an electrical failure.” Somehow, it has always seemed to me that though there is one New England made up of six states (though some people try to include New York), that there is a distinct difference between the northern three states and the southern three. I have even detected a difference in the northern three, having lived in each of those. Joe Harrington of the Boston Post passed on a story seventy or more years ago which indicates the disconnect was felt back then, even by six year olds. “A mother and her six-year-old son

from New Hampshire were visiting relatives in Natick, Mass., and at 7:30 the juvenile guest was advised to say his prayers and skedaddle off to bed. ‘Do I have to say my prayers down here?’ he asked his mother. ‘Why certainly.’ ‘ Oh,’said the boy slowly, ‘ I didn’t know they had God here in Massachusetts.’” I just read some complaints about the mail service and was reminded of a complaint in a local paper years ago, I think it was in the very early 1900’s, when some customers felt that they should be able to send a letter from Laconia to Boston that would go by way of the morning train, and have a reply returned on the evening train of the same day. An 1850 Boston and Maine Railroad timetable included an announcement of the operation of a Sunday Train. It warned Sunday riders, however, that “Persons purchasing tickets will be required to sign a pledge that they will use the tickets for no other purpose than attending church.” Celebrating Spring

in the year 1950, the “ Homestead” reported that the Belknap County Soil Conservation sub-district had recently purchased a 12-ton bulldozer for use

SHURTLEFF from 8 Sadly, far too many Americans have little to no understanding of the U.S. Constitution. Thankfully, that is beginning to change thanks to the efforts of national organizations like the National Center for Constitutional Studies, Hillsdale College, Liberty First University, and Freedom Project Academy, and local study groups like the one led by Darrell Pack in Alton, NH, Cathe-

rine White in Greater Boston, and our group, Camp Constitution. Let me challenge readers to start their own local Constitution Study Group, and the best way to start to get a free pocket copy of the U.S Constitution from me. BOSAK from 3 a minute. I was lured to a flowering apple tree by a northern parula, another warbler without warbler in its name. I tried, mostly in vain, to get a photo of the tiny bird as it moved from bud to bud looking for morsels. Finally, I stepped back from the tree and noticed the parula was not alone. A blackand-white warbler, blue-winged warbler and American redstart were also moving about the tree. I don’t think I had ever seen four warblers in one tree at the same time before. New tune to me I didn’t know what it was at first, but I knew it was something I hadn’t seen before. I heard a strange, but awesome, song coming from the thicket and wondered how long it would take me to find the singer. It wasn’t long at all as the whiteeyed vireo was on an obvious perch singing

its heart out. Southern New England is the northernmost range for this southern bird so I was surprised and happy to see it. Tons of towhees - I usually see a lot of eastern towhees starting at the end of April and going through the summer. This spring, however, I seem to be seeing way more than usual. I’ve seen at least a dozen individuals on more than one walk this spring. I hope that means good things for the towhee population. That’s about it for now. There are a few more hectic weeks of birding ahead until it slows down a bit as birds settle in to raise families. Many birds, of course, have already started that process and are perhaps already onto a second brood. Either way, the action will slow down as we approach summer, so get out and enjoy these wild weeks of spring migration. And, as always, let me know what you are seeing out there. VEGGIE PASTA BAKE

Preparation Time: 40 minutes Cook Time: 30 minutes Ingredients

1 Medium Onion Chopped (Large Dice) 1 Large Green Pepper Chopped (Large Dice) 2 Medium Carrots Sliced 5 or 6 Med to Large Mushrooms Sliced 1 Med Zuchinni Chopped (Large Dice) 1 Med Summer Squash Chopped (Large Dice) 3 Stalks Celery Chopped (Medium Dice) 2 Tablespoons Extra Virgin Olive Oil 1 Pound Box Penne Pasta 3 Cups Shredded Mozzarella 16 Slices Provolone

