Vintage San Francisco presents a unique historical portrait in black-and-white of America’s favorite city, which is visited annually by more than fourteen million people. From the devastating Great Quake of 1906 to the spanning of the Golden Gate, the history of the City by the Bay comes to life in more than one hundred classic images taken by three generations of gifted San Francisco photographers. Accompanying the visuals are selected excerpts from the many writers who found inspiration in the cool, grey city of love, including Jack London, Frank Norris, Mark Twain, William Saroyan, Rudyard Kipling, and Dashiell Hammett.
