There’s nothing that sums up a trip to the seaside more than the tang of vinegar on warm, salty chips, and at Quayside Fish and Chip Takeaway and Restaurant, pride, passion and ‘proper’ fish and chips has proved to be a winning recipe. Our 50-yearold family-run business was crowned Britain’s best in the National Fish and Chip Awards 2014, organised by Seafish. Three generations of our ‘Fish and Chip Family’ have served Whitby with our own specialrecipe crispy, golden batter and local potatoes fried the traditional way in beef dripping, for decades. chips deserve a place on the gourmet map of Britain, and we have gone ‘back to the boats’ to ensure that all our haddock, cod and plaice is sustainable. Our multi-award winning fish and chip shop and restaurant was the first in Yorkshire to scoop the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification in 2012, and when it comes to potatoes, we even know which field our Maris Piper potatoes come from. We are the only fish and chip shop in Whitby to offer customers a completely gluten-free experience, with ‘free-from’ batter, bread and even beer.

Lanterna Restuarant 33 Queen Street, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, YO11 1HQ Tel: 01723 363616 Email: info@lanterna-ristorante.co.uk Web: www.lanterna-ristorante.co.uk
A Yorkshire Institution, La Lanterna Ristorante has stood on the same site in Queen Street for 40 years now. Chef-Patron Giorgio Alessio bought it in 1997, and has worked tirelessly ever since to live up to the accolade given it by the influential Italian daily newspaper la Stampa- ‘ the English temple of Italian cuisine’. This is not a restaurant to visit if you’re after pizza.
Giorgio mouth-wateringly blends the deep, warm flavours of his youth with the freshness of the local produce that surrounds him in his adopted town most notably, the fish.
This is an altogether more refined form of Italian cucina, hailing from Giorgio’s native Piedmont in northern Italy, where the cooler climate and misty autumns call for comfort food of the highest order - game, risotto, pasta, hazelnuts, chocolate - and of course, the Lanterna’s speciality, truffles.
Each evening the Lanterna menu has a mind-boggling specials list of fish dishes - and every last piece guaranteed to be so fresh, you can still smell the sea.