2 Tablespoons Italian Herb Blend or Fresh Herbs

2 Jars Spaghetti Sauce

Preparation - Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. - Chop all vegetables and toss together in a large bowl with the 2 Tablespoons of Olive FEAST from 15 its healthy merits and with the right ingredients can be not just flavorful but a flavor filled dish; and here’s why. It’s all about fresh! Fresh ingredients make this dish sing! Fresh herbs, fresh vegetables, and a host of quality delicious choice ingredients will make your Pasta Veggie Bake a deliciously simple dish. When you buy the best you can afford you will have the makings for a top quality meal. And we are now coming into the growing season so many of you may only need to go no further than your own backyard for herbs such as Basil, Thyme, Rosemary and some garden vegetables. Yes, I do realize that it is only the middle of May, but the growing season is upon us. Wandering the local “Wally Word” and the big box lawn and garden hardware store (think opposite of ¨High´s¨) revealed

a host of herbs not only ready to eat but ready to plant, as well as vegetable plants for sale. Imagine, for a few dollars investment, the amount you may spend at the drive up Latte window in a week, you too could take a mid-size planter and fill it full of choice herbs ready to plant and have a summer long herb ¨garden¨ right outside your back door. With a combination of vegetables such as zucchini, yellow squash, eggplant, peppers, or even carrots, all roasted in the oven; it’s your Veggie Pasta Bake, so get creative. Try different vegetables, fresh herbs, and maybe even a smoked cheese. Mix these ingredients with a pasta of your choice, and a quality tomato sauce to produce a delicious baked dish that is both hearty and scrumptious and dare I say even… healthy. The recipe included in this article is

Oil. - Spread coated veggies onto a sheet pan. And cook in the oven for 30 minutes. Remove pan and toss veggies at 15 minutes then return them to the oven for the remainder of time. - While veggies are in the oven, cook Penne according to directions on the box. Drain and set aside. - Combine the 3 cups of shredded Mozzarella and the 2 Tablespoons of Italian Herbs. Set aside. - Open the Provolone and set aside. - Open the jars of Spaghetti sauce and set aside. - Remove the veggies from the oven and reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees F. - In a 9x13 baking dish assemble by layer: sauce, pasta, veggies, 1 cup mozz., and 8 slices provolone. Repeat a second layer, and then top with more sauce and remainder of shredded cheese. - Bake at 350 degrees F. for 30 minutes and serve hot.

just the beginning, something to get you started thinking. You can substitute or add in Ricotta along with a shredded or grated cheese of your choice. You may want to make this with your own homemade tomato sauce or try an Alfredo instead. Make it your own, add the flavors that you enjoy. A baked pasta dish with all that cheesy goodness and delicious fresh herbs seldom receives thumbs down and nose snubs from anyone at the table. Making it with the freshest ingredients at hand is always a plus. Roasted vegetables, fresh herbs, cheese and a quality pasta and sauce make this a meal anyone will enjoy. Just remember to tuck those fingers out of the way as you prepare this Simple Feast. Enjoy!

METZLER from 7 step up and join us… After all, today, the humanitarian needs in Syria are greater than at any point since the conflict began.” Beyond the physical destruction Syria has suffered in the grinding battle between the ruling Assad regime and various factions of insurgent opposition movements, many of them Islamic Jihadi terrorists, this Middle Eastern country has seen massive refugee

flows to neighboring Turkey and further afield to Germany and Sweden. A teetering Assad regime was stabilized by Russian military intervention in September 2015. Vladimir Putin primarily used air strikes against Syrian militants as a “testing laboratory,” in this former Soviet client state. While Moscow has now withdrawn many military units, bases are being turned over to Iran’s Revolu-

tionary Guard units who equally support Assad’s rule. The Russian military has recruited Syrian militia units to serve as mercenaries in Ukraine! A witches brew of regime backed military units and Islamist militant forces oppose each other. The long sought political solution to Syria’s conflict remains as elusive as ever. As with the Ukrainians fleeing their homeland, most Syrians

wish to return home, but to what present and which future? Reconstruction aid for rebuilding the ravished country remains contingent on a workable political settlement. Thus securing a workable and lasting ceasefire would be a serious first step. “Syria remains a highly internationalized crisis,” asserted Geir Pederson at the Brussels meeting. Yet as he warns, “The current strategic stale-

mate on the ground and Syria’s absence from the headlines should not mislead anyone into thinking that the conflict needs less attention or fewer resources.” This carnage has continued for too long. Solve Syria’s crisis now!

