Her Last Gift Is Making A Difference In Women’s Lives by Dan Seufert Weirs Times Correspondent

Sadie’s Place, the new transitional housing apartment building in Meredith for victims and their families of domestic violence and sexual

assault, was created by a Lakes Region woman who in her later life regularly donated part of her wealth to make a difference in the lives of area victims and their families, and wanted to leave one last gift.

But she had one condition on the project. As with her past giving, she wanted provide the money anonymously, because of what friends say was a selfless devotion to others that precluded her from seeking attention or rec-

Laconia Ward 1 Candidate Fellow Citizens of Laconia: As a native Laconian and having resided here for over 48 years I have decided to campaign for the Ward 1 city council member. My sole mission is to make our city a better and stronger community and steadfastly support the families, hard working citizens and small business owners that make this city great. I am not a politician and have no ambitions beyond this council seat. I am simply a hard working American, giving back to a city that has given me and my family so much, with the courage and common sense to make the tough decisions our tax paying residents want. I will be hosting a ‘Meet & Greet’ on Thursday, Oct. 21st from 6-7:30pm at the D.A. Long Tavern at Funspot and look forward to seeing you there. You will also find me at the Ward 1 voting location at the Beane Conference Center all day on November 2nd. I humbly ask for your support when you come out to cast your vote. Missed Opportunity To The Editor: It was truly comical to watch Senator Shaheen question General Milly J during the recent hearings regarding the withdrawal from Afghanistan. She questioned the rapid unan-

ticipated decline of the afghan army, listened to a nonsensical response from the General and finally smiled with no follow up questions. Senator Shaheen never acknowledged that sixty thousand afghan troops died defending their country while our Generals failed to support them from outside the airport during the limited evacuation. It is absolutely astounding she continued to defend bad decisions instead of getting to the truth. This is more than a missed opportunity as it is the last line of defense while Senator Shaheen continues to play politics. Kenneth Bowers Wolfeboro, NH.

America, Its Time To Choose

To The Editor: Ronald Reagan once said: “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” I got a phone call from the CDC today. They wanted to ask me some questions on their National Immunization Survey. What could be more terrifying than that? These are the same people under the leadership of Anthony Fauci and Rochelle Walensky who want to tear down America and re-build her as a Socialist/ Marxist “utopia”. These are the same people who are thrilled and excited that Australia is now in an extended lockdown; that unvaccinated

people there are social lepers, hunted down by the police if they violate what are clearly unlawful medical mandates. These are the same people who say that everyone in America must get The Jab, even though millions who’ve gotten over Covid now have healthy antibodies and a natural immunity against the virus. There’s also a national media blackout on over 16,000 people who died from adverse effects from taking The Jab. Many of these people had already recovered from Covid, and had healthy antibodies In their systems. But no, the government said: you must be vaccinated. This isn’t about public health and safety, this is about political control and population manipulation. There are other treatments that have been proven safe and effective in dealing with the Covid virus, but most Americans haven’t heard about them; again, you can thank the mainstream media for that information cover up. All you need to do is follow the money. The biggest drug pushers in America are the pharmaceutical companies that stand to make Billions from foisting these expensive “vaccines” on the public. Other Covid treatments that really do help people either aren’t mentioned, or are ridiculed as quackery, because they’re cheap and inexpensive, and the’re a threat to the money-making machine of Big Pharma and all those corrupted people who’ve received payoffs from them. The Destructive NH Tornadoes Of 1821

by Robert Hanaford Smith, Sr. Contributing Writer

“The winged messenger of death, which bore down through Warner on that fatal September day of 1821, was a tor-

nado, and so let it hereafter be forever known. The day and hour when this visitation occurred, in Warner, was Sunday, September 9, 1821, about five o’clock in the afternoon.” So we are told in Dr. Paul S. Shaw’s They Said It In Salisbury. Tornadoes are rare in New England at any time of the year; nevertheless, a series of devastating tornadoes struck New

England, including New Hampshire, in September of 1821, or two hundred years ago. There were five tornadoes reported to have taken place in New England on that September day 200 years ago. One was in Warwick, Massachusetts, two were in Vermont (Berlin and Pittsford), and two in New Hampshire (Haverhill and parts of Sullivan and Mer-

rimack Counties). The damage in each area may have been done by more than one tornado, particularly the most destructive one that began in the Cornish/ Croydon area of New Hampshire and continued to the Warner/ Boscawen town line. *A FLATLANDER’S OBSERVATIONS ON LIFE

A Sweet Memory As I write this, the Red Sox are playing in the American League Championship. Whether or not they make it to the World Series, you might by Brendan Smith know by the Weirs Times Editor time you read this. The Red Sox getting into and possibly winning the World Series is, to fans, not as stressful as it used to be, ever since the hated curse was lifted in 2004. Still, the fact that they are where they are, brought back memories -sweet for me, not so much for Sox fans – of the very first World Series that was played after I had officially moved to New Hampshire from New York. The year was 1986. I was, and still am, as painful as it has been lately, a New York Mets fan. When I first moved here no one was too concerned about that. After all, I hated the Yankees as much as they did. I was considered harmless. How soon that perception would change when October came around. I also realized I would be very alone when it came to cheering for my Mets. If I had still lived in New York, I would have been caught in the emotion of the whirlwind of the Mets that year. They had won more games than any Mets team before and moved into the playoffs with a powerhouse lineup. Instead, I was surrounded by Red Sox fans and discussion of “Is this the year?” and the “Curse of The Bambino.” I had no one to talk to about the Mets. No one wanted to hear anything about them. It was a lonely time watching them win the National League Championship while those around me were cheering on the Sox as they made an amazing comeback and were once again within shouting

distance of the “Impossible Dream.” Then the World Series came around and everything changed. No matter how close I had come to my new friends at work I was, for the next week and a half, the enemy. I decided that the original copy of the New York Daily News I had kept over the years since the Mets Amazin’ World Series victory in 1969 was bet kept secure at home and not brought to the office as a good luck charm. The 1986 World Series was a back and forth battle from the very beginning. The Red Sox won the first two at Shea Stadium and then the Mets took the next two at Fenway Park before the Sox won the final in Boston to send it back to New York up three games to two. It was that night, the night of the sixth game, that I watched with a roomful of Red Sox fans who I worked with. They were jubilant and I felt defeated as the Red Sox took the field in the bottom of the tenth inning, up by two runs, no one on base and the Mets down to their last strike. I sat glumly and as humbly as I could as the fanatic Red Sox fans surrounding me high-fived and whooped and roared as the Mets faced their inevitable demise. It was not a good feeling. What kind of hand had fate dealt me to find me here in New England of all places, watching my team hand to the Red Sox what they couldn’t take from others before. I sat quietly, waiting for them to remember I was in their midst. I knew I was doomed when even the scoreboard at Shea Stadium was flashing congratulations to the “World Champion Red Sox.” Then something happened. One man on base, then another. Then a run. Could it be true? The Mets had men on second and third and still one out to go.

