TORCHLIGHT PROCESSION AND CAROL SERVICE Haworth, 10th December Head to Haworth for the annual Torchlight Procession and Carol Service. Starting at the bottom of the Main Street by the beautiful Christmas tree, the procession winds its way up the cobbled street to Haworth Parish Church, carrying the candlelit torches and singing carols as they go.

LAMPLIGHTER FESTIVAL Todmorden, 25th November Handmade Parade returns to the streets to light up the town with the mythical ‘Lamplighter’ puppet lantern.

CHRISTMAS AT THE PIECE HALL Halifax, 25th November 31st December As well as a 30ft Christmas tree in the courtyard, a well-travelled Spiegeltent will take centre stage this festive season, providing a very special venue for an eclectic showcase of storytelling, family shows, live music, stand-up comedy and late-night cabaret.

Wrap up warm and explore the grounds of Brodsworth Hall after dark as they open up a winter fairy-tale of light, colour and sound.

Take a festive stroll through Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden. See the trees twinkling with light and the abbey all aglow and stop by the cellarium to catch some live festive music.

You don’t have to go all the way to the North Pole to find Polar Bears. Head to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster and say hello to Pixel, Victor, Nissan and Nobby at Project Polar, one of the largest polar bear reserves in the world.

STUNNING LOCATION Head to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park near Wakefield on 9th December for an atmospheric ‘Twilight Heritage Walk’ and explore this stunning location with a member of the Park’s knowledgeable Heritage Team. You don’t need to go all the way to Lapland to get a taste of the North Pole. At Pesky Husky in Scarborough you can try your hand at ‘mushing’ on purpose-built scooters or simply hike on foot through the North York Moors National Park with their sled dogs.

Pantomime season is as synonymous with Christmas in the county as dreaming of snow on the big day. What do you mean ‘oh no it isn’t?’ We’ve created a handy list that will prove to you that ‘oh yes it is.’

City Varieties, Leeds will also take you to a whole new world with their performance of Aladdin – The Rock ‘N’ Roll Panto. With promises of laughter and dancing in the aisles, there is also the added bonus of seeing the legendary ‘boulder’ fight which is sure to make your night rock even more.

The oldest theatre in the UK, The Georgian Theatre Royal in Richmond is also getting involved with pantomime season.

There may be ‘no place like home’ but travel to the wonderful world of Oz this Christmas for an unforgettable time that promises star-quality performances, catchy songs and oodles of hilarious fun.

Sheffield’s biggest pantomime of 2017 is brought to you by Sheffield Theatres and tells the tale of Mother Goose. This egg-cellent pantomime stars Jake Canuso of Benidorm fame, Andy Day from CBeebies’ Andy’s Dinosaur Adventures and Sheffield legend, Damian Williams who will be celebrating his 10th hilarious year at the Lyceum.

When did you last let your heart decide? This Christmas, listen to it and let it take you on a wondrous journey filled with genies, magic lamps, wishes and feisty princesses with Aladdin at The Theatre Royal, Wakefield.

The GIANT tale of Jack and the Beanstalk will be retold by both York Theatre Royal and Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield this Christmas; and both productions will take you high above the clouds on Jack’s journey.

If tales of Princesses is what you’re after then the county has you covered. Cast, Doncaster tells a tale as old as time as Beauty and the Beast comes to South Yorkshire. With stunning sets and magnificent costumes, these festive treats are sure to make your spirits soar.

Scarborough based entertainment company Qdos Entertainment is set to start the biggest ever pantomime season in its 35-year history this Christmas. The Alhambra Theatre, Bradford will tell the story of Cinderella with a cast of famous faces, while Hull New Theatre will present the swashbuckling adventure of Peter Pan with celebrity guests Darren Day and Brendan Sheerin.

DIVERSE York’s National Centre for Early Music has a rich and diverse calendar of events all-year-round, but no more so than at Christmas. Based in an 11th century medieval church steeped in history, there are few places more appropriate for a Yuletide concert. Don’t miss the ‘Yorkshire Bach Choir at Christmas’ on 9th December. This colourful programme features some of the 18th century’s most popular and invigorating music for chorus and instruments.

Taking place on the 14th and 15th December, York Minster’s Christmas Carol Concert is an annual spectacle not to be missed. Performed in the famous Nave, a wondrous mixture of classic and contemporary carols will be accompanied by seasonal readings from special celebrity guests.