— THE WEIRS TIMES, Thursday, May 19, 2022 — STOSSEL from 7 This new precision lets scientists make plants that save lives. In poor parts of the world, half a million people per year go blind due to lack of vitamin A in their diets. Many die. Scientists have created a new genetically modified rice that contains vitamin A. This “golden rice” could save those people. “I’ve heard of golden rice,” sneers BadenMayer. “That was a project that all of the chemical companies invested in.” I sneer right back. “Golden rice hasn’t succeeded partly because scientifically ignorant fools like you convinced the world that it’s harmful!” “I knew at a certain point you would resort to name-calling,” she replies. “But it doesn’t change the science on this.” Sadly, in some countries, people listen to advocates like her and believe that Americans want to poison them. One group of GMO fearful protesters invaded a golden rice field in the Philippines, ripping up all the plants. Thousands will die or go blind, needlessly, because the organic cult spreads misinformation. At least educated skeptics now understand that they were wrong about GMOs. The New York Times points out that many “quietly walked back their opposition” to GMOs. “The science is clear,” says a former opponent in The Wall Street Journal. “They’re perfectly safe.” The Philippines recently approved golden rice. But the hardcore zealots will never be

convinced. Baden-Mayer claims GMOs cause cancer. “We’re using more GMOs than ever,” I point out. “There’s less cancer now. Life spans keep increasing.” “Compared to when, 100 years ago?” she scoffs. Absolutely, yes. We live about 25 years longer than Americans did 100 years ago. Even compared to 10 or 20 years ago, we live longer. The National Academy of Sciences calls GMOs safe. So do the World Health Organization, the American Medical Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Food and Drug Administration and the USDA. But no amount of science will convince people like BadenMayer. “The GMO issue just has not been investigated enough,” she says. Organic promoters are wrong on the costs and wrong on the science. Sadly, they’ve won the battle of public opinion. MALKIN from 6 caused literal satanic witches to cast a “hex” on the new group with “intentions of misfortune.” Instead of holding stodgy, insular meetings conducted in hushed tones debating arcane tax law with wannabe GOP swamp creatures who look down their noses at rabble-rousing, grassroots activists, Kelly put herself on the frontlines of the campus culture wars. Armed with a megaphone, MAGA hat and the armor of God, Kelly shouted from the rooftops in opposition to COVID-19 lockdowns; held a Bible verse Easter egg hunt that triggered antiChristian vitriol online and in real life; and upheld true ideological diversity on campus by bringing prominent dissidents to speak. In February, she invited Jeff Younger, the Texas Army vet and father who made international headlines battling his ex-wife in court over her plans to turn their 7-yearold son into a girl, for a campus event. Younger, who vows to ban transgender sexual abuse of children in the school and courts, will be on the May primary runoff ballot for a statehouse seat. Hysterical tantrumthrowers shut down the event and forced Neidert to retreat to a janitor’s closet. The same allergic reaction to free speech and alternative thought was repeated again last week when Neidert invited conservative Christian family activist Tracy Shannon to warn about the alphabet mafia’s trans therapy coercion techniques. “I had to hire security for myself and my activist partner for the

event because I have zero confidence in the university protecting free speech on campus,” Shannon told me. “The university denied YCT a room for the event, the first time in history a room was denied for safety concerns.” I reached out to University of North Texas president Neal Smatresk multiple times seeking comment. No response. I reached out to Texas GOP Gov. Greg Abbott, a selfstyled champion of free speech, online and by phone as well. Zip. Nada. Zilch. Do University of North Texas alumni and donors give a damn about the witch hunt against this brave gal? Will any adults in Texas step up to the plate? Hello? “Capitulationist Republicans are the biggest enemy to Christian conservatives who stand up to the woke mob,” Kelly told me. “They fight for the left, but the left will absolutely never fight for them. When these capitulationist Republicans publicly denounce us, the left feels even more justified in their attacks against us.” I know exactly of what she speaks, having endured and exposed it for 30 years. “My story has been in the news cycle on and off since July of 2020,” she points out, “but Greg Abbott has never once spoken about it or publicly supported me. My message to Abbott is to stop talking and actually do something about it. I am hopeful that Twitter will be more fair about free speech since Elon Musk is taking over.” Pretty pathetic state of affairs, isn’t it, when the multibillion-dollar funded “conservative

movement” over the past 30 years outsources its job to a foreign tech mogul who has only recently awakened to woke tyranny? Neidert refuses to back down. After graduation, she will lead a new grassroots group, Protect Texas Kids, to “help combat the indoctrination in K-12 schools.” Her website is protecttxkids.org. Her simple advice to future conservative activists: “Raise hell.” Michelle Malkin’s email address is MichelleMalkinInvestigates@protonmail.com.