The room had quieted. Whoops were frozen in mid-whoop. I edged up slightly in my chair, trying to stay as incognito as possible. It was not over yet. Then the bullpen doors opened and to the mound came Bob Stanley. I couldn’t help myself. I fell to the floor in front of the TV and threw my hands to the heavens. “Can you believe this?” I yelled. A bottle caps found its way to the back of my head. Then a wild pitch and the game was tied. My instincts took over. I jumped and yelled and looked for someone to high five with. There were no takers. Then it happened. A routine grounder to first and poor Bill Buckner was kept from bending over by whatever force oversaw the so-called curse. The Mets had won. I was ecstatic, beside myself (which is very hard to do), but it didn’t take me long to calm down when I realized there was no one to share my joy with. I slinked away, knowing I wasn’t wanted. When I was sure I was alone, I gave out a loud yell. That was my celebration. The next night I was working when the Mets clinched the series. I had to watch it in spurts from a nearby TV. I tried to act unaffected, keeping my emotions from the disappointed (again) Sox fans around me. But deep inside I was overjoyed. Since then, the Mets have yet to win another World Series and the Red Sox went on to win four, so I haven’t had much cause to celebrate. So let me have this memory at least. Brendan is also the author of “The Flatlander Chronicles” and “Best Of A F.O.O.L. In New Hampshire” available at BrendanTSmith.com. His new book “I Really Only Did It For The Socks - Stories & Thoughts On Aging” will be released early November.

GooTube: Dems’ Kiddie Propaganda Arm In case you hadn’t heard, Vice President Kamala Harris’ venture into government space propaganda for children was a galactic bust. The veep’s smarmy performance in a NASA agitprop video touting World Space Week was universally ridiculed and exposed this weekend after a local Monby Michelle Malkin terey, California, TV station interviewed Syndicated Columnist one of five child actors who auditioned for roles in the YouTube production. Canadabased Sinking Ship Entertainment (does it get any better than this?) cast and oversaw the scripted special for YouTube Originals, which the New York Post dubbed “bizarre.” The Sun in the U.K. called it “cringe-worthy.” It was phonybaloney on steroids (or maybe one too many mimosas, judging from Harris’ tipsy delivery). But there’s so much more to the story. What the “Get Curious With Vice President Harris” clip really shows is how deep the incestuous ties between the Biden-Harris (mis)administration and Google/YouTube run -- and why every parent should be very wary about allowing their children to be exposed to GooTube’s commie-style programming masquerading as educational entertainment. Did you know, for example, that the creative executive and producer for YouTube Originals is a veteran Obama-Biden operative, consultant on the Biden-Harris administration’s vaccine education campaign, and close former aide of Michelle Obama? YouTube Originals’ staffer Lauren Vrazilek tweeted last week that she “had a blast” making the Harris video. She tagged four top Harris staffers in her tweet: VP communications director Ashley Etienne, VP digital strategist Brenna Parker, VP director of press operations Peter Velz and VP personal aide Opal Vadhan. Velz promoted the “Get Curious” video last week, tweeting that Harris invited “five kids from around the country to her residence at the Naval Observatory to learn about space and be inquisitive.” He called it “super cute,” but failed to mention that the young performers were not just naturally “inquisitive,” but had all been auditioned beforehand to ensure they could ask Harris questions on cue. For those who are, ahem, curious, Vrazilek served as former first lady Michelle Obama’s media consultant on her “Becoming” book tour in 2018-2019. Prior to that, the YouTube Originals creative See MALKIN on 28

The Nation In The Bubble This week, the Biden administration received just the latest slap in the face from cruel reality: An economic report showing just 194,000 jobs added in the month of September, short of the 500,000 jobs foreby Ben Shapiro cast by most econoSyndicated Columnist mists. The unemployment rate dived to 4.8% from 5.2% -- not as a result of job gains, but as a result of more and more Americans dumping out of the work force. Meanwhile, inflation continued to pick up steam, with domestic labor shortages exacerbating supply-chain bottlenecks. How should we explain the bizarre spectacle of a nation that should be booming stagnating instead? For the Biden team, the answers range from the completely idiotic (lack of government stimulus, after the greatest single spending binge in world history) to the merely foolish (the delta variant, caseload from which has taken a nosedive). The actual answer, however, is simple: We have spent a year training Americans to believe that work is alternately unsafe, unavailable or unnecessary. First, we have trained vaccinated Americans to believe that they are unsafe. According to a CBS News poll in July, just 48% of those who were unvaccinated said they were worried about infection from the delta variant, compared with 72% of fully vaccinated Americans -- this despite the fact that vaccinated Americans are rarely hospitalized and nearly never die from COVID-19. Yet Biden himself continues to trot out the lie that the vaccinated are not safe from the unvaccinated: In early September, he pushed for a national workplace vaccine mandate, claiming that it was necessary in order to “protect vaccinated workers from unvaccinated co-workers.” But that’s precisely what the vaccine was for. It’s no surprise, then, that so many vaccinated people -- the first people who should be

eager to reenter workplaces -- are instead hesitant to go back to the office. Second, we have barred the unvaccinated from going back to work. Biden suggested that vaccine mandates would heighten employment by making the vaccinated feel safe. But that obviously hasn’t worked: Instead, all he’s done is take jobs from those who were always willing to go back to work. Thousands of Americans have been laid off thanks to vaccine mandates, including in crucial industries like health care and air travel. Most importantly, we have trained Americans to believe that work is unnecessary. As jobs go unfilled, a certain contingent of politicians celebrates -- they say that workers have been unchained from their jobs, and that this is a net positive. In August 2020, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., told Vice, “Only in America, when the president tweets about liberation, does he mean ‘go back to work’ ... I think a lot of people should just say no. We’re not going back to work.” Paying people to stay home, in this view, is merely incentivizing businesses to pay more for fewer hours, thus making life better for those who choose to work; for everyone else, the government dole. Now, most Americans have rejected this last lesson. Most Americans want to work; most Americans are in fact working. Hence the unpopularity of the Biden administration spending plans, which most Americans feel artificially suppress economic growth and stifle opportunity. But Biden and Democrats are counting on the longterm play: grow government, breed dependence and ultimately shift the relationship between Americans and the government. Biden promised he wouldn’t shut down the economy or the country -- he’d shut down the virus. Instead, thanks to his progressive priorities, he’s made the pandemic a problem with no logical endpoint in sight, shutting down the economy and the country in the process -- all in pursuit of his transformational vision. The current labor shortage See SHAPIRO on 28

