A HOTEL FOR THE OLD
Interinship in The ADA Company Major Architect: Yago My work: master plan & analysis diagram Year 4: Summer 2014
Elegant Hotel, a health-keeping hotel providing services for elderly, lies in Xihu District, Hangzhou. Inspired by the traditional Chinese architecture, the design of this project adopts a layout of courtyard, which can strengthen the spatial organization and enhance the communications among customers. Within the hotel, it makes great use of the space into three key parts, the main plaza, the entrance hall and the detached house. Meanwhile, a patio is also added into the design to achieve a decorative effect and to integrate the interior and exterior building into a whole. Veranda, as the walking system with a roof, can be seen everywhere in the hotel, which can avoid the negative influence of the road slippery on rainy and snowy days. A plenty of wellness facilities such as the swimming pool, the garden and the court, are provided for people to keep fit.

THE CONCEPT The design concept comes from the traditional Chinese landscape design, adopting a basic layout of courtyard and also emphasizing on the space interspersed. Meanwhile, the building corresponds with the nature. It retains the original lakes and ancient trees and adds the yards and viewing platform systems. 03
Roof Corridor In order to have a better combination of the lake and hotel, we create a long corridor with roof around the lake. So the old could enjoy a safe and pleasure time near the nature.

HONEYCOMB UNIT
A VEGETABLE MARKET IN THE CENTRAL CITY Critic: Li Lin Year 4 : Winter 2013 Tian Zuo Competition
This project is about the Luo Jiazhuang vegetable market, lying in Xihu District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang. The modification work of the market aims to improve its use efficiency. There are three shining points in this design. The first one is that it takes the shape of honeycomb as its prototype, to change the original one to one business mode into one to many relationships. That is to say, a seller can simultaneously provide his service to numerous customers. The second feature is that it absorbs the roadside barbecue and other retailing booths into the market, to extend its business hours till midnight. The last one is that a series of public spaces are set in every floor for shopkeepers and customers to have a rest or carry out activities.

Structure
In the original rectangle counter, the sellers and buyers are in a one to one relationship that the sale is in a low efficiency. However, in the hexagon counter, the sellers and buyers are in a one- to- many relationships to improve its efficient.
In the Morning, sellers put out the board with vegetables for customers to choose; at noon, sellers set up the board to create a break space; at night, the counter can provide adjustable seats.
The counter can be flat pushed and pulled up and down to satisfy different usage in different periods of time.
07
GARBAGE DISPOSAL According to the traditional garbage disposal way that cleaners recycles the garbage from counter to counter through the handcart, which wastes time and energy. However, the new center pillar is designed to be the hollow garbage hurled pipes that all the garbage can be discharged into the same place for cleaners to centralized processing it. What’s more, the recyclables and unrecyclable wastes are discharged through different exits to recycle the available resources.

ORGANIC HOTEL THE ENERGY SAVING PROJECT Critic: Ruifeng Zheng Cooperator: Yijun Lin My Work: create the building model& add energy-saving strageties Year 5: Summer 2015 This project aims to improve the passive energy saving for the No.177 dwelling house in Chenjia village, Baimahu, Hangzhou. The propriety wants to transform the existing residential building into private hostels, both for tourists and themselves. Some of the excellent traditional architectural elements used in Jiangsu and Zhejiang area, will be presented in the design, especially in construction and ornament. The roof solar energy technology, heat storage materials, covered container with biotechnology, and flat roof rainwater drainage system, are all adopted in this project, to reduce energy consumption and to achieve the effect of energy saving and sustainable development. 10
The location
TYPICAL ELEMENTS Under the influence of the culture background, it blends the traditional architectural elements into design, like the processing mode of Shiku Gate (a typical architectural element in Hangzhou), penthouse windows, the straight roof, big patio, white wall and blue black tiles, and the purlin parts on the roof.
The formation of the whole roof in different levels could be used to be a shelter for sunlight and rain.
THE ORIGINAL BUILDING A building without any energy-saving methods The original building was built by farmer themselves with good neighboring environment, open vision, and high greening rate. The southern park also provides an abundant resource of landscape. The building is 14 meters high (The standard height of a floor is 3.3 meters while some of
the floor is 4 layers.) and covers 424.8 square meters. However, the building lacks diversity in construction and functional space. It retains the traditional wooden roof but the whole architectural image is in western style, which can`t give people a clear impression of architectural style. The
window-wall ratio far exceeds the standard requirement of regional energy saving in hot summer and cold winter, which makes the thermal environment uncomfortable for people in summer and winter and consumes too much energy.

ENERGY-SAVING METHODS 12
ENERGY SAVING STRAGETY We blanket outer surface of the building with green plants which can not only serve the function of heat insulation and preservation but also beautify the environment. The culture specialty is revealed by the combination of the new technology of solar energy with the rooftop tiles.

GREEN NEIGHBORHOOD DISTRICT DESIGN Curriculum Design Critic: Mingshu Liu Year 4: 2014 September This project lies in Xihu District, Hangzhou, with a cover of 133100 square meters and about 2000 households. It plans to build multilayer and high-rise economic quarters, accompanied by service facilities, such as shopping malls, clubs, kindergartens and community center. The whole community is extended along the main street and the inner roads are in ring type. In the community, there are three spatial levels, several buildings making up a cluster, several clusters forming a courtyard, and the whole community, giving people a feeling of spatial rhythm. Every cluster of buildings has its own green land for elderly and children to have fun.

THE BANIAN KIOSK OPEN GLASS PAVILION Yong Bird Plan Competition Critic: Li Lin Year 3: Summer 2013 This project lies on the public green space in Taiziwan Area, Shekou, Shenzhen. The design concept is inspired by the local plant, banyan tree, taking the shape of the banyan tree to design the shape and the structure of the pavilion. The pavilion is supported by light steel truss, and the vertical load is undertaken by the center pillar and uneven distribution of cables, so the primary and secondary beam suffers a pulling force rather than the downward force. What’s more, it makes full use of the served space (about 0.9 meters) to equip electrical appliances and lighting lines, which can adjust the indoor micro-climate. Random distribution of cables and the transparent glass roof blurs the boundary of the pavilion to make visitors unconsciously move into the center of the pavilion, like entering into the banyan tree to take a shelter of the wind and rain or to hold a party.

THE CONCEPT The banyan tree, a specific tree for Southern area, has four constituent parts, tree truck, tree-crown, the root and the aerial root. Different from the other common trees, it has the aerial root, so a banyan tree may have dozens of independent root system and have a bigger tree crown.
EQUIPMENT TIER
The main construction materials of the pavilion are steel truss, inhaul cable and glass roof. Moreover, it was equipped with illumination pipeline and ventilation installation on the trusswork layer, to create an atmosphere of comfort and humanness.
