Glossary: Foundation: is the lowest division of a buildingits substructure-constructed partly or wholly below the sureface of the ground. (Ching,2008, p. 3.02). Masonry: refers to buildings with units of various nature or manufactured products. Usually with the use of mortar as a bounding agent. (Ching, 2008, p. 2.06). Settlement: the gradual subsiding of a structure as the soil beneath its foundation consolidates under loadings. (Ching,2008, p. 3.02). Structural elements: the design of a structural element is based on the loads to be carried, the material used and the form and shape chosen for the elements. The elements or building terms, specific names which are used for convenience. (Envs, 2014).