Let Life Resume America remains bound by often extreme pandemic restrictions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends stayby John Stossel ing 6 feet away Syndicated Columnist from others. In Oregon, everyone must wear a mask outdoors. In parts of the country, 2-year-olds must wear masks. Are such rules necessary? Recently, Denmark lifted all pandemic restrictions. “Go Denmark!” cheers George

Mason University economist Don Boudreaux in my latest video. “We in the United States should do the same.” “We reduced COVID, through vaccination, to a fairly mild ailment for the vast majority of people,” says Boudreaux. “You don’t have to worry if the bartender at your favorite bar is vaccinated or not. You are protected against suffering severe consequences. Get vaccinated, and then go about your life normally!” Portugal and Sweden recently removed most restrictions, too. The United Kingdom ditched plans to require “vaccine passports.” “We don’t have to continue to

upend human life in our quest to eliminate COVID, which can’t happen anyway,” says Boudreaux. “Why not?” I ask. “We eliminated smallpox.” “Smallpox resides only in human beings,” explains Boudreaux. COVID-19 can live in animals -- bats, deer, dogs, cats. “We have never eliminated a disease that uses both humans and animals as reservoirs.” Still, China acted as if eliminating COVID-19 were possible. They’ve kept deaths much lower (if you believe their numbers) than other countries by imposing nasty repressive measures like quarantines at gunpoint and even locking

people in their homes. “It’s just awful. It’s tyrannical. It’s what you expect of a Communist tyrannical government,” says Boudreaux. Australia’s been almost that tough. They’ve also imposed curfews and arrested people for not wearing masks. In some places, police proudly announced they “smashed windows of people in cars and pull them out ... because they weren’t telling us where they were going.” Don’t worry about losing freedom, says Daniel Andrews, premier of the state of Victoria. “They’re not rules See STOSSEL on 29

U.S. Elected to UN’s Human Rights Council The United States has been elected to the UN’s Human Rights Council, the controversial Rights assembly the Biden Adminisby John J. Metzler tration rejoined Syndicated Columnist earlier in the year. In non-contested elections or should we say selections, Washington won a spot along with seventeen other states ranging from free nations including Finland and Lithuania, to failed states such as Somalia, and serial rights abusers as is Eritrea. America is back? The 193 member UN General Assembly in New York held these elections to the 47 member Human

Rights Council (HRC) which picked new members representing regional groups; Africa, Asia-Pacific, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and West European and Others. Hillel Neuer Executive Secretary of the watchdog group UN Watch tweeted, that while Elections were designed to weed out the world’s worst rights abusers, “oppressive regimes like China, Cuba, Libya, Russia and Eritrea routinely win election, and the stamp of international legitimacy.” Given the Council’s past actions, the Trump Administration pulled out of the Geneva-based body in 2018, largely over this very issue of uncompetitive elections and the HRC’s excessive criticism of Israel. Yet Washington’s “win” was a pyrrhic political victory at best; we were selected but our vote tally represented

an almost insulting innuendo from the membership. Stated another way Washington’s final vote tally lagged behind serial rights abusers such as Somalia, Cameron and the United Arab Emirates! Out of 193 members in the UN General Assembly, the USA won 168 votes. Gambia gained 186, Somalia 171 and only Eritrea garnered fewer with 144. Following the selection, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated, “The Council provides a forum where we can have open discussions about ways we and our partners can improve. At the same time, it also suffers from serious flaws, including disproportionate attention on Israel and the membership of several states with egregious human rights records.” Sadly so. Countries like the West African

state of Cameroon have a pitiful human rights record. Moreover, Freedom House, the global human rights monitor, rates both Eritrea and Somalia among the least Free countries in the world. Newly elected members set to serve three years terms include, Benin, Gambia, Cameron, Somalia, Eritrea, India, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Lithuania, Montenegro, Paraguay, Argentina, Honduras, Finland, Luxembourg and the United States. American UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield stated that by being back on the HRC, “Our initial efforts as full members in the Council will focus on what we can accomplish in situations of dire need, such as in Afghanistan, Burma, China, Ethiopia, See METZLER on 29

These days our local digital message board, a microcosm social media for town residents, is heating up. It’s no wonder. polls show Joe Biden’s approval at an all-time low. Posted on the board was a meme with a mock road-sign poking fun at Americans choosing liberty over safety, suggesting many Americans are willing to give up their rights to feel a sense of safety. How much liberty should be traded for protection? Should people be forced to choose between familial and professional relationships and their health? It appears that’s the road many corporations and institutions are going down as mandates have recently drawn a line in the public health sand, decreeing vac-

cines across the board, or else. The latest ultimatum impacts Federal employees, healthcare workers, companies with a hundred employees or more, and even those serving in the military. That’s pretty much everyone. Get a shot in the arm or pay for weekly tests if you want to keep your livelihood. This new course is a major detour from just a few weeks ago which promised not to infringe on Americans’ legal rights to get behind the wheel and make their own health decisions. My meme-loving friends and I have gone back and forth over our inalienable right to make our own health decisions. That’s what I miss about life pre-2016 when people could talk to each other over their ideological fences and still remain friends, at least, friendly. This doesn’t allow two “driv-

ers” approaching from opposite directions to pass freely and safely and still arrive at their destinations. The danger of shoving all people, without considering belief systems, into a monocultural dogmatic ideology, threatens relationships between friends and family with proverbial head-on collisions. A study by OnePoll.us (https://www.onepoll. us/vaccinated-americans-call-it-quits-withfriends-who-refuse-toget-the-covid-19-shot/) done in September with 1000 participants shows 1 in 7 Americans have “called it quits with friends who refuse to get the covid-19 shot....found 16% of respondents have axed three pals from their lives since the pandemic began in March 2020.” The recent disruptive mandates, which by the way are not laws, have set up new road-

blocks for many working people who’re being fired without compensation. This seems a narrow and a one-way street. Asking questions first before consenting to any medical drug or treatment is an act of freedom based on one’s own safety. After all, we must consider cases where the lack of transparency ultimately lead to breaking the public’s trust. Two big ones that come to mind are Tuskegee Syphilis Study and the Cutter Incident. The latter, rushed polio vaccines in the 1950’s which paralyzed and killed children. It’s no secret that Big Pharma has been sued repeatedly to the tune of billions. It’s also no secret that the drug companies have benefited making billions recently. These same companies enjoy liability protections that Americans do not. Alarmingly, exemptions for medical and religious reasons have been denied in many instances in order to reach quotas across the nation that may not be safe for everyone receiving shots. So, the meme with the yellow road sign cautioning a washedout bridge up ahead, suggesting people must choose between liberty and safety is disingenuous, but indicative of a time when American families are suddenly being told to drive on one side of the road when it comes to their See TOOMEY on 23

