CALENDAR OF EVENTS FARMERS’ MARKETS Farmers’ markets are increasingly popular as a means of buying locally produced food. There is a real buzz around the quality of award winning local food on offer.

CASTLEGATE TABERNA Castlegate Taberna 1 Castlegate, Pickering, North Yorkshire YO18 7AX The Castlegate Taberna in Pickering, Ryedale, is a real hidden gem. It is a cosy Spanish restaurant (not far from the castle), the first in Ryedale ever to serve Tapas, which is a relaxed way to enjoy traditional and flavoursome regional Spanish dishes. Amparo and Ian take pride in sourcing the Spanish wines, beers and liquors,

from the ordinary to the un-ordinary that are available at the Taberna. If you haven’t experienced yet, this healthy and sociable way of eating, you really must try it, but please book before you go as it is small but full of charm and character.

Its heather clad moorland, lush green dales and stunning coastline provide the ingredients for some mouthwatering food and drink available from farm gates, delicatessens and a wealth of homely pubs and cafes. WHITBY & DISTRICT LIONS BEER FESTIVAL July The festival will have over 30 specially selected unique high quality beers and ciders which have been brewed either locally or regionally. EGTON BRIDGE GOOSEBERRY SHOW August Egton Bridge, eight miles from Whitby in the North York Moors National Park, is the setting for the oldest surviving gooseberry show in the country, established in 1800. The show is held on the first Tuesday in August, annually by the Egton Bridge Old Gooseberry Society.
