Nourish, Protect & Moisturise Weleda Body Oils & Lotions treat the body and stimulate the mind. Using our expertise in natural caring and essential oils, these products have been developed to help maintain or regain the skins natural balance. They replace essential oils naturally lost daily through the skin and provide an intensive nourishing treatment, leaving your skin feeling soft and replenished. They can be used separately or together for a more intensive body care treatment.

Tip To intensively moisturise the skin – apply a lotion first then top this up with an oil to seal in the lotion and protect moisture loss ensuring fuller absorption. To soften the skin – apply the oil first as this will nourish, then top with a lotion to protect the oil whilst it is being fully absorbed.

Making a difference behind the scenes From the wild into the field Sea buckthorn is a wild plant that originates from central Asia. Over millennia it has spread across to the Alps in central Europe to the coasts of the North and Baltic Seas. At the biodynamically-managed San Mario farm in Tuscany, the family business Künzi & Röthlisberger has succeeded in cultivating this rare wild plant in a sustainable way. They have worked in partnership with Weleda for over ten years. Selecting and breeding the most suitable varieties of this extraordinary plant demands time, patience and sensitivity: The Breeder Kurt Künzi uses “cuttings”, small branches of selected parent plants, which are grown in a special soil-compost mixture to see whether the berries’ juice delivers the expected composition and quality, which can only be seen after three to four years.

Biodynamically grown for almost 40 years

Biodynamic and sustainable Calendula cultivation since 1924

Weleda’s Sicilian fair trading partners, Francesco and Concetta Salamita manage a cooperative, which includes about 100 farms which cultivate a total acreage of around 2,000 hectares throughout the island. The Salamita Cooperative can look back on nearly 40 years of experience, having held the Demeter certificate for biodynamic cultivation since 1976. After harvesting, the lemons are washed, sorted, brushed and loaded onto conveyor belts for further processing. Only perfect fruits are used for the high-quality products that must measure up to strict organic certification. To obtain the precious essential oil from Salamita’s organic lemons, pressure is applied to the fruit from above, suction is applied from below and incisions are made on the outside using fine blades. This allows the essential oil to run out of the lemons along with the juice that is later used in Weleda elixirs, toiletries and pharmaceuticals.

Weleda grows the golden Calendula flowers organically using Demetercertified biodynamic methods. For the most part, cultivation takes place in the largest biodynamic medicinal plant garden in Europe at Schwäbisch Gmünd in Southern Germany. Weleda has always taken great care over the sustainable and biodynamic cultivation of Calendula. Much of this work is carried out by hand, beginning with the collecting of organic seeds: the strongest and fullest flower heads are selected to ensure that only the plants that meet the requirements of pharmaceutical standards and active ingredients are harvested. The harvested Calendula plants go into the production process without long transportation journeys – a further guarantee of the highest quality. Here in the UK our harvest is used for Weleda medicines.