Letters From God This series of Letters From God is an attempt to put the thoughts of God as revealed in the Scriptures as they relate to individuals and the nation of the USA.

live without me. Your blindness is the result of the influence of the one who began the march of death, the Devil himself. You haven’t seen him even as you haven’t seen me, but he is present with you even as I am. Before I created you, I created him and the angelic beings. He and a host of other angels, like mankind, rejected me and are in active rebellion to this day. They walk among you. In fact, the Devil himself prowls the earth as a roaring lion, seeking to devour as many as he can and drag them away into death to join him in his eternal destiny (1 Peter 5:8). But because you have rejected me and my word revealed in my book, the Bible, You have unwittingly succumbed to his scheming, so that you are blind not only to me who longs to bless you but to him who longs to destroy you. I wrote of this problem in a letter that I asked the apostle Paul to write to a church in the Greek city of Corinth. Listen, read and weep at the fact that you, your country, and now much of the world is repeating the same mistake. “No eye has seen, nor ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him, but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things even the deep things of God, for who among men know the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him. In

the same way, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit expressing spiritual truths and spiritual words… The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God for they are foolishness to him. They cannot understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man makes judgments about all things but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment, for who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him, but we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Corinthians 2:9-16). “The God of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God (2 Corinthians 4: 4). Because you have rejected me and failed to receive my Son’s substitutionary death to pay for your sins, you do not have my Spirit living in you. Without him, you can’t see who I am or what I have provided for you. You are blinded by the god of this world, the Devil, and you have no ability to see your need for me or my Son, and His sacrifice for you. You only prosper now because you are enjoying the residual blessings of prosperity that are based on

Letters From God

QUESTION: Can We Prosper and Succeed Without You? No, you can’t! You are falling prey to an ancient fallacy. The fallacy is that you can know life and experience success and prosperity without God. It is amazing how consistent human nature is, that when I bless you and cause you to prosper, you become blinded to me being the source of that prosperity. You make yourself the center of the universe and crowd me and my resources for life out of the affairs of your nation, your homes, your organizations and even your churches. Do you really think that you can ignore me, the one who has brought you to life and provided everything you need for life and still expect to thrive? I realize that a contributing factor is that you cannot see me physically, but I have revealed myself in the book that I have written, the Bible, and through the events of history, particularly through my chosen people, Israel. Your blindness has another source beside your own sinful nature that causes you to take my rich blessings and attribute them to yourself, so that you reject me and seek to

my past blessings, given when your nation sought me and followed me and my will. You are also enjoying this time of my patience, in which, I am giving you time to turn around and come back to me (2 Peter 3:9). That time of patience and your prosperity will soon end, and your blindness will bring devastation (2 Peter 3:1012). If you are wise you will allow me to open your eyes. “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13) Don’t wait! I love you, God. Patience And Faith by Chris Bosak Contributing Writer

Any birdwatcher knows that patience and faith are perhaps the two most important components to a successful bird walk. I started a recent walk with high hopes, as I always do, but as the morning went on and no birds were to be found, I started to lose hope of seeing anything. To compound matters, the field at the park had recently been mowed for the first time of the year, making bird encounters even less likely. It still would have been a pleasant walk because the autumn morning chill had given way to a beautiful and warm sunny day. But with fall migration in full swing, I was disappointed in the birding results. I turned around to finish my walk and decided to go off trail a bit and check out a long shrubby row adjacent to a road on one side and the recently plowed field on the other. At first there was nothing to be seen other than the magical colors of a New England fall, which was pleasing on its own. Then I saw a few birds spring up from the field and head into the shrubby area along which I was walking. Then a few more birds popped out of the grass and went

A yellow-rumped warbler eats poison ivy berries in New England last week. into the shrubby row. Before I knew it, I was practically surrounded by yellow-rumped warblers. A few palm warblers were in the mix as well, but it was largely yellow-rumped warblers and there were dozens of them. It looked like a mix of young and old, male and female. They stuck mostly to the tops of trees at first. Then they slowly worked their way down and started gobbling up white berries from a vine that had climbed up the tree. Poison ivy is a much maligned plant and with good reason. But it does have some good qualities. Not only is the foliage a brilliant red in the fall, but it produces many white berries that a variety of birds love. I’m not saying that is enough to

keep poison ivy growing around your yard, but when you come across a patch in the woods, just know that it serves a valuable purpose for migrating birds. The recently mowed field turned out to be a boon for the birds as well. A bounty of easily accessible seeds and insects must have been created by the cutting because the warblers, along with eastern bluebirds and a variety of sparrows, went back and forth from the field to the berries in the shrubby row frequently. Talk about a balanced diet. I walked under a dead tree and three eastern bluebirds held their perches on the bare branches. They made their “turalee” sounds and kept an eye on me as I moved along. A few steps later, I focused

on an active patch of poison ivy and one of the bluebirds swooped down to join the feast with the warblers. The last bit of excitement came when I saw a red squirrel struggling to get a walnut up a tree. The walnut, still with its green husk, was a tall task for the little rodent. The squirrel eventually succeeded and it reminded me to put a few walnuts in the side pocket of my cargo shorts. I’m slowly learning the ins and outs of harvesting wild nuts in New England and I hadn’t experimented with walnuts yet. What started as a pleasant walk on a crisp fall day turned out to be an eventful experience only New England can offer. So many walks end up that way.

October is a month when many people have written off any type of fishing until things become a bit more solid, especially freshwater fishing. They hang up their rods and winterize their boats, thinking that fishing season is over because some seasons have closed. Then there are people like me who, despite all the amazing fishing opportunities spring and summer have to offer, always seem to have thoughts of fall fishing lingering somewhere in the back of our minds. In my opinion, fall offers some of the best fishing of the entire year. Warmwater species such as crappie respond predictably to falling water temperatures and fewer daylight hours by feeding aggressively. With a little ambition and a few tricks it doesn’t take long to fill a stringer. Fishing in October can be difficult some years, especially in the early mornings when crappie bite best, because it can be tough to stay warm. Early morning temperatures can sometimes approach the freezing point, making extra layers of clothing and fingerless gloves your best friend. After all, you’re trying to enjoy yourself and being cold takes the fun out of fishing for a lot of anglers. Just remember, crappie do not

Tim says there are many ponds in New Hampshire that he refers to as “sleeper Ponds” that get little to no fishing pressure, and hold big crappie. respond well to sudden changes in temperature. If the temperature drops drastically overnight it will likely affect the crappie bite and make the fishing slow. A sudden overnight drop in temperature may make sitting in a deer stand a more productive idea. What defines deep water is relative since all lakes and ponds are different. In a body of water that isn’t very deep, yet still has crappie, find the deepest part and that will be your deep basin. The ideal situation is a water body that has 30’ to 40’ distinct deep basins. On a chart the basins will look like a bowl or depression. These types of basins will hold

crappie in and keep them from straying too far, making it easier to stay on schools of fish. You will usually find fish suspended over these deep basins 12 to 20 feet down, but that may change as the water temperature drops further. If you have a Vexilar sonar flasher or other fish finder, you can use it to determine the depth of fish and the location of your lure. Because crappie usually feed from below their prey if your jig is just below a school they might miss it. Knowing their depth allows you to adjust yours and helps you pull more fish over the side of the boat, or kayak in my case One of my favorite

lures for fall crappie is a 1/8 tungsten jig head with a Bobby Garland Baby Shad Swim’R. The Baby Shad Swim’R is a soft plastic paddle tail with a whip-like tail that bounces when jigged and has an excellent swimming action if you want to cast and retrieve it. One great technique on windy days is to drift without jigging the lure. This keeps the lure at a consistent depth and gives it the appearance of a swim-bait. Remember to position your bait above the school for greater numbers of fish. Crappie are hungry in October. They know that food, light, and oxygen are going See MOORE on 23

Gruden And The Gipper by Mike Moffett Contributing Writer

So Las Vegas Raider coach John Gruden is gone. At least from the football sidelines. A victim of his own behavior, as well as a modern form of ostracism known as “callout culture.” The phenomenon, also known as “cancel culture,” involves boycotting or shunning people, especially public figures, thought to have behaved poorly. Gruden’s transgressions? Politically incorrect and tasteless emails from a decade ago when he was with the Washington (dare I say?) Redskins. I knew Gruden was in trouble when his first offensive missive was made public. It had racial overtones which is problematical for someone working in an NFL where the majority of players are African-American. Gruden no doubt thought his correspondence was private. But that obviously was not the case and it serves as a sobering reminder to all of us who use keyboards in in this information age. Not just keyboards, but cellphones. Reportedly, every cellular call is recorded somewhere, a fact I occasionally point out to folks I chat with. “You should watch what you say. Big Brother, the NSA, the

Jon Gruden visited U.S. troops in Iraq during a USO tour in July 2009, where he allowed a serviceman to wear his Super Bowl ring. Chinese and the Russians are all listening!” While said mostly in jest, there’s still truth to the above statement. L’Affaire Gruden is a sobering reminder about the need to be careful about what one writes or says, especially those of us who author columns, maintain BLOGS, blab on the phone, or do social media. I’m sure I’m not the only one who subsequently thought back to personal communications over the decades that might be “cringeworthy” if they were made public today. That’s why some of my friends avoid Facebook, as they are fear-

ful of Big Brother or whomever. I happen to love Facebook. I’m on it all the time, mostly for fun. If a photo of me with a beer in hand precludes me from being a saint, NFL coach, or President of the United States, then so be it. It’s too late to change what any of us have said or written in the past, but Gruden-Gate is a cautionary tale and a reminder that we should be smart and discrete about the words we put together in the future. Especially in an information age in a cancel culture. While not defending Gruden’s messages at all, it’s still fair to say that statements one

might get away with years ago just can’t be uttered today. I’m reminded of an ethnic joke Ronald Reagan shared here in the Granite State just before the 1980 New Hampshire Primary. Reagan got into hot water after “privately” sharing “the ethnic joke to end all ethnic jokes.” His joke? “How do you tell the Polish one at a cockfight?” “He’s the one with the duck.” “How do you tell the Italian?” “He bet on the duck.” “How do you know the Mafia is there?” “The duck wins.” Even in 1980, his humor created a firestorm, especially with Italians. Many thought he was through and called for his political head. The Gipper took responsibility but also suggested that some folks just need to “lighten up.” Reagan went on to win the N.H. Primary is an historic landslide, before winning two presidential elections via historic landslides. But I have no doubt that had he made that joke in 2020 instead of 1980 he’d have been “cancelled” and would have never become one of our greatest presidents. And the Gipper could have forgotten about an NFL job as well. Sports Quiz In his first year as Tampa Bay head coach in 2002, Jon Gruden led the Buccaneers to Super Bowl XXXVII, where they beat what See MOFFETT on 23

How To Prep Your Lawn And Garden For Autumn As autumn colors set in this season, make sure your all-important home and garden upkeep checklist is ready. Although the lawn is often overlooked during the fall, it’s actually the perfect time to make sure everything is organized before the harsher winter elements take hold. Paul James, host of HGTV’s “Gardening by the Yard,” advises homeowners to start early – approximately six weeks before the first good freeze. Here is a list of some of the tasks and items you should add to your fall checklist this year: • Maintain the

landscape. Tidy up the lawn, flowerbeds, bushes, gardens, etc. Remove unsightly foliage, dead stems, piles of leaves and other debris. Fluff your mulch with a rake so water can seep into the subsoil. • Plant fall vegetables. Cool-season vegetable gardens can flourish with the right plants – lettuce, greens, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, turnips, potatoes and loads more. Imagine all the hearty stews and delicious soups you could make from scratch. • Keep muscles relaxed, and stay hydrated. Don’t under-

estimate the fall sun. Summer may be over, but hours of gardening in the sun can still leave you exhausted, strained and parched. Remember to drink plenty of fluids, take breaks and stretch your muscles. If you suffer from backaches and muscle strains, keep some relief like Absorbine Jr. (www.absorbinejr.com) on hand. The natural menthol in Absorbine Jr. helps relieve muscle and back pain to make it a musthave for yard work. Its herbal ingredients also help provide relief from sunburn and gnat and other insect bites. • Make room for in-

door plants. Your potted or container plants won’t survive the winter outside, so it’s time to make room indoors for tropical plants, herbs and succulents. Potted perennials can be transplanted into a garden after trimming the roots and some top growth. • Clean garage, shed or outbuildings. Once you organize your storage space, you can neatly put away all of your summer tools or patio furniture. Plus, your newly emptied planters will have a home next to all the other stuff families accumulate.

Save Seeds Of Favorite Vegetable And Flower Plants by Melinda Myers Experimentation is part of the fun of gardening. Saving seeds from your favorite vegetable or flower for next year’s garden or even the next generation is something you might like to try. Keep in mind that all flowers and vegetables will not come true from seed. Hybrids and those pollinated by the wind or insects may produce offspring unlike the parent plant. The resulting surprise can add to the fun. Use heirloom or older varieties when looking for consistency. Timing is critical. When saving flower seeds wait for the seeds, not the flower, to be full size and mature. This is usually when the seedpod, capsule or seed head that houses the seeds turns brown and brittle. Collect these and separate the seeds from the surrounding structure. Spread them on newspaper to finish drying. Place the dry seeds in an envelope labeled with the plant name and date the seeds were collected. This will make spring planting much easier. Store the seeds in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Consider saving a few vegetable seeds as well. Heirloom peas and beans are openpollinated, so they form seeds that will grow into plants that are similar to the parent plant. Allow the peas and beans you plan on saving to dry

of water and let it ferment in a warm location for a week or two. Then remove and compost the rather disgusting layer of fermented tomato waste and bad seeds floating on the surface. Pour the remaining water and the good seeds sitting on the bottom of the container through a fine mesh strainer. Rinse the seeds, removing any of the gelatinous material that may remain. Spread the seeds on a piece of paper to dry. Once dry, place the seeds in an envelope labeled with the date and variety and set in a sealed jar or plastic container. Store in the refrigerator or other consistently cool location until it’s time to start them for next season. Start with these and then consider trying See MYERS on 21

Saving heirloom seeds, like this striped Roman paste tomato preserves both flavor and history. on the plant. Once the pods turn brown and the seeds rattle inside, they are ready to harvest. This is about six weeks after you harvest snap beans for eating and about four weeks after the normal picking stage for peas. Protect plants from frost or pull them out of the ground and hang them in a cool dry location, so the pods can finish drying if needed. Remove the pods

from the plants and allow them to further dry indoors for about two weeks. Remove the seeds from the dried pods, store in an airtight opaque container in a cool dark location. Label with the varietal name and date the seeds were collected. Saving seeds from tomatoes requires a bit different preparation. Scoop out the gelatinous center of a ripe tomato. (Family Features) Countless backyards are battlegrounds between die-hard homeowners and squirrels fighting over bird feed. Squirrels need not be an inevitable element of bird feeding; even though keeping squirrels out of bird feeders is an age-old problem, there are ways to thwart these thieves. One common tactic is stocking feeders with seed squirrels dislike, such as safflower, nyjer, white proso millet and seed infused with capsaicin, a compound derived from hot peppers that makes mammals’ tongues smart. An option like Cole’s Hot Meats features nutritious sunflower meats infused with fiery habanero chili peppers. They’re a no waste, no mess feed, birds enjoy but squirrels’ dislike.

Some people find squirrels adorable, fascinating to watch and have nothing against them, even allowing them to share seed with birds. The real problem begins when squirrels take their share and then some. To combat this, consider adding a baffle to your bird feeder on a pole about 5 feet high so squirrels don’t jump over it. Bird feeders on poles can be set in open spaces where there’s no trees or structures squirrels can jump from onto feeders. Try

Three Big-Impact Home Improvements For A Safe, Healthy Home (BPT) - The pandemic has brought new focus to home enhancements that not only add value, but also support wellness. Today’s homeowners are investing in thoughtful improvements that prioritize safety and well-being, helping to substantially increase the home’s health quotient. Here are three, bigimpact home improvement trends that support health and safety: 1) Upgrade Your Home’s Water From drinking and cooking to bathing and cleaning, water is in constant use in a home. Essential to life, high-quality water that helps your family live healthier is vitally important. However, many homes are plagued with poor water sources that may contain toxins or contamination. A good first step is to get your water tested - many communities and organizations offer free testing - and then determine necessary upgrades. If taste or water quality is a concern, a filtered water system can help provide safe drinking water at the tap. If you have hard water, you may want to research systems that condition the water such as a water softener. These systems remove excess minerals and produce water that helps appliances run

more efficiently and is easier on the skin and hair while bathing. Older homes may require upgraded plumbing systems to replace aging and deteriorating pipes. One solution for repiping homes is using Uponor AquaPEX, a flexible polymer piping material that resists corrosion, pitting and scale buildup. Flexible pipe like this lasts longer, bends around corners and fits into tight spaces without the need for large holes in drywall. 2) Install A Snow And Ice Melting System Much of the nation faces seasonal snow and ice, which presents many challenges for homeowners. As winter weather begins, slip

hazards increase, not to mention the risk of injury during snow removal. Hydronic radiant snow-removal and ice-melting systems are smart solutions that melt snow and ice quickly, eliminating the need to shovel and plow, as well as the use of toxic ice melt chemicals that are harmful to the environment. Installed by a professional, Uponor residential snow and ice melting systems use PEX tubing buried in concrete, asphalt or a sand bed to circulate a warm water and glycol solution that heats the surface until it is warm enough to melt snow and ice. A simple manual switch can control the system, or it can be fully automatic, sensing when melting is

needed. These systems improve the health and safety of a home by eliminating slippery ice and snow, which in turn reduces the likelihood of injuries, as well as the associated liability and lawsuits. The system adds value and helps meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations if a home is opting to follow those standards. 3) Elevate Air Quality When you heat or cool your home, conventional forced-air systems push treated air through ductwork in the walls and ceilings, which often circulates pollutants as well as dust and allergens that lower overall See SAFE on 21

Now Here’s A Tip By JoAnn Derson Syndicated Columnist

* Now’s the time to install weatherstripping or caulk for fall and winter. To find drafts, try this trick: Light a taper candle and run it very slowly along the cracks of your windows. When you see the flame flicker, that’s where you have a draft leak. * When hammering a nail, try this saveyour-finger trick: Use a clothespin to hold the nail steady, and then use your hammer to drive it in. Hammering into the wall? Push the nail through a strip of cardboard, and then hold the cardboard over the right spot. No more banged-up fingers or thumbs! * Update window treatments to compensate for dropping temperatures. Trade your sheers for sturdy, draftblocking panels. * Bringing some plants indoors? Use styrofoam

packing peanuts in the bottom of pots when planting. They aren’t as heavy as rocks, but they do just as good a job. It makes the pots easier to move around should you need to. * “Apply petroleum jelly to the panes of your windows before painting the trim. This works better than masking tape in many ways. It is easily removed, and even large paint flecks come right off.” -- P.S. in Illinois * “Have you tried this single-serving blender hack using a mason jar? Many standardsize blender blades can be screwed on to a pint Mason jar. If you’re one of the lucky ones, you can make single servings of smoothies to blend and go.” -- T.U. in South Carolina * “Hard-water stains in the toilet are no match for denture tab-

lets. Simply drop one in the toilet and let sit overnight. A quick scrub and a flush in the morning should do it.” -- P.S. in Washington * “I use double-stick tape to hang lighter items on my walls, since it does not leave a hole, and I am a renter. You also can use it to reduce noise from vibrations. For instance, I used it in my car to keep the carpet lying flat in the trunk.” -- J.T. via e-mail * A great use for those old knee-high stockings (no runs!): Stuff with a mix of crystalized kitty litter and scent-boosting beads you can find in the laundry aisle. Stuff these in stinky shoes to freshen and deodorize. The litter wicks away moisture from sweaty feet and deodorizes, and the scent boosters last for a good long while. indoor air quality. This is a concern because Americans spend approximately 90% of their time indoors, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, where the concentrations of some pollutants are two to five times higher than typical outdoor concentrations. A whole-home air filter system is worth considering for ongoing air treatment as well as other steps that reduce reliance on these systems. For example, hydronic radiant heating works by warming water at a heat source and circulating it through piping installed beneath the floor. There is no fan to circulate dust, allergens and odors, so you can breathe easier while enjoying warmth and comfort.

•Squirrels are one of the most important animals for helping spread oak trees. They store acorns in the ground but only recover about 70% of them, allowing forgotten acorns to grow into healthy trees. As for the birds: In cold weather, it’s important to provide high-quality choices that offer the most fat, nutrients

and energy. Look for black oil sunflower, which is rich in oil, attracting birds and providing energy. Birds also love suet, the solid fat rendered from beef, venison or vegetables, which provides concentrated energy, helping them make it through freezing weather. Some suet cakes are formulated to attract the largest va-

riety and number of birds as well as specific bird species. Birds are greatly attracted to the taste of hot and spicy suet cakes, and some even prefer them over non-spicy suet cakes. To attract seed-, fruitand insect-loving songbirds try Nutberry Suet, a unique mix of premium fruits, preferred nuts, nutritious suet kibbles and whole-kernel

sunflower meats. By following squirrel proofing tips and offering food birds and squirrels prefer in separate locations, you’ll see for yourself birds and squirrels can live harmoniously in your backyard while you enjoy watching both species’ entertaining antics. SADIES from 1 motive was to make life a little easier for women and children who had been victimized.” Even in death, “she wanted to remain anonymous. She honestly just didn’t want people to know the

contributions came from her,” Bianco said. Having come from a wealthy family, the donor and her sister quietly were longtime philanthropists. They organized a private foundation to fund scholarships for young students in the Lakes

Region about twenty years ago. The scholarships continue to go to area college entrants who are hoping to enter professions that the sisters felt benefited women and children – like nursing, psychology, and agriculture.

After losing her sister, her health began to fail and she knew she was soon going to die. “She said, ‘the time is getting close for me, I have something I want you to do,’” said Bianco. Then, on the night before she

died, with Bianco at her bedside, she said, “You need to make it happen. You have to create a housing shelter to help women and children ... in need of help.” In light of the need for anonymity, she had suggested that the new apartments be named after her pet, Sadie. A group of friends who were helping her make the project a reality as an advisory board agreed with her suggestion. In 2020, the board purchased the former office and apartment building at 15 Northview Drive, and had decided on a project that fit with her wishes and that area doctors say was, and is, badly needed. In fact, Sadie’s Place is the first such project in Belknap County and one of a relatively few transitional homes for victims in New Hampshire, mental health professionals said. “There’s absolutely a need in the area for affordable housing in this region, but that’s particularly true for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their families,” said Shauna Fos-

ter of New Beginnings - Without Violence and Abuse, the Laconia crisis center that was hired to run Sadie’s Place. “These women and their families often don’t have access to financial resources or good jobs.” While New Beginnings has a local shelter for victims from the area, it’s a temporary place to live, not a solution to their problems. Now, with Sadie’s Place, there are five fully furnished apartment units in the building, along with a sixth apartment used by a caretaker and counseling assistant from New Beginnings. The advocates at New Beginnings come up with a plan for tenants and their families, who will stay up to two years there. During that time they will be aided with counseling aimed at their personal situations, and New Beginnings staff will help residents find jobs and receive health care and child care, as well as help them with access to local schools. New Beginnings advocates will help plan the victim’s future. The idea is that when See SADIES on 25

— THE WEIRS TIMES, Thursday, October 21, 2021 — SMITH from 3 an in Warner, who, at a distance of two or three miles, observed its progress, compared it’s appearance to a tin trumpet, the small end downward, also a great elephant’s trunk let down out of heaven, and moving majestically along.” The tornado appeared first in the Grantham mountains The only buildings destroyed in Croydon were said to be the house and barn of Deacon Cooper, the house being torn to pieces and the barn blown away. The damage done near Lake Sunapee was more extensive both to property and to people. The whirlwind was estimated to be half a mile in width with unknown velocity, but the eight people at a farm owned by John Harvey Huntoon of Wendell, which is now Sunapee, saw the “frightful appearance of the cloud,” which was the tornado approaching with the air filled with branches of trees and other items. They did not have time to find a safe place and the house and two barns were destroyed and an eleven month old child which was sleeping on a bed was carried by the wind into Lake Sunapee where it became the tornados first fatality. The other seven people in the house were injured, but survived. All of the trees in a forty acre woodlot were leveled and a bureau was blown across the lake. Though accompanied with numerous bolts of lightning and loud claps of thunder, the water that was dropped as the tornado made its way along land was thought to have been siphoned up as it passed over large bodies of water, including Lake Sunapee. One small pond was three feet lower in

Main Street, Warner, NH. which saw the most extensive damage to life and property in the tornado of 1821. depth after the storm passed over it. No lives were lost when the destructive winds passed through New London and Sutton, but considerable damage was done in these towns. The exact number of buildings destroyed in New London seems to be unknown, though one source indicates that around half a dozen houses and eight or ten barns suffered damage, some of them being destroyed. The cost of the damage in New London was stated to be $9,000. The damage in the northern part of the town of Sutton was apparently limited to a swath of destruction through the forest. The most extensive damage to life and property seems to have been in the town of Warner. The tornado passed over the southwest section of Kearsarge Mountain and into a portion of land called the Kearsarge Gore in the town of Warner. In the gore or valley there were seven houses. The first building to be engulfed by the fierce tornado was the barn of William Harwood which was destroyed. Three houses were next to feel

the strength of the outer fringe of the tornado and suffer damage. These belonged to M.F. Goodwin, James Ferrin, and Abner Watkins. The Ferrin barn was also hit and destroyed. Next in the path of the tornado were houses owned by two brothers, Robert and Daniel Savory in which were a total of 14 persons, including the brothers’ parents who were in Daniel’s house. When their father, an elderly man, saw the funnel cloud approaching he went to an open window with the intention of closing it. When the tornado struck the house he was carried by the wind for four or five rods, his head hit a rock, and he was killed instantly. Daniel Savory’s wife was wounded and one of their children was killed. Many of those who were in the brother Robert’s house were severely wounded, but none of them lost their lives. Both houses of the Savorys’ and their barns and other buildings were leveled. Contents of the buildings were scattered over a wide area. Passing over another part of Mount

Kearsarge the tornado reportedly fell with great violence on property owned by Peter Flanders and Joseph True. Their houses were just a few rods apart, but in different towns, one being in Warner and

the other in Salisbury. There were nine people in the Flanders house, two of these were killed instantly when the tornado hit, and Mr. and Mrs. Flanders were badly wounded, but survived. Seven people were in Mr. True’s house and, two children were severely burned by hot bricks because an oven that had been lit to bake bread, and the chimney fell on them. One of them died several weeks later. A young girl, Phebe, who was sleeping at one of these houses when the whirlwind hit was carried on a mattress several rods away from the house and survived. Those who witnessed the 1821 tornado saw all sorts of things lifted off the ground and flying in the air, including limbs of trees, farm implements and animals, and the contents of homes and barns.

There is no question that the tornado was a mighty whirlwind that was so strong that not only buildings and their contents were flying high, but, beneath them, trees, fences, and stone walls were leveled. At least six people were killed and many others injured. The severe weather of 1821 included the Norfolk/ Long Island hurricane less than a week earlier that went up the east coast from North Carolina and into New Hampshire. As for the tornado, it was reported that after reaching the town line separating Warner and Boscawen, “it lifted itself into the heavens and vanished.” Some spruce floor boards, however, that had been in New London, were deposited at the Shaker village in Canterbury, about thirty miles away.

MALKIN from 6 director and producer worked for the Obama White House for nearly six years as an intern, director of correspondence, associate director of digital engagement, and deputy press secretary to Mrs. Obama. When BidenHarris took office in January, Vrazilek exulted on Twitter: “Apparently when you don’t work in DC people expect you to work on Inauguration Day? I had a bowl of ice cream and a cry before 8am -- the chances of me doing anything but gushing over President Biden and Madam Vice President Harris are slim to none.” “Slim to none” are

also the odds that parents can rely on YouTube to provide anything other than slanted brainwashing to their kids. Google/ YouTube’s parent company, Alphabet, forked over $21 million to Democrats in 2020. The revolving door between Google and White House Democrats is notorious. In April 2016, the Campaign for Accountability tracked 61 Google or Google-tied employees leaving the tech conglomerate to take federal government jobs and 171 Obama-Biden staffers jumping ship to work for Google. Even more insidiously, you must remember that GooTube has re-

peatedly violated children’s privacy: -- Google/YouTube admitted to data mining children’s emails without consent and in violation of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. -- In 2019, the Federal Trade Commission levied a $170 million fine against Google/YouTube over its violation of the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act. -- Last September, Google/YouTube was slapped with a massive class-action lawsuit in the U.K. accusing “the platform of routinely breaking U.K. and European data protection laws

by unlawfully targeting up to five million under-13-year-olds with addictive programming and harvesting their data for advertisers.” Lawyers for families lambasted the Silicon Valley giant in their announcement, claiming execs and employees “know full well that millions of children watch YouTube. They’re making money from unlawfully harvesting data about these young children as they watch YouTube videos -- and then running highly targeted adverts, designed to influence vulnerable young minds.” Truly curious journalists in the Beltway might want to know

more about how many more Lauren Vrazileks are planted at Google/ YouTube and working intimately with Biden/ Harris to pump out political programming for young online addicts whose data is being mined, monetized and weaponized by the manufactured-reality managers of Big Tech. SHAPIRO from 6 is a feature of the plan, not a bug. But Biden didn’t promise transformation in the 2020 race -- he promised a return to normalcy. And so, his approval ratings are cratering. Syria, and Yemen.” She added, “Finally, we will press against the election of countries with egregious human rights records.” When the new members take their seats in January, just under a third of the entire HRC membership will represent democratic states. Members like Cuba, China, Russia and Pakistan already sit in judgement on the Council. Facing this grim political calculus, how can Western democratic states hope to tip the Council’s balance away from the entrenched authoritarian states? Having covered past HRC proceedings in Geneva and viewing the bubble under which the Council operates, it’s almost taken for granted that members operate in an largely unchallenged cloud cuckoo land. I recall communist China putting on lavish exhibits which verge on political pornography where the persecuted Muslim Uighurs of Xinjiang province are presented as happy and dancing peasants all under Beijing’s red banner. Serious discussions are sidetracked, stifled or shut down. Thus is Washington’s political pushback effort even worth it? So with a disappointing and almost insulting 168 votes, should we proclaim America is Back? Sort of.

that are against you. They are rules for you.” “So say all dictators and tyrants,” retorts Boudreaux. These countries can’t lock down forever. When the lockdowns stop, COVID-19 will return. That’s why Denmark ended COVID-19 restrictions. “It’s not admitting defeat; it’s admitting reality,” says Boudreaux. “We learn to live with COVID in the same way that we learn to live with many other pathogens. ... The bacteria that caused the Black Death is still circulating in the human population. A handful of people every year still die of it.” In the Wall Street Journal, he wrote, “Eradication of Covid is a dangerous and expensive fantasy.” “We live with countless hazards, each of which we could but sensibly choose not to eradicate. ing motor vehicles. Drowning could be eradicated by outlawing swimming and bathing. Electrocution could be eradicated by outlawing electricity. We live with these risks not because we’re indifferent to suffering but because we understand that the costs of zero-drowning or zeroelectrocution would be far too great. The same is true of zero-Covid.” That’s why, now that we have largely effective vaccines, he says it’s time to end pointless lockdowns and do what Denmark is

doing: “Live life normally again! Travel, go to parties, weddings, sporting events. Live life and be joyous! Hopefully, humanity will come to its senses soon.” I hope he’s right.
